Manually updating hangouts - Nexus 4 Themes and Apps

Trying to do this and can't. My Nexus 7 is rooted, my 4 isn't. For my 7 I just deleted the talk apk in system/apps and reinstalled from the market. Since I can't do that on my 4,I decided to just pull the apk from my tablet and install. But it won't install. Just has an X and says "app not installed". Whats the deal here? I've done this before. Anyone got an apk file I can use?

I got this off another site a while ago. Flash in recovery. Then go into systems/apps after you boot up and run the Verizon SSO app. After that My Verizon and other apps will work.

Here's the one I use no need to flash in recovery. Found this off another site a while back

Not sure which file you used mine or the other one but you will get that after booting up until you go into system/app and run the Verizon SSO file. It will tell you it is already installed and do you want to overwrite. Say yes and install.
You are good to go after that.
I had to force close and clear all data before it worked but it's working great for me on CM10.

[Q] Hangouts thinks it's installed when it isn't

So my phone says Hangouts is installed but it is still the Google Talk icon, and the app looks like it is still Google Talk. I'm on stock 4.1.1 rooted, so how can I get actual Hangouts installed? Thanks
If you're rooted, you can manually install it by uninstalling talk. However, since you're stock you have to wait for them to push it out to all devices.

That is really annoying. So my iPhone 5 gets hangouts before my Android phone? LOL
Anyway to force it on now?
Thanks
EDIT: You can just download the apk file and install over Talk and it works just fine. Probably don't even need root access to do this.

Just install it from the browser
Someone posted the apk in here, what happened? I got it before but not really seeing why it can't be posted. It's not warez if it's free.

Install from the web play store. You can get there from your Nexus 4's Chrome browser. Just Google Search the Play Store

The apk was posted in your other thread, here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2282115

Talk is replaced with hang outs

Even if you do get it installed it'll probably just crash... I did a tibu backup of talk, updated to hangouts, didn't like it so removed with tibu, reinstalled the backup of talk and it never ran... couldn't even get hangouts to install until the most recent update...

Factory reset and flash rom and gapps again.
The key Google apps are set to start auto-upgrading without your consent soon, Google+ and a couple of others already have done this since I/O and I expect Hangouts to follow shortly, if you have a Google account on your device (which I assume you do as you want to use Talk) then don't be surprised if apps start to upgrade themselves without your knowledge.
Got it to work. Reflash built in with gapps got it to go

Trying to make a flashable zip...

Hi.
Trying to make stock 4.3 mms.apk flashable via TWRP for various reasons.
I've had a crack at it, flashed it in TWRP (stuck the zip on the device storage, selected install and then the zip etc) and...it said it installed ok, didnt throw up any errors however in android it doesnt look like it's actually installed?
apk is in the system folder but not showing in app drawer/can't launch it.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

No no the update script i had automagically set permissions.
This was something far more stupid...
I forgot to flash the odex file with it :|
But something strange i've never seen before, when i loaded messaging after the flash it popped up with a very gingerbread looking box asking me to set a message limit for conversations hmmmmmm...
Anyways, here's hoping this works when the time comes to need it...
It's part of my android 4.4 still being usable plan due to a hatred of hangouts...either on my GN or if i get a nexus 5 (and assuming all leaks are true and messaging app is being ditched in favour of hangouts).
Annoyingly this flash didnt work on the other device i tried...i dont know if that's because i tried flashing it to a nexus 7 where it doesnt want to work or if i'm an idiot and i don't know what i'm doing. probably the latter...
*edit*
i dunno, i guess i'm just an idiot.
Anyways, deodex'd the Mms.apk with http://www.xda-developers.com/android/deodex-all-the-things-with-universal-deodexer/ after a quick google...
and that happily installs on the nexus 7...so yay. Guess i'll use that going forward (i did the deodex at default OS version and left compression level at 5 because i dont know any better).
But at least it works so when the world ends and google try to force hangouts on me even more i have a backup...
