[Q] How to turn off OTA notification? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I'm running 4.1.1 with the 4.2 camera and can't successfully upgrade to 4.2 without a bunch of hassle so I'd like to just turn off the "system update available" notification and the annoying popup that's associated with it. I'm rooted and have all the typical apps (Ti backup, root browser, busybox, voodoo, etc.).
I've searched all over and can't find how to get these notifications to go away. Deleting the OTA files works for a short time but it's not a long term solution. Thanks.

Either push this to system/app and change permissions to rw/r/r or push to system/app and immediately reboot into recovery and choose to fix permissions

in Titanium back-up you can find the system update and freeze it so it won't try to update anymore

Well, I put it in the app folder and changed the permissions and then rebooted. First thing that popped up on the screen once it had rebooted was the OTA notification. Am I supposed to be able to open this app to set it up or something? I can't find it in the app tray and it appears so far it's done nothing to help the situation. Thanks.

I've looked everywhere that I can think of, or but can find what I'm looking for, and so here goes.
I was wondering if there is an apk available for the ICS Peoe app?

Don't install it, use root explorer or similar, move it to /system, change permissions and then move to apps.

OK thanks, what do permissions need to be set to? Will I be able to remove the stock Sony Contacts app as well? Roland

Using root explorer, it's x x, x, x from top down. Use your file manager to check permissions on another app and use the same.

And then?
What do I do after setting permissions & moving to /system/app? I can't find any way to open it, and it still won't install ("Parsing Error")
Thanks!
You reboot your phone and it should replace the stock app.
I followed the instructions.
1. Copy Contact.apk inside system/app
2. Changed permission to rw-r-r which is same for other apps
3. Rebooted, I see get my xperia stock contacts.
I am sure I missed something, when I try to install from system/app it does not install.

Great, but some how I can't find the default contact.apk to replace
Perhaps my mistake, using Xperia Pureness rom, possibly its moved somewhere else.
Look in the themes and apps section, I've uploaded the apps folder for situations like this.
Sent from my Phone.
Okay I found out that this rom is using PhoneBook.apk for contacts.
I tried removing PhoneBook.apk and keeping just Contacts.apk reboot
Renamed Contacts to PhoneBook reboot
But in vain.
Permissions are same.
Now restored PhoneBook.apk until I find a solution to get Contacts.apk to run.

[Q] Stock Launcher on CNA Rom.

Is there a way to get the stock Jellybean launcher on Codenameandroid ROM. I find the stock launcher to still be the smoothest, and i dont really feel like i need any additional Launcher features.
grab Launcher2.apk from /system/app from a stock rom. push it to your device. mount /system readwrite, copy Launcher2.apk to /system/app. reboot, done.

[Q] How do I disable OTA notifications?

I am running Note Cards 1.1 and I get an OTA update notification every few minutes and it is driving me nuts! Does anybody know how to disable update notifications on the Galaxy Note II?
Anybody?
Why does a custom ROM not remove this? Just goes to show that a little bit of knowledge about developing can be dangerous and a stock ROM with build.prop tweaks shouldn't even be posted...
That said, delete /system/etc/security/otacerts.zip and reboot.

On the gs3 we just ran the update as it wouldnt go through, then reboot the phone as it would take you to recovery. after that it wouldnt prompt you any more.

Its simple root your device and you are done.you will not get ota notification as ota is disabled when device is rooted.
And even this doesn't works then root device, download app called link2sd or Rom toolbox and freeze software update app.it will work for sure.

I feel like an idiot but reading/googling hasn't helped me figure out how to actually find this folder to delete that file. Is this something you find on the phone itself or with the rom zip pre-flash. My file manager doesn't have any folders named system, etc, or security

First off you need a file manager that allows root access, make sure you allow those folders to be accessed "in the settings menu of that manager." It is a file from your device if you are getting the notification.

I just received the update and nothing has happened. I no longer getting update notification

Update for a sure way without deleting files rooted device.
use a folder explorer like Root Explorer:
[QRCODE]https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.speedsoftware.rootexplorer&hl=en[/QRCODE]
Navigate to:
/system/app: change fwupgrade.apk to fwupgrade.old and keychain.pak to keychain.old
/system/etc/security: change otacerts.zip to otacerts.old
Now reboot to recovery mode and wipe cache. Reboot system to GUI. If update appears, accept install. Countdown will appear but nothing will be installed.
The update notification will no longer appear. :good:

Your phone has to be rooted and you need to have any root explorer installed.
1. I'd suggest to back up SystemUI.apk and SystemUI.odex from the folder /system/app and to think about a recovery plan if something goes wrong.
2. Copy my SystemUI.apk into the folder /system and change its permissions to rw-r--r-- (644).
3. Delete SystemUI.odex from /system/app and move SystemUI.apk file from the folder /system to the folder /system/app with a replacement of the existing file.
4. After a successful replacement you will probably get some errors, all you need is to restart the device.
PS if you don't know or understand anything from the above firstly read about it then act or otherwise you can damage your smartphone.
I'm not responsible if anything goes wrong.
That all makes sense, only thing I don't know how to do is change permissions for the apk. How do I do that?
EDIT: using both es explorer or androzip i'm unable to move the file to the system folder. I have no idea how to get it there. Should I try a different file explorer?

If you are deodexed rty mod from here
Flash it with TWRP
Not deodexed, no idea how to.
I'm fully rooted, bootloader unlocked, cwm recovery and also safestrapped.
I managed to get it into the system folder but not into the app folder. Lucky I backed up in cwm, phone kinda needs a working system ui doesn't it!

To change the permissions you need to go to the file properties. After that just cut-paste it into the app folder. Es file explorer always works for me . However it had a strange behaviour when I tried to use 'copy to' or 'move to', so just cut-paste.
Finally got this going thanks to your patience! I had to leave the permissions to rwe and only copy/paste would work for some reason. Had to reset my wallpaper and turn data back on after reboot.
Otherwise all good, thanks!

What are the permissions to be set at? I pushed this and the stock file manager to system apps, fixed permissions via recovery, but neither work. When I use Root Explorer to check the apks they show different permissions from all the other system apps. MusicPlayer and SecNoteMyFiles show rwxrwxr-x while the other apks show rw-r-r-- I guess I need to manually change them?
EDIT - Actually what happens is they don't show in the app drawer, so I tried to install them from the system app folder, but I keep getting an error "Application not installed".

No go for me. They just don't want to work. I don't know why. I was on the stock ROM via ODIN. Everything worked. I pulled five apks from the system app folder. Three of them work, but the MusicPlayer and FileManager don't. I tried them both ways. I left the permissions as is, rebooted, and nothing. I did what you said, and still nothing. Got me. First I want to thank you, and say sorry for making you help me so much, as I'm now realizing it would have worked if I just used your version from the beginning. I've been trying to get the one I pulled from my stock ROM when I was running it. It seems my APK is not the right one. Yours worked the very first time. It's also bigger than mine by about a MB. Where did you pull it from? I pulled mine directly from the system/app folder.
Also since mine didn't work for this, or my File Manager APK, would it be possible for you to share that too? Or tell me where to get it? Thanks again.
