Trying to make a flashable zip... - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hi.
Trying to make stock 4.3 mms.apk flashable via TWRP for various reasons.
I've had a crack at it, flashed it in TWRP (stuck the zip on the device storage, selected install and then the zip etc) and...it said it installed ok, didnt throw up any errors however in android it doesnt look like it's actually installed?
apk is in the system folder but not showing in app drawer/can't launch it.
Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

mmm yeah that's what i followed when i was trying to do it...
pulled the APK from /system/app, followed that guide, tried to flash in TWRP and...well the apk shows in /system/app but it wont run :|

Probably need to set permissions..

No no the update script i had automagically set permissions.
This was something far more stupid...
I forgot to flash the odex file with it :|
But something strange i've never seen before, when i loaded messaging after the flash it popped up with a very gingerbread looking box asking me to set a message limit for conversations hmmmmmm...
Anyways, here's hoping this works when the time comes to need it...
It's part of my android 4.4 still being usable plan due to a hatred of hangouts...either on my GN or if i get a nexus 5 (and assuming all leaks are true and messaging app is being ditched in favour of hangouts).
Annoyingly this flash didnt work on the other device i tried...i dont know if that's because i tried flashing it to a nexus 7 where it doesnt want to work or if i'm an idiot and i don't know what i'm doing. probably the latter...
*edit*
i dunno, i guess i'm just an idiot.
Anyways, deodex'd the Mms.apk with http://www.xda-developers.com/android/deodex-all-the-things-with-universal-deodexer/ after a quick google...
and that happily installs on the nexus 7...so yay. Guess i'll use that going forward (i did the deodex at default OS version and left compression level at 5 because i dont know any better).
But at least it works so when the world ends and google try to force hangouts on me even more i have a backup...

Flash Player APK (UPDATED)

Adobe has stopped allowing downloads for Flash Player on all devices running Jelly Bean, including the Nexus 7. This APK has been tested and works great on the Nexus 7 so far with 4.2.1.

couple questions...
1. so will this allow flash to be used on chrome?
1a. if it doesnt work with chrome, what's the benefit of a standalone apk versus getting a browser that can use flash?
2. do you have to be rooted for this to work?
thanks!

1. No, chrome does not support flash.
2. You need the flash apk to be able to use flash in a browser that supports flash I.e. dolphin browser
3. No, you do not. Just make sure you go to setting, security, and click the unknown sources check box before you try to install the app.

Theres no default file browser installed so get something like Astro:
These are the instructions I followed, can't remember if I used the APK linked on that site or not, so to be safe use the one linked above.
PS : This five minute spam rule is annoying. (but can see why its here).
i installed the flash apk but when i try to view a flash movie it crashes the browser (opera mini, maxthon, and dolphin hd)
thanks works awesome on my nexus 7 and on my galaxy nexus

Thanks for the apk. You can download it straight to your tablet if it was not gziped and just install it with a file manager... On another note, I didn't really see the point of putting it back on my tablet after downloading it to my PC since I already had the sdk installed.
Code:
adb install -r com.adobe.flashplayer-3f0d57a34bf0204acb2f9b310aa37ac7.apk
did the trick and installed it just fine for me..

Now if we could get a working AOSP Browser for the N7 because I'm not too fond of Dolphin and the other 3rd party browsers.

If you are using Dolphin as a Flash solution Do Not update to 8.6 which just came out. It completely removes the ability to use Flash for Jelly Bean even if you have it side loaded. It gives a message that they will no longer be supporting it for Android 4.1+

I would rename your current calender to .bak instead of .apk so you still have it. Then using root explorer move this apk to system/apps the long press it. Click change permissions and I believe they should be set to rw/r/r. Good luck!

It's pretty simple. However this process still did not work on my rooted SGSII. But for future reference of these types of system files here ya go.
- Use Root Explorer to place the file in the System/App folder in the directory
- If the new file is a different name then you can easily just place it in that folder ( of course you have to change Root Explorer to R/O mode instead of R/W mode ) - ( if its the same name then just rename the old file to something you can remember )
- Permissions for most apps would be RW, R, R. Just click on the file and select "Permissions". After you do that you do need to re-boot the device to save the settings.
Note: I did try this with this calendar and it did not work. We actually need a SSGSIII Calendar ported to work on an SGII. I am not smart enough to make that happen. Although I would like to be able to do such things someday. Hope this helps at least for future reference.
I'm pledging $10 towards the Dev who can get the S-Calendar ported yo the T-Mobile SGS-2. Maybe more if it is done by Monday. I know it's not a lot, but it's what I can give.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but this seemed like the most relevant place to post.
I recently put CarbonROM on my phone and, after playing around with it for a bit, realize I absolutely hate the google calendar and just want my old calendar back. I downloaded the apk provided in this thread and attempted to install it but it says I already have the app. Sure enough, if I go to Settings > Apps, it shows up as Calendar Storage, but there is no icon anywhere, such as in my app drawer, that allows me to load the program. I even tried using QuickShortcutMaker, but it can't find the calendar anywhere in the list of apps to make a shortcut. Does anybody know what I can do?
Same situation here with carbon Rom.
Anyone know how to get it working?

