Going to get a Xperia Play - Some questions. - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I know I'm jumping on the Xperia Play bandwagon a bit late (2 years late), but my phone just broke down and it looks like I can get a Xperia Play for relatively cheap now for around $100 - 200 unlocked. But I have some questions -
1 - I'm planning on using it with the T-Mobile pay-as-you-go $30 100 min - unlim text - unlim 4g, and will it work? I know that with the r800i the phone and text will work, but 4g will not. I've also heard that you can make 4g work with the r800at, but I'm not sure. This is my main question.
2 - Are there any roms for 4.0 + and how well do they work with the with the controller. One main reason I'm getting this old phone is because of the controller, and if the controller doesn't work I'm fine with settling on gingerbread.
3 - How is the touch screen? I know this might seem like a dumb question but I've used the Motorola Triumph from virgin and OH GOD was it a horrible touch screen. It was just all gritty and weird. So what can I expect?
I am sorry if any of my questions are redundant, I did search the boards first. Thank you for your help.

Welcome to the Xperia Play board first of all, I am re-getting the Xperia Play myself after using a Galaxy S2 International myself for six months but I decided to go back to Xperia Play. I'll answer each question one by one and with great detail as I did research long time ago.
1. I am using T-Mobile's $30 5GB 100 minute Unlimited text plan for web activation or Wal-Mart only. I did mines on the web with ease. The difference from the r800i and the r800at is the color shell, software, OS skin and the available radios. I have never got the r800i myself to try the 4G radio before the 1900MHz band was availible this year, if someone else has a r800i then that would be good to have a choice, I honestly do not know about r800i phones. The r800at and r800a both work for T-Mobile's 4G with the 1900MHz band. The difference from the r800at and the r800a model is the bootloaded lock status, the AT is bootloader locked and the A is bootloader unlocked, either phone you get you still need to have SIM unlocked to use the T-Mobile's SIM card and service.
2. The Xperia Play has ICS and JB roms available for download, however installing ICS/JB you will lose some compatibilties in games and a couple of hardware bugs like touchpad not working and camera in some roms. I never used a 4.0+ rom myself as I stayed in GB for gaming and stability.
3. I personally owned and moved from Virgin Mobile AND the Motorola Triumph, I used to have the phone with a low $25 a month and I used customs roms that addresses the hardware issues. The touchscreen in the Xperia Play is better in response and the resolution of 245 ppi and 480x852 is sharp from the Triumph or my Galaxy S2. The height of the screen is the same size to the Triumph, width is less but moving from the Triumph to the Xperia Play is awesome that you do not mind the tiny reduction in width. I never want to go back to candybar phones until the next Xperia Play device comes and I will be a Xperia Playa, this is what you expect once you hold this device in your hands! :good::laugh:

Thanks a lot for the reply! That was very informative.
Which phone do you have, R800a or at? I know it doesn't matter, but I'd rather have the confidence that someone else has gotten it working on the specific phone.
And alright, that sounds good. I'll use the GB roms then. Hopefully my transition from Jellybean down isn't too much of a problem.
Wow, it looks like there is a ton of people like me. I had the Virgin Mobile 25 dollar plan before switching to T-Mobile too, and I actually have the 5gb plan right now.
Thanks a lot for your help again! Hopefully I'll turn into a Xperia playa too.

I had the r800a the first time, that got stolen, then the r8000at the second time which broken. The next Xperia Play phone is going to be a r800at because to me has a better OEM feel and it was made for the US market and if you get the AT&T box in either new or like new condition, you get extra accessories like the dock (if sealed). JellyBean is a cool feel on my Galalxy S2 but I will not miss it as much as I plan to flash Gin2JB v2.3+ rom in the future, my Xperia phone is coming later this month as I still am in the game, lol.
T-Mobile's 5GB 4G is better than Virgin Mobile's 2.5GB 3G data, especially here in the San Francisco Bay Area. Your location varies in signal strength. I promise you, if you like retro games and like to play games on a gamepad, you will never come back to candybar phones. Here is one more important thing you must know, be gentle when you slide the screen up and down, the flex cable is the weakest link and can kill the phone from screen and device and never place paper or fragments in between (that is how my second phone failed.)
You are welcome fishvtt, I am more confident on a r800at like I said because of the parts but also for the fluidity of the feel and performance of the networks and functions, might be placebo but I honesty like the r800at more, either one is fine, each one is the same to support anything from roms, kernels and firmware, it is all GSM compatible and universal when used with custom recovery.

