I got a replacement phone from Sprint because my phone screen cracked. I'm trying to return it to stock, but now it won't boot past the fastboot/bootloader screen. I can't even get into recovery - when I choose that, it just sits there on the white startup screen. I used the unrevoked forever radio S-OFF/S-ON tool to get it to S-ON, and that's as far as I got.
Here's what it says at the top:

What base are you trying to get to? Cause if your trying to flash a rom w a older hboot it wont allow that so ull need to flash into a hboot .93 , 2.02 or 2.10, ive had success that way... does it make sense? Lol

Yes, this is what you need to do. Download the RUU for 3.70... Use that one. If you are returning the phone anyway it doesn't matter if it is difficult to root. Is the S back on now though? Or still S-Off?
If S is still on try 3.29 ruu, if that does not work try 3.30...
After RUU there will not be custom recovery anymore so if S is still OFF after that you need to install custom recovery and keep flashing s-on until it says on and then run ruu again.

the phone was rooted . . . i'm trying to UNROOT it. will that work? the only 3.70 i see on search is a rooted version . . . and a zip. would i rename that zip to PC36IMG.zip and put it on the root of the sdcard or something?
i tried renaming the 3.7 RUU zip file to PC36IMG.zip, loaded it through the bootloader, no dice. i also found an EXE version of the 3.7 - it started running and then i got an error:
ERROR[170]:USB CONNECTION ERROR
weird - it makes a usb connecting sound when i plug it in, and from my command prompt it responds to fastboot (but not adb commands) . . .
next steps?
I had S-OFF wildfire S (with xclip) rooted with cynagenmod and cwm recovery. I had some issues with my phone, wanted to see if it's related with rom or not, I decided to switch back to stock rom.
1-) I used a backup from cwm to go back to my stock rom. Then I realized that it was the time I rooted the phone, so phone refused to do 2.3.5 update.
2-) I found a ruu (maybe ota update) (RUU_Marvel_HTC_TUR_1.37.468.3_R3_Radio_47.10.35.3029H_7.46.35.08_release_196383_signed.exe) And I installed it. Then WFS installed updates like 4-5 times. And now I am on Android 2.3.5 with 2.26.468.4 version number
3-) Now there is a ***LOCKED*** mark on the page that I enter with power button and volume down.

And now my problem, when I choose recovery from this page, it shows green arrows (like updating time) for a minute then shows red exclamation mark. I have to remove battery to boot phone again normally.
I am planning to send my WFS to warranty and that's why I need it to look like not messed.
Right now I don't have root on my device, no CWM ( I think it is the reason of red exclamation mark) with stock rom 2.3.5 android.
How can I fix this recovery error?
The "Locked" means your Bootloader has been locked. You can use HTCDev to unlock it again, and then it should be functional again.
Sent from my very dumb HTC Wildfire S (Marvel - Stock Euro 2.3.5)
what you mean by functional again? Is it normal and expected for recovery mode to give red exclamation when bootloader is locked?
Or will it fix itself, or will I do it myself after unlocking the bootloader? And can I lock it back like nothing happened (just locked not oow mark)

when on the red exclamation mark screen hold volume up and press power this should put you on the stock recovery where you can re-boot the phone

this is original recovery, not a error, now you already return to stock recovery and rom,but you also need to downgrad the hboot,if you want to warranty .
Edit: Didn't see you wanted to send it back. You're all prepped to go, that's the normal recovery.

Why would I downgrade the hboot? It is what the OTA and RUU installed on my WFS by HTC's update.
I installed 2.3.3 ruu on my wfs, then the phone did the rest and update whatever needed.
In the recovery mode when you get the red exclamation marks, press vol up + power to see the recovery options
You don't need anything more, you can go and claim your warranty

Hello guys!
Please help me out! This is my first thread here
Well, Mine's, obviously, an HTC Desire HD
Well, this is my first time with an htc, before this it was motorola(i.e EASY)
So I used aahk to downgrade to froyo, which btw, was a total success!
And then I used option 1 to S-off and root, and then I'm stuck with the htc logo..
However I'm able to get to H-Boot and CWM, although I think there must have been some error while it happened...
Now, I can't say I haven't been messing around or anything, but one for sure, I've been doing things like factory reset and wiping dalvik, things like that
Please I hope you guys are still out there, with this device...
Even trying to return to s-on and all that seems to fail..
Please put me in the light over here
I'd be grateful
Also, If you're kind enough to help me out personally, email me @ashindnile (gmail.com)
I live in Argentina, so if you're around, I'll owe you a beer
Ciao!!!
Thank you,

You have not downgraded to froyo. The Kit does not do that, or you would be asking for help to fix your bootloader.
Anyway, if you are S-OFF and have CWM, you can do what guy tells you or do what the effen manual and re run the hack kit from the white screen.

Then you're not in fastboot. You get to fastboot by going to hboot (reboot while holding power and volume-down), navigating to "fastboot" with the power buttons, and selecting it with the power button. Also, again, the OP seems to imply that your bootloader isn't unlocked. If it is, hboot would say so at the top.

