Android on Rhodium... like on "real" andoid phone?

Hey guys!
Do you think, that android will EVER run as fast and smooth on a rhodium as it runs on a native andoid phone?
Can you guess aprox. when the time comes?

nobody can say this because all developers work on this in their free time and its their decission how much time they spend to this.
on the other hand there are many non solved problems and nobody can say if this problems can be fixed in 2 days or never.
so lets wait and see what great things devs can do in future

In theory it should run as smooth on Rhodium too I guess since they use the same kind of core hardwares such as processor and RAM.
The only thing I would guess is the drivers issues with the different hardwares such as keyboard, etc..., but as lhwparis said, the developers do it at their own time.
We just have to wish them good luck and appreciate their effort

If it is run off the SD card, I don't know if it will ever be as fast and smooth as a genuine Android phone. I think there is potential to get most if not all of the Android functionality at decent speeds but a genuine Android phone will still probably be faster and smoother.

Im pretty sure that Rhodium Android benchmarks faster than on other native android devices already using Android Market benchmarking apps.

Not completely true. The SD card is removable flash, the internal storage is just non-removable flash. If you get a fast enough SD card, there's no difference.
Also, Android can be flashed to the internal storage of a device with some cunning through the same idea they are using now (bootloading through Haret). Take a look at the Vogue and Kaiser threads.. The devs just have to work on that process, which I'm sure is not as important to them as getting Open GL working 100%, sound, and complete battery management.

Exactly. When you buy your next SD card, shell out the extra $10 or so and get a class 6. You won't regret it.

I want to clarify that, since I thought it just has some serious driver underdevelopment issues (like opengl, which is widely used by it) or some kind of slower debug build. On my phone it runs about two-three time slower than on a phone with native android (and lower cpu clock, but much lower screen resolution as well)

What are you comparing your phone to? Don't look at a Droid X or an EVO dude. You have to compare apples to apples - about the closest native Android hardware to our phones is/was the HTC Hero. So that's our benchmark basically.
With that said, there probably is some software improvements, but getting a higher class SD will definitely help as well. I heard boot times are probably the most to benefit from higher class SD - don't expect miracles tho, there's definitely still some things that need optimizing - I think at present the devs aren't exactly sure what those things are
Once the major bugs are squashed certainly the focus will then be more on stability, performance and battery life. We've gotten quite a few battery fixes lately, hopefully performance will be next on the docket

I was comparing it to the nearest phone I could touch, ZTE Racer ;-)
Racer has a 600MHz clock (okay, i thought it was slower than 528 (AFAIR) of TP2) and a pretty ****ty screen ;-). But that's not one of those 1G Snapdragons.
I wish TP2 ran Android like a brand new phone one day... ;-)

Having owned and used an HTC Hero and Samsung Moment I can tell you that the vanilla version (non-overclocked) of this build is about the same speed as the Hero. The overclocked version is faster than both when running on my class 6 card.

The issues are drivers, drivers, drivers and null assistance from HTC. With little more than the technical docs of the Qualcomm processor shared by the Rhodium as well as native HTC & other manufacturers Android devices the developers are nothing short of being friggin amazing. It's a lot of hit n miss trial n error and we the users are the beta testers.
My initial goal of being one of many beta testers was to see whether Android is a viable replacement for my WinMo device especially in light of Microsoft's direction with WP7.
HTC is helpful to XDA developers when it helps sell current devices. Unfortunately HTC in their shortsightedness fails to see the benefit of a successful Project Android being the springboard of many to a purchase a new native Android HTC device.
So will we have drivers, drivers, drivers to make the Rhodium as good or better than a similar hardware native Android device is a question no one can answer definitively when or if ever. For the time being, I like other beta testers will avoid phone calls like the plague, but nonetheless will have enough hands on to make an educated decision whether Android is right for them.

