My first post was kinda in response to sweeping statements and value judgements made by you about the work of AOSP/AOKP Devs, but anyway...
I've tried pretty much all the AOSP/AOKP ROMs that are currently published on XDA, and the following presented absolutely no issues for me whatsoever in my usage of them:
- SentinelROM
- LiquidSmooth
- RootBox (unofficial)
- Slim Bean
I certainly didn't have any issues with WiFi but, I have to say, I don't give a flying $%#* what my screen-off charging animation looks like, so I never paid attention to it (and, therefore, can't comment on it).

Cheers :good::good:
I find almost everything satisfiable with aosp such as Slimbean or CM such as Sentinel except for the battery performances. I get almost half the battery life compared to stock based and that about it. However, everything you've mentioned in OP is irrelevant as most of them have been fixed and a few such as battery logo when charging is not important.

Seeing as you're basically copy and pasting your posts from the Rootbox thread into this one, I'll do the ssme:
He's hardly trolling. Do you even know the meaning of the word? It doesn't mean disagreeing.
Why would you expect a rom which has nighties being released to be perfectly stable with every single feature working? Nightly is pretty much synonymous for beta when it comes to ROMs imo.
Also, you have to realise that not everyone's needs are similar to yours. I personally never used multiwindow and rarely even use the S-pen, even though it technically works just as well on ROMs like this (and for my purpose of note taking it actually works better seeing as I can now use the S-pen button as an eraser rather than taking a screenshot)
Also the fact that this is on 4.2.2 and I can use lockscreen widgets is a huge plus over stock for me, dashclock is immensely useful.
Although some parts of it are out of context (see the rootbox thread to read it in context) my points still stand.

In 4.2.2 ROMs we have new features and we lost a few ones. A choice must be done between custom stock based ROMs and AOSP based ROMs.
I often see some claims because S-Pen doesn't work, MultiWindow, AirView... You have to understand what you flash!
Since I tried AOSP I never came back to Stock based ROMs. Atm I have Rootbox rom by Bajee and everything is working fine with one nightly per week.
Concerning charging animation bug, I remember that flashing a custom kernel solved this issue (Redpill kernel I think but the battery life is not very good except of Hyperdroid).
Of course we have bugs on AOSP Roms but don't forget that Samsung FWs also have big issues! SDS & Exynos exploit have been patched a long time after the discovery, Aroma Installer crashes on some Custom ROMs,...
Samsung official products aren't always good too. Just have a look at Samsung Kies which generates a lot of damages!

Hi everybody. Seeing the presence of many CM/AOSP users here, may I venture to ask for your submissions in the Grand ROM Survey for N7100 in the neighboring thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2232765
I'm asking so that we can have an objective, quantitative measure of the "goodness" of a ROM. 59 ROMs are represented (based on the INDEX thread), with 170 selectable versions.
Please give it a try. Even the OP here can rate his favorite ROM(s).

I am getting a bit tired of the browser in the stock 2.2, my batterylife is almost non-existing, and I always have less than 10 mb space left of internal memory.
If I had the money, and galaxy nexus wasn't so ugly I would have changed my phone a long time ago.
So instead I am trying to figure out which Rom is the best for my carrier-free Desire.
I like HTC-sense, (yeah I know it's a battery hog), I won't give up essentials like GPS and camera, and if it could have the possibility of http proxy over WiFi, then I could use the WiFi at my school.
Of cause it has to run smoothly, so newer android versions might not be suitable.
Any suggestions to what might fit my needs?
[English is not my strong suit, so bare with me]
Have u rooted your phone and get S-off'd? If yes then follow me.
If u want to try out a Sense 3.0 ROM, choose Aurora v6.0. Its super fast and much more battery efficient with the included kernel.
If u want sense 3.5 ROM, try Runnymede AIO v6.5. Its also nice and fast. Also the rcmix tweaks do some nice treaks.
If u want something exceptional (with a sense experience and a bit of ICS taste), try Cool Ice Cream Sense. Its also super fast and a great ROM for day to day use.
These are all sense ROMs. If u prefer AOSP one's, the scenario will change drastically.
*sigh* Best brain for human?
I personally think that RSK has the best desire ROM. Its based on runnymede, but when I used runny mede I found it to be quite laggy. Granted I havent tried many ROMs but most people on the RSK thread who claim to have done so pretty much swear by this ROM.
Check it out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1431908
---------- Post added at 07:01 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:21 PM ----------
plus, if you are having issues with your browser, you can just download another one. I personally love dolphin HD
Cool Ice is the fastest sense rom for the desire. And IMHO the best one.

