Hi this is my first android as well (got mine yesterday)
I must admit i havn't really installed that many apps yet.. but i can recommend the "google goggles" and "asphalt 5"
-TB-
I would also like to know.
Performance increasing apps?
Useful (swiss army knife) apps?
Amazing recreational must haves?
Thanks.
AutoKiller - memory managment
Barcode Sanner - for getting links to apps from the internet
If using mytracks:
Linda file manager - to import tracks
My track editor
A nice widget is smooth calendar if you have a lot of appointments.

Shazam is awsome

I love the SMS popup program
Australian phone - Found some of the best ones were ES Task Manager, Handcent for SMS/MMS and the ability to change tones via, Camera 360 for an app which enhances everything you can do with the camera, SMS backup to backup to Gmail account and Wheres my Droid which allows you to send a message to the phone when it is on silent which takes the silencer off and triggers the ringtone, enabling you to find it if you have misplaced it. Also another handy one is 3G watchdog which keeps an eye on your data usage.
I like:
AutoKiller (needs root)
Launcherpro
Homeswitcher
Appremover
Appsinstaller
MyBackup Pro
Fancywidget
Extended Controls
LeshaK's update.zip found here
I'm going to have to second launcherpro, really great app.
I can't find fancywidget in the market, is it under a new name maybe?
Also, while shazam is really nice and very accurate for commercial radio, is there another app that's aimed at more obscure/australian music music (I listen to Triple J if that helps)?
Finally can someone recommend a good news widget for australia.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I have also noticed this, although some songs arent registered in the shazam database

HTC complaned and it got pulled off the market i think. You will have to find an alternate source.
Since its installed on my phone can i extract the apk? I would be happy to upload somewhere.

"Got To Do" is my must have app. Was the reason to go for Android instead of the iPhone. "Note Everything Pro" is also great.

It's weird, I checked everywhere for the APK file, and couldn't find it. I managed to get a QR code from their site, and that led me to the android market place, where i could download the file

Does anyone know of a image/picture/photo viewer that displays jpg, gif, png, and bmp? I found a couple, but they are garbage.
Dimmer is useful if you like to keep display brightness down (more than you can adjust in system settings) and save battery.

Check out this thread on google music if you use it and love to flash rooms. Says google music will only allow 10 devices, so if you flash a lot of rooms you may have to open a new account

No sweat, just deauthorize your google device friends..
"Sign into your Google Music account via a PC. In the upper right most corner of the Music page, right next to your photo, if you have one, is the cog. Click on the cog and you will be presented with options. Select music settings and viola. You will quickly and easily see every device currently authorized to your Google music account along with their dates."
(source)
http://androidspin.com/2011/12/17/h...uld-deauthorized-google-music-synced-devices/
You can only dauthorize 4 devices a year now.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Just tested it and it will only allow 4 devices to be deauthorized before it gives you the "sorry you have deauthorized to many devices" message. That's going to be problematic if you change DD's every other month.
Google sooooo stupid.

Yeah I sent a nasty e-mail about this.
At least you guys get Google Music, it's not available here in Canada. Well technically it's not available, there are ways around it I guess but you still don't get the whole service/experience.

Try wiping it through titanium.
_____
It sucks as a service anyway. You have to jump through hoops just to get what you pay for in a format that you can take elsewhere. I use it like the Amazon app store, download freebies or cheap stuff and ignore it otherwise.

I really hate this since I use this a lot. Will we have to re-authorize if we restore google music though Titanium?
According to the edit, Google has fixed the issue but the deauthorization still shows 4 as the limit.
I just went through and deauthorized 9 accounts like a week ago. Who knows.

They should have updated to an unlimited amount as of the new year and I could be wrong but I believe it registers devices not roms.. meaning if you flash a rom for our t989..that's 1 device regardless if its juggs, cm7 or darkside.. build.prop will determine device
this might be a little off topic, but is there a music app that lets me create a playlist easily without having to add songs 1 by 1? i just want to be able to play my 2000 songs in random order without the same songs repeating. i tried to do this by play shuffle all but once it stops and i start the next day, some song from previous day gets played again.
They reverted back till they make it where it.reads.the.phone id number because.the.build.prop was a stupid idea.

In subsonic you can just add everything to play then shuffle and save the playlist. At most it would be 26 + numbered artist names to add via play now. The random shuffle feature doesn't add very many songs. I think one file manager will allow you to create a playlist just by selecting the directory that contains the music. Its not estrongs. Can't remember the name of it.

It went by the rom for me. My phone was listed like 8 times.
I don't normally post stuff here, but when I do, it's something I find very important or useful & worthy of passing along. I recently upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy S3 (SGH-T999) only to discover that it seems to not have default means of setting my custom MP3 files as certain ringtones-- specifically, notification sounds. All I could find in the "set as" tool was options for "alarm" and (phone) "ringtone". I did however find a laborious workaround that requires moving every damned MP3 file into the "notification" folder in the phone system, then going back to use the "set as" tool to create a clock alarm, THEN going back to the system sounds menu to open the notification sounds & (finally) find the custom MP3 file I originally moved to the (you guessed it) notifications folder. Talk about laborious & time wasting! I found this free little app, MP3 Ringtone Maker, that does all that automatically-- in other words, it does indeed have the direct option of selectiing any MP3 file within its explorer to directly "set as" the file to the system notification sound for the texting/messaging sound effect, without having to go through the previously mentioned workaround. I highly recommend this to anyone who likes to take the time to create custom sounds (as I do on my PC, using Audacity) then easily set them quickly as your phone's default sound effects. Here it is: http://bit.ly/MnLqLQ:):)
I use the myxer app. It allows you to trim any mp3 file to get a specific part of a song and when you're done, it allows you to either save it as a ringtone or a notification. It will save the file in the respective folder as well. Been using it since my evo 4g days and it hasn't failed me yet

