What do you folks here think is more stable and fast with performance options? What do you think the most stable ROM is for both? Thanks in advance

I can't help you in ROMs because I always run my own compiled one from AOSP.
4.2 seems fine with me like 4.1 in terms of stability. I haven't run into any major issues that I can think of as a disadvantage of 4.2 actually I really like the toggles of 4.2
Check this thread for some information
From my experience, 4.2.1 Roms are all working really well and you can definitely make the upgrade. My personal favourite is the Paranoid Android rom!
4.1.2 roms are flawless but once you start using 4.2.1 you won't really wanna go back.
The only issue with 4.2 is the custom kernels aren't really that stable. Hope this helps

Actually, I was on 4.2.1 since release, and now I switched back to 4.1.2... I had too many problems with 4.2.1... battery drains, random reboots, freezing. etc
For the moment you better stay on 4.1.2 because the roms are more bugless and it is smoother too I am currently using cm10 an it is in my opinion one of the best with plenty of features and you can always flash the android 4.2.1 gapps like the camera and gmail,... above android 4.1.2
Yeah, I'm on cm10 as well
I think that the most stable CM10. Is very close to the AOSP, but there isn't a stable version both for the 4.1 and 4.2.
After all, the choice of the ROM is very personal. You have to try a lot of Roms and kernels until you are satisfied. It's the only way
I agree. I actually got the phone on 4.2.1 then rooted and been using Roms. Right now I'm on xylon its pretty solid I have just heard there are quicker Roms on 4.1 quick question. Since I am already rooted using a custom ROM all I would have to do is full wipe and flash a4.1 ROM if I decided correct?

My experience on stock kernel was fine. Anyone having issues on stock kernel? I was just saying that most of the time have MOST of the features port up, and they seem to work fine for me. Although maybe some of the butter is gone

I have been using mmuzzy 4.2.1 build. Its been very stable.
hi im new to all this rooting and flashing roms and right now i have cm10 installed and running smoothly but i want to get android 4.2 and i want to know what the best and most stable rom out there is the last time i flashed the rom i used goomanager and did it only using my phone so if possible a rom that i can find in goomanager and also can i also have touchwiz installed i liked that about the stock s3 and the rom i have right now doesnt have touchwiz...thank you
I have used root box slim and task and I keep jumping back to tasks 4.2 ROM. You gotta try them yourself every phone seems to work different and you won't know until u try..

More or less you just have to research about each different rom and see which you think fits you best. Read the threads and comments, bugs, fixes, updates, etc. Watch and read reviews and pick one you think does what you need it to.
OK is it better to get the nightly builds or stable builds... I don't want a lot of crashes

If you don't want a lot of bugs and such i would go with the stable builds.
You wld have to read the change logs to see.. But I would stick to stable.

Task650 4.2.1 ROM is by far the best out there, he is one of the best developers on XDA
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1766684&nocache=1
To reiterate, your best bet is to test a few for yourself. I personally am a huge fan of Task650s AOKP 4.2.1. It is perfectly stable and full of options to suit your needs.
i would also recommend tasks aokp 4.2.1 really smooth daily driver
i have the same question, what rom can you recommend? battery life is a big factor for me. thanks.
Task's is good yet I really enjoyed vanilla rootbox as well. I'm not a huge fan of the look of AOKP in general but either would be a nice place to start. If you do decide to go back to a 4.1.2 ROM all your files are stored in a directory called "0" so you will need to use a file explorer to move them back to the main folder.
task's 4.2.1 for sure
For me, toss up between Root box and LiquidSmooth

For me rootbox
SGSlll AT&T
My advice is try them out.
No one phone is alike and no one user is alike
Battery and performance rely more on the user than the kernel/ROM
Don't expect the battery to last days if your screen is going to be on A LOT..expect a couple hours of juice..
And don't expect maximum performance with out a modified kernel and trying to conserve battery.
I'm on RootBox with KT kernel all balanced out...
Try your own OC/Voltage setting to what you'll be happy with

No ROM is best because no 4.2 has working bluetooth Lol but yeah I think out of the available options, Task's for sure.
i think i have a bug or addiction to flashing new roms i am all new to the android scene and i have had my phone for about a month and all i do is swap rom every other day. Iv'e got the bug man!! the best rom i have found that works for me is the Wicked rom Port from T-Mobile i had 1d and 5hours use on a full battery the other day i also like the galaxymod rom too but cant get reception i did at first then lost it on the second day
those are my 2 favorites if you like TW based roms..
A search would have answered this. Thread closed

My girlfriend has been using a few custom roms that I've flashed for her on her nexus, but shes been having multiple SOD's and random restarts and other stability issues on 4.2.1 roms (tried a few). I would like to know the most stable rom/kernel combination that you have used in the past, 4.1.2 is preferable if the stability is better. Just basic rom features is all she needs, but stability and speed is most important, I feel pretty bad for giving her roms with some issues that I haven't experienced on my sgs3.
Thank you all for the help
If you are looking for stability and simplicity go with mmuzzy French vanilla rom. Its smooth and stable. If u want stable with mods go with carbon rom. Its fast smooth and good on battery life.