This one qualifies too. Though it is in domain of abstract thinking for most of the community here. To comprehend that one has to observe that the best and the smoothest is the one they are using at the time of posting, and none other.

I would agree with this list also. Not sure about Aurora V6 - was not as good as cools version or 007 but that's my opinion. For a 2.1+3.0 I would try Alex-V's ROM. Only trial and error will you know what is right for you.

Erklat and others who just hate threads like this and yet come to contribute to them in a non-helpful manner:
Why don't you just ignore these threads if you hate them so much????
Personally, if I just started with flashing on my Desire, I would LOVE to see what users who have tried most of the roms, think which rom is the best.
I am one of the long time "flashers" and it took a loooong time to come to a rom that feels just great.
Why would everybody have to go through all this?
My thoughts:
1) AOSP roms IMHO plain suck. You will NEVER be able to customize them the way HTC does it with sense, so why even bother? The ones who still want to bother will not ask such questions here. Yes they could be a bit faster but that's because these roms have nothing. You have to install everything and then your phone looks just like windows mobile 6. Every single thing looks and feels different...
2) Sense 3.x roms have weak multitasking and become laggy when you actually use the phone. Yes, at first one thinks they are fast, because sliding home screens and other rosy stuff seems fast. But then you try to sync with dropbox or something and someone calls you and it takes 10 seconds or more to answer the phone etc etc....
3) For our Desire Sense 1.9 roms are currently the best. But even with those, you have to choose which ones are the fastest/most stable.
After a looong time of trying various roms, my opinion is that Cool Ice is the cream of the Desire roms (the other two roms in my signature are a very close second place) It's VERY fast, it's as stable as it gets and it feels responsive even after 2 weeks of installing apps and power use.
Of course this it my personal opinion, but it's a valuable one. I get a LOT of private messages where people are thanking me for advice and are very happy.
So what exactly IS your problem with those kind of threads??? And why on earth do you keep posting in them???
On my Desire i've loaded ICS BCM 2.0U1
It works great ans smoothly
I've flitted between cyanogenmod 7, oxygen and playing with ics beta (0.4.1.5). Best bet is to try them and see which suits.
I was using oxygen because it doesn't have things I don't need. Trying ics beta because I like it, when it doesn't keep rebooting, which it hasn't for a day

I don't agree.
One thing is if you want to experiment and toy with all the roms. The other thing is if you want to actually use your phone and need stability and responsiveness that is at least as good as the stock rom, which you came from.
If you want the latter, there are only a few roms available that suit the criteria (responsiveness + stability). And this is not a "personal" opinion, it's an objective one. I try to point such roms out.
If you think some other rom is better, do tell. I will nandroid my current rom and give it a spin (and probably go back to my current one in mere 30 minutes of "testing").

If you like to experiment and live with a possibly buggy rom most of the time, then yes.
If you just do not want to waste time experimenting, then no.
And the poster of this question falls definitely into the latter category. So I try to help them.

ICE CREAM SANDWICH!!
Before you consider it though, READ this. Read it closely.
The goal of this thread isn't to be dramatic at all. There was no big issue...this topic didn't really have to be posted.
But the idea is to purely be helpful. Not everybody who surfs these forums knows everything that's going on and its nice to have all the information in one place. I hope this information helps you determine whether or not the ICS leak is good for you.
There are common issues among all ICS-leak based ROMs. I hope this helps a lot of you since I've seen the same questions in a lot of ROM threads, over and over.
Mods if you can sticky, +1!
#0: A LITTLE BACKGROUND
================================================
When I say "ICS-leak based ROMs", I am saying that the current state of ICS roms on the T989 is that they are based on the ICS leak for our AT&T cousin, the Skyrocket. Thus there are still issues.
That being said...flash Skyrocket roms at your own risk.
Common issues in ALL leak-based roms:
(* Does not neccesarily apply to Raver's AOSP build, it is FUNDAMENTALLY different so read his topic and follow his posts *)
Call echo for about 50-75% of us. A temporary solution is to play around with your case(if you have one on your phone) OR turn off Noise Reduction while in a call
There is no Wi-Fi calling
Shutdown doesn't work for some people. THIS IS WHY YOU MUST SUPERWIPE!! (See #3)
Some video streaming problems
Some video recording problems (depends on ROM)
Some AT&T specific modifications that can give you problems. I.E. there is no 2G/4G toggle switch
Point is: THEY'RE NOT PERFECT YET
#1!
================================================
BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING
If you don't know what ClockworkMod is and how to access the Recovery menu,
STOP here. Look around, read some tutorials, and immerse yourself in some basic Android knowledge.
This can mean the difference between frying a $250+ device and running a cool ROM on it. Do what you do wisely.
Keep your battery charged and make backups.
#2!
================================================
MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP
This is the same as using the Backup and Restore menu in CWM. You have been warned. The devs aren't responsible for lost data.
#3!
================================================
BEFORE FLASHING ICS ROMS
Super super important:
Run this script via CWM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1477955
THIS WILL WIPE YOUR PHONE...and align the partitions properly for ICS
Run it again. Do it twice to be safe!
Then flash your ROM.
#4!
================================================
PATCH YOUR ACCELEROMETER
Without this, your phone will not AutoRotate, games and many media apps will give you headaches, and your CAMERA WILL BE BROKEN.
Most of the ROMs here should have this patch built in. If you're a dev and haven't added it in yet, please do so !!
See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1592170