My setup of Android seems to be working pretty good minus a few small bugs. Main bug I would say is battery issues. All in all mine is damn quick,and definitely faster than the winmo on the device. My winmo is trim and pimped out but still runs like a turd. It's reliable but slow. My ole lady has the Epic Galaxy S, and it is indeed fast and smooth with particularly vivid color (amoled), but I am gaining a new appreciation for my TP2 again wth Android. My screen looks pretty sharp as well. I am bouncing back and forth from winmo to droid often, but I can manage to stay in droid for long periods and not miss a beat. Waking up to my new rooster alarm sound ain't too shabby either.
I am a stickler for response speeds, and winmo out of the box blew just like it does on computers. Linux has never let me down, and now neither will droid. I would like to have a way in droid to check my 10 different email address' and not just gmail, but I'm sure there's a way. Windows' ideas are ok but their performance/quality has always just been farts upwind.
One thing some people don't think about is the apps and stuff they choose to run and the things they do on their phone, but at least android attempts to warn you of the access the app is being granted on your device before you install. Phones today have cameras, mics, speakers, communications, GPS, and a G-sensor. The only thing they can't do is taste and smell (coming soon). All in all though, they are capable of knowing where you are, where you've been, what you say, and what you look like as well as possibly being remotely controlled. Enjoy, but beware

The only thing holding us back is the slow GPU and the resistive screen.

A slightly late reply. I've been using the Freelander branded version of this phone (Freelander i30) as my main device for the past month and a half, and I'm pretty impressed: it's the first Chinese phone I've used where everything works without much hassle, including GPS. Camera is also decent by normal standards, and perfectly usable for snapshots.
Its main drawback is limited 3G support, as only the 2100 frequency is supported. A couple other very minor annoyances are the digitizer grid which can be seen in direct sunlight by turning the phone at a certain angle, the tendency of the screen to get dirty, and the average in-call audio quality. They don't pose a problem in use, in fact I bet most owners won't even notice them.
As for the rest, it's pretty great: the screen is very bright with good viewing angles colors and contrast; signal reception is ok, about the same as most other phones I had; firmware support is excellent, with two official ROMs (plain Android and Lewa) and frequent updates; GPS is very quick to fix and usually gets to 5m precision; audio quality through the headphone jack is pretty good, even usable by audiophile standards. Battery life is great, with moderate use I can do more than 3 days, heavy use a full day with something to spare.
For its price it's a very good phone, with good community support (there's an excellent thread on 4pda with English recoveries, custom ROMs, etc.). If you have any questions just ask and I'll try to answer them.

Can you tell me that you have found 2 roms you mention?

Newman K1 ROMs are released on the Newman BBS (forum) in this thread, they can also be found on the 4PDA thread in the formware section.
If instead you meant if I like them, the Lewa ROM is beautiful and very well done, but I prefer stock Android. They both work very well, rooting is easy with motochopper.

That's great, thanks for your input. It's been a nightmare trying to find any community support for this phone (in English anyway!). I've just ordered this from Merimobiles. When you mention about the screen getting dirty quite easily, do you mean smudge marks easily appear or that dirt gets easily trapped at the sides of the screen ? And how average is the audio quality, is it fairly difficult to understand what someone is saying or is the clarity just missing ? Thanks

What I mean by saying the screen gets easily dirty is that it's pretty easy to leave smudges on it and they are less easily wiped without some sort of liquid (water is fine), as if it was missing an oleophobic coating or had a very weak one. From reading around it's a common issue with most Chinese phones, I guess they save a few pennies by using a weak/no coating. It's not a big issue, especially if you use a screen protector or even if you don't like me, I just clean it more often than other phones I had. You could also try a "diy" coating, there are threads by people using car wax or windshield water repellent liquids.
The audio is ok, now I don't even notice anything during calls. I only noticed it when switching from the Jiayu G3, which had better call quality. You won't probably notice anything out of place. I'm also using a more recent baseband than the stock one, from a Zopo phone using the same chipset (here, flash with cwm or copy modem.img to /etc/firmware then chmod 644) which seems to have improved things, but maybe it's just placebo.
All in all it's a pretty great phone. I installed the latest LewaOS from early June and it's super smooth, and beautiful. A bit bloated, but nothing that can't be remedied by deleting a few apks from /system/app.

