Leave ICS and get back on GB.
Ive had this phone since the day it came out. Switched to ICS once the developers started dropping ICS leaks, etc.
For the past 2 weeks for some reason, Ive had nothing but HORRIBLE and i mean HORRIBLE battery life. Phone would not last me more than 4-5 hours of heavy use. I'd have to carry around my portable battery pack to charge the phone on the go. I did everything to my knowledge to try and conserve battery life. CPU tweaks, battery monitoring, tried different ROMs, Kernels, Modems, etc, etc. Nothing would significantly improve battery life. I even went ahead and ordered a new battery last week to remedy this problem (which has not yet been delivered/used)
2 Days ago I flashed back to Blazer 4.0 ROM (GB).
I unplugged my phone yesterday morning at exactly 7:30am. Did not step back into my house until 530 which at that point I was at 35% and had been using my phone all day as I normally would. Web browsing, tons of texts, Used Navigation for about 2 hours, etc. I did not plug my phone to the charger until 10pm. Phone was on 19% then. Mind you, this is on the first day of the Phone being on a new ROM/GB so the battery has not yet settled/calibrated as Its only been charged Once since flashing over.
I refuse to switch back to ICS for the sole reason that battery levels have obviously improved with something as simple as switching back to GB.
Just a heads up for anyone with ICS on their E4GT having issues with battery life.
If only I got a dollar for all the times a thread like this is made.. I'd be rich. Blah blah ICS sucks yes we know... So far my phone must be a super phone because it's handling ICS well.

I agree with you, Ray. I'd also be rich for every time I've read of E4GT owners who's phones are running ICS with no problems. But then theres the bunch who also complain that they have problems. I never stated ICS sucks. At this point these phones are old by today's standards. Be glad you're one of the ones who's running ICS with no issues. I for one will stay on GB until I switch to a new carrier/new hardware sometime soon.
Just thought I'd give some feedback of my experience with battery issues on ICS in comparison to then switching back to GB.
I don't know if you've tried Blazers ICS ROM, but that thing has some AMAZING battery life. I've been running it for a few weeks now, everyday I get at least 12 hours of moderate to heavy use, without my own tweaks, and by the time I connect to charger I'm at 35%
Arguments apart
i have a few friends all on this or that ICS and none of them is happy with the backup
whatever its a fact ICS goodness never really reached E4GT, lets hope FI03 onwards some sense prevails at those losers at sammy and they push something which we can smile about.
FYI i am also on ICS Rom , still in testing phase after getting my new white beast 10 days back , already tried like 3 , each for three days
running galaxy 1.8 since yday and hoping it shapes well otherwise i ll also move back to GB
I've tried multiple ICS rooms and I've always gotten great battery life (14+ hours with 3+ hours screen on time).
The only times I've ever had battery life issues were when a certain app was the culprit and was keeping my phone from deep sleep or causing frequent wakes, which is almost always the case with poor battery life issues.
Check out an app called GSAM Battery.. it will tell you what is using up your battery in easy to read graphs and percentages. Also, check out CPU Spy to see if your phone is actually going to deep sleep mode when you turn your screen off--again, it shows you in an easy to read chart with times in each state.

I got over 30 hours last weekend with light use, but the next day, my battery would drain 5 to 10 percent per hour with no use. I have all the utilities to track what's happening, but cannot find a definitive cause. Poor reception seems to be a factor, but not the whole story.
EDIT: I just installed GSam. Thanks for the tip!
Try the Re-Calked FI03 and tell me ICS sucks....this things is as good if not better than Calkulins v3 GB rom....the ONLY other rom i have ever liked.... :good:

Maybe you should've posted this after receiving and using your new battery. My phone had horrible battery life after a while on ICS but it turned out that it was in fact the battery and not ICS. Got a new battery and it is back to 18 hours a day (on ICS)

Only the stock ICS rom is garbage with poor battery life and stupid stuff like grey text on black back ground. I have ran several custom ROMs and they all provided better battery life. As I have said before, I got 99 problems but battery life ain't one of them. You must be doing it wrong.

