I know im a little early with a discussion of the battery life.
But im looking at switching over from an EVO 4g, which has pretty terrible battery life.
I was just curious hows the battery life?

its awesome. I charged up yesterday and played with it off charger and when i woke up to take the screenies it was at 81% i think
It's better than the EVO but it's still a super thin Android device with a huge screen. It's not going to get you through 3 days without charging.
True but you might be able to beat the crap out of it all day then charge at night

Picked it up at 10am at store with 50% or so battery life banged on it hard for 5 hours 5% left.
I'm thinking I can get a good full day + of heavy use before charge is needed.
When root becomes reality custom rom will make it even better.
Bottom line,
Amazing battery life you wont be disappointed.

Yeah, I am fully modded out on my Evo, but I have that beautiful 2 year upgrade. Should I get this or wait until the iPhone 5 comes out?
Do you guys keep data on for notifications? Do you use a task killer? Do live wallpapers work buttery smooth and not slow down the OS? These are HUGE factors for me that I don't want to deal with on my next device.
Please give an honest opinion.
Oh, and is there an "unknown sources" button to install apps from the SD card?

See, I really don't like the whole money hungry apple. If people are getting good battery life, and an overall good experience, then I want this phone. I have a screen that is messed up, and I love the Galaxy line.
Why would anyone go back to using an iphone with those small ass screens after using the Epic touch, plus all the customization of the android os. Apple makes good products but the iphone screen is too small and not being able to customize the phone is a big turn off

Bro, lets start the threads off right and not have an Android vs iOS debate. I'm just curious. I am most likely getting this monster tomorrow, but I want to make sure that it is the right choice for me.
Please answer if you got the Epic Touch.
Battery Life
I bought mine at 10:30am (even made an appointment and reserved the phone) from Sprint upgrading from the Epic 4g - Walked out of the store at about ~40%. Took it home and put it on the charger until about 11:45 when I had to leave for work. While at home I connected it to my Wifi - began downloading all my apps connected to Spotify to sync just under 2,000 songs then went to work with about ~50% battery. Unfortunately where I work is an old hospital so my phone is roaming practically the minute I walk in the door. Needless to say normally if I forget to put Spotify in offline mode my Epic 4g my phone is dead in 20 minutes and the phone is basically a PDA as I get 0 signal. Basically I forgot to turn off spotify - I was AMAZINGLY impressed as #1 It continued to roam and sync. Very slowly I might add but it still continued to sync meaning I HAD SIGNAL! #2 I realized this about 6 hours later and it still had 22% battery life! I don't know about others but coming from the Epic 4g to the Epic 4g Touch the battery life is PHENOMENAL!

5 hours off a full charge. Screen has been off maybe 30 minutes. Played about an hour of games, been on xda for a good hour, downloaded a ton of apps, 2 phone calls totalling 30 minutes, tons of text, facebook a good half hour, and alot of data heavy stuff. Down to 69%. So basically extremelly heavy use could net me 15 hours. My evo woulda been dead by now on my 1800 battery. This is just nuts. Ive never seen a smartphone run like this. I woulda been happy at 8 hours with this usage.
Best comparison i have is on my evo one hour of drag racing premium would destroy a full charge. I just played about 40 minutes and lost 10%.

I got it with about 60% battery (at 11am when I left Best Buy), used it all day texting/short calls/downloading apps and it got me home at 6pm with battery left.

your screen isnt on that much, but i do see a lot of awake time, so the day is impressive. but i have to assume your brightness level was at like 5% or something? and seems like an 8hour period where you had no wifi or radio no?
Screen is on auto Wi-Fi was off while at work and while sleeping everything else was just texting and brief calls and some status updates via twitter Facebook and G+

You need to show on screen time. That is the most important part of how well battery is......If you do not turn your phone on, who cares if it lasts all day.
I am not rooted and have gotten 4 hours of on screen time being unplugged for 15.5 hours and plugging in at 5% battery left.
Those are the numbers that interest me and I don't think you can get much better then that even after rooting but I would love to see some stats to prove me wrong.

For me this is pretty Impressive, I'm coming from the samsung vibrant and I'm used to getting 9 hours tops with out doing anything on the phone so me getting a full 24 hours out of it doing things that I like to do for me is a big deal. if it doesn't impress you sorry but I'm pretty darn excited about getting this kind of life out my phone for my day to day use!

