First time post here. my ATT Gal I747 used to sync with WMP 11 nicely but since I rooted my S3, it no longer sync music into my phone. It connects normally showing memory info and connected device in WMP but as soon as I click start sync, it only reaches 21% and is stuck there. Ive tried to copy and paste frm PC to my external storage and says "cannot copy canceling" Im certain its not my PC, I have all the latest samsung drivers installed. Ive tried numerous syncing apps/desktop apps and not one will sync. My question is it a media files usage rights thing, or is it a reformatting the external sd to allow permissions, or is it a usb composite driver missing from my phone that was in stock rom? (btw my stock rom backup took a crap and I dont have it saved.) Ive turned on usb debugger, used different usb ports on PC, other things Im not familiar with in develop options folder, so i will not mess with it. Im currently running slimrom 4.2.2 build 5 with gapps and nova which works great no issues, except for not syncing to PC. Thought about reinstalling WMP but its not a stand alone in win7. Sorry If I typed a whole chapter, just wanted to get all troubleshooting info. I researched online for a solution but couldnt find any. ive looked at reformatting apps for sd cards on line but most of them are for videocams or camera sds on top of not knowing how to format a sd card. TYVM for any suggestions or tips I havent thought of. Much appreciated.

I've had no issues, and really no need, to USB connect for a while, until my partner wanted me to bulk upload a lot of pictures recently taken at a family event. So I plugged the USB into the phone and attached the PC, an option appeared on the phone to connect SD card and I chose media transfer, then nothing. No icon, no options on the PC to browse the SD card. I've checked the official help pages and done a few of the things they ask you to do - shut down the phone, battery pull, unmounted then mount SD, restore system settings - but none of that has worked. I have even un-installed and reinstalled PC Companion, as advised, so the PC could re download the drivers but still nothing. I'm all out of idea so hopefully some of the helpful users on her could offer some advice.
Thanks.

Just going to bump this. Not sure is this is breaking any "rules" but it's been a couple of days. Most forums suggest leaving a thread 24hrs. It's beyond that.

I read in another thread that somebody had a similar problem like you. He had frozen or deleted an app. Can't remember the app name though.

Regards Dousan...
I found that to search the sd card its hest to use 'connect phone sd card mode' because mtp doesnt like sd cards with a lot on for some reason. So to connect it in mtp mode I've given up on answers anf just accept that to connect it I have to unmount my sd card and then it works perfectly. I havn't tried re-mounting the sd card after a successful connect though to be fair so you could try that?
Sent from my R800i using XDA App
Thanks to both of you. Tried unmounting and then connecting but it fails to install a driver, which is exactly the problem someone in the thread Dousan linked to. An MTP app? or some such. I'm not so techno savvy so im not sure if I would have deleted it in my haste for getting rid of things I don't use. Not sure if having that app would help.
I've had this Sprint Galaxy S II phone for about two or three weeks, and it just updated to 4.0.4. The only problems I am having are these:
1. power saving is set to come on at 50%, but it doesn't. Lately, I have been home and have been able to charge it or happened to look at it when it was just below 50%. If I go into the settings and manually uncheck and check it again, it turns on power saving. Any way to fix this?
2. I've never messed with the SD card yet. The card is the same as my old phone's, so there's stuff on it I can't delete. Anyway, I think they changed the way this connected to PCs because the old image of Andru on the screen is gone. So, now when I connect it, my computer thinks it's a camera. If the icons are in tile view, it won't show you the folder or file names. And it won't let me paste music (only thing I'm trying to do) onto the SD card. Now, FYI, my fiance just reinstalled my OS (XP) because of some computer problems I was having, so maybe there's some XP update I need for this to connect to the PC. If I can connect the card to the computer without the phone, I'll try that, but I don't know how.
I'm not sure about the power saving mode, but I ran into the issue with the sd card. I fixed it by installing the Samsung drivers (which can be found by a quick Google search, or by searching these forums) and turned on mass storage mode. I'm running xp as well and it shows up under removable storage F: & G: in the my computer folder. Hope this helps

How do you turn on mass storage mode? The Sprint guy had me download the drivers, but the device wasn't recognized by the PC when I did. I then got SP 3 for Windows, but I haven't noticed any difference, so I am not sure if there's something else my computer is missing.
When you connect the phone a us icon shows in the status bar, swipe down and touch the notification then it will allow you to turn it on.