Still waiting for the new battery to arrive. I would love to try it but I'm in the midst of a heavy usage of Verizon PRL on my phone. Sprint doesn't like heavy roaming users from what I've been reading. Sprint 3G in my neighborhood here in NYC sucks Donkey nuts. I can cross the street and get 3 bars more than I have sitting on my front porch. But thats a whole other topic of discussion.
Im not sure why my phone couldnt play well with ICS but it really was horrible. I consider myself a heavy user and ICS couldnt keep up with battery demands. I tried undervolting, etc. Oh well. Been eyeing the SGS3 or the upcoming SGNote 2. Time will tell.
So far 3 days on Blazer 4.0. All my apps are restored via TB and no issues with battery like I had on ICS. Don't really know what else to say. :good:

I'm getting 24+ hours on standby time. I have gotten about 18 hours with about 3 hours of screen time. Facebook and GBA emus. I wasn't able to do this since GB. I have done this by doing one simple thing. Turning off data. I kid you not. Utilize that data toggle. I know at first you're thinking no I need data. But you don't. Unless you're some business person, then this excludes you. Wanna check Facebook?
Also, wii benefit from something else. 4G WiMax. You can turn that on even though your data is off. You still get decent battery life since 4GWiMx knows how to sleep. Also, if you're driving around, it'll pick up 4G eventually (unless you don't have it) and it'll download what it needs to download. So by time it turns loses signal, you'll have your emails. I tried this and I still got good battery life.
Using Battery Monitor Widget, I was able to see that my phone wasn't "sleeping". That's what the main problem was. That's why I wasn't able to find any rogue apps using Better Battery Stats. But I did see my phone stayed awake. Like once my phone died in 5 hours. 10 minutes screen time. 6 minutes of deep sleep. Really? That means my phone was awake for over 4 hours!? Doing what!? No app was at fault.
Extra stuff. No need to read if you felt you read enough
An app you all should check out...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...av_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDMsImNjYzcxLmJtdyJd
Battery Monitor Widget (It's not just a widget. LoL!!)
It tells you how many #mA your phone is using. So if it shows 500mA. That means your phone is using 500mA per hour. Your phone has an 1800mA battery. So that means if your phone used a constant 500mA, it would die in 3.5 hours. This is a good way to see just how much power your apps are using, or if after 10 minutes your phone is actually sleeping. My phone actually started using 2mA. I haven't seen that since GB. I thought my phone would never sleep like that again. I cried.
P.S. If you get the app, in settings -> Calibration, change the battery amount from 1500mA to 1800mA. Apparently the app thinks our battery is 1500mA. Or maybe my battery REALLY IS 1500mA. I mean, it got my Nexus 7 battery correct. I didn't have to change it. I've always wondered why BMW said I had a 1500mA battery instead of 1800mA. I may have to look into. Wii all should probably look into that.
Also, those on Blazer ICS ROM. Using BMW, I was able to see something quite interesting. My phone would use a lot of energy. Like 1000mA just to send some text messages, or scroll through my app drawer. BUT, after I stopped using my phone for about 10 minutes, I'd turn it back on and BMW would show my phone gaining #mA, or charging. This means something is causing the phone to "drain", or show drainage, when there really isn't. The fact that the phone charges back means it never really used that much energy in the 1st place. But that only happens on this ROM. Since I figured out the data thing, I'm going to try CM9 again.

My Evo has been Pissing me off. It dies in less then 4 hours of use and if I don't use it and leave it on standby it dies in 6 hours.
I just got it six days now and I wish I had my hero back again. This phoenix is really ridiculous and since I got the 2.2 update I can't do nothing to try and kill start up programs and nothing.
I'm thinking about ending my contract with Sprint and get something like the Droid x cause I'm not into the epic 4g at all. I know the hardware is better but I check the roms over that side and I'm sorry. There garbage.
How are you stock 2.2 guys doing with battery life and what do you recommend me do to get batter battery life. I already turned off everything as in gps, Bluetooth.4g. Everything except data. I use ny data. But I don't think j could take this any linger.

