Right now the free memory ram is 300 something, can we get more by rooting the device or something like that?

[Q] RAM, less than advertised?

I had the Rent A Razr and it ran smooth on stock with many apps running and still had about 450mb of free RAM free. Half the apps on my GNex and at about 300 remaining. Does ICS use more ram than the older systems?
System specs says:
711688kb total
61236 free
151804 inactive
Can someone clarify this a bit more? Just did some math, that's correct.
I dont have a gnex but on my fascinate, ICS 4.0 uses alot more RAM then 2.3.7 GB does.
would also like to know this... looks like we have 600 to 700mb memory... very odd
300mb or so is reserved for the system.

That sounds about right. I guess it does use more ram than Gingerbread.

RAM not being used is ram wasted. Really shouldn't worry about how much is being used tbh, only when there is no available ram there is a problem. ICS manages its ram fine and there should never be problems with too little ram. Wouldn't worry yourself over it.

Those missing ram are dedicated to the GPU. Though in cyanogenmod, they modified it so that the GPU will only take what it needs.

[Q][POLL] How much free memory do you have on your GNEX?

Hello everyone. Out of curiosity, I was wondering how much free memory (RAM) you all have normally. So here's a poll, go ahead!
I have about 300mb free. That seems kinda low..
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
mind a poll?
322mb, can't do the poll on xda app.
Beamed from Maguro
224MB with nothing else running but the xda-developers app.
I had a few other apps running in the background that I just closed to get to 224MB.

well this depends on what rom you have installed. When I start I have aprox 460 mb free
354MB free here.

- swiftkey3: 33MB
292 mb free - most taken by apps shown + Swype 27mb (not in screenshot)
375MB after 81hrs uptime.

I seem to get around 320 ish on cm10. im guessing that's average?
I am averaging about 400mb used. That seems high, what are your average use? I have been downloading slim bean it seems like its not a memory hog.

free ram on galaxy note 2

hiya, a bit of a random question, but could someone please tell me how much free ram they have on their note 2 on average? (should be checkable in the task manager if the note 2 still has one) i know it has 2gb total ram, but im curious to see how much of that ram is already used and how much i will actually have to play around with.
i know some of you will argue that 'free ram is wasted ram' and 'it doesnt matter since android will auto kill off background apps to give your current app more ram', but to me, these arguments are meaningless/irrelevent. on my current galaxy note, the ram management doesnt suit my usage style. everytime i open the browser, switch out of it and load another app, then re open the browser, all tabs have to reload, which is a sign to me that all the memory used by the browser has been dumped. vice versa as well, as occasionally i will switch out of a game to send a message and then when i switch back to the game, i find out that the memory used by the game has been dumped as well and i have now lost my progress in said game.
TLDR version: basically, what i wanna know is if i were to purchase the note 2 as an upgrade for my note, can i expect to be able to multitask between an app or three without it dumping the memory used by the previous app.
you will have about 1.75gb of ram

im assuming not all of that will be free. ie. on my galaxy note n7000, theres 800mb of the 1gb listed as usable, but on average, only 100-200mb of that is free.

1.75 available to the user, of that about 1.25 free after boot.
I have updated from note 1 to 2 only because of ram, believe me, now works nice and like note 1 should have been, the biggest improvement.
ram is the only thing i am hating galaxy s3 for, if rams is all good on note 2, i will buy

The best ram management is having a program like rom toolbox or fast reboot and configuring android to start to kill apps when they have less than 250mb available.
It will kill when the phone hits the line of possible struggle, so it will be always fast and snappy, and you will have about 1gb of apps in memory to open it fast.

Hi guys, just got mine today and I absolutely love it! I'm coming from a S2.. so this is my first note... When I saw this thread. .I got curious and have been checking my ram.. surprisingly contrary to all the parts above except for the op.. I always see that my ram is used to the extent of 1.55 gigs all the time Is this something I should be concerned about? My phone actually froze a couple of times as well. It could be that since its so new I'm on it continuously and therefore so little ram is available... Please let me know your thoughts..

while on the topic of ram I'm curious if the LTE models have less ram available to them vs the standard hspa model? I wouldnt think there would be much difference, but maybe some

Certainly does! I really don't understand why some people chase free RAM as it is only of any use whilst it is being used.
Coming from a Note 1, with only 1GB of memory, I notice a massive difference in multitasking performance because the OS isn't having to kill tasks in order to launch new ones, meaning switching between them is so much faster.
Android does a very good job of managing available memory, so let it do its job.

Dave

With the note 2 I never had to go to the task manager and manually free the ram (except before launching benchmarks). It just works lol.

Oh noes now Apple will sue your a**! they have that term patented! you better hide boy :silly:
After a day of use from a reboot, I still have between 1Gb and 800Mb of free RAM, without deliberately shutting anything down or changing any developer settings from stock.

Ram usage in Galaxy Nexus

Hi
I have a new Galaxy Nexus. Its stock 4.1.1 yakju. I have installed 5 application (Twitter, XDA premium, Explorer,App backup, Pool Master).
When I check ram usage (Settings->apps->running) it shows 370 to 388 always. Is this ok..?
or it should show more free ram...?
Please advise.
Thanks

The OS automatically frees up RAM if it needs it, so like the previous poster said. Free RAM is wasted RAM.

ram expander

Do you guys experience any difference to using ram expander?
I've got total of 10gb ram running and I notice a smoother run.
Any input would be appreciated to see if its only my brain telling me its making a difference :cyclops:

Ram expander is an app.
Search for it on play store. Though you will need a rooted device
10 GB ram??
Yeah I don't get it tbh. We have 2.71GB of ram and it never reaches the limit so why would you think 10GB is needed. But in all honesty I don't think its going to make much of a difference.

I didn't install it on any of my recent devices, I think there's no need, but I did install on a three year old mid range phone that I was always having trouble with. It really does seem to work on that old device.