PS - as for community support, there's an excellent thread on the Russian 4pda forum, split into a discussion thread and a firmware thread. You can use google translator and understand most of it, and there are links to all the drivers and ROMs in the firmware thread.
To download software just register, again using google translator. The only apparently difficult part is entering the captcha, but in practice you don't need to type cyrillic characters, just enter the sum of the two numbers displayed.
Another useful thread might be the one I started on the Italian androidiani forum, just search google for "newman k1 androidiani", in the first post I have collected a few useful links. Again, google translator allows you to grasp what you need.

I recently received my Newman k1. It is a very good phone, all works well. The only problem are the speakers:they're not bad, they're just not loud enough.
I have not missed any call because of it, anyway. Sorry for my bad English.

You can tweak audio levels from the engineer menu, search on google there are lots of threads on how to do it as it's the same process for all mediatek phones.

Depending on whre you buy it from they ship either the K1, K1A (labled as K1W), and as K1A panda under the name "Newsmy" Panda
K1 has 5 inch screen / K1A/W is 5.3 inches, though they share the exact specs, so any mods for one goes for the other. From what i had translated on their CHINESE forum, http://bbs.newamn.mobi, one is referred to the K1 area for flash, tweaks, ROMS, etc. Google does an OK job translating, you can get the general idea, but those Chinese characters, Whew! Pre-rooted from http://merimobiles.com (all their items are pre-rooted).
Onto the phone as a device for use, its a great device to start out with for tweaks and adjustments. The 5.3 screen is large enough to clearly see, The LEWA ROM is very smooth and though some say bloated, any apk's can be removed. Just do your research before making any adjustments.So yeah, smooth ROM out of the box. Simple font, based on android 4.2.1 though some options are in different places. Sound wise, it needs work, the headphone level is loud enough for inside listening but low enough to get drowned out by NYC traffic. As stated on other threads, this can be fixed..http://http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2248396. The screen can easily be scratched, it is thinly coated, and might do well with a DIY method or a screen protector. The memory leaves to desire however. They market it as having 1 g RAM//4gb Rom but its only a 2 gb ROM of which 1.5 is taken up by the OS. An external SD is a must, just got to Settings>Storage> and chose save to SD and SD for internal memory. You should be fine then.CAMERA is 8 mp main/ 2 mp front. Camera quality is good on this phone. Clear crisp, natural looking pictures in daylight. Flash is too bright.Audio is good quality, suitable for most, though not Sony. It will run on T-mobile/ATT in the USA but only at 2g speeds through EDGE/GSM/GPRS. If your texting and phone calls, your fine and may be settled. If its internet browsing, then its a bit slow to load. I use a VOIP program with Google voice to make free calls over WIFI. WIFI and Bluetooth connectivity is excellent. GPS locks in within 1 minute max, though better positioning may be had by a window. MTK 6589 chips are known for their poor GPS signals, and though even though its not a 6589T chip, it still works fine.

The overall responsiveness as well as multitasking CPU score is higher on the Micromax in comparison to the Moto E as well as the Xiomi Redmi 1S. The GPU however is a different story. In spite of the lower pixel count, the Mali 400 GPU has a lower score in comparison to the other two phones. Xiomi beats the device by a good 40% higher score on the synthetic test.
Issues:
1) The device does not support USB OTG out of the box. (Source)
2) The camera app and any other application that requires handling of picture or video files fails to save them without the presence of a microsd card in the card slot (Source via BGR)
3) Obviously, the entire GPL headache with Mediatek- Let us hope the partnership with Google compels them to release the CPU kernel sources so that we may have some android development on the forum. This would help so many devices that have been released in India over the past year.
Edit: Good news is that Google is making some inroads here. They released the 4.4.4 kernel sources on 17th September 2014.

That was a happy surprise- things are looking good for the long term viability of the devices if google commits to it this way in the future as well.

I bought this phone but facing lagging issue in games like subway surfers,temple run 2,youtube video playback.
it lags for just a fraction of a second sometimes,otherwise its fine.

On the contrary, its smoothest phone I've seen in a real long time. I have not done much gaming except SkyForce, which had frames dropped once in a while.