Dang... I normally get around 10-12 hours of normal use. The only time I get 6 is if I'm streaming Pandora over 4G all day. Have you gone to the Sprint store and complained? That sounds like a bad battery.
Sounds like you didn't charge it correctly the first time. I get over 24 hours of standby and occasional calls or about 8-10 if im listening to music all day and browsing the web and I'm on stock froyo.
I got it two days used cause there's none in ct. And they won't have any more Evo for 2 more weeks. And no one has a battery. I told them that the hero used the same batter and nothing from no one.
I called them last night and they said to bring it on a Sprint store to get it checked on. I told them to send me another battery. And they refuse they rather replace the phone with a refruished phone. Even though the phone is 6 days old.

Have you Rooted yet???
I am running Freak E Froyo version 1 from Yay 4 Juggs and have had 2 days of extremely long battery life. right now sitting at 19.5 hours Up time with 36% left and 2:10 hours awake time. Yesterdays was well over a full day of my average use.
I would post yesterdays picture of the status but the pic is still on the phone and I am waiting to plug it in after work today (9 more hours).
I do believe it has to do with the Kernel you have and how use set it up in SetCpu.
I was in the same boat you are in, I know how you feel. I have read about a few other ways to charge the phone and letting it fully discharge too that might help.
Just don't expect Best Buy to get you a new battery, I've read that they are sending out knock-offs that are lower quality and Mah (something).
Do you have low signal levels? The evo eats up the battery looking for a signal.
Sent from Evo 4g
I can't root cause i have the Froyo ota on my phone. I got it pour that so I can't root but I really want to.
What do you mean lower quality battery. Can I prove thus somehow.
Also I do have poor signals sometimes so I turn off 3g and trust it doesn't help at all. I'm not at 49 percent. My phone has been in my pocket since my last post

Im going on a guess here but he said he had his EVO for the past 6 days . Im also gonna guess his phone came with 2.2 Froyo on it . There might be a possibility it has the messed up Facebook app on it that is causing the drain if he used that . I would take your EVO and do a hard factory reset . Just back up your contacts to gmail before doing the factory reset . I would also pick up a battery from sprint so you are setting everything back to the beginning . Fully charge the new battery and give it a week . I noticed with my stock battery that after a week life seemed to improve . If at the end of the week you havent seen any improvement then I would say bring it back terminate your contract or get a new phone . Your choice and good luck .
I'm going to take your advice. But they fixed he Facebook issue I believe. I can reset everything and see what's up though.

Even with out root you can still do a few things to tweak the battery. Just search the board

JuiceDefender works well for me by intelligently scheduling when data is connected, but if you have low cell signal (like one bar all the time), your phone will crank up the voltage to your antenna to keep a connection open. There's not much you can do about that kind of battery drain.
They fixed the issue but did you download the updated Facebook app ? Thats the only thing im concerned about . I noticed after getting my Froyo update my battery life dropped off as well . I performed a factory reset ,Settings> SD & Phone Storage >Factory Data Reset . Reloaded everything put the phone on the charger and charged the battery to 100% and went from there . On average with my phone use I can get anywhere from 24 - 32 hrs sometimes upwards of 48 . Mind you I dont use 4G since I dont have it in my area. I live 3G on and check my weather and email randomly through out the day as well as use my EVO as an mp3 player at the gym . It seems the phrase "Your Mileage may vary" applies very well to this phone LOL
I am in a similar situation. I can get at least a day out of my phone using it however I please aside from gaming all the time. Coming from a Palm Pre, that kind of life is awesome.
I also have setCPU set pretty aggressively. When the screen is off it sits at 200mhz. When on, it's overclocked as far as it will go.
When I don't call much or use it for the net, I can get home after work (4am to 3pm) and still have about 70 percent battery.
I thought I would check and see how much battery is used overnight on my Nexus. What I found was that the Android OS kept the device awake over half the time. Also, for some reason the phone used battery as well.
I'm running stock 4.0.2, rooted and unlocked... is this typical?

Hey Guys -
I shut off location services and my battery drained only 9% in 8 hours of non use last night... It used to be around 25%. I'm thinking that Android keeps waking to check where you are... Just shutting off GPS is not enough as it will wake to find your location via wifi or cell towers.
Just my 2 cents. Give this a try to see if that helps you guys out. Google still needs to fix this but it might be a good temporary workaround.

I typically see around 8-10% battery drain overnight off the charger. And I thought I had problems. If you are losing 25% over night that seems unacceptable.

