Hi everybody,
I got a GN 2 off ebay with the understanding it had a boot loop issue, thinking I could just odin it back to life. Well I tried odin and that didn't work. When I boot into stock recovery it states "E: failed to mount /efs" (invalid argument) which leads me to believe that the IMEI info is bunk.
Anyone got any idea's on what I can do short of sending it in for Jtag? Flash in odin with a PIT file, maybe?
Your help is greatly appreciated.

In error I pressed the re-partition in error in odin...what happens?
I was trying to flash clockwork and was rushing
If you used the PIT file it will put your partition table back to stock, which probably means it will be exactly the same for you. Without the PIT it probably will do nothing.

I was on MiJJz blend ICS "The goodness"
I flashed Codename Android as described in the FIRST post of the rom.
Now my phone is stuck on the Samsung Galaxy S II boot and I have stock android recovery.
Is there anything I can do to get my phone working again? I had flashed several roms before and never had a serious issue until now. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If it helps, I wiped cache and factory wipe, flashed Codename, then gapps. I realized now that the 4th post in the thread said to use cm7...
go into stock recovery and do a factory reset and wipe cache then reboot, see how it works, if it doesnt work. flash back to gingerbread using qbking's method.
I just noticed in recovery it says failed to mount /system (invalid argument)
I should have mentioned that I did try that already. I went ahead did the factory reset and wipe cache again, and it is still stuck on the same boot logo.
u have to go back to gingerbread using odin, and this time just flash cm7 b4 flashing cm9. qbking77 has a vid showing u how to install it

Odin back to GB and start again and after flashing in cm7 recovery don't forget the last factory reset before reboot

What recovery did you use to flash Codename? Make sure that it's FB21 or FB28 and not the FC's.
I really appreciate all the advice, seriously thank you all.
I tried searching and can't seem to find qbkings method, and I know I have seen it before.... I am into odin download mode on my phone, can anyone steer me in the right direction on getting the proper files to flash? I have never used odin except for the one touch root. Damn n00b
It's sfhub's method. Here ya go

Here's a list of all of them (the GB section). You can choose the kernel you want, but it doesn't matter that much.
I am back up and running!! Thanks again everyone, I was really worried that I was going to be going to sprint to try to get a new phone tomorrow.

If you haven't already, you need to go to Sfhubs auto root package to obtain cwm. Then you can flash the Rom of your choice

Got my replacement epic, decided to root it today.
Rooted a few epics, haven't had problems...until now.
Did the general stuff...odined CWM 5.0.2.7then booted phone to recovery.
The first problem i found.
1. the samsung boot screen did not flash on before cwm popped up
2. After cwm oped up the following messages appeared
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log

I then proceded to flash the deodexed prerooted BML FC09 rom.
I then realized, the phone won't boot...blank screen with lower buttons lit.
After a few tries the same results appear.
I've never had troubles rooting phones, ugh whats up.
Your replacement epic was on mtd. Meaning it was already rooted. That is why when you odined clockworkmod it did that error. Because you odined a BML recovery when the phone was on an mtd partition. ( at least this is my guess)
You'll have to repartition and odin a stock rom. Give me a second to get you the youtube how to.

i odined "SPH-D700-FC09-8Gb-REL" with re-partion checked before i odined the CWM the second time. same thing happened.
Might be odining the wrong recovery?
Also your supposed to odin the gba3.tar kernel from mkasick. Then odin clockwork mod.
Sent From My Sprint Galaxy Nexus via XDA Premium
thought the same thing, so i redownloaded the tar posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357655
and retried, same results.
Note: it let's me access the recovery, but booting rom's is broken and the 'SAMSUNG' boot screen doesn't show. As well as the messages posted above appear in the recov.
I'm tempted to odin to a froyo rom, use the One-click method, then upgrade my cwm and flash gingerbread and a new modem.
Weird this is above my head. Usually repartitioning cures all but this is just odd. The sd card in? Does it boot after flashing the stock rom?
Sent From My Sprint Galaxy Nexus via XDA Premium
SD card is in, If i odin back to stock then yes it will boot.
do you mean flash stock after odining CWM?

No... just flashing stock it boots. Then try flashing the gba3.tar from mkasick you can search... epic gb kernel source... and its the ei22 kernel. Try odining that then pop out the battery unplug the phone put back in the battery and go back into download mode. Odin in recovery and then see what happens.
Sent From My Sprint Galaxy Nexus via XDA Premium
so flash the gb3a ei22 kernel from http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...&highlight=epic+gb+kernel+source#post18512488 then flash cwm?
i'll post back with results.
Yep but you have to go back to stock first then do that.

no wonder it's not working.
still broken
Dunno then.... sorry

ugh...thanks for trying.
well, im flashing a prerooted froyo rom, i'll then proceed to flash the CWM5 via CWM3, then update to gingerbread. If this doesn't work its a HUUGGGEE waste of time.
I will then ask for another replacement EPIC as the lower buttons have a pretty bad response rate.
fixed, still have broken bootscreen.
EDIT: bootscreen only broken on stock, **** stock.
So you are all good now?

I've run into quite the problem with my AT&T Galaxy S3. It seems my file system has structure has changed and my internal sd card has been wiped. If I try to install a new ROM via CWM, I get the file choices, 0, legacy & obb...none of which have my rom in it.
I have tried to flash a new ROM via ODIN but it always gets stuck at the aboot.xxx portion of the flashing process (attempting to flash the stock room...just using pda in ODIN). I searched other forums and they suggested finding a firmware with PIT file so that I can repartition the S3.
All the firmwares I have downloaded contain a single file that goes in the PDA part of ODIN. Does anyone have any links to firmware zips that contain the PIT file? My phone doesn't boot past the Samsung bootscreen.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.
Sir, I understand your need but this type of thread is not for the Development Section...moved to the Q&A.
Thank You.

How exactly did you fix it? I am having a strange issue, where the phone will not boot and in recovery everything fails to mount ex: "e: cannot mount \cache" and so on. I've flashed a few different stock restores with no avail, and I think that the partitions are jacked.

First error in my experience is irrelevant to the ROM and doesn't affect flashing. I always get that error using TWRP 2.8.7.0 and have wondered what's the chase myself. I rarely use Odin so I can't really say, maybe the ROM needs to be specially formatted to be flashed through Odin?

Thanks for the reply. I guess we'll have to sit around to see if someone can shed some light. I thought maybe that was a reason why i couldnt flash roms successfully.

The vast majority of problems flashing with Odin can be traced to the connection between the phone and the pc, either the cable or one of the ports. If Odin recognizes the phone and you can start the flash but it fails, then it is very likely a connection problem.