Yeah bro you need to click on display and snapshot that. The most I got out of it was 5.5 hours of on screen time. Which is pretty good. There are other phones, (gay iPhone), that can get like 8hours of display time until dead. That would be amazing for Android. I give it another 1-2 years and we will have Androids that embarass iPhone. This phone definitely kicked up the performance and added a bigger battery, so it will get easier as we go along.

Leave ICS and get back on GB.
Ive had this phone since the day it came out. Switched to ICS once the developers started dropping ICS leaks, etc.
For the past 2 weeks for some reason, Ive had nothing but HORRIBLE and i mean HORRIBLE battery life. Phone would not last me more than 4-5 hours of heavy use. I'd have to carry around my portable battery pack to charge the phone on the go. I did everything to my knowledge to try and conserve battery life. CPU tweaks, battery monitoring, tried different ROMs, Kernels, Modems, etc, etc. Nothing would significantly improve battery life. I even went ahead and ordered a new battery last week to remedy this problem (which has not yet been delivered/used)
2 Days ago I flashed back to Blazer 4.0 ROM (GB).
I unplugged my phone yesterday morning at exactly 7:30am. Did not step back into my house until 530 which at that point I was at 35% and had been using my phone all day as I normally would. Web browsing, tons of texts, Used Navigation for about 2 hours, etc. I did not plug my phone to the charger until 10pm. Phone was on 19% then. Mind you, this is on the first day of the Phone being on a new ROM/GB so the battery has not yet settled/calibrated as Its only been charged Once since flashing over.
I refuse to switch back to ICS for the sole reason that battery levels have obviously improved with something as simple as switching back to GB.
Just a heads up for anyone with ICS on their E4GT having issues with battery life.
If only I got a dollar for all the times a thread like this is made.. I'd be rich. Blah blah ICS sucks yes we know... So far my phone must be a super phone because it's handling ICS well.

I agree with you, Ray. I'd also be rich for every time I've read of E4GT owners who's phones are running ICS with no problems. But then theres the bunch who also complain that they have problems. I never stated ICS sucks. At this point these phones are old by today's standards. Be glad you're one of the ones who's running ICS with no issues. I for one will stay on GB until I switch to a new carrier/new hardware sometime soon.
Just thought I'd give some feedback of my experience with battery issues on ICS in comparison to then switching back to GB.
I don't know if you've tried Blazers ICS ROM, but that thing has some AMAZING battery life. I've been running it for a few weeks now, everyday I get at least 12 hours of moderate to heavy use, without my own tweaks, and by the time I connect to charger I'm at 35%
Arguments apart
i have a few friends all on this or that ICS and none of them is happy with the backup
whatever its a fact ICS goodness never really reached E4GT, lets hope FI03 onwards some sense prevails at those losers at sammy and they push something which we can smile about.
FYI i am also on ICS Rom , still in testing phase after getting my new white beast 10 days back , already tried like 3 , each for three days
running galaxy 1.8 since yday and hoping it shapes well otherwise i ll also move back to GB
I've tried multiple ICS rooms and I've always gotten great battery life (14+ hours with 3+ hours screen on time).
The only times I've ever had battery life issues were when a certain app was the culprit and was keeping my phone from deep sleep or causing frequent wakes, which is almost always the case with poor battery life issues.
Check out an app called GSAM Battery.. it will tell you what is using up your battery in easy to read graphs and percentages. Also, check out CPU Spy to see if your phone is actually going to deep sleep mode when you turn your screen off--again, it shows you in an easy to read chart with times in each state.

I got over 30 hours last weekend with light use, but the next day, my battery would drain 5 to 10 percent per hour with no use. I have all the utilities to track what's happening, but cannot find a definitive cause. Poor reception seems to be a factor, but not the whole story.
EDIT: I just installed GSam. Thanks for the tip!

Maybe you should've posted this after receiving and using your new battery. My phone had horrible battery life after a while on ICS but it turned out that it was in fact the battery and not ICS. Got a new battery and it is back to 18 hours a day (on ICS)

Only the stock ICS rom is garbage with poor battery life and stupid stuff like grey text on black back ground. I have ran several custom ROMs and they all provided better battery life. As I have said before, I got 99 problems but battery life ain't one of them. You must be doing it wrong.