Roman has fixed it or at least it appears he has. I loaded his CDMA rom "[ROM] [AOSP] Android Open Kang Project - toro build 9 [Dec 21]" over at rootz and it is putting the phone to sleep when the screen is off. My phone had be staying awake 30 - 50% of the time prior to this. I've only had the rom loaded a short time, but in the last 40 minutes of non-use my Staying Awake time has been about 2 minutes. YMMV
Good luck.

Thanks for the reply... that's encouraging to hear. I'd like to stay stock for a while so hopefully 4.0.3 drops soon!
I know many people recommend rooting and using a custom rom, but I've had a poor experience with that. Having said that, I've been working on battery issues and this is a picture of my battery drain overnight. It basically took a nosedive.
What I don't understand is some people are getting great battery life from this phone. I've turned off all my widgets and followed many recommendations - but frankly I shouldn't have to do any of that and even so my battery life is abysmal.
Is there any answer to this problem short of rooting? Do I have any reason to believe that google will acknowledge and correct this issue?
By the way I had a Droid Razr for a month prior to the Nexus, and it would lose no more than 10% of it's battery overnight.
I do everything "wrong" (syncing, gps - wifi - data on) I have 5 widgets on my home screens and I loose less than a % per hour over night if not on the charger.
When I am using my phone I keep the screen on full brightness. This will get me about 12 hours of use with 4 hours screen on time.
I have no idea why some people get great battery life and others don't. There must be bugs floating around. Lets see what 4.0.3 brings. I'm unlocked and rooted but still stock.

That's the frustrating thing - it's working great for some people.
I have to return mine because the headphone jack doesn't do stereo, maybe I'll get lucky and the new one won't have signal and battery issues.
The Razr never dropped voice or data - the Nexus drops both multiple times during the day.

I would try a different radio. I wasn't exactly thrilled with reception at first. A North American radio changed that. But i would still give moto a step up on reception.
I think more people should also consider congestion in their city to how well battery life does. Can Make a big difference. Otoh though, that doesn't account for standby at night when you're asleep. It would seem to me no matter how your phone is setup 1% an hour should be the norm, unless your phone downloads a lot of data.

Ya, try swapping it, IDK... I have yet to drop a single call on my Nexus. One thing i can say is Samsung needs to look at their quality control. I definitely got a good one. I don't see the REAL problems others are having. The fact that most phones are fine, and some are duds is the one thing i will hold against Samsung. Gives a really good phone a bad name when so many have issues.
I can say its not all of them.

I just tried a new ROM last night and had an improvement with my phone sleeping more of the time the screen was off yet the battery drain doubled to 3%/hour. Can someone explain how that makes sense? My phone slept 10 of 11 hours during this time. And the CPU was scaled down at 350 mhz by the kernel the entire time while the screen was off. So confused...

i have the same setup and loose less than 1% an hour, when the phone is idle
Thanks to the kind folks who have replied with questions, comments, or just sympathy
There are of course a lot of threads in this forum related to the Nexus battery life and I've been trying to do my own due diligence. I have removed every widget from the phone - even those which are just 'switches' and should not make any data requests. It was still draining.
Then I removed the fancy Light Flow lite app that gave me pretty notification lights - still drained.
Finally, I removed Battery Monitor Widget - the very app I was using to try to find the cause of my drain.
Took the phone off the charger at about 10:30 this morning. Used it for navigation for 20 minutes, ran the bluetooth for a bit and that took quite a bit off the battery. However, when I got home I forgot to turn the wifi on and set the phone down. Sitting there doing nothing connected to 4g the battery dropped less than 10% over three hours. I didn't look closely enough to see the exact numbers but overall I'm at 60% now after 6 hours of what I would call moderate use.
Most importantly, the phone seems to actually sleep now when not in use. I don't mind if the battery drops a bit faster during use - it has a great screen and wicked fast 4g. I just don't want it to tank when it's not doing anything.
For right now, it's acting exactly how I would expect and I'm very pleased. Will probably give it another day and then try to add back my beautiful widgets time/weather/calendar widget on the home screen and see what kind of damage that does. Maybe try a different battery widget as I like the percent left in the notification bar.
Good thing is, now I have a baseline that I'm happy with to measure my performance from.
Thanks again for those who've posted in this thread. Hope anyone else having similar issues might benefit from my experience.
And I'm right back where I started. Phone had insomnia last night. I took it off the charger at 100% last night at midnight and it died within five hours sitting on my night stand.

