Here are tweaks that I followed when I was with the Epic4gt (galaxy S2).
Its a great Ram Booster and its for all androids....

I had an E4GT! I should've thought to try this on my LGOG! It sped my E4GT up SO much! I'll test to see how it does on the LGOG!
SO many abbreviations!

A lot of these tweaks are built into most roms, including lifeless.
Also besides the possible placebo effect. It's just rearranging how aggressively apps are killed.
Not taking anything away from the modder, just pointing it out.

i can vouch for exit coming from e4gt as well.. they are built into roms but he takes it a bit further.. phakeer is another that was crazy with the scripts! call it placebo or not, it helps imo . i for one am gonna use exits tweaks. they arent built into my rom (not on lifeless).

[Q] Do I really need to flash custom rom to make GN better than it is..?

Hi
Before I jump ship and flashing custom rom, I would like to ask you this..
by gaining the benefits of..
- All those flashy new kernel
- RAM optimizations
- Speed optimizations
- SD Card speed tweak
- Zipaligned
- de-odexed
- and millions other things :/
.. would make GN "Faster/Smoother or even Better" ?
Before and after flashed, do you notice any improvement in "practical" everyday use?
Cheers
i think you should check the custom roms that are avaiable and see on wich parts they improve...

The particular things you quoted seem like a bunch of fluff, to me. And at least one (deodexed) actually can make things a bit slower.

Then why de-odexed is always there in every custom rom? What is the purpose of it?

when a ROM is odexed, its done to save space from its APKs, but by deodexing, its much easier to modify parts of APKs. This is primarily used when it comes to theming.
The performance impact is rather negligible, although as matt2053, it "can" make things slower.
Generally though, while the first boot or so might be slow, once that dalvik-cache gets populated, you won't really notice any differences.
I have flashed the main 2.... and not trying to mess with O/C there is some difference in the speed but not much. But you do get a few features like landscape homescreen that are nice.

Seeking Best Build Prop & Kernel Tweaks E4GT

I thought this might be a good place to ask and help those
( including myself ) to tweak the Build Prop and Kernel tweaks
using the great app Rom toolbox. And since Trial and error can sometimes spell disaster ( Brick ) I thought that by asking for already established safe but optimized settings it would be a big help. I am personally looking for faster performance and/or better battery life despite Running Blazer Rom 4.0 ( which I am very happy with...although it is my first Rom on my E4Gt ( sprint ) I am a newbie- But ambitious in learning without
bricking. Please post any optimized settings that will help anybody looking for same things. Thanks !!
Here is a good guide with explanations and codes.

YW.
Actually there are more sites and guides. Just google init.d tweaks or init.d scripts.
I like this particular one because of all explanations of what each line of code does.
Blazer has all these tweaks incorporated in the ROM already.

thanks & More for tweaks
Thanks- Yes- Blazer has a very nice list of tweaks- But It is my belief that there is always room for improvement- I dont know how much- But if not- there wouldnt be a Blazer 4.1 if there wasnt. Anyhow- I added the script magic of V6 Supercharger to enhance an already great Rom and Phone. ( My battery life still had some more improvement in my opinion...) Besides the other miscellaneous tweaks I felt could be added. But- I am no expert-
Best build.prop tweaks in my humble opinion are as follows
debug.hw.sf=1
This Renders GPU with UI by default
debug.performance.tuning=1
General performance enhancement
There are a bunch of others I have written down. I will add more when I get off from work tomorrow. I have numerious tweaks in my ics rom if anyone is curious. I will be releasing it very soon «Officially» B)

At this point pretty much only the low end, once i have this kernel at a more solid place i will push voltages overall further.

yeap i think i would speak for most when we say...battery life is more of a priority than speed, since this thing is fast and smooth out of the box.
Best kernel out I gave them all a good run but this one out shine them all.

My kernels are more about removing waste than adding stuff (Although i do grab features that are worth while, i am more referring to patches fixing issues noone knew they had, just to inflate git logs)
Things i do add is tweaks to cool overly Yellow panels.
And it's usually possible to benefit both ways, keep Max Freq low and grab all voltage drops and other savings, or raise it up and enjoy the extra power.
Morfic, would much rather see you over on the Sprint version, but glad to see you on the SGS III. Used to use your kernels on the Nexus S and they were the best around. Hopefully once you get everything settled in, we might see you branching to other carriers.

How are ROMs different?

So I'm just wondering what makes all the ROMs different? Specifically all the TW ROMs. I understand that each dev uses different tweaks and stuff but what are they exactly..? What are the different things tweaked that make a ROM different and maybe even better than other ROMs? And if a certain tweak makes the ROM better then why don't all ROMs have the same tweaks and edits?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA
There are barely any major differences in TW ROMs besides preference of kernel

See, that's what I was thinking because I've tried like every TW ROM at least once and to me battery life is almost always the same and so is performance. The only differences I ever feel is depending on the kernel. And I also feel like some ROMs go better with a certain kernel then others do.
But other than the choice of kernel I don't see any difference. So not to discourage anyone or diss anyone or anything like that but why do people even make TW ROMs and claim that their ROM is better if all are actually the same kinda?

To add mods, hacks, themes, features, kernels, etc for people who may not know how to do it all themselves.
"Hey I want all these things packaged together, but every time I try to put them all together I run into all these issues because I don't know anything about any of this other than just using the phone. Oh hey, someone packaged together everything I was looking for in one nice little package."
Most of us here are above average Android users. We know some ****, but we take for granted how many others don't. We've come very far as a community and have forgotten where it all started at.

Aww, I miss the viperRoms
There's a lot of times themed APKs, which sometimes requires modified XMLs and modified PNG files.
There are some extra scripts in system/etc/init.d and lines in build.prop that optimize speed by making things mount faster or making it possible for more applications to be open.
Also, there can be modified framework to add features or change look and feel or speed. Ex: on HTC devices, the framework can be modified to get rid of the paginated app drawer on Sense. Can't think of any specific Samsung examples because I've never made tweaked stock ROMs but mostly do ports.

Pimp My Rom and Task650's AOKP

I know that Pimp My Rom is a Universal tweaking app for most phones, but does it really help considering that Task's ROM is so polished? Are the tweaks really helping out the performance of the phone or the speed of the connections. Anyway to compare before and after ?
I wouldn't touch pimp my rom unless I was running stock tw most certainly not with tasks aokp. Just saying.

Yeah I guess your correct, I always see people commenting about PMR , V6 or lightning tweaks for devices . I guess many of these tweaks would be considered for older devices and less developed ROMs. Just wondering if anyone has anyone done comparisons?

Id add a diff kernel though, the LeanKernel gives me better battery on tasks aokp
If you were to do anything i would suggest a nandroid first, just in case something goes wrong.

I have watched most of the apps you mentioned from beta or before. They are pointless to roms like tasks. The tweaks are alot of different settings that do little to nothing unless your stock or on a less developed rom. If you look deep down in those apps they are just settings to different things that already have a custom setting from task and aokp that any developer can change.
