Hey ya'll.
I love testing new ROMs but I'm tired installing and uninstalling ROMs everyday. I wanted to know if it is possible to install dual ROMs on our phone. I tried to find info online but could find.
If it is possible, please recommend an app to manage the shooting with it.
Thanks.
DerTeufel1980 is working on a dual-boot kernel, apparently he already did it once on another device.

With the HTC HD2 it was (and still is) very easy. Just put the other rom on the external SD card, add a bootloader....and pick which one u want at boot time. I'm sure it must be possible with this...after all it is linux based.
Thanks for your comment.
As I was saying, I tried to find info for note 2 but could not find.
Does any one know on a bootloader which allows me to work with two ROMs?
anyone? :-/

Hi All,
I just got the galaxy nexus and I'd like to root it and get a custom rom. I'm totally new to android phones (although I have android tablets) and have no clue which custom rom will work best. I know of cyanogenmod. But there seems to be many others and I am wondering what at the moment is the best, most stable, newest build etc custom rom for the phone?
Any help and possibly some download things would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402341
This is smooth among the available ROMs.
Hope it helps.
My advice is simple... Try them all! then pick what is right for you. There are change logs and other info in the roms OP that address things that work and things that have issues. I tried a few and landed on the Gummy rom so far it has suited my needs.

Thanks a lot! Looks like a nice rom. I noticed the android version is 4.03. I have seen/read different articles on 4.04 and 4.05. I'm curious if there are any stable roms with the newest versions around. Might be too early though and I don't want to have a buggy rom.
hi folks,
i quite liked the fact to be able create my own rom with cyanogen repo, and i wanted to do the same with my one x, but i can t find any tutorial anywhere.
did i missed something?
where can i get a tutorial for create a rom from source (ICS) ?
thxx for helping
best regards
This is for a different phone, but the general steps are all very similar. At least it provides a starting point. If you've built previous versions of CM you will see that it's almost the same.

thank you very much for this great link, i gonna give it a try.
the global idea is to integrate this http://selinuxproject.org/page/SEAndroid into a rom.
i am surprised that nobody tried, couldn t find any tutorial about how integrate it into cyanogenmod.
Hi guys I have just flashed this ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1705334) however it is not the renovatePLUS version, how do I flash with the PLUS version, need it since it has mods and tweaks which I will need, auto-inverted rotating screen is driving me nuts!
FYI: I downloaded the plus zip but I dont know what to do with it, do I just extract into my phone? Because that did not work.
Also, I saw this guy, username(csec) with this signature (Phone: Renovated Endeavoru, F4, XM-Kernel #296 (Most fantastic combo in my entire experience with HOX)). I want to use have those thing stated, already have Renovate(will flash PLUS once I know how), and there is F4, anyone knows what that is? and finally XM-Kernel #296, which I believe is this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2136731), can anyone please confirm is that is a similar one that I can use? Sorry for asking so many question, I finally decided to go deeper with flashing kernels and stuff and I require some professional advice, so please help! Thank you!

It doesnt seem to state on that thread that I have to do it through recovery. But thanks anyway!
For kernels I have one more question. Can I just use the kernel as provided? Of course checking that it is meant for my device 1st. Because there seems to be this confusing thing called repacking...

I RUINED my device before with kernels i didn't know how to use them and obviously i bricked my device so please dont try anything unless u gain experience
Repacking is like making peanut and jam sandwich its like making the kernel work with ur rom if u are using renovate u dont need to repack for XM kernels

If there are no Ramdisc tweaks in the ROM, you don't need to repack the kernel... Mostly kernel repacking isn't needed for Sense roms... So you just have to flash the boot.img from the kernel's zip and then flash the modules from recovery...
AOSP/AOKP Roms need kernel repack each and every time before flashing!