You do relize that you have Steam, A virus protector, and all those other Apps installed that eat away at your battery. Also have you taken into effect that coverage signal can affect your battery life to.
el29 has significantly increased battery life for me....
Your Android OS is exactly where is should be based on your display percent. If you actually turn your phone on in that time Android OS will start to drop and the display percent will start to move up...

It may be that your phone is not sleeping with the display off in some circumstances.
Probably all those background apps waking it up to check internet for updates.

My battery life has suddenly dropped too since EL29. I updated and everything was great for a few days. One day I woke up and my battery was draining at about 10% an hour with no use. I've tried rebooting and it seemed to help a little but I'm still dropping at about 6% an hour where before update it was 3% an hour. No idea what's causing it and it was really odd how it came out of nowhere.
I asked somewhere in another thread for someone who had the skills to see if there was any major differences between EL26 and EL29 because I actually prefer EL26 but I figure they made 29 official for a reason

Stop using a nonsense app that does no good to your phone. Who in the world need anti-virus app for android. An't no hacker would spend time to come up with a virus that will steal your info. Some apps claim to do this and that but is just all BS. All you need is an app killer and that's it. If you have an app that is continue running ( other than the one require ) than of course is gonna drain the hell out of your battery and it will get hot.
I have a Seidio 3200 battery which was giving me almost 2 days of moderate use . Immediately, and I mean immediately, after the OTA my battery drain almost doubled according to my stats... I read XDA on the subject, and did a HARD factory reset witth DATA wipe.....no help. Thought maybe the battery was failing..so I ordered a 3800 Trexcell from EBAY. Then read the problem might be from a looping background app or a stuck radio....pulled the battery...waited 5 minutes...put te battery back and now I'm back to normal (if not better) battery drain....It might be that some of us who had OTA got a screwed-up install which affected background apps or radios, while some of us had a normal install...in either case... I'm happy to get my battery use back !

My Android OS usage is through the roof now, aka Android OS bug. I installed watchdog and it's the "suspend" and "events/0" processes running at 65-85% when the phone is supposed to be sleeping.
I have had this phone for 5 months without the Android OS bug. I installed EL29 on Feb 2nd. Everything was fantastic until Feb 5th then I suddenly noticed my battery draining faster than normal.
After spending about 3 hours reading up on the Android OS bug this morning I've come to the conclusion there is no remedy for this bug. Sadly Samsung has not fixed it and it's even happening to people with the Galaxy Nexus running ICS.

Same here. I am getting up to 24 hours with stock battery (syncing exchange as push, facebook and gmail), on strongsteve odexed blue rom.
It seemed like battery got better since the updates began (EK02, EL13) and then the battery drain got worse than ever with EL29. For comparison's sake I live in Chicago and work downtown during the day in a not so good cellphone environment for most of the day.
I reverted back to EL13 radio and Rogue's EL13 Repack Kernel, topped off with Calkulin's 2.8.1 ROM. Battery life seems to have returned back to normal, but Calk's ROM makes it that much better.
I plan on giving the battery removal trick a shot too tonight. Someone else on Rogue's or Calk's thread said that removing the battery after a full charge for 5 mins, then recharging again, made his battery back to normal if not better.
Here we go!!! My phone is almost complete!!!
It's not a bug...

Currently using latest calk rom I get about 2 hours using my phone for browsing thr internet at home. When 3g is turned on it drains even faster.
It has always been like this. If the phone is set on idle without 3g and wifi it lasts about 10 hours.
also it takes about 3 to 4 hours to fully charge, i feel this is too long.
so any rom that might help me? is the battery faulty?

Blazer ROM
why are you using your phone to browse all day long ? use a pc or a tablet. its a phone not a desktop pc. plus put it into airplane mode and then turn wifi on, it disables the cel/data radios hence the battery last longer. If your phone takes 3-4 hours to charge from 0-100 something is wrong with it. turn if off and charge it, cuts down charging time A LOT !
That is ridiculous. But I've been using Blazer Rom for about 2 weeks now and I always get 30 hours+ battery life. I just got 3.8 and I hit over 40 hours just this weekend.
well, um, wow, those are some ... great suggestions...
you might have a bad batt, sure.
i would think it is likely something else though.
a few things off the top of my head.
is this on a "clean install"?
is there some app you have loaded that might be pinging/updating constantly? (I'm on the exact same rom, getting all day at least)
what modem are you on?
did you flash a custom kernel?
do you know how to take a screenshot of battery usage? show us what processes are eating it?