================================================
WHEN LOOKING AT THE DEVELPMENT TOPIC
Use the topic search function before you post a question.
I'm not a topic police officer. I don't really care what people post in my own topics as long as its not bickering. But asking questions when they've already been asked does take up space and makes the topic harder to sift through so please be courteous to the devs Do yourself and all of us a favor. Look through it first! This is a cycle...if people look through the topics before posting, their question will be most likely answered and then they will not need to post. The topic gets less cluttered and the next person who has a question has less pages to look through
And different OP's have different requests for their topics. Please be courteous.
THIS IS NOT A COMPETITION
I can stand with Raver in saying this. As a matter of fact, I plan on collaborating with him.
The point is:
XDA isn't about competition. It's about innovation. So please don't say X ROM is better than Y ROM, everyone has their own taste.
TO REPORT BUGS
Follow the instructions in the ROM dev's OP.
I'm actually going to make a Mantis bug tracker for our ICS ROMs. Devs and themers, let me know if you're interested via PM.
GOING BACK TO GINGERBREAD?
Although the ICS roms are fairly stable at this point, some of you may wish to go back to Gingerbread for whatever reason. Before flashing back to GB: REPEAT STEP 3 ABOVE, DO THE SUPERWIPE!
must read if your new to ics
This should be sticky or like placed in the top 5 spots or something where people are sure to read it.
Oh ya if you missed it
DARKSIDE WIPE MULTIPLE TIMES!!!
Just asked a mod to sticky it

Here's my take on this. What's the first thing someone is going to be looking for when going to their phones section on xda? "Development" right? Now thnknof how many people, more specifically those with the xda app, go to "stickies" for information first?. My guess is not the majority. This thread is also clearly labeled as to what it is and is formatted so anyone can relate and understand. Therefore while I see that you think its the same I vouch it stays. Until we get our own version of ics we and the more bugs are fixed or found, this sticky would prove useful. It also keeps random questions or repeat questions out of from threads.

I think it's great right here. Especially for those who are new, don't know how to search, are mentally slow on finding stuff. It's right here in your face when you walk into the Dev section. Don't close this. Just because some people know enough, doesn't mean others do. I know, but there's still a lot of people who don't.

The post was appreciated, not for me but I know for some who are new as replied above. Many forget that there are people out there that are not as perfect as they are. Remember, you once were as newb as those who are (new) here. Treat others as you would wanted to be treated.
Although ICS is nice and I have had great results it's just so early in dev stages I must go back to the darkside.

Yes, you can flash Skyrocket roms. I have flashed several of the ICS leak roms, and have not lost data connection. I just wipe and flash. No issues for me.. other than having to de-att it.
If you loose data then try a superwipe?

I think alot of the issues people have which are common across many ICS leak based roms but that only a percent of users get are purely due to the way the rom was flashed. Clearly you dont need to do all the wipes but if you dont and you get one of these bad rom flashing bugs then dont complain to the dev.

Hi all
I am not a big active poster here but love to run different toms on my phone...
I came here from the EVO forums after a switch the the E4GT.
It seems like every time I pick a ROM it goes dead right after I flash it.
Started on Blazer...No activity for months
Moved to AOKP and a couple of days later the thread implodes and is completely gone.
Yesterday I installed paranoidandroid and that thread gets closed.
Why is everyone ditching their roms? or removing the threads when they still contain critical information that is useful?
Thanks
I dont think anyone is ditching their roms. Sometimes they just wait for something better like the ICS OTA or for source. But you have to remember that the devs have a life outside of deving. Maybe their are facing personal issues that doesnt give them time to update their roms.

