[Q] Hangouts thinks it's installed when it isn't - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

So my phone says Hangouts is installed but it is still the Google Talk icon, and the app looks like it is still Google Talk. I'm on stock 4.1.1 rooted, so how can I get actual Hangouts installed? Thanks

If you're rooted, you can manually install it by uninstalling talk. However, since you're stock you have to wait for them to push it out to all devices.

That is really annoying. So my iPhone 5 gets hangouts before my Android phone? LOL
Anyway to force it on now?
Thanks
EDIT: You can just download the apk file and install over Talk and it works just fine. Probably don't even need root access to do this.

Another google wallet question...

Will google wallet not work on a rooted galaxy nexus? It says unsupported device cause its rooted and ive tried a few times to use it and it wont work...or am i doing something wrong? Thanks

It will work, if you restored the app from a back up, try and this go into the settings in the app and rest the account, you won't lose your money but that helped me it when i switched kernel s

are you trying to install the .apk for google wallet?
I started getting that message a few days after I updated to the latest G Wallet. When I first opened it, it asked for root access and I allowed it. A few days later, I started getting the message and the app quit working. I uninstalled, reinstalled, restored from titanium, etc. Nothing worked. Finally, I tried installing and using a different Google account. The message hasn't been back and it works when i use it. It seems that if you allow root access, google takes note of your account and the fact that you are using a rooted device, but if you use a different account it'll work. Not the ideal workaround, especially if you associate your bank cards with your google account, but its working for me.
Look to pickup the nexus this weekend, i am look to rooted but use the stock. I would like know to know will i get the error unsupported device on the stock rom with G wallet
From what I'm reading it will work, only we are warned that there are no promises that it won't be hacked....

Wallet not working on JB

So, after flashing JB and playing with it for some time I downloaded the Google wallet apk. When I wanted to install it, it asked me if I want to replace a system app. But I didn't have it in the app drawer. So I installed the downloaded apk, but it still doesn't show.
Additional info:
*I am not in the US
*I have market enabler
This is a preview build, certain things aren't going to work right.
I was able to set up wallet just fine on my phone w/ jb.

wallet works fine on jellybean...just used it this morning
if you live outside the US you need modaco's patched version.
So i found the problem!
With root uninstaller I could see that the app was "DISABLED"
well thank you soo soo much k.janku1 it was indeed disabled as was Google sound search music recognition and google magazines so im a happy bunny now.

Googles Hangouts unrestricted video over 3g, LTE.

The app is in the play store. It was written for the former app Talk but it still works.
If you tic the box to activate it for some reason it will making playstore think your app needs to update. So DO NOt set auto update on the talk app.

I tested it on stock based rom only.
Enjoy!

The new hangout update killed it.
I hope gtalk enabler updates soon

I have a workaround for this. Uninstall hangouts. Uninstall Google play services update. Clear play store data. Install market enabler (search for ask on Google). Launch enabler and change to tmo us. Launch play store, install hangouts, run hangouts, update Google play services. Now you should be able to run video chat over cell data. This was persistent through reboot with the market enabler being set on reboot.

@derekedw I don't get the market enabler at all, please give more explanations

This much easier method still works perfectly well

This is strange because I know a few months ago I couldn't hangout over cell towers but since an update a little after that I've never had an issue.
I used it just the other day because my Wi-Fi at work blocks video chat services. Maybe it's because I'm running a custom Rom?

Even if you do get it installed it'll probably just crash... I did a tibu backup of talk, updated to hangouts, didn't like it so removed with tibu, reinstalled the backup of talk and it never ran... couldn't even get hangouts to install until the most recent update...

Factory reset and flash rom and gapps again.
The key Google apps are set to start auto-upgrading without your consent soon, Google+ and a couple of others already have done this since I/O and I expect Hangouts to follow shortly, if you have a Google account on your device (which I assume you do as you want to use Talk) then don't be surprised if apps start to upgrade themselves without your knowledge.
Got it to work. Reflash built in with gapps got it to go

Anyone who is having difficulty getting SMS working in Hangouts.

I could not get it to work on the version i downloaded from the Play Store (couldn't even see the SMS options). So, I got the Hangouts apk from a Nexus 5 system dump and installed it.
I figured i'd share the working fix and apk to try and solve anyone elses issues out there. The apk I used is linked on my dropbox below:

I'm running the latest Jedi ROM and installed the Hangouts 2 apk from http://www.androidpolice.com/2013/11/07/apk-download-hangouts-2-0-with-sms-support-finally-hits-the-play-store-newer-version-should-fix-broken-video-chat/
My SMS works perfectly with Hangouts 2. What ROM are you on? Try the apk in the link I provided and see if that works for you.
Any of you guys know a way to get hangouts to act like sms notification on the lock screen? I. E. Screen Wake with circle that says your text and brings you to most recent message.