Nice miracle rom, bet I could kill your phone in 6 hours using it . I get 20-30 hours on my days off. But no rom will make up for the amount of use one can put into their phone.

Ya sounds to me like theres a problem with your install or something i was on calkulins and my battery life was great. Lasted like the other guy said at least a day under pretty heavy use.

I get great battery life with Blazer 3.8.
Idk about 40 hours (WOW!) but I do get around 3-4%/hour battery drain so it's not bad at all.
Try re flashing the ROM. That sounds abnormally for ANY rom.

It could be a bad ROM (bad install, not the ROM itself), but don't presume that's the case.
Measuring whether the phone is draining appropriately is difficult to do when it's in active use (e.g., 2 hours of browsing) ; thus most people measure effective drain by measuring the drain rate when the phone is 'sleeping' -- though in some cases a bad app or bad install will prevent the phone from sleeping.
I would recommend charging the phone to full, leave all default radios on (GPS/Wifi/3g), and let it sit for an hour or two. If you're losing more than ~3-5%/hour, then you have a problem.
Tools you can use:
- CPU Spy - Will show you whether your phone is entering Sleep state or not
- Battery Monitor Widget Pro - will measure your mA drain rate; during sleep, you'd want it to be at least below 20mA, ideally below 10mA (note, this app requires a couple of charge/discharge cycles before its measurements are reliable).
- Better Battery Stats -- If you find your device is NOT sleeping, this will help you figure out what applications (including the kernel) may be preventing the device from sleeping.

Your point? I could kill my phone in 6 hours too, but why would I want to do that? I play games all the time when I'm out at work or just out in general and I still get over 24 hours of battery. I never use my phone when I'm at home, that's what I have my tv and computer for.
how long has it been since you flashed? Maybe it needs a few cycles to settle. Do you have any wake lock issues? get betterbatterystats app, free for xda members, to check for kernel or partial wake locks.
I'm on BlazerROM 3.7 and getting about 1% every 2 hours on idle. It took me a week to see the battery life i'm getting now. My wife is on calks 2.8.1, I don't know what shes getting but when she gets home from work, she's still around 50%. On stock, she was typically around 30% already.
how do you get betterbatterystats for free as an xda member?
I'm on blazers and i'm at 79% battery at the 7hr mark on battery.

I have seen this "mystery battery drain" problem in other threads. There is usually an app responsible. Try Watchdog, its not bad.
I also have heard that SD card or file errors can be responsible for the drain. Formatting the memory takes care of the problem. If it were me, I would format the memory, then run chkdsk (Windoze, or the equivalent in another OS) to mark bad sectors. In the case of internal memory, you will have to do that through the USB cable. Do so at your own risk, of course

The point is you walk into someones situation and act as if their usage of the device on whatever rom your on is going to produce a parallel experience. One of the biggest factors no matter the rom is screen brightness. If you spend most of your time out doors the experience is completely different even with the same usage patterns otherwise. I love screen brightness personally, haptic feedback is nice too who cares about the battery when the experience is better?
I have games on the phone, GTA III, MC2/3, Dead Space, etc. I don't actually play them. I remote into my PC, browser the web. I have a TON of apps that use the phone idle/background. I keep steam and im+ pro going. I let TEP ping GPS data every 10 minutes. Weather widget, google voice, etc. I even have Samsung Apps installed with its oh so horrible push service that apparently rapes peoples batteries... cant say it hurts at all.
Today was a day for me where my boss was around so I couldn't use the device much and when i did it meant leaving things like a remote client on because I couldn't touch it to turn it off. 52% battery was left after 12 hours so it obviously was going to survive the 16 hours I am awake, going to sleep now so it would easily last 24 hours. But the battery being Li-Ion and me actually caring about it, its going on the charger. Tomorrow could be 30 and the next day will probably be 8 hours.
As far as the topic is progressing. Check your apps and your settings. Ive had battery life so bad the phone died on the charger. Same rom, same apps slightly different setup later and I am getting good to acceptable and that constant wake this guy is probably getting is gone.
If your using a lot of push apps, you're battery becomes nothing more than a decoration, lol. Apps like aim, kik, basically all the chat ones. Games like words with friends. The more apps you have checking for updates on top of heavy usage with kill your battery fairly efficiently