Yes exactly the frames drop but this is happening even in normal games like subway surfer ,so kindly check it and let me know, I think to go for replacement.

In my experience, battery life is decent. You can expect 18 hours of runtime with moderate use, including 2 hours of screen time. I wouldn't put too much weight on the overall numbers though, Android L is expected to have a good 30 to 50% increment in battery life compared to kitkat because of the move to ART runtime and project Volta.

After reading many reviews i heard that micromax has some issues in some.a1 handsets like connetivity,speaker problms ,and spice is good in a1 mobiles..
which one u suggest guys??

I have personally not experienced any problems- could be some people may be having issues though I don't know if the Spice variant is better than the MMX or if it is just a matter of MMX getting more customers causing the issue to be more apparent.
I would just go with any one of the three variants- I don't think any one is better than the others since the hardware is inherently the same.

i suggest mmx or karbonn. since eveything except the look is same, u want to get a phone which has good customer service. i bought karbonn. but there is some problem rooting as of now. I would recommend redmi if u want good hardware. that was my top choice. but i needed good updates. btw the battery sucks on this phone.

Google seems to have changed the way the bootloader and system partitions in this device work substantially enough that we now need a completely rehauled way of rooting, installing custom bootloader on the thing. Might take a few days for the developers to do that before we see new ROMs.
Edit: Varun over at Android one cross-development subforum has been successful at rooting the device as well as getting CWM recovery on the device.

LeEco Le Pro 3 Review (Real User Review)

Overall it's a very decent mobile however, it still has the flaws from the Le Max 2, large black bezels, no MicroSD or 3.5mm port are deal breakers for some. Audio from the type-c to 3.5mm adaptor is very clean and sounds great. No static and loud too.
The camera is a bit of a let down, no OIS still and while it can take some decent photos in good light, low light and video is not the greatest for a flagship mobile. The Chinese need to really step up their game on the camera department. I wouldn't by this mobile for the best camera, I would buy it for good performance and great battery life. I was able to get around 11 hours of SoC (continuous)

I want to buy the phone because it has great specs (does it feel as good as it sounds?) but I want to know if google services work flawlessly e.g. contact syncing,play store. Since you have this phone what is your general opinion about it, does it work buying it?

I also have this phone. No problem with Google services or Play store. Contactar syncing was perfect, with Google account and others account.
Two days with It and i like It a lot.
In my experience 6:30 of screen with 4G and almost without wifi.

I've received it today...very beautiful and work really good. We need an international ROM however.
I have this problem...it doesn't let me change or delete default APN. A problem I read is already present in other EUI smartphone someone has solved this Problem?

Thanks for that great review. Just some questions. Believe there are some like me who do not have access to LeEco products but are still keen on buying from an online reseller but have some concerns.
1. Are there any noticeable hardware issues? - understand that there are some complaints recently even on the le 2 that the display was not installed properly. Wondering if there are other types of defects that could render the device unusable for the obsessive compulsive people out there
2. What sort of rom is your unit using? - Importers/international sellers are known to meddle with the device to cater to the demands of their target demographic especially to those outside of china, hence, they can install fake roms (custom miui roms that don't receive updates for example) or install play store (after a restore to factory option, the gapps disappear)
3. The rom US units use seem to differ to the non-us units and the model numbers also differ. Would this be an issue if say the international rom is released and its not compatible with a unit bought from an importer? - had an issue before with a mi5 where the rom was an unofficial one and had to go through the hassle of unlocking the bootloader and installing the global rom instead
4.Any idea of software support in the long run and how prompt are LeEco's updates; ie Android N?

I know that US version x727 should be only 4/64 4gb ram and 64 GB ROM. It should have different LTE bands...in order to be used on us market.
Probably the us ROM couldn't be used on Chinese units.

I have been using pro3 (x720) for three weeks. The screen display picture occasionally shake for about 0.2 second. This is the most disturbing issue. You can find the same complain in the Chinese leEco forum. Beside, mobile signal is not as strong as the nexus 5 I used for almost 3 years. If you can ignore these two issue, it's a great phone to have.

