I just got the genuine samsung MHL adapter for my Galaxy s2. The touch is not working properly when i connect it to hdmi cable.
It showing the mobile stuff on my TV but the touch is really lagging and i am hardly able to use my phone when connected to hdmi cable. Is there any specific hdmi cable required to make it working or there is some setting i can adjust to make it workin?
I am interested in hooking up my GN to a monitor along with a mouse and keyboard. I just got bored and thought it would be fun to use my phone as a sort of computer.
I have made my own OTG USB cable and have hooked up everything separately and have full functionality of everything individually. The problem lies in the fact that video out requires a MHL HDMI adaptor... which occupies the USB plug on the phone, my only thought has been to use a USB hub as I don't have a bluetooth keyboard and mouse.
Before I go tearing up my MHL HDMI adaptor, does anyone know if it is possible to plug the MHL adaptor into the USB hub and have it work? Are there some issues with power that I haven't even considered, since the MHL adaptor has to have its own power and even supplies the phone with electricity when connected?
Its only a $10 part, so I am going to do it if I don't get a solid answer here and will report back if it works.
Thanks
Sorry, no it won't work. When the MHL is plugged in, the USB pins are reconfigured to do the video, USB data can't work simultaneously. The best way is to get bluetooth keyboard and mouse and use the MHL adapter for the video.
As in title, is it possible to use MHL with OTG?
I mean like that : Phone->MHL->OTG, MHL need power to work from what I know, so what about mircoUSB Y cable-> MHL + OTG?
Negative friend. It does not work. Even if you have the connecters, the micro USB can only act as one or the the other at a time.
Thats the ONLY reason I bought an apple magic trackpad (the only bluetooth peripheral with pinch to zoom, yada yada), to control gnex when its pushing mhl to tv. See living digitally for a demo.
But does the device charge, when connected to MHL adapter then?
Yes, the MHL adapter needs to be plugged into a microUSB to function, it does power the phone. And if you are only pushing HDMI out, it should charge.
I have a fast charge ROM&kernel, so it will charge even if using hdmi, bluetooth, dowloading torrents....
Thank you, I just asked, as I will soon get the device, for now I only ordered the extended battery, and desktop dock. Not really want to use the usb port too much, also I dont know if I will need hdmi, btw, the hdmi dock have a usb port, but the dock not mirror the screen, only good for videos, and photos, so maybe it can use otg? I'm not sure, if the usb port only for charging, but again, it not use hdmi all the time, also I guess no good for games, mhl sucks guys, why couldnt they use separate hdmi, like motorola?
Not 100% sure, but I think the USB in the dock is only for charging, check out the reviews.
As for single port, I believe the Gnex, being google's vision for the fututre, is ahead of its time. Its supposed to be all wireless connections soon. Google Smart TV, bluetooth 3 & 4, WiDi, NFC.... see the trend. I'm suprised there are fewer bluetooth peripherals.
I would look at the next motorola phones to see where the future is going...
Is it possible to connect the Galaxy SIII to a portable USB monitor? There are a lot of portable monitors with HDMI input (5" to 10") using for camera but they are expensive. Some cheaper monitors only have USB input. I wonder whether is it possible to connect the phone to those. If yes, how about the sound, bcz cell phone only has one mini-USB output that can be used as HDMI output?
How about connecting the phone to a cheap portable HDTV?
Just got my galaxy tab and cannot get the official Samsung mhl hdmi adapter to output to my onkyo tx-nr636. The receiver has a dedicated mhl hdmi in and is fully hdcp 2.2 compliant. The tablet recognizes it is connected but insists it be connected directly to my tv. (This works) Has Samsung deliberately crippled this tablet? If so, are there any workarounds to get streaming audio and video to a receiver? I'm looking for as high a quality as possible as it is feeding my 150" protection screen. I'm incensed that this is even an issue.
I just found out that I have the same problem with my Tab S 8.4. It works when connected to a regular HDMI connector + USB port on my TV, but does not work when connected to the MHL connector on my Onkyo NR-616. The front connector on the Onkyo is a true MHL connector, which means that it provides both HDMI and power to the device. Most devices provide only HDMI which means that you need an additional USB power source to power the setup. The Onkyo front Aux/MHL connector works perfectly with my Galaxy S5 phone. When I plug in the Tab S, it appears to try to connect, but can't. I think that this is not intentional on the part of Samsung but is a bug. Maybe it will be fixed with a future software update (not holding my breath on that one).
I have no problems streaming hi def content to my chromecast through my yammy receiver to my pj.