Thanks a lot for the help. And I'll keep that tip in mind. (To take care of the flex cables).
I'm probably gonna be scourging around ebay for the next couple of days and I'll keep it in mind to look for the AT version.
Already getting hyped up, can't wait to relive the nostalgia of having a gameboy

Awesome, well I have a merchant on Amazon who will send me a like-new Xperia Play, in the description it it said it was unlocked and tested with a 30 day money back warranty. I will let you know once it arrives on Monday or Saturday if I am lucky. I got it at 119.95 with FREE shipping: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=me%3DA1KSB2QN4L6U9U&field-keywords=xperia+play. Best to wait and give you the green light when I receive it from said merchant.

Wow that price is amazing.
Well sounds good!

Will do, I am also waiting on some accessories which I will review in the future as I do not see them on YouTube or other sites. Which ever comes I will post it in their respective places/topics.

Just an update. I got the Like New Xperia Play r800at in the mail today. The phone is a r800at with the phone, battery, and standard charger (AC to micro USB). When I inserted the T-Mobile SIM card it is unlocked, however I cannot enter fastboot mode and I have to pay alejandrissimo to get my phone fully unlocked. 360 Mobile Solutions, the seller who sold me the phone for $119.95, sold me a great looking phone, no damage at a quick other than the area around the USB port, it's okay with me; also the screen still has the factory sticker "TXTING & DRIVNG ... IT CAN WAIT" on the phone, which is excellent. I say buy from them, save yourself some money for a nice case and other goodies. :good:

Sweet! Was waiting for the response. That's good to hear. And just to make sure, the 4g HSPA+ does work right?
I'll be ordering from them then. Thanks a lot for the response man. You've been a great help!

[Q] Should I get this phone? Spec/experience

First off, I am sorry for posting another one of these but I really could use some help in this.
I am/have been eligible for and upgrade for a long time. My carrier is Verizon and my current phone is the droid x. I was one of the first people to post in this form that I was getting my hands on this phone when it was released. Well due to a fluke on my upgrade date I was forced to wait. After time passed it seamed in my eyes that this phone wouldn't be much of an upgrade from my current phone so I halted on getting it. I am now itching at getting a new phone but don't want to blow my life savings. I have been really looking at getting the HTC rezound but with that tremendous price tag you can see why I have hesitated. My biggest concern is like I stated above, if Im getting a phone I want to UPGRADE not swap to a new yet similar phone. Smart phones have become laptops, if you don't buy above the curve your going to end with a sluggish piece of crap in the long run.
The things I really like about the rezound is the 1.5GHz dual core processor and the 4G. But now looking around I realized that even though the xperia play is a 1GHz single core it also has a GPU to boost its spec's. The BIGGEST perk to the xperia play for me is the controller. I love to game when nothings going on. I especially love gaming on emulators so I can play those classics like Pokeymon fire red . I recently have pulled out the old unused PSP Go and started Pokeymoning it up.
The main reason my attention has been brought back to the play is because of the LTE rumor. But Im still just hesitant so I thought some stories or opinions could help me decide. One thing I would like to add is I LOVE to mess with my electronics. Anything I can customize or change I will. Things like rooting and rom swapping I do all the time. So S-off or some kind of work around is a necessity. The rezound doesn't have S-off but it will and I know the r800x can now change roms but not kernels.
So here are my questions.
Is there any kind of group working to get S-off for one the 800x? I wasn't able to find anything when I did my digging around.
Would you consider the Xperia Play to be a good phone to UPGRADE to?
What are your experiences with the phone, like how does the screen look, battery life?
Should I wait to hear more on the Xperia Play LTE, or am I just going to hear nothing but rumors for another year like with the regular Xperia play's release date?
Anything will help good or bad, thanks!
You can unlockck the bootloader via a couple of members on xda. Its not free, I got mine unlocked (bootloader) before the service was a paid fee. I love emulators and have many on my phone. Nes, snes Genesis n64 neogeo cps1 cps2. This phone is awesome for emulators. If you love emus this is the phone. Rooting and unlocking is really easy. Trust me this phone may not boast top of the line specs, but I don't care. I love this phone.

