It seems the mighty iOS developer Saurik has been spending some of his time with Android recently.
(Yes! you read it correctly, we're talking about Saurik the Lord of Jailbreak!)
He admittedly bought Google Glass and was able to root it (he still used the term jailbreak though )

Not a fan of iOS tbh. But still, if he's here and whip up some custom tweaks and not making themes all the time, them yea, would be gr8.

Thank you kindly for the compliments, but I must point out that I have been doing Android things for a while: I was involved in the original boot.img hacks (of the G1), I provided instructions for installing Debian together with Android soon thereafter (which for a long time was the canonical instructions for doing such), and more recently I implemented mempodroid (the exploit tool used by many people for Android 4.0-4.0.3). Substrate's Android port is itself something I've been working on now for years ;P.

[Q] Can IOS 4 be ported to the EVO?

Not that I'm a fan of it but i was wondering since android can run on the iphone is it possible to put IOS on the EVO.
No IOS is not open source
Yeah, this isn't a netbook you're talking about. You can't just put an Apple OS on it all willy-nilly.
Seriously, though, I'd bet the trouble would be nigh-insurmountable based on hardware differences. They're using their own CPU in the iPhone, for one, and beyond that I bet they're working pretty strongly to keep iOS from ever being ported like OS X is.
How dare you!!!!! Off with his head!!!

why would you wanna?
lol this is the second related thread to apple i've seen in the last 24 hours...lol
This thread made me sick to my tummy just a little bit!

the base for iOS is open(ish) source. But to my knowledge no one has tried to take Darwin down to the mobile level other than apple with iOS. In theory it should be able to be done, but that would be the only way to get a port. Hope your up for a challenge.

c'mon guys - outside of the poor taste it leaves in our mouths, the question is legit.
OP-It's highly doubtful that true iOS4 will ever be ported to android - too many challenges. The closest you might get is for a dev to build a theme that makes android look and act like iOS4 on the surface, but it would still be android.
oh yeah - and no iphone app store. ever.
Guys it was just a question so relax and stop the flaming. It probably can be done but there's too much work involved and it would also be illegal. Besides even if you were able to do it the App Store wouldn't allow your phone access so the only way to install apps would be through Installous (cracked apps) which is also illegal.
Android >>>>> apple
Android will be ported because it can and it has high enough demand..
IOS isn't ported because well... No demand <.<

Plain and simple. It won't. Hardware is to different and it closed source. But if you were looking for ios'ish look for the evo check out miui. People argue both ways saying it is and isn't close to ios but from what I see (since I'm a daily user) its pretty damn close. Have fun

xda-developers is a community. A great community at that. People's hard work and collaboration produce great things.
Instead of crying and instructing others to "get to work", Why don't you help out and contribute to this community and offer some value so others can prosper from it too?

Beggars can't be choosers. Either root it yourself or STFU! Besides, Gingerbread will be out in a month or 2. It will be a remake of Android where Froyo is just an update of Eclair.

I'm not really sure what you mean: I think most of the current ROM's are based on FroYo.
I think he means root froyo on a phone that wasn't previously rooted before you applied froyo. I assume he's one of those that just couldn't wait a couple hours for the rooted version of froyo, and applied the OTA update thinking it would only be a few days until Froyo was rooted, despite numerous warnings to not apply the unrooted version.
Wow sorry guys I was just being silly ..... now that I'm reading my own post. but any*hoo,, I salute all the developers. I got and still get help from the forum so don't take offense. besides I'm on fresh"s ROM now that I down graded thanks to this forum as always !!

[Q] MIUI....anyone run this through a microscope?

I started hearing about the ROM over on some Dell Streak blogs and had a thought I was worried about...but wonder if I am just being paranoid.
Where is MIUI from? Is this in some actual consumer phone that is on a major network? Has anyone actually met these people that wrote this?
I see on their website that they are working with some of the devs here and supposedly have submitted the FM app to Cyanogen:
http://www.miui.com/thread-1687-1-1.html (Not much more than that page unless you can read Chinese which I cannot.)
I guess my paranoia sets in when I see things come out like this fully baked and being adopted blindly by the masses. We saw games just last year that were doing random calls and that was from a site people trusted.
Sorry if this seems tinfoil hatty, but really what better way to sink a trojan/backdoor into a ton of phones than to release a super cool looking bit of software that no-one is really going to dig through and vette? So my question is do people here really trust this software? Have the Dev's torn it apart enough to feel they know everything in it?
It's an AOSP-based ROM developed by some Chinese folks to make their phones into KIRF iPhones.
I at one point thought the same thing about it. I thought about where it came from, and all the jazz with the same paranoid mindset. Then I thought about it more, and realized I wouldn't be doing anything on my phone that would be of any interest to anyone. I'm sure its probably legit. There are other poeple that have had to go through and port it to English and more fun stuff. I would assume they have taken a decent look at it.
Just like that live wallpaper with the malware in it, I'm sure someone will find a rouge code. Im sure it will be viral too as apple fanboys would jump all over it discrediting Android. But to be on the safe side, I'd only use ROMs from here and other trusted dev forums, from devs with a good rep. At least you'll know its honest work.
Yes, you're being a bit "tinfoil hatty." Google MIUI dev and you'll see the english forum from xda members that are dedicated to this rom's development. I'm sure that they have broken down most of the rom and you can get more information there.

