Download the files with computer, not the phone. Downloading on the phone often corrupts the file even though it says it downloaded successfully. Just unrar it and rename it to update.zip
I don't know which card the stock recovery uses, so I would remove any sd card you might have in the phone. Copy the file to the root directory of the internal card. Boot into stock recovery and choose the update.zip choice.
This was received on a stock ek02 not rooted phone. This will most likely break root if you have it on ek02.
Just upload it somewhere.
Is this the official update? I'm not rooted and I haven't been able to get the ota. When ek02 was leaked we were able to rename it to update.zip and flash from stock recovery.

I just md5'd the two modems, the flash and the update, and they are the same.
Yes, this is the official. Rename to update.zip and put in the root folder of the internal sd. I would pull the other sd card out just in case if you have one. Boot into stock recovery and choose the update thingy. I highly doubt if you go to el29 that you will be able to root in the future. You'd be better off odin el29 then with autoroot, flash the el29 cwm recovery.
What's the total size of the zip after unzipping. Downloaded the files not sure what program to use to join them

If you google it, choose the one for rarlabs
24mb in size (the update)

You're better off downloading patches, roms and anything that you flash the phone with on your computer and not the phone. Many times, even though it says the download was successful on the phone, the file can be corrupted and flashing it could really bork things up.

If you can read and follow directions then you shouldn't have any problems. Just a tip, when you are flashing with Odin, don't move the computer, USB cable or the phone. If the cable momentarily loses connection while flashing.... You will have a mess on your hands. It's not hard, just follow directions.
I am stock unrooted and if I install this update, will I still receive the OTA update? Also how do I go into recovery after i've downloaded the files?

That is my same concern. So if you do the OTA update then you are prevented from rooting the phone. Now why would Sprint do that. If I am not mistaken on all the other updates you were not prevented from rooting but in EL29 you are.
Am I wrong in this thinking?
I used the auto update and root method ( non odin ) and it worked great when I upgraded to EK02.
If I am correct that Sprint is now preventing root then they have a reason to this. Does Sprint have something to hide now.
In the autoroot post, it said after a certain release there isn't a root for it because the exploit was plugged. If you're impatient and want the ota early and you have no intentions of rooting in the future, then use it. If you want root and el29 then get a custom rom or the stock rooted flash or the odin flash.

I came from multiple HTC phones too and using sfhub's stock rooted was beyond easy. He has one that preserves your data, like doing an upgrade, and one that wipes everything. I wanted to start over so chose the one that wipes everything, but regardless the process was simple. Extract the file, double-click, put the phone in download mode, plug it into PC, hit start in Odin and watch it do it's thing.
His directions are simple to follow. As long as you can read and go step by step, there is no reason you can't have it installed on your phone in a few minutes.

Not sure why people are afraid of not being able to gain root after allowing the EL29 OTA. Simply use odin and flash the root with cwm and bam you're rooted with no data loss whatsoever. Or just do as others have said and use the EL29 auto-root that fshub has created. Either way you can easily have root. I was on stock EK02 then i allowed the ota EL29 and rooted without a single hitch. So i'm thinking EL29 IS rootable.
Just got another e4gt, rooted it no problem. Would have liked the old way of doing things instead of a one click, but ok, it worked.
I'm on stock EL29. I want cwm so I can have a nandroid of this stock rooted rom for easy downgrade and going back to stock. Through about an hour of reading and having about 20 tabs open, I have narrowed the options and methods and this's or that's and whatnot to number 3 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1474023 Can someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
I have tried to flash CWM through RM. Says successful, but when I boot to recovery, it goes to Andy and the triangle. When I use vol up + power to go to recovery, it takes me to stock 3e.
This phone is on EL29, straight from the box, with root.
Thanks for any response guys.

Oh and to re-iterate. Don't use Rom Manager.
So I've ran into a huge problem or what seems like a huge problem to me. I just got a new Galaxy S3 16 GB from T-Mobile last Friday. Three days later, I rooted it. I used the instructions from this guy who I now think doesn't know what he's talking about.
Can't upload the link because I'm new but it's called "How to Root T-Mobile Galaxy S3 SGH-T999" by High On Android and it's on YouTube.
Now there's me all happy getting ready to have some fun with my new root. I try downloading a game in which I need to use Titanium Backup. It tells me that I'm not rooted. I go to Superuser and it says I'm not rooted. So now I go to Root Checker and you already know what it says.... NOT ROOTED! Now I'm thinking I should do that new software update that adds Google Wallet but it want allow it probably because it's sort of rooted. So I thought to myself maybe I should just unroot it and restart all over again so I go to some unrooting instructions. It tells me to download an app called TriangleAway which also tells me that I'm not rooted. So now I can't update software, use Kies, and at the same time, can't get any benefits from being rooted. What is the problem here and what do I do?

Did you root it? We are here if you still need help.