Help once more!
Hi, so after researching a little bit more, I decided change my kernel to the XM kernel(original non-repacked), tried it for a few days, noticed that it response quite slowly compared to default kernel, things like slow display of lock screen upon power on, less smooth transition when. Could I have done it wrongly? Other than the slow response everything else seems fine, I noticed one of the features is S2W, I tried that on my buttons and it worked, however fast charge usb and usb mass storage isnt working, is there somewhere I can enable it or do you have an idea where I can find a guide for XM kernels that describes its features and functionality? Sorry for asking so many questions, thank you!
You have rather detailed instruction how to deal with fast charge and USB mass storage in XMister's thread (first one or two posts).
I suggest you install some of the kernel manageent applications:
- trickster MOD
- Set CPU
... There are many. Choose one that fits you (I am personally using Trickster).
There you will be able to play with your governors and scheduler, and thus achieve better performance or battery life. Or both. Check Q&A, there are few very educative threads about it.
You seem to be on a good way. Keep reading.
:good:
Hi all,
I'm fairly new to all of this. Have been on XDA before, but that was a while ago.
I don't like my standard Desire HD with 2.3.5 Android anymore. And there is no update for this.
So I thought I'd look here for a custom ROM which could be nice.
However, I've been told that a custom ROM has it's downsides. But before I just blindly believe those claims, I'd like to ask you guys to tell me what the truth is.
1. I've been told that there is no custom ROM which gives you ALL and every function. You always either loose the use of the camera, or the speaker doesn't work.
2. I've also been told that you cannot go on Google Play store when using a custom ROM.
3. They said that you cannot go back to the original HTC Android after rooting and using a custom ROM.
4. In most cases, a custom ROM will improve performance (compared to the stock HTC ROM).
5. And finally: they claim that when using a custom ROM, certain apps or games won't work.
I've got no clue about these things really, but I'm am kinda interested in the whole concept of rooting. I'm good with computers and learn fast, so I do think I can learn how to do this (eventually ).
Thanks.
1. False. At the very least, stock rooted ROMs like Android Revolution HD has everything working. For other ROMs, it depends.
2. False. Flash gapps if using an AOSP-based ROM and Play Store will show up. It comes with Sense ROMs.
3. To some extent, true. If you unlock the bootloader, HTC will know, even if you relock. And if there is no RUU for your original ROM you can't revert to your exact original ROM.
4. True. Depends on ROM optimizations.
5. False. See #1.
Great, thanks for the reply.
Seems for me that if I wanna use a custom ROM, I just need to find a custom ROM that will allow me to use Google Play Store.
Just wondering: what does RUU mean?

Any custom ROM will let you use the Play Store. If one doesn't include it preinstalled, it means that it's AOSP based and you just need to flash gapps. The OP of most ROM threads will have a link to the recommended version. A RUU is a region-specific executable distributed by HTC that installs and/or updates the stock ROM, bootloader, radio, and recovery.
Well, then it seems like I just have to learn what AOSP and Flash Gapps means .
Google is my friend.

GAPPS is Google APPS. Some roms come with all the google apps bundled some dont. The ones that dont you will need to flash the Gapps.zip file straight after flashing the rom.zip file.
Start with Android Revolution v6. Its all the same as you have got now, everything works. You can try v7 which is just a sense upgrade to sense 3.5. Both have gapps included.
If you want to try something new then give jellytime r10 or unofficial CM10.1. Both need gapps downloading seperatly and is linked to in the 1st post of each thread.
Many more roms available, happy flashing
Edit: neither of the last 2 are sense roms.
Thanks for the explanation and the tips!
Am I allowed to either open a new topic where I can ask which ROM is best suited for me, OR should/can I do that in this topic?
I've been browsing the topics in the development sub-forum, and most off them look great and sound great. Just not really sure if I should look for certain things.

Topics like that aren't allowed by forum rules. The usual advice is to try them for yourself.
Hi there, I'm new as galaxy note user and I saw a lot of custom rom. I'd like to know which one is the best custom rom for you for the p600 version.
Thank you so much

You are not going to get an answer to that question on XDA.
1. "Best rom" is a personal opinion
2. People are not going to claim a best because it kinda takes away from some devs who put a lot of hard work into their roms.
Download the available ones and try them all out. That's your answer.
The best advice we can give is to try a few and see what works for you. Different set ups give different results. Even with the same rom. It's why we don't allow comparison threads on xda. Our devs out in a lot of work to give users choice.
I've closed this, but enjoy trying some different builds.