Which personally was part of the issue before on my setup. I still have them going again and battery life is decent. I mean Id want 16 hours out of a phone surely whatever my day is Ill have it on a charger by bed time.
I personally usually get 12 hours or more on days Im not using it constantly, 6 to 8 if I am using it every waking second. 24+ on days off. Haven't tried blazer in particular myself yet but Calks seems manageable even for demanding use.
I hear it all the time... Does this rom provide good battery life? How's the battery life? Why is my battery life suck? So; it may have been done already somewhere; but I figured after watching and logging my own battery life, I could really help some others. I'll section this out; no specific order at all.
ROM: No matter how many times I look at a ROMs thread, I get to see a multitude of "How is the battery life" posts. You know it, I know it, and we all know it. Truth is; after using plenty of ICS roms out there; most of them have similar battery life. Currently I'm running the Blu Kuban rom, and I get just as good battery life as I do with most other touchwiz based roms. To each rom their own. Read up on the rom itself before you go blaming the rom for battery life. I've noticed the JB builds aren't the best with the battery, but we must remember those are usually noted for having bad battery life. Either way, most of the ROMs I've used personally perform rather similar in actual battery life.
Kernel/Governor tweaks: I can't stress this enough. Governor's and Kernel Thread. That thread will teach you more than anything you want to know about kernel and governor tweaks. Some of these governors can send your phone to absolute battery immolation, while others can set your phone up to last 2x as long. I prefer the more conservative approach and end up with a ton of battery left at the end of the day. While these settings are important, the most important is yet to come.
APPS. I can't stress this enough. I used a quite a few different setups to find what all really uses battery, what doesn't, and what I should to to maximize my own battery. For those of you who don't know me at all, I work ten hours a day, and I used this time frame to measure the battery usage while it's sitting in my car for ten hours. I have a Trexcell 3800mAh battery, so it's roughly 2x the power as the stock battery.
What's the number one usage on my device? NOTIFICATIONS! All of those apps that automatically feed their greed by getting updates from the servers or whatever. Facebook, Hotmail, Tapatalk, and EVEN just the gMail app could drain 10% of my battery in ten hours. Let me show you my findings.. These are the normal apps I use that can automatically update over certain time frames.
Hotmail
Tapatalk (Xparent Red version)
gMail
Facebook
Now if they all automatically update on the stock settings, ten hours of work will mean I'm coming back to a phone with only 75% battery. With only 4-6 hours of deep sleep! That means these apps are waking my phone up to do whatever they want for quite a while. With all of them set to be manually updated; I come to 95-97% battery life. That's quite a stretch in a difference you know?
So, I tested each with the others off and here is what I found. (I tested for three days, wrote my results for each day, then switched to a different app)
Hotmail set to update hourly would leave me with about 90% of the battery at 4:30. Average deep sleep times were in the 8-9 hour ranges.
Tapatalk was setup stock for 15 minute updates. I'd lose at least 10% on the battery every day! Deep sleep however would range in the 8.5-9.5 hour range.
gMail was set to update hourly and would leave me with 95% each day with only keeping the phone awake for 30 minutes on average.
Facebook updates are odd; since they don't happen all the time. So I had a good friend post on my wall three times a day and noticed that it would eat a LOT of battery, usually 10-15% and keep my phone awake for about 30 minutes a pop.
Now I must note, for my tests I had almost nothing installed on the phone aside from the apps listed and the basic apps available in the blue Kuban rom. For the tests, I set google voice to do not disturb so phone calls and the like wouldn't be an issue.
With all four of the apps set to default updates however (no messages on facebook aside from one day), the battery life ranged from one day being 67%, second day ended with 74% and the third day left me with 72%. That's a LOT of battery for just sitting in my car.
After these findings, I've switched all my apps to update only when I manually refresh them, and I'll tell you what, my battery life has never been greater. I literally come home with 95% battery on average and can sit and play on my phone almost all night without charging until it's nightly stay on the charger.
Just some other tips I've learned along the way.
Wifi is a battery slaughterer if it's not connected. Driving around the city and having the wifi detect all kinds of networks is just battery slaughter. So, my rule of thumb now is, when I leave the house the wifi goes off. It's true that wifi uses less battery than 3g and 4g, but when you're picking up random networks and the radio is searching through them, it's just no good for the battery.
Brightness, it's a key. I can't stress this enough, if you don't need 100% brightness and want better battery life, turn that screen brightness down to an acceptable level.
As an ending to this short but sweet little tidbit of information, I'd like to share why I wrote this, did all this testing, and why it mattered to me since I have an extended battery. My phone is my link to the world, my family, potential jobs, and just my favorite handheld entertainment device. Me and my fiancee` both have the E4GT, and I have the extended battery. She has the stock battery and it doesn't last long at all for her. So my plan now is to work with her on her battery life, and give her this extended battery. I won't need it since I literally have to try to get to 50% battery life with it. I usually end up plugging my phone in for the night at 65-75% battery. I just figured I'd share this with people on the forum as maybe a different approach to saving some precious battery. If you like it, tap the thanks button. If you have any ideas to better this, let me know!

