I love ROMs like AOKP but pure android lacks many of the extras that Samsung packs into the TW ROM. The biggest thing for me is the camera on the AOSP ROMs. I use my camera and lot and the basic camera isn't enough for me. But that's about it. I love the updates and clean feel.

couldn't u use a app from the Google play that can almost mimick the camera app on AOSP such as procapture or Camera Zoom fx. nit trying to be mean just trying to get two sides on this thread?

All the tw features keep me on tw.
Sent from Pluto.
I personally love the "pure Google" look and feel. Very simplistic and fast. Not to say the TW ROMs aren't fast as well on this phone, but I like the AOSP feel a little more, even if I do have to occasionally restore my TW ROM to use some of the TW features (PRL updates, etc.)
Aosp just for reliability and its getting allot faster then two variants

AOSP means Android Open Source Project.
In other words AOSP is the default build that is pure and unchanged from what Google puts out.

I like the support and features of aosp based roms but at the same time i have to go to tw which is native to the phone because I don't have to worry about bugs or compatibility issues. Also the camera takes much better pictures on touchwiz vs aokp

I think the only way to get the true google experience is to get a nexus since the proprietary drivers are already there and not much modification is needed.
TW throws the heat man I flashed codename last night played around a bit and went straight back to TW the features on it are just so more refined on this device even without root. This is the second time (1st being the Photon) I'd just prefer not to add custom roms or anything really since everything is already so smooth and already there. Maybe when CM10 goes to official builds I'll go back but by then I'll already have the Note 2 and Android 4.2 or 5.0 whatever will be out and possibly all CM10 work will stop.
Once CM10 is finalized I could see that being my daily driver. Touchwiz is cool but there something beautiful about the simplistic look and feel of AOSP builds

If i flash a CM10 nightly just like normal, do i have to do anything special to go back to a touchwiz rom? Or do i just go back in recovery and restore it or install a new one?

I like AOSP but in this phone it lacks many things. By example full screen camera, and too many options that aren't available. I used CM9 in my Epic 4g because it was ICS. Now the experience of TW with ICS is other. I can wait for JB with TW.

I have been a big CM fan since I first got it on my HTC Sensation. I have to say now that I have the SIII I probably won't put CM on here. This phone is amazing just as it is, mostly. Had to root it obviously but I'm running stock rooted and I can't see myself ever changing that. Threw on derkernels alpha kernels to get some extra cpu speed. Not that it really needs it though. I absolutely love the camera. AOSP really doesnt have anything on this ROM. Which is something I never thought I'd say. On any phone.... Ever.

Sammie did a great job with TW on this bad boy. I used to flash CM for the lock screen features, notification toggles, speed, and battery life improvements. TW has all that now. Actually, its awesome but kinda sucks cuz it takes some of the excitement away from flashing new roms. Still, once JB is stable, I'll probably use AOSP more frequently.
I am having a hard time deciding if I want to go back to TW with stock JB. So far I am really happy with CM10 except for minor bugs here and there but what about you guys, Have you changed from CM10 to JB?
How do you like it?
Is it as fast and snappy'?
I miss the stock camera, the email layout, some gestures (txt to talk, Facebook integrated with contacts) and other lil' things here and there but that is about it.
Let me know.
I switched back. Its nice, smooth and snappy, but I do miss the vanilla aosp that cm10 delivers.....

Just jumped from cm10 to this partly because ill be sending my phone to samsung soon. It is snappier if not the same than cm10. Quadrant score is 6100

I like both will use TouchWiz JB when need complete stock everything working 100% and then go to AOSP/AOKP when I want to have more fun with themes and such.
Yep I switched. I had been using all of the JB Leaks and had strangely poor performance but recently was able to attribute that to the "media server" taking up a disproportionate amount of CPU time and I was able to fix that. Everything's good.
I tried out the stock OTA and then switched right back. IMO nothing beats this stable CM 10.0 build.

Except having a camera that can save to SD card, ammirite!!!
Kidding aside, I switched back from CM to stock just a few days before the JB update and am glad I did. I've always used CM ROMs with previous phones, but this was the first time that there were simply too many things that should just work right that simply were not working right. The stock JB is definitely snappy, camera is great, GPS works instantaneously (was another gripe I was having with CM).

I was wondering how people would compare stock android camera vs the galaxy s3 camera. To me it seems like you would be losing features if you switched to a AOSP based rom, atlease until they are based on 4.2.

Hold on there Cyanogenmod is far from sh*t. They do us all a great service, for free, by giving us the ability to truely own our devices and customize it the way we want.

Correct, the stock camera has a lot more features, at least a lot more that comes with the CM10 rom
I thought about it but i have always been a sucker for AOKP and CM10 since the my touch 4g, the reason I bought this phone was the fact that Samsung is usually dev friendly and usually has aosp ROMs available

I did change from cm10 nightly to stock jb official because the features touchwiz have are just amazing.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Touch wiz may be bloated.... But the features are awesome. The motion and sharing options are way ahead of stock Android. IMO not since HTC Hero has a "skin" actually added something good to android.
We can have most of the best features and still have tw options with jb roms. I don't see a benefit to running aosp on the s3.

I switch between Official JB and CM10 Stable. Both are great and I just cant seem to settle.

Just because you couldn't handle it doesn't mean it's sh*t.. You need to know what you're doing. But it's okay if you're inexperienced, just don't bash something great because you don't know what you're doing.

"Glitch Free" is a relative term. All 4.2.x Roms have some glitches, but there are many glitches that I overlook because they don't affect me.
That being said, the best way to find out which Rom you want to use is to try them out! The three that I always cycle through are:
LiquidSmooth (this is my base, I flash others to compare it to this)
Slim Bean
Carbon Rom
Now there are other ones that people have said good things about, including (but not limited to):
Deviant Xone
PAC Rom
Hope this helps, even though I basically just replicated the front page of the Original Android Sub-forum.

You can't really have a "best" ROM. The effectiveness of a ROM depends on the user. Every user has different needs. If you're looking for the most stable ROM out there, your best bet is staying on stock touchwiz. If you're looking to try out AOSP, you'll have to flash a couple of ROMs. I run Slim Bean build 3. The newest build is on Linux 3.4 and I have found bad battery life. Build 3 was released only a couple weeks ago. Using dkp kernel and Slim build 3, I have found these to be my "best" setup. I am finding very little bugs and I have great battery life and performance. You'll have to flash a few ROMs and kernels before you find out what works best for you. Have fun flashing! Good luck mate

If you're asking for a "best" ANYTHING, you should think twice before posting. As said, this is all relative. It depends on your usage, your definition of "stability", and what you consider to make something "good".
When I say the "best" I mean exactly what I said. What is the best to you and there are many ROMs that are very stable. But what's the most stable version of that ROM.

All have been updated today and all use the 4.2.2 and what looks like CM base. I like my phone to be usable with the most features as a daily. Battery is important as well as tweaking.