FASTBOOT USB
the phone is stuck on the green htc logo with a white background
my computer no longer shows a folder for the phone when i plug in usb (im certain that i made a mistake by trying a factory reset using the hboot screen after this occured) which would undoubtedly remove usb debugging. and set to default charge only setting
i can use vol dwn + pwr to go into bootloader screen (obviously)
I tried using 2 different RUU's (both labeled HTC Android Phone ROM Utility 1.0.3.2011) because that seemed to help others
It progresses to install ruu. Phone shows black background and htc logo in grey but goes no further, just hangs like that forever, when i unplug usb at that point the grey logo disappears and it shows that ruu failed! in orange colors
the rom update utility shows error 155:unknown error
then : The ROM Utility cannot update your android phone
Please get the correct ROM update utility and try again
the htcdev site only shows one utility for htc desire hd (RUU_HTC Desire Android 2.3 Upgrade (Gingerbread))
i also tried using (RUU_Ace_Sense30_S_HTC_WWE_3.12.405.1_Radio_12.65.60.29_26.14.04.28_M_release_225512_signed)
typing adb devices in cmd prompt shows no devices listed using sdk
the ruu had previously listed image version 2.47.502.7
it updated to image version 2.52.0.0 before i used htcdev to unlock it
now it tries to upgrade from 2.52 to 3.12.405.1 but won't
i followed the steps in this thread
"[how to]unlock inspire build 3.20.502.52 with htcdev in preparation to use AAHK" (you have to google it cus forum wont allow me to post url)
i didnt notice the red warning about this post being outdated OR that its a method for a different build It was 3am! and i was tired
it seemed to work fine just after the unlock in step 2
but i started having issues after i finished step 3
also if flashing an image file onto the SD card is the only route then how is that possible if my pc doesnt have access to the files
it only makes a sound when i plug it in
yes im a noob
please help
i believe that this is fixable since i read a comment that any htcdev unlocked phone is fixable...fingers crossed
is this a soft brick?
how do fix this so i can root this phone
and what method is (safest) best for rooting?

You don't. Flash it from your computer.
So after following 18 guides on trying to unlock my phone, I think I bricked it *gets stuck at HTC screen*
The current state I am in is, I have Clockwork mod installed and I can still get into the Hboot, but it says my device is an Ace... i'm not sure why. Anyway I was getting frustrated and I think I formatted my /system on my phone. What can I do to get it back or restore my phone?
- I have access to CWM and Hboot
Thank you for your help.

It's more like what haven't I done.
The latest things I did was use Clockwork Mod and I formatted everything including my /system/ folder. I did this because I was fed up and my root attempts had broken my WiFi so I wanted to get back to square 1 and try again.
Can I restore an original ROM and get rid of Clockwork Mod, if all I can really access right now is Hboot and Clockwork mod?
Formatting system does not go back to square one. Did you unlock your bootloader with HTCDev? If so, did you relock? Did you try to S-Off, and if so, with AAHK? AAHK2? Manually? Did you root? Did you flash a recovery other than CWM? Did you flash the right version? Those things could all matter. That's why I'd like to know exactly what you did.
If you can't remember, boot into the bootloader. What does it say?

I don't think I relocked, not on purpose anyway.
I tried to S-off with this method:
Code:
boot to recovery (yes, the screen may well be blank, but adb should work fine)
adb push gfree /tmp/
adb shell chmod 775 /tmp/gfree
adb shell /tmp/gfree -f >> yeilds – s-off, supercid, sim-unlock
However when I tried this I got an error at the end
Code:
Attempting to power cycle eMMC… Failed.
No such directory
That should have been the last step and I would have been golden. However since it did not work, and because the guy does not support these actions, I found a much simpler application to do S-OFF and root all in one. However now that application says my phone is a device called "ace" and it will not work, which is why I was trying to go backwards.
And I only just saw now that AAHK2 is out........ ugh. I just want to go back to the beginning. I will post why my phone says in recovery mode to provide more info when I get home.
Thanks for the help so far.
Also would anyone know how I could get my hands on the original rom that would come with a Telus HTC DHD?
like what bananagranola said..you must show us what the state of your phone bootloader now..then we can continued help and guide you what the next step you must to do..
just turn on your phone with pressing and hold volume down+power until get inside phone bootloader..then you can tell us what the state is..?
example like this..:
**UNLOCKED**
ACE PVT SHIP S-ON RL
Hboot -2.00.0027
MICROP-0438
RAdio -26.14.04.28_M
Emmc-boot

Ok good news! I used clockwork recover to bring my phone back to something... hopefully it was smart. I bought it to this
DHD_WWE_3.12.405.1_STOCK_rooted_by_nitr00
My wifi is still broken, when I go to it it jsut says error. Could this be a bad Radio version?
My current software version is
2.3.5
3.0 htc sense
software is 3.12.405.1_rooted_by_nitr00
What steps should I take now that I am in this position? I am still trying to get my phone in a state that I can use my Rogers sim card. Currently I cannot find any networks with my card. I am still at the above stats, S-ON, etc..