I called Sprint today because I was still having this issue with the SD card, and they told me that since I was using Windows XP, I would never be able to see the SD card because it was too old an OS. I can't find anything online I should download, so I thought I'd check here again to see if there was a way around this. I figured if anyone would know, it would be the people on this forum.
P.S. I am still having the power saving mode issue but forgot to ask them about that.

lolwat? XP may be old, but not old enough to still support USB mass.
ICS uses a new USB setup for connecting using MTP, and another older mode I don't remember the letters for offhand. XP should read MTP but not the other, but you typically need Samsung drivers for either. Market has an app, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.zatta.USB_switch USB Switcher that will change the USB mode from MTP to mass, after rebooting your phone. Works on my E4GT, so presumably it might for yours. Hope that helps.
Edit: It is possible though for certain size cards to not be read by XP depending on certain settings or hardware, I dunno if that's what they meant by that, I assumed you meant connecting to the card via USB on the phone. If I got that wrong my apologies, hope this helps regardless.
I'm not sure how big my SD card is as the fiance gave it to me, and I don't recall. He is the computer expert around here, so I don't pay much attention to what he does to the computers, etc. Yes, dear, whatever you say dear. Dual core, 80 Gig, micro SD card reader...if he wants me to use it, I trust that it's good. He actually told me that he bought extra licenses for Win 7, so we could install it on my computer, but I am not a fan of how Win 7 programs are organized differently from their older versions. (I may be thinking of 2010 Office Suite and just lumping that in with 7). So, I told him maybe in two years I'd upgrade to 7. For now I'll just transfer the files between two computers with a flash drive.
I KNEW this was an ICS thing. Even though I had the phone for less than a month before the update and didn't remember plugging it into the computer before then. My phone does prompt file transfer for MTP and whatever acronym they use for pictures. And I'm like, fine, I'll deal with that, but when I try to use the programs suggested to transfer files, the programs freeze or don't recognize the phone as a device plugged in. It's a crapshoot. And I figure if they went through all the trouble of doing this media/photo file transfer thing for XP, why didn't they just use a little more effort to make the SD card contents visible?
So...unless a third party develops something that will provide SD card content viewing and editing, I will just go the long route and move files from my PC to a flash drive to the Win 7 PC to the phone.
i have a big issue for JB ROM, this quote is have same problem with me:

Wondering if anyone can help...
on JB, stock google apps and system apps won't recognize my SD Card at all, while outside apps have no problem recognizing it...?
for example, stock Gallery app won't bring up my pictures, mxplayer wont show videos, miui file explorer cannot count/read video files, music, and pictures, however Quick Pic has no problem. Root Explorer has no problem, Titanium Backup has no problem...but trying to access music or custom notifications for gmail/sms won't show up in the system apps (gmail, mms, etc).
another thing is when I plug my phone into my computer, none of my old files are there (but like I said they show up just fine with Root Explorer or any other file explorer).
I've tried every JB Rom available for Toro, yes I've tried SuperWipe, I've done it all.
Any ideas, fellas? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

maybe anyone can help me?
#thats some reason why some user not use JB ROM unnofficial
this is 1 of thread disscusion with the same issue http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1748326
A common reason for media content stored on SD cards not being shown on apps is that the sd card is not being properly scanned, this is supposed to happen everytime the phone starts... but it seems to be a common issue on ICS, even stock roms. I don't remember if JB has same issue.
I used Scan Media, from app market, then after a restart, I could access all my content again.
I've seen ppl recommends Rescan Media as well... you could try those.
It's really weird that you can't access your content when connected through usb to the computer. If you use MTP connection you could try MSC then, see if you can access them.
This is all I can think of, Good luck.

