hello xda forum,
first of all sorry for my bad english, this is the reason why I have to use google translation ....
I have some problems when I use KF First Aide and KFHD System.img recovery tool.
History: I have a KFHD 8.9 for 1 week. to get root, I found a very good German instructions with pictures in another forum and successfully tested.
After I successfully had root privileges, I have made a mistake. I used the wrong bootloader. Result was the RedScreen ...
After I had found the tool xda forum KF First Aide or KFHD System.img recovery, I was able to eliminate the Red Screen.
So I got myself with the descriptions in the xda froum has the following problems:
some points in KFFirstAide work wonderfully with other items - 2 bootloader I get RedScreen or upgrade su I get freezing ....
is that my fault or not all points in KFFirstaide ok?
Thanks for your answers ....

I recommend following the process for installing the 2. Boot loader by hash code ( see FAQ ).
Just copy the commands.
For more help PM me, I also speak German
Try to use the Fireflash apk method for installing 2nd boot loader.
Over fastboot/ADB i got errors by sending the stack codes, the result was boot loop in my case.
hello forum
first of all thank you to hallekamp for your help offer my native language :good:
after I repeatedly get RED screen, I dared myself to the manual installation from the forum. Once I realized where the DL files are to be stored, the rest was a breeze.
Maybe you could list the location of the download files in the declarations for beginners.
Meanwhile, the instructions even for the KF HD 8.9 are available, what the newcomers with a KF HD 8.9 understand the immensely facilitated.
Thanks to take this opportunity once again to all who share their knowledge and their time to this forum.

I've got ADB running and i've tried Sparkym3 and a few other root methods and i keep getting permission denied when i go to write fbmode or su
SO i'm at a loss, i'd really like to get this installed and working for my handicapped father's new kindle, its his xmas gift, and i know i'd prefer he be able to use google play and stuff.

I just want a work around to be able to get google play, and how is this the wrong thread? I have a kindle fire...and a question lol
The information in this forum is for the 1st gen. Kindle Fire. To avoid having the methods here be misleading to anyone seeking help with their devices. That doesn't take away from the fact that someone was still willing to point you in the right direction for your device specificly. This is to prevent confusion for all involved and what you need is not in this forum.
And also the fact that following any of the guides in this forum could possible HARD-BRICK your 2gen kindle fire. Consider yourself warned

Ah okay, i'm new here so i didn't know how i was in the wrong forum since it said kindle fire ;p
Ok so I've been looking for a rooting method for my Kindle Fire( non hd ) with 10.3.0 fw
you mention the forum, ive looked in it. but im not able to find a single place which provides a method for that. so my question is this: is there a working method to root a Kindle Fire (nonHD) 10.3.0 fw without a factory cable? im assuming my KF is a 2nd gen model (it is, isnt it?). if so, please explain or provide a link for that.
also, every place i see says : ** ONLY FOR 1ST GEN. TRY FOR 2ND GEN AT YOUR OWN RISK **. it says so on the TWRP help forums and even the KFU help forums. what do i do??
Im not new to using the downloading apk method to get apps, but off lately whenever i download an apk from silk browser onto my KF and the notification pops that the download is complete, i click on the notification which is what you do to install that apk. but when i hit the notification, *nothing* happens. absolutely nothing. the notification disappears and the app is not installed. why? :/
regarding the problem with apks, i even mailed it to myself and tried downloading it from the stock email app, but no, even from the email app, the APK (as an attachment) refuses to start downloading
any help is appreciated
I believe you're in the wrong forum. That's why you only see "ONLY FOR 1ST GEN"
Try this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1789

In of the posts in that forum, dev Hashcode has posted what seems to be a quite successful 4.2.2 stock ROM by the looks of the comments. but i really dont understand the entire process cause im new to flashing etc
if you dont mind, could you please write me an in-depth step by step instructional for this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2146030

I don't think you understand my point, brother.
I said you are in the wrong forum. This is the 1stGen KF forum.
Your device is 2ndGen.
I can write up an instructions but again, it's for 1stGen since I don't have the 2ndGen.
Follow instructions for device A to device B is UNWISE.
You don't want to brick your KF and you know I don't want indirectly bricking your device.
My suggestion once again: go to the 2ndGen forum and ask for help, I'm sure there are many experts there will help you through.
Is it possible I hard bricked my hd 8.9? I used kffa to flash the 7.3 img but then flashed a 7.2.3 bootloader. They were both for the 8.9 but is that possible to still hard brick it? Or is it possibly a dead battery?