Still waiting for the new battery to arrive. I would love to try it but I'm in the midst of a heavy usage of Verizon PRL on my phone. Sprint doesn't like heavy roaming users from what I've been reading. Sprint 3G in my neighborhood here in NYC sucks Donkey nuts. I can cross the street and get 3 bars more than I have sitting on my front porch. But thats a whole other topic of discussion.
Im not sure why my phone couldnt play well with ICS but it really was horrible. I consider myself a heavy user and ICS couldnt keep up with battery demands. I tried undervolting, etc. Oh well. Been eyeing the SGS3 or the upcoming SGNote 2. Time will tell.
So far 3 days on Blazer 4.0. All my apps are restored via TB and no issues with battery like I had on ICS. Don't really know what else to say. :good:

I'm getting 24+ hours on standby time. I have gotten about 18 hours with about 3 hours of screen time. Facebook and GBA emus. I wasn't able to do this since GB. I have done this by doing one simple thing. Turning off data. I kid you not. Utilize that data toggle. I know at first you're thinking no I need data. But you don't. Unless you're some business person, then this excludes you. Wanna check Facebook?
Also, wii benefit from something else. 4G WiMax. You can turn that on even though your data is off. You still get decent battery life since 4GWiMx knows how to sleep. Also, if you're driving around, it'll pick up 4G eventually (unless you don't have it) and it'll download what it needs to download. So by time it turns loses signal, you'll have your emails. I tried this and I still got good battery life.
Using Battery Monitor Widget, I was able to see that my phone wasn't "sleeping". That's what the main problem was. That's why I wasn't able to find any rogue apps using Better Battery Stats. But I did see my phone stayed awake. Like once my phone died in 5 hours. 10 minutes screen time. 6 minutes of deep sleep. Really? That means my phone was awake for over 4 hours!? Doing what!? No app was at fault.
Extra stuff. No need to read if you felt you read enough
An app you all should check out...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...av_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDMsImNjYzcxLmJtdyJd
Battery Monitor Widget (It's not just a widget. LoL!!)
It tells you how many #mA your phone is using. So if it shows 500mA. That means your phone is using 500mA per hour. Your phone has an 1800mA battery. So that means if your phone used a constant 500mA, it would die in 3.5 hours. This is a good way to see just how much power your apps are using, or if after 10 minutes your phone is actually sleeping. My phone actually started using 2mA. I haven't seen that since GB. I thought my phone would never sleep like that again. I cried.
P.S. If you get the app, in settings -> Calibration, change the battery amount from 1500mA to 1800mA. Apparently the app thinks our battery is 1500mA. Or maybe my battery REALLY IS 1500mA. I mean, it got my Nexus 7 battery correct. I didn't have to change it. I've always wondered why BMW said I had a 1500mA battery instead of 1800mA. I may have to look into. Wii all should probably look into that.
Also, those on Blazer ICS ROM. Using BMW, I was able to see something quite interesting. My phone would use a lot of energy. Like 1000mA just to send some text messages, or scroll through my app drawer. BUT, after I stopped using my phone for about 10 minutes, I'd turn it back on and BMW would show my phone gaining #mA, or charging. This means something is causing the phone to "drain", or show drainage, when there really isn't. The fact that the phone charges back means it never really used that much energy in the 1st place. But that only happens on this ROM. Since I figured out the data thing, I'm going to try CM9 again.
I put around 6-7 hours of screen time yesterday and still had battery left. Also it looks like the radios they are using are very efficient with very little battery drain.
Nothing scientific to report, but this morning I've used 3 hours of screen time and still have 66% battery left.
Love it!
I am happy to report similar findings. 4 hours screen time and im at 30% battery with 20 hours without a charge.
I don't know why but the radio's are definitely doing better than my S3. I'm picking up Lte more often and its not jumping back and fourth either. So far showing the same as far as battery, maybe even better.

So far 2:40 hr screen on and still have 58% left. Total time is at a lil over 7. Betterbatterystats say 6% per hour.

So far I'm at 1 day 6 hours, (2 hours screen on) and I'm down to 56%. I'm really impressed, and this offsets the sourness I feel with the crippled SIM/wireless charging. Heck, who needs to even charge this thing with battery life like that!?
What really impresses me is the fact that I've been out several times today - yet the battery graph is perfectly steady. Whereas every other phone I've had immediately starts plummeting when I'm on the go and it has to switch towers, etc. I can always take one look at a graph or SystemPanel and know exactly when I was out, but not with this phone. :good:
Samsung really must have done something good with the radio in this thing.