Wow that was fast . Thanks man for the input.
If I did get the phone I would get the bootloader unlocked. I was REALLY angry to see that you had to pay to get the bootloader unlocked for the r800x. I then stopped and thought we have received a crap tone of stuff from the devs for free and some of that stuff took months to make. I don't mind coughing up a bit to get an unlocked bootloader. But I would hope the recipient of my money would release something else for free that would make paying for the unlock that much better. But hay to each there own.
Has anyone here gone through the pay process? It almost looked like the process was on hold when I checked into it.
One other thing, does the Xperia play have some sort of HDMI out? I looked really quick and it doesn't look like it but thought I would triple check.
Edit: One more thing. Has anyone taped into the built in PSX emulator? That was one of the coolest things I loved about all the PSP's, once CFW was installed !

The unlocked R800i models (Sim free) can get their boot loader unlocked from the official Sony ericsson bootloader website, and thats free, but the people who do the paid bootloader unlock either have R800x models or another model locked to a specific carrier, Either way they only make you pay because they need to buy credits or something for the program they use to unlock it... I don't know much about that process because I can unlock mine via the se official method.
I forgot one more thing. A couple weeks ago the sources for the R800x were released. This will definately give the devs a lot more to work with and make mods for this phone a lot easier as the information is out. Also don't quote me I think the bootloader unlock price is 25 dollars. Also for me the best emulator is the Tiger Arcade. Its not on the android market but it plays all the neogeo cps1 cps2 games flawlessly. And it even has network play so if you have a friend and they have the same apparently and game then you can play together. Had a friend over and we played Dungeons & Dragons Towers of Doom as a team. Man it was fun.

I advise you to wait for Xperia Play 2
It is gonna be out this year and might beat PSP Vita

unless you can back this up with a source then its complete bollocks there has been no information regarding the an xperia play 2 to the best of my knowledge
infact SE said it sold badly so there less likely too really
The biggest reason I believe there is a bit of truth to this is because when the phone was getting approved by the fda or what ever its called. There was xperia play with 4g lte that was submitted for review. Otherwise im with Sniper in that all we have to go off is a crappy picture of a training form.

This phone now has Onlive app working with gamepad and that opens a whole new source for gaming
I have tried it and it felt good. I would recommend it as the price at which its going now is really worth for what the device is capable of
How does the display look? My friend has the T-Mobile myTouch 4G and I just love his screen. The colors are amazing. It makes my X's screen look like an old black and white TV.

Yeah but those wont work on Verizons CDMA network. A new rumored Xperia Play might be coming out soon that will work and be sold by Verizon.

I'm going to buy the GN. Need some advice?

Just got my paycheck so I'm going to buy the GN today! Very excited. The crashing+broken volume rocker on my Sensation was just too frustrating. Before I buy it, though, if I could ask a couple questions I would appreciate it:
1. Have you personally experienced any problems with the GN that have made you unhappy?
2. Do you think it's worth the $400?
3. I'm on T-Mobile US, which version of the GN do I need to buy? Is the one on the Play Store fine?
Thanks!!
No -I- have had no issues.
Yes I do think so.
The play store one is fine!
Welcome!

The Play Store model is the phone to buy. I wouldn't recommend buying anywhere else if you're in the U.S..
1) I did, it was practically begging to be rooted and have AOKP flashed, so I did.
2) Definitely, look at other comparable phones and this is THE best for the money. Hell, even the SG3 isn't a huge upgrade. Just remember that there is no SD card slot.
3) Yes, I'm also on Tmo and I get 4G/HSPA+ speeds almost everywhere I go.