I do!!! I have recently installed this new ROM and I love it! One down of it is the battery life. But I've disabled gogle now services and my battery improved at almost 40% lol It's nice to have it but It's also annoying to charge your phone every four hours. Im retty sure there is a bug continuously running that drains the battery that fast.
NOw going back to the point, the bad problem is that my phone is not recognizing my memory card. Other programs recognize it like file manager and others but every time I go to gallery my phone doesnt recognize the pictures from it. Also the music player doesnt see the music I have on it either. Frustrating :/
I have done so far this:
1. Unmounted and re mounted the memory card using the ROM
2 Unmounted and re mounted the memory card using the ClockworkMod
3. Formatted the memory card many ways and different formats
4. Used a different (blank) memory card with one file
I also read another thread from previous codename ROMs about putting a null file on certain folders? I cant recall it right now, but theres is one thread about it. That did not work as well.
I guess we need to figure out more man. sad cuz I love this ROM

any solution??
After a couple of hours trying to find someone with the same problems as me I came up with nothing, so I decided to make a thread.
Firstly, I am no where near versed in device hacking so I am hoping these problems are just due to my ignorance.
My coworker rooted and loaded cm10 and teamwinrecovery onto my sprint GS3 and since then I have had a few issues. The most frustrating problem I am currently experiencing is the phone will not write anything to the external sd. There is no indication as to why this is the case. Under the storage option in settings it shows that it can read the external SD card yet programs seem to not be able to see that it is there. For example my camera will not give me the option to save photos to the external SD and programs like app 2 sd wont give me the option to transfer any of the apps to the SD card even ones that i know are supposed to work like Winamp. Also ive tried using DirectoryBind to change the directory of apps and music but I'm just prompted to create a new file because the data directory doesn't exist and asks if i want to create one. I tap yes and i am just prompted with the same error again and again.
My second main issue is when I dock my phone to my windows 7 PC I get an enigmatic problem. Either i get an error that says the USB malfunctioned and cannot be recognized and the SGS3 won't show up in mycomputer. Or, the default drivers install fine and the device will show up in windows. However, if i try syncing winamp or even dragging files over to my phone it will copy for anywhere from 1 second to 5 minutes and then windows will freeze and if i close the process it will crash windows and/or winamp. I tried installing the samsung usb drivers but then i just get a device ID error and it wont show up.
I was able to find some people with similar issues but not the constantly changing one i have. All the fixes that have been suggested have not worked.
I realize this is more likely an issue with my computer than my phone but when i was running stock it would work fine.
If anyone can provide some insight into these problems or can direct me to someone with a similar issue it would be much appreciated.
I really like CM10 but these issues are deal breakers for me and I dont really want to go through risking bricking my phone in order to try and get back to stock but i will if it will fix these problems.
So my friend, having made a move to the iPhone 6+, asked me to help her move pictures, etc. from her old phone to her new phone. Unfortunately, I don't know what went wrong and her phone (t989) won't connect to the computer. The notification that it's in USB mode doesn't show, the sd cards (internal and external) aren't being read / even visible on the computer, and it's a stupid phone that I personally want to destroy.
Caveats:
She is on Gingerbread still having never updated her phone. All her pictures are on her internal SD card too. Apps are of course restricted by her OS (but it wouldn't be that hard to find old apps, just time consuming). Google Play Store crashes frequently while downloading apps. She isn't rooted (obviously, I don't blame her since she isn't interested in all that, and the only root method seems to be to use ODIN, but that would wipe her internal clean which I don't want to do.
What I've done:
I've done a hard reset on the phone (shut down, remove battery, insert battery, turn on). Not sure if the seconds matter, but it was a quick take out, put in. Maybe a few seconds, definitely not 30 more. But when the phone turned on, her time went back to 1970 or something.
I've tried to copy the DCIM of the internal onto the external, but she has like 5k pictures and using My Files, it quits the transfer randomly without an indication where it quit or why.
AirDroid, but that gave me invalid package. Could have installed manually, but didn't have that much time and didn't think about it.
Bluetooth on the mac doesn't stay connected to the phone.
My goal:
Figure out how to connect to the computer preferably over USB. I still need to transfer her whatsapp messages too but without it showing up on the computer, I'm stuck. I've downloaded Samsung drivers, I have Samsung Kies installed. I just don't know what is wrong with it.
Any ideas? I've done all this on my laptop, but I told her to come over some day to use my desktop and see if it works on there (I was using a Windows Bootcamp partition on my macbook pro). I tried to connect the phone to OSX as well, but I didn't install Kies, which might be a reason... but the USB connected notification just doesn't want to come.