On wifi quite a bit of the time, but still very happy with the battery. Includes gmail email sync, default mail client syncing an imap account every 15 minutes, about 2 hours of podcasts and music, 20 minutes of voice calls, and other misc stuff. No video.
I picked up my Note 2 on Friday, and charged it that night. Saturday morning at 10:00am I disconnected it. I have turned off wifi and SCO so it was running on 3g all day, I decided to not charge it Saturday night to test the battery to see how long I could go without charging. I went a full 48 hours on one charge and still had 11% at 10:00am on Monday. I didn't have heavy use on it, but spent a couple hours browsing the internet and Facebook, as well as 2 hours of Draw Something off an on. Very impressed. I didn't think to take any screenshots, sorry.
I just wanted to post this. I seen a reply yesterday that changing roms too much messes up your battery syncing. So I tried myself. Yesterday after 4 hours I was down to 50 percent with my phone under clocked. As you can see, today was far different.
The fix I read was to remove your battery for 5 minutes after you flash a rom. I also did a complete recharge and then played games till 1 percent b4 recharge.
Hope this helps somebody out there, I was sick of my battery life. I am sure others may be as well.

Mine is horrible now on pacman. I think my battery may be swollen but I'm not sure. But try depleting battery to shut off. Then keep phone off and charge to full, then unplug and deplete and repeat once more. I'm going to try it, I know it worked on older smart phones.

Yeah it does a little that's why I brought it up. I go to the military in 2 weeks. But I might just buy a 4200M battery for the hell of it.

Well here is another shot. Yea I agree...trying to re sync the battery brain sounds good and I will try it as well. I will say, this is already a ton better. And it is my first real charge cycle. Tomorrow may be a touch better.

This is mine running the 4.2.1 alpha 2 with an extended battery. My old battery killed itself, would last 6-8 hours with 20 min screen on time. This ROM is a lot better with my extended battery than cm10 ever was

That battery life is horrible...there's something wrong with the phone
Signing out of Facebook and Google talk have increased my battery life by 4 hours. I get about 18 hours with mild use on 4.2 Alpha 2 with Exit_Only's tweaks.

It is way Better than the 6 to 8 hours we were getting. Yea, it is not the greatest, but at least it gets us through a day away from a charger.

If I don't stop by a Sprint store today I'll upload mine. It's horrible. I charge about 2 times a day. But I'm on vacation.

Mine doesn't spin that bad. But you exaggerated a little, you didn't even really spin the red one.

I'm neither the first guy or last guy to say this, but, if you're not getting decent battery life ...... try a new battery.
I stubbornly believed that my batteries were in great shape until I broke down and dropped $18 on an Amazon vendor for a pair of Anker 1800mah batteries and a wall charger. The next day my battery life went from 6 hours to 16+ hours.
Believe it or not I can go up to 7 hours before hitting 75%. But, data is off most of the time while I work and I would consider my phone usage to be between moderate and light.

I did the same thing to the red one as the silver one. The Oem battery spun because it's bulging. My bulging battery still lasts pretty long though. The emphasis was to show people how it looks because I keep seeing them ask how much a bulging one spins.

I was having probs with my batt life only getting about 8 to 9 hours with only 45 min screen on time. My phone would literally shut off on the ride home from work. I stopped by sprint repair to get a new one and they told me no. So then i went to a store down the street and they told me that all batts have a year warranty even replacements and that the repair center is wrong. SO i had to call sprint, got a new one in the mail 2 days later. Now im getting about 16hrs with 3 screen on and its a refurb. So if u r under the year mark u r entitled to a new battery.
I went to the Sprint store today. I gave them my phone because they needed it to see why my phone was dying so much (my phone was on PACMan, so I was sort of worried). But I went next door too subway and came back in 10 minutes later and he was still working on it Ann's I needed to go so I asked for it back. He asked for my password because I have the 6x6 screen lock. He knows I was rooted, if not he's an idiot. But anyways, he says he sees the bulge but the battery tested fine and he needs me to give him my password and leave my phone in there for 4 hours. Sorry, not happening.

Yea. As long as it can get u thru the day before you need a charge than NO, I would not leave my phone as well.