1. Asking this may get you a lot of anecdotal responses. No device is perfect. I will say, however, that compared to devices released around the same time, the battery life is short.
2. Given the specs, the fact that it's unlocked, and that it comes with a US warranty (from Play store), it's a great deal. However, "is it worth it?" is question only you can answer. There's always something new coming out - Galaxy S III comes out next month.
3. Yes. I got mine before Google started selling it through the Play store but now that it's available there, I wouldn't recommend a different source.
1) While I like this phone, there seems to be issues with some of the screens giving off a purple-ish tint at the lower brightness settings. Also at first I thought the battery life was bad, but after a few charge cycles, it's not bad at all.
2) It's a steal at $400 for a brand new high-end phone with warranty. You can similar phones like SGS2 or iphone 4S for around the same price on craigslist, however they are used and you never know...
3) I'm using my google play phone on t-mobile, and the speeds are pretty awesome.
I have the Sprint version. I'm rooted and installed a custom Rom.
I really like:
1. The amount of developer support.
2. That its pure Android with NFC. I use Google wallet and NFC tags for automation.
3. The large (not perfect but good) screen.
4. The phone feels good in my hands.
Don't like:
1. The short battery life. I use my phone a lot because I like it. Purchased 2 extra stock batteries to compensate.
2. The low volume from the external speaker.
You are getting a good price for a phone that should see several updates. Phones with better hardware have been released and will continue to be released. But this phone will be fine (for me) until the next nexus release. I go through phones. I hope this is helpful.

I wouldn't really call them "issues" just a few niggles. Wi-Fi range is somewhat weaker than other devices I've used. People have had different experiences with their screens. Some people have perfect and others less than perfect. Some say they have banding or black/purple spots and all sorts of issues. The only thing I've noticed on my phone is when I look at the screen from an angle in the dark, it has a slight blue tint. It doesn't affect the performance of the phone or make the screen hard to use for me. It's just something to note.
2. Do you think it's worth the $400?

YES, YES AND YES. There aren't enough yeses to this question. Very few phones of this quality you can get brand new, guaranteed updates from Google, a huge developer community and knowing you own your own phone. My contract ended last month and I've been using prepaid since I got my GNex and I love it. Saved money and pretty much the same service as contract.

Yes, I bought mine form the Play Store and use it on T-Mobile's $30 plan. It's GSM unlocked and pentaband so it will work.

2. Forgot the question. EDIT: Yep.
3. Wish I had done that, but verizon...
Sent via a butterfly wing flap generated program. As its delicate wings flap once, disturbances ripple outward, changing the flow of the eddy currents in the upper atmosphere. This causes momentary pockets of high pressure which act as lenses, deflecting cosmic rays, focusing them to strike the drive platter and flip the desired bit. That's how real programmers do it.
My white one will be here tomorrow, CANT WAIT!
Can´t answer the 3rd one really but...
1. Out of the box I was very unhappy with the phone. But this was 4.0.1. No GPS, no WiFI, horrendous battery life, data drops and what not.
Having updated the phone and later rooted and started fiddling around with different ROMs and especially Kernels I'm growing more and more fond of it.
Now I know how to make everything work and the ROMs and Kernels are getting more mature. Battery life has increased more than 300% for me compared to out of the box.
I´d say it´s a wonderful phone for people who doesn´t like to go stock, but rather want to change around and personalize their device.
2. I went from: No way!! To: Hell yeah!
EDIT: Spelling.. :S
1. Yes, screen quality sucks (development overweights this issue for me)
2. Yes, its worth $400 bucks

Joining the ion community

Hey folks, I'm a prior Inspire and Atrix 2 owner moving soon to the ion. My Atrix 2 caused me no end of troubles and AT&T offered to give me a new phone. Most people think I'm insane for not choosing the One x or the Atrix HD, but I have plenty of reasons to choose the ion. Is there anything I should know or be wary of before I jump in? It'll be about a week before my phone shows up. I already know that the bootloader is locked and the root is difficult and the ICS is supposedly on the way in a few weeks to a month or so, I'm really not super worried about any of that. I also have heard that the capacitive buttons are a pain.
I'm glad to be here!