Calk is leaving. Remember, work phone/changing jobs. lol
There are a lot of good, active ROMs out there. Spend time in the Dev section and read through the comments, you'll be able to pick up what's still active very easily.
Things will also pick up when ICS ota comes and source drops.

please dont misunderstand me....I fully respect the Devs have a life...I was mainly talking about Threads dissapearing or being locked. If I dev needs time that is fine as you still have the thread to ask questions or reseach issues. Once the thread goes away or is closed you are limited in your options.
Sorry if I was misunderstood...
If I deleted a thread it was because it needed to be deleted, for reasons that may not be known to the common member. There's a lot that goes on behind the scene, its not just cut and dry.
---Jay--- From the AOKP'd Nexus
Blazer has only gotten so far since ICS started leaking, I mean your coming in pretty late in the phones life. I always liked Calk's rom but since CM9 got so far so quick I am sticking with that for the life of the phone. AOKP will pick up eventually.
i think paraniod android just moved locations but is still active.

I too am coming from the EVO and EVO 3D and the type of dev support and activity you are used to for those two phones just isnt the same as for the epic. We have great devs in here it just seems like they arent as active as they are for the EVO series of devices I also dont think you have near as many ROMs to choose from either.

I would say you haven't spent near enough time in the Dev section if you don't think our level of support is on par with other phones.
Also, to the comment regarding number of ROMs, you're talking about a phone that is over two years old (EVO) and a phone that is barely 10 months old. Yes I know the EVO 3D isn't much older but it already had a base to build on coming from the OG EVO.
Besides, we're a community that believes in quality over quantity.

Now that^^^^ answer to one above ^^^ was right on point. You are not a true android enthusiasts if you cant see the difference between these roms. Honestly I go into the Evo forum since I was a big part of that forum for a year and all I see is the same rom split in 12 different pieces. In this forum there happens to be some pretty great developers and all working on different stuff. The roms you happened to pick were by the same guy. So if his life has sent him in a different direction and he can not keep putting out quality work then either you pick it up for him or choose a different rom.
Sorry man not trying to be harsh but I just dont believe in the nice guy crap. It is what it is. Loved the Evo but in the beginning over there it was the same as it was over here. Not sure if you remember but there were like 2 roms out for a while and the steps to root were crazy(like 40 steps). My friend jump on CM9 lay back and enjoy the ride or hey you can always go back to an Evo3d
i didnt come from any other phone except the intercept(crap). and i think that CM9 has the most activity of the roms, only bcuz there are soo many phones that have been ported. and Esoteric68 is right the EVO has had way more time to come out with roms. and our phone is still fairly new compared to the EVO series. but you gotta make do with what you have, once source comes out for ICS for our phone, we'll have more roms and more things going on.

Unfortunately I think its more than that... guys go read the last few pages here and this is the reason why you loose developers. Some of you have got to learn to how to relax especially if you are leeching and can not or have not contributed yourselves.

Yes its because so many users think they are the chosen 1. I mean xda is a hell of a place if you know how to use it. I have learned to do so much just by searching these threads with any issue I have. I have themed my own stuff made changes to the system files and basically tweaked the hell out of my phone just by searching the web. My attitude is I am damn sure not the first person to ask whatever question I have to ask and knowledge is the key(hmm heard that somewhere)
With people demanding stuff and claiming stuff is broken when they are the only ones with the issue and then addressing it rudely in a thread does not make a developer WANT to do anything for you. I could go on for a while on the BS I have seen.
We need to take what these developers have given us and be grateful as well as learn how to fix some of this stuff ourselves. If you can not help yourself then either ask nicely or #gositdownsomewhere
*rant over* Playya Out!