I am not sure, but it would seem, S Planer doesn't work on any other ROM than the Samsung Official ROM.
I don't know why... I've testing a lot of possibilities (replace the original AOKP's apk by the Samsung's apk, do a wipe Dalvik, wipe cache, modify the permissions...), a lot of apk (recovered here, recovered on an original v4.1.2 samsung's ROM, recovered on the testing v4.2.2 Samsung ROM...), and it never work on my CyanoGen Mod 10.1...
It isn't an incompatibility with an other home than TouchWiz because I've never use this home with my previous Samsung's ROM and S Planer working correctly...
I will continue to looking to do working S Planer with an other ROM, but I have little hope... :crying:

If the above doesn't work, you could try pushing all the files manually, then fixing the permissions. That's how I installed it, twice. Open up the .zip to see where all the files are to be placed. If there are any duplicates, replace them with the new, but save the old ones first to a labeled folder, of course. That's in case you want to go back.
I tried your link. I already had that Google now zip but I re downloaded and tried again. Flashed but still nothing happened... This is really annoying Idk why it's not working. I'm just on stock rooted rom from mobile Odin. I mean flashing other things work. I flashed a theme mod and it worked fine. Why is this not working!
I'm not sure how to push manually but ill try opening like you said and try to figure it out.

The meta INF folder isn't supposed to be pushed, that is a list of instuctions that places all the other files in their proper places when the zip is flashed in recovery. The velvet.apk is the most important part. I'm not sure what you mean by "couldn't install" it. If you tried using the Android installer, that would probably make sense as it doesn't always work with modded apk's. You would have to copy/past it into /system/app manually, first either copying the existing one to another location on your sd card or just leaving it where it is and renaming it "velvet.apk.bak". Then all of the files that you pushed have to have their permissions set correctly. Just follow what you already see for the various .apk's, files, and folders. Then you should reboot. Now before doing any of this (any changes at all) make a nandroid so if something goes really wrong you can restore back to where you were.
EDIT: I see you solved your problem. Good show!
In the new update the name of the google search apk change so most of the zips floating around for Google now havent updated to the new name so yes just deleting it will work untill the updater-script changes in the zips
So I have it installed but it says a new version is available in the play store. Obviously can't get it from the store but is there an updated version that works on our phone?

No, we on ICS just have to ignore that for now. Someone (a new dev) in the original thread claimed he could mod the updated version for us, but many are skeptical.
EDIT: What you can do is get the present GN to display your sports teams. Before the devs stopped working on this, an Aussie developer came real close to getting it working. What you can do is temporarily replace the velvet.apk and use the updated lib file. This will allow you to set teams. The problem with this version for me is that is was mute. I would not talk back no matter what plus it would force close every time I tapped "show more cards". So the thing to do is restore the original valve.apk after you've go your teams set (set every single team you are interested in before you restore the original velvet.apk) and that's it. They will always show up after that through a Titanium restore when you flash another ROM and you won't have to repeat this process again. The other way guys were doing this was to flash a Jelly Bean ROM, set their teams in GN, then flash back to ICS. This is a shortcut to that process. Unfortunately, the movie listings and emergency notifications available in the JB version of Google Now won't stick once you go back. I'll link you to the post. Incidentally, I pushed these manually too then fixed permissions. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31991861&postcount=5824

I wonder if I missed a version that allows that. I've followed the GN thread for quite some time and only the JB versions could allow adding sports teams. In our version the settings are there, but they don't work AFAIK. I'm keeping my eye on the new JB port by DocHoliday. As soon as he adds in WifiCalling Im going to flash it and enjoy all of GN. Or, flash the real thing if the rumor that T-Mob is releasing JB or Wednesday is true, lol.

[App-DEV] MyScript Mobile for SGH-i957

Regarding This forum:

This app was ported from the Xoom to the Note 2... (it works perfectly on my Note 2) and I managed to create a flashable zip for the SHG-I957...
After flashing it... just wipe Cache and Dalvik and then you will see the app in the app list... Now...
---> When you run it for the first time, it gives a certificate error and it closes... then, you can open it a million times and it will work fine....
I believe it should be a dumb error and anyone with a bit knowledge can make it work on the tab too...
Here are the files... (Note 2 working version & SHG-I957 ported version with dumb cert error...)
any help would be great for me and everyone here...so we can all have the app on our tab.

http://d-h.st/PkM
Here is what the Readme file says from the link above:
By TweakerL
By no mean I take credit for any files in this package. All I have done is put everything in a single place and write these instructions.
Please read all these instructions before proceeding, failing to do so will most likely result in stupid questions, in which case I'll have to make fun of you.
1. Every app can be installed, i.e. you don't have to copy them to /system/app.
2. In order for Google Now/Google Seach to work properly you MUST copy libgoogle_recognizer_jni_l.so to /system/lib, replacing the original when asked.
3. In order for the Camera to work properly (namely the photosphere) you must copy libjni_filtershow_filters.so, libjni_mosaic.so and liblightcycle.so to /system/lib.
4. Some of the apps depend on Google Services 4 in order to work. Because of this I highly suggest that you install PrebuiltGmsCore.apk before installing any of the other apps.
5. You may not be able to install Maps.apk until you uninstall the one already present in your device.
6. Anything that requires adding/replace lib files requires that you be rooted. No way around it.
7. Before replacing/uninstalling anything that's already installed on your device, I suggest you perform a backup of the original in case anything should go wrong. You've been warned!
Thanks bro!! When I have some spare time I will check this out.

Ran fix for Google search found on phandroid. For some reason, my phone has no use for the prebuiltgmscore.apk. previous attempts renaming to gmscore and copy pasting into system/app failed for me. Weird, but I am not complaining as it work flawlessly.