None of that's true imo. Root is pretty easy, we have ics via hk firmware, we have init.d support and a working cwm. The capacitive buttons are not a pain, just different.
I like the state of things on the ion, not one-click easy, but not expert level either. It's enough to get to learn my phone.
The only thing we're missing at this point is custom dev work, but it's coming.

Well, that makes me feel even better! I suppose that was just the impression I got from briefly picking through the forums here. Either way, I can't wait to get my ion.

all you MAY or MAY NOT worry about are the call volume, speaker, battery life, and bootloader
call volume and speaker are acceptable to me and many, but some people complaint about it
short battery life is due to the LTE network, if you shut data down then it should last much longer. with LTE on, the battery should not last more than 24 hours
you don't need to worry about root or ICS but probably the bootloader
capacitive buttons are definitely not a pain. you should slide up on the icons to activate the functions. it's just a way sony prevents misclick, so blame sony for not pointing that out.
I don't think there's an LTE tower within 60 miles of here (and that's assuming Philly has LTE, if not...200 miles? Lol). As long as LTE doesn't affect battery life when you're not connected to an LTE tower, I ought to be fine. The battery is much bigger than my Atrix 2s and that had LTE as well.
I actually read about the sliding up. If that works as well as it sounds, it might actually be a nice feature.
I am quite happy with mine. ICS works quite well and the device has quite a bit of options built in. Cant really find allot of things I would change on it really. As for battery life I have not had any issue. I tend to stay on my wifi and we dont have LTE here but with heavy use I tend to see 13 hours fairly easy. With normal use I can go 24 hours or so. You should be pleased.
That's pretty impressive! Getting ICS on this device on my own right now is a bit daunting to me, but I'm sure it will come on its own in due time. What sort of "options" are you referring to? I quite enjoy the personalization of these devices, its the primary reason I chose Android in the first place.
Its not really as hard as it seems once you get adb setup properly. Just a guess but I highly doubt we will see a stock ATT ICS until after the new Sony device is released on ATT. With the Ion going to free so quickly it really does seem like it was test unit for the device that's coming as they are both quite similar in hardware.
As for options there are quite a few things you can change compared to some other devices. The themes are nice, ringer profiles, geo tagging has some neat features to view where you or friends have taken a photo, can add backgrounds to the lock screen, etc etc. Nothing really ground breaking but I find it to be a fun device.
One thing to note is battery use in my screen shots was with out using battery saving mode. The only app I have used that may contribute to my up time is Booster. Its a nice little app for keeping programs from staying on and has a time threshold for when it should kill apps. Fairly simple to set up and has a few other nice options.

You WILL see ICS before any new Sony device comes to AT&T.

Welcome to the forums. I'm a former Atrix 2 owner myself. I find the Ion to be a more fluid and capable device. Sony did a fine job with this phone. ICS will be awesome I'm sure. I did run the Atrix 2 on ICS and it improved 10x. Sony did a better job with Gingerbread IMO. It's just an all around better platform in terms of hardware and dev support for the future as well. Read the Sony blogs for details. Great community here too! Almost everybody here is very positive, friendly and helpful. Congratulations on your new phone.

I'm with you Silas, I've been using Samsung phones just got the Ion, it resembles my playstation 3 in the way it's designed. My Ion is still stock, Samsung phones seem impossible to brick. I want to root this Ion, but since I'm new to Sony I'm reading over every thing at least twice.

Thanks folks! Yes, I'm expecting this phone to be a nice improvement overall. Lots of people are still amazed that I didn't go with the One X or the Galaxy S3, but I'm glad with my decision. Gingerbread on this phone does seem like a nice change from others. And I'm banking on that ICS sooner than later, Spectre!
I read some article at the Ion's release time saying that the capacitive buttons were hellish, and I've had exactly one issue with them responding since I got the phone on release date, and that was due to the phone freezing for 5 seconds (which, coincidentally, has also happened exactly once). As for flashing ICS, it's not at all difficult for someone of beginner or novice computer skill levels to figure it out in under an hour. In truth, it seems more daunting a task than the reality. You shouldn't have any problems with it, but if you do, there are more than a few kind members of the Ion board that would be more than happy to help you with even the simplest of questions, provided you ask in a polite manner. Congratulations on your new phone, and welcome to the community.

