[Q] install su through odin? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

What would I do in odin to install a su. Zip through odin?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have many app ideas, but don't have the skill or the time to learn how to make an app. if you would like to know an idea and attempt to make one, just message me.
Click on PDA that's it if you can do it. Make sure nothing like partition is checked that would mess you all up. Never knew they had a odin su zip then again I never checked.
Unroot method
Hello all, would like to un root my phone. I'm running phantoms 4.1 el29
I've followed the qbking method. Odin says invalid parameter when starting the flash
I've downloaded 4 different files. And have no problem getting a COM #.
Thanks in advance
Do you have Superuser or SuperSU? the reason why I ask is SuperSU has the permenant unroot option. You can download SuperSU from the market.
Its Superuser not the other. but I also need to get to stock gingerbread.
Flash the el29 stock rooted and delete the super user apk and the binary files.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Yeah im trying to do that, but Odin just says "invalid parameters" when i click the 'okay' button.
not sure what im doing wrong.
Nevermind,
i read in some of the comments of qbkings video to rename the file and take off the .md5 at the end, and so i did and odin did a complete flash and it said pass so i can assume my phones back to stock now.
[Q] install recovery
I tried installing twrp through odin, or says pass but doesn't bring me to twrp when I reboot to recovery
Are you letting go of the buttons when you see the small blue text at the top left of the screen? Does it go to stock recovery? What happens?
Extract the recovery.img file and dd it to mmcblk0p21.
Uncheck auto reboot.
When odin finishes, disconnect usb and pull battery.
no option to verifiy signature
so basically on my CWM i dont have the option to toggle verification signature nor do i have the option to install from zip.
these are the options i have on my CWM
reboot system now
apply update from ADB
apply update from ext. storage
wipe date/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update cache
this is not my first time rooting, i had a tmobile G2X it was simple to install CWM and root it, no troubles, was able to toggle signature verification but this samsung s3 is giving me problems
Looks to me more like you have stock recovery, not cwm.
Look for /system/install-recovery.sh and delete/ rename it. Then reinstall cwm.
Sorry. Could've sworn I uploaded the tar format too.
Just archive it into a .tar format, no compression (choose "store").
7zip should do this.
I've tried that before and it never worked because of incorrect permissions.
If it doesn't work, check my signature.
OP...
There is a much easier way to flash recoveries. Pay attention.
Download recovery img. Image file... Not tar.
Movie file to the root of your SD card internal.
Name file "buckshank.img"
Download terminal emulator from market.
Open terminal emulator.
Type this:
su
dd if=/sdcard/buckshank.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 (hit enter... You'll get an output)
Then type:
reboot recovery (enter again)
Profit
I recommend to never use this method. Because typo = brick. It's just not a good idea. It's actually slower to type all that out than it is to drop into recovery or use Mobile ODIN.
It is a simple command, but remember a lot of people who ask for help with this stuff don't even know what terminal emulator is.
It's just best to keep it as simple as possible and continue using things the way they are used to using them.
And don't forget about those who might think they want to experiment with this new command, or try to recommend it to others and get it wrong.
I've seen all sorts!
Also, when a question has been answered already, be careful telling someone to stop and do it your way. It can confuse the person seeking help and depending on how you say it, can easily offend the person who already posted a solution.
(No.I didn't take any offence)
A lot of people who come here wanting to help others started out the same way. You try to help people learn not just the what to do, but the how and why. Unfortunately many don't have any interest in any of that and you can start to feel like your time is wasted. Which leads to no longer enjoying what you came here to do.
That's a big reason why I sometimes to give the shortest and simplest answers I can, and leave it at that. Another is simply due to how much time I have. But if someone wants to know more I am more than happy to share.
Obviously there are a lot of folks here who do not fit this description, and you can sometimes judge by their first or follow up posts if they are interested in more info. Most of them you will start to recognize as regulars and get to know them after a while.
Soft Bricked? Stuck at boot screen.
Basically I do have common sense and and I'm pretty knowledgeable when it comes to working with phones but this problem I have is different.
I purchased this phone(I747) already bricked thinking I can fix since I have before. It goes to cwm 6.0.3.4 and boots to Odin. Last known os was cm but don't know what version. Not even clear what bootloader it's but when trying to boot up there's the blue cm Android guy.
So here's what I tried so far to fix my problem.
1. Tried to flash the mjb restore posted somewhere on here. Flashed with no errors but when I reboot still the blue Android.
2. Wipe and formatted the proper things and tried flashing a couple of roms but all gave me error 7.
3. Tried flashing a different recovery thru Odin, all passed but non stuck. Can't get rid of my current recovery.
4. Tried to Odin 4.3 firmware but that failed.
Kinda running out of ideas on what to try next, can someone help me figure out what I'm doing wrong or what's the problem?
What did you try to flash? Status 7 means you don't have the right device for what you were trying to flash or that your build.prop was modified by the previous owner to another device name.
I believe you'll need to flash a ROM matching the current device name and work from there.
Although, I find it odd that flashing with Odin doesn't work. Have you tried flashing stock?
Yep I tried stock 4.1.1 and 4.3 thru Odin and failed. I tried installing a new recovery thru the current recovery using a zip file and it went thru with no errors but reboot and nothing has changed. Something when flashing the restore and the bootloader.
You can try flashing another/updated recovery through Odin. But until you find out what device your build.prop is setup to, you won't be able to flash a ROM through recovery.
Hopefully it is. And I duno about the command, you'll have to look that one up (or perhaps someone here knows it).
If you formatted /system, its gone and shouldn't matter. But imo you should never format system manually. Otherwise you end up with nothing to boot or troubleshoot if things go wrong.
From your recovery, find where you can use the terminal emulator and enter
getprop ro.boot loader
This is what firmware you need to be flashing via odin.
No dice, I even downloaded a 4.1.1 lk3 rom. It flashed and said successful so I rebooted and back to the blue Android. Is it possible NY partitions or whatever are corrupt and if so anyway to fix it?
Sent from my SM-N900T using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'm kinda at a loss. Wondering if its a partition not flashed by Odin that's been corrupted...
No idea if this'll help or not, but download this.
http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23060877489996938
(It is a 16gb model right?)
Now flash firmware in Odin in like usual, but check the repartition checkbox, then click the PIT button and browse to and select the file I just linked. Verify.
Click start and cross fingers.
Another thing you can try...flash twrp with Odin, but uncheck auto reboot. After it says PASS, pull the battery. Put it back in and boot recovery. Hopefully it'll stick now.
Now you can try flashing some roms again, and use the built in file manager to look for any issues/anomalies.
I'm not sure what version LK3 is, but it sounds kinda old, so you may want to look for a 4.1.1 rom to start with. That shouldn't give you any status 7 errors. Or if you want to flash newer roms you'll need to edit the asserts in the updater script.
Do you guys have a recovery flashable package for the 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 firmware? (I'm guessing that's what LK3 is.)
If so maybe flashing that would help?
No, nothing for 4.1.1 (LK3).
I don't think that's his issue though. Last time I saw that issue was on the S1 (Captivate) and the solution was to use Heimdall.
If the repartition doesn't work though, I'm not exactly sure what will.