We all running stock rom with/without root. I hope it's rom related issue. As of now ,no official rom zip is available from LeEco.

Just bought the 6/64 nonUS Version to use in Europe. Bought it after watching your review, thanks for that!....
Will directly root the phone in order to remove the chinese App's but wating for some plain Android rom's (stock Android). Had CM9 or so on a galaxy before and i wasnt that suprised as i supposed to be, but will also give it a try if it comes available to the Le Pro 3....
I'm sure with the actual specs and this awesome price the community behind the Pro3 will grow fast. Also i would donate 10€ to support the devs.

I just got my Chinese version (6GB/64GB Dual Sim) - The phone is lightning fast. Screen looks great - camera is okay (I just snap pics anyways not really a photo person). The screen is decent if not a bit washed out. Indoors is just fine - outdoors I have to crank it to about 85% to see it. The fingerprint reader seems lightning fast if not 100% accurate. ( I get about 4 out 5 times). It let me add multiple fingerprints to unlock left or right handed. Overall the build is pretty solid. I put in my att sim and did not have to do anything else. Picked up all my settings. My antutu scores are 162397 - just shy of iphone 7 scores. Apparently the install is not google certified. I cannot run Pokemon Go or Android Pay (and snapchat I am told I don't use it). Pokemon Go is the soul breaker for me...
The GPS seems to lock lightning quick. I have not had any issues with Google apps although some updating had to happen (google services, play app, mail app etc...).
The battery seems amazing. I am getting great times out of it I don't have exact numbers but so far so good at least as good as my s7 edge.
I was able to put the google now launcher on it so no issue with the leeco skin.
Hopefully with the US launch tomorrow it will have a google certified image so I can run Pokemon go if not I am not sure I will keep it.

Doogee x30 (32-bit) :: An Un-Boxing and Review

Introductions ::
Hello there, and welcome to my review of the DOOGEE x30 (32-bit – not L) smartphone! As a casual technology enthusiast, this sort of product truly fuels my interest in the mobile device industry. Manufacturers, like DOOGEE, constantly raise the bar of expectancy-vs-price, by either introducing highly sought-after features to cheaper devices or creating entirely new features that are then introduced through the budget market first. This practice of constantly improving the developing the low-end market makes for an interesting show when one goes to observe the ripples that this creates in the mobile device market as a while. These manufacturers, when they get the formula just right, create devices that can competently perform at a low price point, while displaying very little compromise in overall design, features, and quality. As such, I find the budget market to be an important part of the general mobile device market(place).
Now, for a bit of personal background. This is my third smartphone from DOOGEE, which means that I have a slight, inherent bias. However, I will do my best to curb such, for the sake of an honest and fair assessment of the device in question. I will start with the un-boxing experience, and move forward from there in a semi-natural progression, if you will. The included clips will (unfortunately) be presented in 720p30fps - not true HD. But, it should get the un-boxing experience across in a satisfactory manner - I hope.