It's one of those things that after you do it, you kind of look at yourself silly because you thought it was going to be so hard. The main problem people have (I know I did) is with making sure that the drivers are installed. Also make sure you're using the correct tools for the OS you're using.

Convincing my Parents

Okay so pretty much, my parents bought me a HTC Explorer awhile back' about 15 weeks ago. Its a pretty useless phone, specs aren't that great ( I'm a tech savvy guy). I have the money to buy the Xperia Play.... Although their excuse to not let me buy one is, the Sim is locked to my HTC Explorer, they never let me get to the part that I want to use it as a Wi-Fi only phone (until my plan on the htc runs out), like a mini-tablet to use when I'm in the shops etc.
Anyone have other points I could bring them up on besides specs etc
:crying:
If you're tech savvy, then you know specs aren't a selling point for this phone.
Sent from my R800x using xda premium
But then again... if he's tech savvy, he'd also be very aware that Xperia Play's specs haven't particularly been holding it back as much as one would think... and coming from an HTC Explorer, he'd be taking a massive step up.
If you're willing to present a case where you'd use something like textfree for phone calls/texting, you could actually drastically decrease your phone bill at the sacrifice of being a wifi-only communicator. You'd be restricted to communicating only via WiFi, but your parents would go gaga the moment you noted how much money would be saved.

Yes, but I have no problem unlocking the boot loader, or over clocking. This phone also seems to be getting support from various game companies like GameLoft. And I hate touch screen controls!
If you intend to use it as VOIP only and don't need active data plan, then the R800x is a great choice. It's only going for $80 refurb on ebay. You can install the NXT Lite rom which is quite fast, but really the R800x use stock android which is also fast. It can unlock the bootloader from Sony website as well, inlike my R800at which can't.
Tell them you want to use it as a gaming device, show them pictures of it running some games. Then when your contract or whatever is up activate it.

[Q] I'm about to upgrade from...

Morotola Milestone 2... I'm looking to buy Samsung Captative Glide i927, the sub forum is a lot more active and there are plenty of diferent roms to choose from.
Is it a worthy upgrade from a MM2?
Thank you.
Depending on your radio requirements, you should consider the Relay 4G. Its only downside over the Glide is its 4G isn't compatible with AT&T (but it's fully quad-band EDGE/UMTS), and the community just took off like a rocket this month.
I'll ride my Glide until it can't run the newest Android comfortably anymore, but if I was buying now, without a doubt in my mind, I'd get an unlocked Relay.

I'm from Argentina, I will look up what bands the carrier use here. Thank you, Relay 4G seems a strong candidate in my book, too bad I can't get it here via normal means, that is something I have to deal with down here, the choices are really non existant, that is why I'm also looking for someone or some business to get me one from USA.
Can I ask you some questions about your Glide? Because this one I can get it in Argentina, for about 450-475 USD, brand new in box, unlocked.
Edit1: the Relay 4G is a beast of a phone (dualcorewise), but dang it! the OLED is a pentile matrix
Still my account is not activated, I have to wait 5 min even to edit.
Edit2: neverming, I've just read the forum help.

If your carrier doesn't even offer HSPA+ specifically (I don't know the situation in your country), I wouldn't even bother. Both Glide and Relay will operate 3G in all four bands used in the US, and neither are LTE capable. If one won't work, neither will the other.
As for procurement: you may find someone on eBay US that will ship internationally. They may request some payment method other than Paypal (due to Paypal/eBay's reputation of siding with the buyer even when said buyer is very obviously and blatantly in the wrong). It's up to you whether the hassle (+exchange rate) is worth it.

Glide is also pentile, and a very obvious pentile at that (red has a plainly visible pattern). Looking at the specs, it's very likely the Relay and Glide have the exact same screen.