You know, we can go back and forth like this forever, but I doubt we will get anywhere unless you start to provide some usable information. No one here can see your device so the help you receive is dependent on what you tell us about the situation.
So far, it has been established that you used the KFFA to flash some image and the 7.2.3 bootloader, and as a result of this, your device is stuck in fastboot. Based on this information, I can tell you that your battery is probably not dead.
With that being said, considering the fact that you posted this question in the 8.9" KFHD forum, yet made it clear that you flashed the 7.2.3 bootloader (7" KFHD), I'm a little concerned. Perhaps you should clarify before things get worse for you.
Also, you claim to be a "noob at this", but that in itself doesn't help very much. There are varying degrees of "noobs" that visit this site, and it can easily be argued by some that even I fall into that category. Perhaps instead of using a general statement to explain what you don't know, it might be best to to explain what you do know and understand, so no one here has to make assumptions about your current level of experience.
Other helpful information would be...exactly what you were doing and why you were doing it that brought you to this situation in the first place. What have you done to try and resolve this problem on your own? What problems have you run into as a result? The more information you are able to provide about your situation, the easier it will be for others to provide the appropriate guidance so you can fix your device (on your own) in a timely and efficient manner.

Ok I had uninstalled something that I shouldn't have so I downloaded the KFFA and tried flashing the system and the recovery and I read that I also had to flash the bootloader as well so I went on goo.im and downloaded one that I found on hashcodes profile for the Kindle Fire HD. Judging from what you said about 7.2.3 being for the 7" worries me. I thought that all of hashcodes items in that particular section were for the 8.9" . It would boot into fastboot just fine until I flashed that one and now it is just a black screen and won't power on for anything. I'm a rookie rooter at this. I was able to root and install 2nd bootloader on my original Kindle Fire 2nd gen. I've been able to root my xperia tl lt30at. I've been able to root my razr m xt907 as well as unlock the bootloader and install custom roms. I'm a noob when it comes to adb and fastboot and coding etc. I hope that helps.

Now that paints a more realistic picture of what's going on.
Unfortunately, you made a fatal mistake when installing a HFDH7 bootloader onto a KFHD8.9. There is a discussion in the KF2 Help & Troubleshooting forum about getting direct access to the eMMC and re-flashing the appropriate partition images to restore devices such as yours, but it's still a work in progress and there is very little information on it regarding other devices. At this point, it may be your only hope.

Sorry for the double post....posted this earlier today with no hits.
Hello all. Glad to have found this forum. Been here for a short time and from the looks of it, I am in the right place.
Have a Kindle Fire 2nd Gen and was looking to flip it to Android OS.
Problem - My Kindle did an OTA software update and from reading the forum doesn't look like I will be able to go back to an older version which means I am stuck with the simple Android 2.(something).
As this forum has a wealth of information I know I have not read every tread......
Any advice on converting to Android 4.(something)?
My Kindle Fire has SW Version 10.4.8
Thanks in advance for any help.
wrong forum, you have a Kindle Fire 2, I have requested that this thread be moved to

but you should read [REF]All Things About Kindle Fire 2
edit: thread was moved from Kindle Fire General
to Kindle Fire 2 Q&A, Help and Troubleshooting

Thanks for the direction and help. Will keep searching.
You need to root, and install Twrp recovery, then you can install custom roms.

I was reading on a different part of the forum that if I root it the way it stands (w/ SW 10.4.8) I would brick it. The warning was pretty certain because with this SW build it closes all the "holes" - so to speak.
Unless there has been some new development.
Read question 5 from this thread......

You misunderstand q5. You can root 10.4.8
If you want to install the second bootloader and twrp you'll have to downgrade the bootloader. .. But root is fine

I guess the next question would be has anyone successfully converted 10.4.8 to Android?
If so, what are the steps. I can find steps for an older SW version but not 10.4.8.

Yes. I have. Follow these instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2100963
You'll see that part of the instructions will downgrade the bootloader. I greatly recommends that you have a fastboot cable available since this is a notoriously tricky device. Hit me up on Pm if you need more detailed assistance.
You only! Lol. Every time I say that I get 1000 pms from other people.

Understood. I will give this a shot and see how it goes. First thing,,,,find a fastboot cable.
Thanks for the help
I recently bought a KF 2nd gen off a friend and sucessfully rooted it on 10.5.0. But I'm stumped on how to install the 2nd bootloader and recovery. I had a KFHD and used FireFlash in the past but, I not sure that i should use that software. I looked at Hashcode's thread but, still need a bit of a walk through. I do have a fastboot cable but, was looking for a easier possible automated way to install the 2nd bootloader and recovery.
Unfortunately, you need a fastboot/factory cable to flash the second bootloader to your device.
Also (to my knowledge), there isn't a second bootloader for 10.5.1 or 10.5.0 yet.
If you have any questions about your device, don't be afraid to ask!