I've lost my Wildfire S in a hospital somewhere, I don't know where it went. It's probably out of battery by now, but I've locked the IMEI and SIM, as well as installing Plan B from the Android Market Google Play Store. I live in Cardiff, so we're all awesome pro-hackers and anybody who get's hold of it who knows phones like me or you will just unlock it. They can keep it if they're that clever actually
I've called lost and found, etc. but no luck. If it turns up I'll continue development for the phone, but if not then I'm guessing I'm going to have to buy a new phone, most likely a One V or One S.
I'd like to say that you guys were brilliant, the amount of development when I came here was nothing, I've taught noobs to become pro developers, have had my posts trolled, have been donated a bit of money, made a pointless rom and good ones too.
If I find it, I'll probably still buy a new phone, but develop for this one, not my new one. I came here a noob to contact a developer to download their theme (I think, I can't remember very well) as the links they put up on their thread wouldn't open on my phone, I then contacted alquez and asked if he needed help from a noob like myself, he told me about adb, etc.
Around that time, I made my first port, it was an ICS port from the Aria, it took longer than it looked...
As I tried to mess about with kernels and some other totally pointless stuff to try and fix the touchscreen bug we had. Of course I didn't know what I was doing but I was learning every second I Googled a problem. I felt like we had a lot of developers in the forum all working alone, so I established (as a noob) the WFSDEV team. I learned a lot there but people left, and I made .sense, my first ROM. It grew into something awesome, then became too big and caved in.
Then I.. I don't even know what I was doing then... Probably busy with stuff
Then Ivan, Henry, Oliver and myself started wasting our time on a Sense 4 port. That failed by the way, and was attacked by a 'developer'. We worked hard on that port but it never did boot fully
I started working on a new ROM, Roboto and Ivan worked on a mod called MarvelMod, we decided to combine ROMs and make RobotoMod, based on .sense's AROMA code. It worked, it had bugs but it worked
So then, I ported Jelly Bean to our phones and after that it brings me to now I guess, of course there was stuff in between all of that
So, as a final note:
Thank you to the devs who I learnt from and you're welcome to the people who use my stuff.
As a final present to you guys, I'll be porting Project Llama to this phone, at least the first build.

Hello guys and gals. A good friend of mine ktempleton has asked, and practically begged, me to come and dev for you guys.
Who the hell am I:
First off, I've been developing and assisting development on a few different devices, Skyrocket, Blaze, SGS4G, Captivate, LG Nitro, many HTC devices, and much more. I am best known for my Lightning Zap! tweaks, which later became a kernel. I have now been a ROM and kernel dev for almost 2 years, and have built up quite a large amount of knowledge with Android development. Much of my work can be reference through the links in my signature.
What I have to offer and what I have planned:
I will bring you one of the fastest, battery saving kernels ever known to Android. Which phase 1 is currently being tested as we speak. Not only to I plan to bring you an awesome kernel, but I also will make a Gremlin Remover for this device, a ROM or 2 (with the help of Team T-n-T), and more.
When I develop something, I tried to read every post in that thread. I also try to fix any and every issue someone has, whether it be an issue 1 person is having and an issue everyone is having. However, I cannot fix anything I cannot duplicate. So, please provide me with logs and or a detailed description anytime you encounter a problem with any of my work.
What is Lightning Zap!:
Lightning Zap! started a a tweaks package of init.d scripts that I compiled from a few different devices. My Lightning Zap! vision was to increase battery life per charge while still maintaining maximum performance. In my earlier dev days, I begin to learn a lot on how this stuff works. Once I was comfortable and knowledgeable, I decided to incorporate the Lightning Zap! Tweaks into a kernel and ditch the scripts with the theory that if it was already written into the kernel, then it would work better since it was now native instead of an add-on. After my first compilation, a huge difference was noticed. Boot time was significantly faster, scrolling and transition speed was so fast it nearly seemed choppy, average battery life per charge was significantly improved as well as overall performance. My goal for the SGS4G was achieved. Maximum performance and exceptional battery life. As I started branching out to other devices, I found that my tweaks to the Linux kernel was in general universal. Which means, if it's a Linux kernel, to include your pc, you can Lightning Zap! the crap out of it!
In summary, I would like to say that I am excited to begin working on the Epic 4G Touch, and can't wait to bring you the Lightning Zap! Kernel and much more...
This sounds great. Welcome aboard and looking forward to seeing this in action.
Excellent!! Looking forward to your work. Will your first release be soap or TW based? Either way, welcome to the party
Edit: btw that above was supposed to be AOSP, darn autocorrect

Use the included VVM like everyone else does. Or uninstall the VVM and use the dial in VM, it works just fine. Even with VVM when I don't have a data connection the VM notification shows a pending VM on the network.

1st. Not everyone uses VVM.
2nd. Not everyone can use VVM. This is determined by your provider. This is not just a choice you can make.
3rd. You would not have said use VVM if you had read my statement about needing voice mail network flag notification service support, or knew the difference between how VVM and legacy voicemail worked. It might be a good idea to read a thread like this if you would like to be educated before you just tell people to use VVM when they say they need legacy voice mail support.