It's been aggravatingly slow since forever, and has cooled a bit but she's not dead yet. Relay is definitely more active right now. The fact that the Glide's SoC is rather exotic (the Tegra 2 specifically is freakin' WEIRD) and a pain to develop for hasn't helped any. That said, what we have right now is still pretty recent and is above and beyond DD quality (where the Relay ROMs have just gotten off the ground and still have some glaring issues).
---------- Post added at 01:40 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:33 AM ----------
Speaking of LTE... if that's what you need, look at the Stratosphere II. Yes, it's VZW which is CDMA, but it's an international device meaning it also has a GSM radio, and supports all common LTE bands instead of just whatever VZW uses.
That said, you'd be taking a serious gamble in the ROM dev department -- as of this moment we know NOTHING about the bootloader (it's not even rooted yet) leave alone what nasty surprises there could be waiting for us once we can flash it. And VZW has been by far the worst about bootloaders.
well...

I think they do not even do HSPA+, but even so, I'm not in need of H+ or LTE/4G speeds, my plan only has 512mb/month and I'm barely using half of it, I do not travel a lot, I do comute a lot, and the rest of the time I have WiFi access (I work at IT), so there is that. I'm happy with the 4mb/1mb I get with the 3G, I mostly need it to check mails, be online, Skype, access some servers via RDP and reddit.

Seeing that the Motorola Photon Q LTE has the SIM card soldered, I will try to see about the MM4. But yeah, I have to see if the hassle, and the waiting times are worth it to me, I had the MM2 for 13 months now, before that I have the Samsung Galaxy Spica (really really low end phone) but made me fell in love with Android.

Crap, in the MM2 I dont even see the pixels (it is a 3.7" screen with 852*480). I tried to google some screen reviews of the Glide but found nothing, that bad is it? I wish I could see it before buying it...

As long there are some cool CM ROMs I'm up for it. The fact is that with my MM2 there are only 4, CM7.1 is totally dead, there is MS2GINGER (which I rather not) and CM10/10.1 which are painfully slow on my device. That is why I recon it is time to change, also I bought it used, so it was an old model when I bought it. I'm poor, and the prices are insane.

I think I will keep researching and trying to cool off myself, I was about to pull the trigger on the Glide, but the pentile and 4row keyboard got me thinking, I has stuff that I like/want (1gb RAM, dual core, slide Keyboard) and stuff that I dont, pentile matrix and 4row keyboard. (mm2 also has 4 row keyboard, but I want an upgrade on everything if I'm putting a lotta money on it).
Would you recommend the Glide if the year were 2011/2?
Bottom line, I cant decide yet it seems. Thank you.
edit1: I'm about to pull the trigger on the Glide (it is theRogers version, so that makes it an i927R, that $2900[pesos] are about 467 USD official price or about 350usd black market us dollar price [black market dollar is abut 67% more than official one, the country is in the ****, dont be mistaken, is more than a half month salary of mine.), I've contacted the seller, and awaiting his/her reply.
Besides the pentile screen, on how bad could it be, how flat are the keys? are they totally flat? the action is clicky, springy or rubbery?
Thx again.

Development on the GLide has slowed to a crawl. No disrespect to the developers they are the best but most have now moved away from the Glide which is now almost a 2 year old phone. I love my Glide but I am envious of all the new Phones coming out with larger displays, LTE and now even IR. Wish I could control my TV with my Glide without need for any other attachment or computer. Our GLide is still one of the best Hardware Keyboard devices but the bad battery drain that makes me have to add an oversize battery making it look like a phone from 5 years ago. We will never get an official JB from our carriers as they have dropped support for our phone already. As for JB from our developers it is promising but unfortunately Bluetooth headset profile is not working or very flaking that makes it not a viable solution especially for those of us that live in areas where it is ilegal to hold your handset and drive.
My recommendation is get the GLide if it is very cheap as it is still a decent phone, but if you can shell out a little more cash get something newer with more support from it's carrier and more people on it in the XDA community.