I've only used Odin once and found it very simple. Look for the guide that says no trip root method. All you do is simply download a stock rom that already has root injected in it. Unzip the file and you should now have some file called "root666....something".tar
Place phone in download mode. Connect usb to pc and launch Odin. Make sure the phone shows up in com window and there's 2 settings you need to select auto reboot and one other setting, its in the guide. The use pda and select the tar file and flash and the phone will automatically reboot when everything's done and you're good to go

I followed the video and no problem. After doing odin for flashing the recovery did you boot into recovery and flash the zip file you were instructed to install? Since it is and older video you must update the super user app that you install from the play store. After updating the app open it and it will tell you it needs to install new binaries. To your phone.

Same guy from the other video I took instructions from. In the description it says "Here's how to root your Sprint Galaxy S3 SPH-L710 or T-Mobile Galaxy S2 SGH-T999 or AT&T Galaxy S3 SGH-i747!" I have a hard time following instructions from someone who has errors in their description in addition to following instructions from his other video and ending up posting a thread in this forum.
The SGH-T999 is the S3, so that's a typo. And I know it is accurate because it's how I rooted my phone months ago. In my signature I provide all information necessary to root, including updated files (the files he links to are outdated - use mine instead). I don't know what video you saw before, but I assure you, this one works.
Odin CWM > flash Superuser in CWM > rooted.
There are only two ways to root. This one is easier than flashing a pre-rooted firmware, wiping your data.

HUGE PROBLEM I get to the point where I get to Odin3 v3.07 but for some strange reason I can't do the part where I hit start because the whole bottom part of that window is hidden by the toolbar at the bottom(Windows 7). I ran into a similar problem on Kies where I couldn't install new firmware because the bottom part wasn't visible or hidden by the toolbar. What should I do?
I've seen this happen when changing font size from the Control Panel. "Accessibility" or "Ease of access". Could also be a custom theme. Can we get a screenshot of you running Odin?

Nvrmind I hit the button using the Tab key. But now that I got done with all that I get to the part of going to Superuser and it never asks me to Allow or Deny. So then I install Titanium Backup and when I open it, instead of it asking me for root permissions it gives me this message:
"Sorry, I could not acquire root priviledges. This application will *not* work ! Please verify that your ROM is rooted and inlcudes BusyBox, and try again.
This attempt was made using the "/system/bin/su" command."
Using CWM Touch 6.0.1.2 (which is in my signature), flash Superuser 3.2 (which is also in my signature). I warned you against using the provided flashing tools from the YoutTube videos because they are outdated. Use the files in my signature. The CWM is the newest version available, as is the Superuser, which already contains the newest binaries. I didn't build these packages because I got bored, I built them because I needed them. And it looks like you do also.
You don't need to allow Superuser root access. Well, you may for some options within the app, but not for giving other apps root access.

I'm not sure what you mean by this, but if su is in /system/bin (it shouldn't be), then you need a symlink to /system/xbin. Or just flash the version I provide in my signature, which puts it in the proper place to begin with (it will remove the not working root app/binaries).
Also, if you have Set DNS installed, remove it. It has a tendency to prevent root access from working sometimes.

Sorry, I actually meant to reply to Android_Monsters as I'm still using his method.
This takes two minutes, tops. You don't need the toolkit. The toolkit is very useful for sure (easy adb, for one; odin tar creation, etc.), but I think in this particular case, less is more. Also, the toolkit contains outdated CWM/Superuser.
You are trying to reinvent the wheel. Just borrow mine for crying out loud.
I need to return my phone to stock so I can send in for warranty. I used the one click method a while back. Unroot checker says im not rooted but I still have the su icon in my apps. I tried flashing the stock tar file but odin gets stuck at nand write start. Ive searched on how to correct this issue but from what ive read no one has found a solution. I have tried about 4 different odin versions. I wanted to try to flash a pit file to see if that works, but I can not find the correct pit file. Can I get some assistance please?

Hello,
So, I have the T-Mobile S4, obviously, and I updated to 4.3 using Kies. Well, long story short, after the updated I couldn't use WiFi at all. I ended up using Odin and putting the stock firmware back on, and that fixed everything.
Now, I rooted it using this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1980683 but, the SuperSU root isn't letting me use OBackup, now. Before, when I had Superuser, it let me use it just fine.
Is there any way to switch from SuperSU to Superuser? I've been reading a few threads but they are all for 4.2.2 and I'm not sure if it'll work on 4.3. I read on one of the threads to use "CWM recovery" and use Odin and that would work, but again, that's 4.2.2.
Any ideas would be great.

The easiest way to solve the problem is to re-odin flash stock 4.2.2 firmware.
After that download CF-AUTOROOT and odin flash it.
After that you will be fully rooted and all apps which require root will work again.
Here is the direct download link for cf-autoroot: http://download.chainfire.eu/328/CF...jfltetmo-jfltetmo-sghm919.zip?retrieve_file=1
p.s. you might need to re-flash cwm or twrp custom recovery.
Good luck!

Yeah; I tried downloading it from the playstore, but all it tells me once I open it is that the it is oudated and needs to update. I hit "Update" and then it crashes the app, and restarts the phone into recovery mode with no prompts except "reboot phone".
And the thing is I do NOT want to go back to 4.2.2. I want to find a way back to Superuser instead of SuperSU.