Thank you, I'm going to try flashing MMuzzy toro tonight and see how that works out
stock
yeah get her on 4.1.2 before she complains that you "broke" her phone lol. anyways i only use 4.1.2 roms right now, and i can tell you that jb sourcery 3.1 and liquid smooth 2.0 RC9 have both been straight shooters with great performance and not a single SOD in either of them
I just flashed MMuzzy's French Vanilla rom and my word is this thing awesome. Almost indistinuishable from stock. I wish I had a friend who had the GSM Gnex so we could compare features.
If you are looking for a few more features without losing stability I strongly recommend Nexus Evolution. The current version is from Jan 4 and a new version is likely to come out today or at least very soon

Thanks for all the responses I will be flashing a few of these tonight
If you want a daily driver, use stock (deodexed and rooted for customization)
Xenon is definitely my favorite.

I wouldn't recommend bugless. BuglessPete hasn't updated it since Nov, so it is still 4.1.1.
I would recommend stock, rooted, deodexed. If you want features, then MMuzzy has been quite stable for me.
I just flashed Carbon V1 over XenonHD and it's running pretty smoothly. A lot of the 4.2 and mostly all of the 4.1 ROMs are pretty stable overall.
There are so many 4.2.2 ROMs here ... I've tried a few, and have been very impressed.
Has anyone found a feature comparison or something like that?
It's confusing since many borrow elements from each other.
I'd love to hear from people who have tried a few, and which they've found to be most stable and offer best hardware support.
CM10, AOKP, Rootbox, SlimROM, Carbon, PAC-man, Illusion, Eclipse, Paranoid Android, etc.
Have I missed any?

I have flashed many AOSP ROMs on my S3. I have found Slim ROMs to be most stable and battery efficient. With dkp kernel, I get great battery life and stability. I undervolt and underclock to get the most of my battery. I do not notice any lag and battery life is phenomenal. I've been running Slim exclusively for a couple of months now. Dkp kernel with Slim ROM is a great combination for battery life and stability. Have fun flashing ROMs

Sounds good. Does Slim have Halo (yet) ?
As of 6/17 illusion hands down!! I love my HALO and 4G. CM been very stable and awesome as of late also. Those 2 ATM is my favorite AOSP!

liquid smooth
CM10.1 RC5 build has been working great for me. I might mess around with some others this weekend. So far I always end up back with CM10.1

I love slim! It has all of the nifty features I use, such as status bar mods (Battery bar, center clock mod, etc.) and it has the Real Dark Slim. Best feature they've implemented imo. Makes browsing so much easier and conserves battery quite well.
Carbon is also awesome but their nightlies sometimes have bugs that last a few days (like the power button issue, etc.).
Haven't tried out the other's too much so I'm not degrading anyone's work. Just fell in love with the two roms listed above.
ROOTBOX!!! nightlies w/HALO for me
I keep coming back to this rom because of the stability and excellent battery life with the stock kernel.
Favorite 4.2.2 ROM? Dang... I guess cm10 is out then... so cm10.1?

Sprint Galaxy S3 "Supernexus"
Whiplashh Rom
Look it up.
Liquidsmooth is nice and an update is coming soon that will have Halo.
Liquidsmooth is probably my favorite one but they dont have HALO :crying:
Rootbox hands down!
I'm staying away from Liquid and Carbon, as they seem to not have been updated in quite some time.
I'm on Slim right now, and I love the fact that you can customize the PIE buttons.
But I miss the easy DPI settings and Halo from Rootbox. I also think Rootbox is slightly better integrated. Slim has some annoying quirks to it. (Like you can't have 8-target ring on lock screen AND lock screen shortcuts.)
Does anyone know of a ROM with the PA DPI settings AND customizable PIE? I guess I could use LMT pie ...
One of these days I'll make a wiki table with all the ROMs and their features ...
I will recommend slim also stable with great battery life ..

Update 2.7 is live with Halo! Woo
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
I second that! Even with the kernel that came with SlimRom, I managed to get 11 hours 45 minutes on battery with 3 hours and 40 minutes of screen time with WiFi, GPS, and at times, 4G enabled. I did text a lot, I searched the web and browsed Facebook and still had 25% left over. Not bad for a 4.2.2 ROM
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
I'm a big fan of liquid smooth 2.7
apart from android version 4.2.2 vs 4.3.... What's the difference between PAC-Man ROM and Vanilla RootBox
i see that they both combine the goodies from CM, AOKP, and PA
anyone with experiences from both?
Honestly imho, all of them are practically the same. Probably with a few different tweaks and mods, that the DEV may add in:thumbup:. But only one, Will know what they like on there PHONE. After ruining a few Rom's of there choice!
Testing ProBam which is basically all of them combined...
Just my 2¢®