I totally forgot about ring droid! I used that religiously back in the days lol. But I switched to myxer because I could use it to not only make my own ringtones, but I could download ringtones that were already made as well.

in hindsight (the best kind)
In hindsight, I probably should have titled my thread "A good ringtone Set-As'er"-- I realize there are great little custom ringtone makers out there-- I just happen to diddle a lot on my PC for audio stuff (since that's where the bulk of my MP3 collection is anyway) & use an audio editor (Audacity) to create custom stuff to send to my phone (instead of draining the battery on my phone to accomplish the same). I just happened to find the "MP3 Ringtone Maker" I mentioned above to seem to be the easiest app to browse my phone's storage for my selected MP3 stuff I transferred to it, and quickly "set as" them into (for example) the notification sound that the default Android "set as" tool doesn't seem to include.
where i can download this app ?
thankyou
I'm like this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.herman.ringtone

if you sign up before the end of june it will be 7.99 for life. there is a little pin on the artists, albums. its called "pin" thats basically making tracks/albums/artists available offline.
this thing works AMAZING. ive tried spotify, pandora, and loved rhapsody. but this is truly innovative.
if you swipe left from the right of the screen when your streaming a "radio" it lets you peek at the next song. and if you click on the top icon "a list with a music note" it lets you see the entire radio playlist ahead of you. you can delete songs you dont want, and even rearrange the order of songs. you can also replay, and rewind songs your listening to. pandora, rhapsody. bye bye
Really loving this app update. Play Music sucked hard before this; album art and the little progress circle would disappear anytime you closed out the app, crashed for me, just generally not something I'd expect from Google. Now we've got $7.99 a month unlimited streaming with no ads that works on my phone AND through any browser, very nice looking new UI (even if some people aren't feeling the orange), I'm very happy! Spotify Premium might soon be cancelled!
Now if I can get gapless playback to actually work, it'll get that five star rating.
A weird thing I've noticed a couple times is that I'll choose a song to stream, and it'll work, but the audio quality is pretty crappy. To fix, I choose another song and then back to the first one, and voila, good quality. Not sure if it's my gloriously slow Sprint connection or an issue with the app.
I'm on the trial too... Searched for different artist and built a playlist with around 65 songs and now All Access added around 20 more automatically to my queue based on the artist and songs I was listening to.
I was swtiching between Slacker, Spotify and Grooveshark (locked in $3mo introductory)... Can't compare paid services with the first two since the free one gave what I was looking for. But this is basically Grooveshark on steriods! It's a bit tricky to get used to the UI and add songs to queue, tap on the wrong area and it plays that song and deletes your current queue creating a new station based on that artist.
What I don't like so far is the "dancing" album art when in app "listening now", flips side to side although looking at better it seems that the album art is too big and its doing a scroll to show all of it. Find it a bit annoying, but it could be just me :silly: It's missing the Android share feature, apparently it only shares on Google+ and apparenlty you only have that feature if you have the G+ app installed. I don't and the share option is missing, a friend has G+ installed and the option appears for him. Might need further confirmation... I really don't use G+ so I haven't seen the need to install it, barely use FB anyhow.
Would be nice to have the ability to change the theme of the UI, have different options. The orange/white layout is ok, but it's a bit too shocking. Bet some themers are already decompiling this thing and seeing if its possible to change it around :fingers-crossed:
I tested it with my car radio, Pioneer DEH-X9500BHS, with BT and sound output is really good. The display shows artist and track but it didn't show the track time, maybe in the next update.
So far, this is a keeper and good for the $9.99 but even better for the $7.99 introductory fee
Edit - Widget should have dislike or thumbs down button, only has thumbs up...
But all in all this is a great for a new service launch!
Only downside so far is the lack of sd card ability. No problem on my GS3, bit on my kids' Conquers, not so great.

Okay, spoke a little too soon. The ui and functionality for one wanting music "pinned" for off-line listening is not very intuitive. The download speeds are atrocious, which I see has been a Play Music issue for a while. No way to cancel pinning/downloading, and apart from clearing app data, I don't see a way to remove tracks from the phone.
I love the sound quality and the equalizer over Rhapsody. I love having the ability to download to more than 3 devices. I hope that they do some improving during this trial phase, because I like the sound and the principle. Even Rhapsody responding to the competition and improving would be terrific.

I'm downloading a few pinned songs now, very slow indeed!
As for deleting them, there is a clear cache option in settings but my assumption is that it'll delete all the songs you've downloaded or cached during playback. There is an unpin option if you tap the bottom left of the song tile (horizontal ...), try that and see if it removed that particular track. I'll give all that a shot when it finishes downloading, at this rate it'll be tomorrow morning
Nothing but f/c's for me. And it's atrociously ugly. Google effed this app up. Back to the previous version for me... orange and white, what is google thinking? The new gtalk- hangouts is even worse...

Hello,
I have built a new application named MusicTimeOff. You can find it in this link
A big part of coding was done with my nexus 7.
The app stops the music after a certain period of time which use will define.
This idea came to me when I left my phone playing music at night and in the morning it was dead ( battery 0% ) so I thought a program to stop music will be useful. Furthermore , the other apps in the market is more complicated and some of them is paid, so I developed this app alone.
There are also other useful features.
Check it out , it worths the time.
Thanks bro, very useful using it now.
You have no idea how long I've wanted something like this! Awesome.