I how you' re trying (unsuccessfully) to be funny. Here's a newsflash, there are android geeks, honest ones even, all over the world!!
Really, if the Chinese were trying to gather information via some device that millions upon millions of Americans would use (and no, that would not be the MIUI on Android), they would probably tap the ipod, iphone, and ipad - all of which are made in China.

Fake iphone to android

Hey guys i need help
My cousin bought fake iphone 4 (MC61OLL) with strange software (KINGSTAR35_68B_HW)
What i wana know is can i put android on it?
thanks for help
Easy. Reverse engineer the phone's OS and rewrite it for linux, write a kernel, then compile. You may need to do some hardware modifying to be able to load the android...
Or an easier way is to buy a real android device. Seriously.
he wanted a cheap phone for his son...
oke thank you
can i find somewhere steps or?
I think that the steps should be very difficult...you can jailbreak it if you want but i dont think that you can change the iOS into Android 2.3.x
its not the iOS I think that it is some kind of java software based on android
just buy a new iphone
wow take the guy down a notch realy. sorry but hounding the guy cause he asked a question isn't very nice I understand everyone isn't nice. but really. here's what you need to do send me a pm with the specs of the phone maybe if it is running a version of android you can install a diff luancher. unless you have an idea don't just kick the guy when he is down. please grow up.sorry if this offends anyone but lets be civil. I can do some research for you I am not a developer nor do I plane on being one. just remember the g tablet viewsonic put out it was **** but now. that was my first android device. I. have a few of them and know a few developers. just pm me thanks
mmmm I think tht if is not iOS it wuold possible to delete it and re-install another one...mmmm how??? XD
So it appears that you have the knock-off HiPhone or SciPhone. Which seems not run Android, but a form of Java. This would generally mean you are stuck with that system unless you could port android which would depend on the specs. So what are the Technical Details of this device??
In my opinion this entire process might be a long and fruitless mission but that is only my opinion Its your choice entirely!!
Porting android is not easy
If you're a programmer and are willing to put in 100's of hours finding and compiling the right drivers, then maybe, but its not worth it to invest all this hours in some Chinese crap, there are enough cheap android devices.
Itz very difficult dude.100 hours I think that it takes more more more hours if you are a good programmer.anyway yu could ask on web to someone to do this kind of job paying money...You think??
no you cant
Fake Iphone
Hi,
I have a fake Iphone, and before you tell me to get a new phone, I already have an android. I just want a challenge as an aspiring developer.
The specs are:
Capacity: 32G
Version: F6A_CLD_IV_SA1G256_10A_MSFWR_200W_V3-2_V0
It is a Chinese phone running some type of JAVA software.
I am willing to put in time to find and/or create the right drivers and roms, but I would need help in this project. If anyone can assist me with information, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

One of my clients gave me one of these, it's pretty clever, looks a lot like iOS 8.0.2. But is is most likely KitKat, and it's running a Go Launcher theme that it pretty convincing. I installed ES Explorer, it's definitely not iOS, with a clearly Android FS. Whoever made this, it was a lot of work - They were able to make a totally authentic iPhone 6, but one thing prevents any version of iOS- iboot. All I can say is HAHAHA!
Hell, I don't care about activating it, it's probably impossible, but I'd like to find the drivers for it so I can load it up with my Android goodies. I guess I'll just use Es Explorer to connect to my SMB and grab what I need.
My ZTE phone has the drivers accessible if powered down. Yes, when I power down, it comes up as MT65xx preloader. It came up with these, but I still can't read the mounted drives:

The only downside is that canonical has said that they're looking to work with OEM's on this project, and don't have any immediate plans to release to the public.
I'm really curious what hardware they're using to make this magic happen. They show a phone docked, but how is it connected via mouse/keyboard/monitor? MHL with bluetooth peripherals? USB OTG and MHL combo on the back of the dock? I've been waiting for something like this, lucky me that ubuntu is the one that's making it happen.
would be sweet unless they some how integrate unity
"That's absolutely amazing"
Like that they planning on keep all supported phones updated to the newest Ubuntu release.
I know it's not quite the same, but there is a way already to have ubuntu on our phones.

A similar dual os via docking comes with motorola phones. Many developers have already improved on the motorola mini-buntu.
This may take it to an even better level

correct, but the current incarnations are actual installations, and they don't Sync immediately live between the two OS
the ones we got running right now are either virtualized version of Ubuntu in our phone, or they actually replace Android, and it requires much tweaking for it to do what currently is cooking at Ubuntu Dev
Does anyone have a leak of that beta development of Ubuntu for Android?
i want to try to make it work on our phones
Also how does one even sign up as a Dev on Ubuntu to get access to the repositories for Ubuntu Android?
This is probably not going to be easily backported to other devices. Like Android itself, it needs native drivers that homebrewers aren't really going to be able to code, so don't expect to see this running on our phones, at least not well enough to be more than a novelty.
It's cool tech, though, and especially on the new generation of phones with Krait or Core A15 this is going to be a real potential desktop replacement for a lot of people who only do light computing. I think this is ultimately where computing is going to go for most people, although it might be a few years before the technology is quite good enough.