Pros ::
The CPU is an MTK 6580, which is clocked at 1.3GHz - a decent CPU for this SoC, although 32-bit.*
This phone comes with 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM, which is better than what many other budget smartphones come with (less than 1GB in many cases). In fact, this SoC could be packed with up to 4GB of RAM if they wanted…
The 4-sensor Camera system truly sets this device apart from the competition in terms of photographic capabilities at this price-point (60-100 USD). They record at 5mp and 8mp respectively, meaning that the maximum resolution you can get for an image (from the rear cameras) is 3264 x 2448. Pretty nice for a sub-100 USD smartphone...
The metal frame also helps in terms of durability, and even adds to the overall visual appeal of the phone’s design.
The curved body makes it easy to hold, and ergonomically pleasing to the average user. No pain in the palms to speak of
The phone comes with Android 7, which is a great move - Android 8 is here, and DOOGEE can push an update whenever they’re ready. In addition to that (assuming that DOOGEE does update this phone), it gives users the option to decide on whether or not to move on to 8 - software options. But, while you’re waiting, you can play around with Quick Settings Customization - which is another plus.
This phone comes with 16GB of internal storage as an entry model, in opposed to 8GB (as seen in past models like the x5 and x6). This move is definitely one in the right direction…
The software that comes installed on this device initially appears quite close to stock (Google Apps and all - beyond AOSP) Android, which is great for those of you who want more control over the experience, or a simpler experience when using Android. It’s pretty difficult to spot most of the differences and deviations...
Cons ::
This model’s CPU is 32-bit, which limits the RAM and apps that can be used on this device. As such, it won’t be able to use any software that requires a 64-bit* architecture or more than 4GB of RAM. Remember the x5 Pro and x6 Pro models?
The RAM speed on this device is only 533MHz, which leaves it feeling like low-price DDR2/LPDDR2 (at around 500-600MHz), in opposed to the LPDDR3 it’s actually packing, which (in theory) can reach speeds of around 800MHz.
The Mali GPU included on this SoC is only 2 cores*, which is a bit underwhelming for obvious reasons. A higher clock speed could have helped this a bit.
It comes with some unnecessary apps, which can’t be completely removed without rooting. This needlessly reduces the amount of free storage space on the device. What’s up with the cat hanging from the top of the screen?! The approach used on the x5 and x6 Pro models should be used on this device instead.
It’s theme, while small in terms of performance impact, is an unnecessary and non-innovative deviation from a simpler Google/AOSP UI experience. Once again, the approach used on the x5 and x6 Pro models should be used on this device instead.
The screen, while being HD-Ready, is of the 720p/1080i variety - not the Full HD (1080p) that many have come to expect from their smartphones nowadays. But, this isn’t too much to bare.
The camera(s) only record at 5mp and 8mp respectively, meaning that the maximum resolution you can ever get for an image (from the rear cameras) is 3264 x 2448. While still images are quite nice, video recordings are locked in at 30fps, and may actually be at a lower resolution still.
This device can only receive so much expansion via the SD card slot - 32GB to be exact.
The SoC on this model doesn’t offer 4G(LTE)* capabilities, Bluetooth 5, NFC, or Wireless Charging.
It’s USB 2.0, instead of 3.0. An upgrade to 3.0 would have been nice...
Not so sure about how honest DOOGEE is about the camera.
Some apps I would remove (if I could) include:

* Integrate this feature into the Quick Settings - no need for another app
** Can be handled better with 3rd party apps

Conclusion ::
Overall, I think that this device is quite nicely-made for this price (60-70 USD), but could be improved upon a bit. While being a worthy successor to the single-digit x-models, I also think that there should be a higher-end model available, for those of us who are willing to pay to have many of these issues alleviated (around say, 100 USD - like last time). In addition to this, from having had the x5 Pro and x6 Pro models, I can’t help but feel just a bit let down this time around. Yet, there isn’t an x30 Pro. Perhaps the x30L* would answer the call? Although, I haven’t been able to find the darned thing, for sale, anywhere!
Overall Rating: 7.0/10
Bottom Line;
Good show, DOOGEE. You do have some places where you can improve. But, I can’t wait to see what you come up with next...

I actually purchased this phone for the mother-in-law. It literally just arrived today. Off the top, it's a very nice phone, especially for the sub-$70 I paid for it. I'm going to be working with this in-depth over the next few days in order to customize it (and see what tricks I can find). I'll report back when I'm done.
UPDATE: Just got this TWRP'd and rooted. Now I can see what this thing can do. :good:

Good to hear! I enjoy reviews of these smaller brands. Not everyone can afford a Note 8 cash-out.
I got a few more technical notes. Apologies if I ramble a bit, but I wanted to get this listed so that I don't forget. (Please let me know if you want me to post my root method as I don't want to hijack your thread. I didn't see any other threads pertinent to this phone posted yet.) These notes have to do with modding the phone and how it behaved for me afterwards.
As mentioned earlier, I rooted this phone after playing with the stock version a bit. A note about rooting - there are several posts online that mention rooting via SP Flash Tool. I never got this to work for me. Instead, using ADB and the TWRP version for this phone did the job (there is a trick in doing so as the install wasn't quite so straightforward). Once TWRP was installed, flashing SuperSU went as usual. Root Checker confirmed that root did take.
Custom recovery was possible because Doogee X30's flavor of Nougat 7.0 (which btw this phone has one of the few maker-created launchers that I pretty much like) contains a switch in Settings that allows you to make the bootloader unlockable. A quick run through ADB to actually do the unlocking worked perfectly. However, I now have a "Status Orange" message upon boot-up that claims the phone is now unsafe due to the bootloader unlock. But this doesn't seem to adversely impact operation (at least nothing obvious has presented itself) - very similar to the message I got when I did the same thing to the Galaxy Note 4.
I was able to use Kernel Auditor to do thinks like speed up the CPU and enable init.d (one of the requirements to get Viper4Android to work). CPU tweaks substantially enhanced this phone's performance.
Once rooted, customization became relatively easy. I targeted my usual apps to enhance the phone. SELinux Switcher, Adaway, BusyBox, Kernel Auditor (to tweak CPU performance and enable init.d), and Viper4Android (the package that includes Sony + Dolby Atmos). Rooted apps are all performing as expected.
The factory launcher is surprisingly lite and simple, and I did enjoy it. I would have kept it for the MIL, but I didn't see any obvious way to change the icon set so I went with Evie Launcher (if you see a way, though, please let me know). So far, Evie is working quite nicely.
Wifi speeds are pretty good for a phone in this class; I have no complaints. For cell data, based on the radios supported, this phone can only work at 3G/HSPA+ as there is no LTE radio. However I'll better be able to speak on that once I put in her SIM card and really give this a twirl on AT&T towers.
With the right modifications, I'd say this phone performs similar to those with a much higher pay point. Of course it's nothing near flagship level. However, for the amount of RAM and on-board storage, SD card support, headphone jack and REMOVABLE battery - I'd say this phone is a pretty sweet deal especially for people who just cannot or do not want to spend $$$ for a bunch of features they don't need. Plus if you break this sucker, you're not gonna cry over it. Just save up a few In-and-Out combos in a piggy bank and you can buy another one.
Oh yeah - one final note. Regarding cases, unless you want to pay Amazon's ridiculously jacked-up prices, it's best to order one through eBay from overseas. I got the pleather wallet model and it looks pretty decent. Just saw there is now a genuine full-leather one also on eBay.

Oh darn it! I just saw that you wanted to remove some system apps. Once rooted, there are apps in Playstore that should let you do just that.
In fact, thanks for that list. I'll check these out and see which ones I can dump. Is Themes tied to the launcher? If so, I may not touch it to avoid problems later. Speaking of Theme - that effing hanging cat can be turned off in the stock launcher settings. There is actually a switch for it. Sooooo annoying!
And your rating is very close to what others are giving (low to mid 7s), so it looks like your instincts are quite on the money.

Just added the first video. Once again, I'm kinda wishing that my dedicated camera was still operational (Nikon COOLPIX), but it stopped working a few months back. I had no option but the Nexus 7 camera (again). I've been using it as my camera for most of my videos where it isn't screen cap.

For those wondering how to root this phone, its actually pretty simple. THIS WILL ERASE EVERYTHING.
Assuming you know some basic adb commands..
You wanna start off with making sure your bootloader is unlocked, which can be done fairly easily with ADB tools.
Don't be alarmed when your phone resets a couple times, its erasing data and reformating.
Once your bootloader is unlocked and your phone restarts, remember to reenable USB debugging. and then go to fastboot mode again to flash our recovery.
(I used the recovery link listed in the SUflash method that comes up when googling 'x30 doogee root')
Once our recovery is installed, we'll wanna put the latest version of SuperSU (Make sure its the zip, not the apk) onto your phone/SD card. Boot into recovery, and install SuperSU through TWRP.

This device (unfortunately) actually sort needs root to even feel at-home with. Which is sad, because the x5 Pro and x6 Pro weren't like that. I rooted them advanced purposes - not to get them to a decent state...