Just like to add for people to check their batteries lol...these stock batteries that come with the phone don't last all that long..a lot of these batteries go bad quick and need to be replaced (a simple spin of the battery will tell you if you need it changed)...and for a lot of people to stop constant deep charges and to charge when needed instead of pushing the battery to low critical levels

I will also add that if you're going to try and mess with settings such as I/O or over/under clocking do your research so you don't jack your phone trying to save a battery. I say this from experience lol

I understand leaving your phone on all day long so you can see texts and missed calls and stuff but why not just turn off your data during the day instead? I use this widget when I am in a poor signal area, don't need data, or sometimes overnight https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.data.enabler&hl=en Simple and effective and you can let your apps sync for times when you are using the phone
Undervolting also helps a little
Step 1. Install CM10 or ParanoidAndroid.
Step 2. PROFIT!
Battery life between stock and AOSP is night and day.
The questions about battery life are there because not every kernal is the same. Especially ones that are early in development. Pretty much every AOSP rom will defer some amount and even more so if 1 of them is in its early stages.

What most people need to know is no matter what tweaks are applied.. YMMV. It's all down to the user.. Best way to save battery on your phone.. Turn it off!!!! lol But I agree with the things posted. I'm always messing around to find the best settings.. So far i've gotten over a day (1d 3 hours) with over 2 hours screen on with my setup. Which is great for me. But all in all, it's how i use my phone.

I wanted to share some of my thoughts and experiences with battery life on my E4GT.
On GB I had great battery life...As soon as I got on any version of ICS I started having battery life issues. I eventually learned that my battery was buldging so I ordered a new one. Once I got my new battery, I thought life would be grand...NOT so much!!
Over the last month or so and ROM after ROM, tweak after tweak and even going straight stock I figure it was actually the device itself that was the problem...AND it was the problem from the day I got it last Dec. From reception to battery life to buzzing camera.
Something I've seen as is that "freezing" an app doesnt always disable it...I've had to completely uninstall something to get it to not run...even though its frozen and all of its startup references are disabled in Autostarts.
I dont care for the stock browser, but I've learned that 3rd party browsers such as Firefox and Chrome continue to run and use CPU even after exiting...Now, FIrefox has an actual "Quit" option while chrome doesnt...So if you Quit out of Firefox its ok, but unless you close your tab in Chrome it just keeps on chugging battery power.
A TEP replacement phone is what finally resolved my issues!!
I've only had my new phone for 2 days now, but I'm already seeing better battery than before, plus better reception and a camera that doesnt buzz.
I've got Agats ROM with the BluKuban 1.8 Kernel. This Kernel has a few more options enabled so I use that but I like how Agat put his FI27 ROM together.
Thanks for reading...

Also if you have a newer version of maps, make sure to go to settings-location settings and disable location reporting and location history, these two kill your battery when turned on.
