Anyone know where the amazon app store stores all the .apk and other data. This is probably obvious but sometimes we are all a little retarded
I would think it would need to be in /data/app to run, but I could be wrong. The apps may also be in /data/app-private

In the end, there's really no difference between the Amazon app store and any other method of sideloading an app. The app gets installed just like any other.
Data will be in /data/data. App will be in /data/app, or in an encrypted container stored under /sdcard/.android_secure and mounted under /mnt/asec if it's been moved to the SD card. Some apps also show up in /data/app-private, though I'm not sure what's determining that.
I was wondering the same thing, When Amazon Downloads apps, where does it store the data(before it is installed)..... because when I uninstall an app, amazon still has it downloaded and stored... but where??? Ive looked on Sd card, but nothing... I just hope it doesn't take and use up all my data for apps I DL, but uninstall

If I used it & felt like giving out card info for free apps, I'd look further into it. Why do you use the Amazon App Store as opposed to the market? Is there anything I'm missing out on except for the free paid apps each day?
And I'm confused by your explanation of app downloads. Are you saying Amazon downloads the apps, then you have to choose install from the notification bar (or something similar)?

Apps in /data/app-private are considered "protected". Backup apps (without root access) cannot backup these apps. The developers don't want the .apks easily accessible to everyone (for whatever reason).
If you get the app from the amazon app store on your phone just because it's the free app of the day, but you don't have intention of installing the app and using it right away, amazon still downloads the .apk on to your phone on the sd card, under /sdcard/Android/data/com.amazon.venezia/cache
Yes, that's it exactly. Thanks!
This is aprticularly useful for Android owners on AT&T so we can get the free app and asave the apk and then use Android Injector or similar to sideload.
For those doing this, you must grab the APK from this folder before you download the next app since it seems it removes the previous download when downloading the next app.
I download it, grab it from my phone to my PC and then sideload it from there. Annoying, but until AT&T release their deadly grip on my phone's ability to install from other sources, this is the only way.
It'd be nice if you could download the APK directly from Amazon's pc-based webiste, but oh well there too.
I am not rooted for those that were curious and am running a stock ROM on my Motorola Atrix -- I know this is wrong forum, but it came up for my Google search and I figure it will help others doing the same.
Angry birds not in data/app?
Sort of along this topic.. I am aware no matter how the app is installed, it's typically in data/app data/app-private, or possibly system/app folders. However I've noticed recently that I cannot view the apk files for any angry birds games regardless of how they're installed, whether it be amazon app store or android market. I've been backing up the apps I purchase, or the 1 free app a day from the amazon market, however I cannot locate any of the angry birds games? I've done some searching for this and haven't been able to come across a reason or explanation. I am rooted, I typically use ES File Explorer on the phone or Droid Explorer on the computer.
Edit: I did end up finding out my problem (user error). As they automagically move to the sd card, they were not showing in the data app folder. I moved them all back over to the phone, rebooted, backed up the apk from the data/app, then put them back on the sd card. I tried to move them initially, but they weren't showing until I rebooted.
How would one take advantage of this with an app that is from the Play Store as well?
Allow me to explain...
I LOVE Jetpack Joyride. I have it originally on my iPhone 3GS. When I switched to Android with the Galaxy SII (i777; AT&T), I wanted it. Bad. It finally came but first through the Amazon App store. I immediately downloaded it, despite my disdain for the Amazon app. Well now Jetpack Joyride is available through the Play Store and I'd like to use it through there just with the way updating works (auto as opposed to Amazon's clunk, terrible app where I have to go in a basically sideload it). Is there a way to keep the save data from JJ that I have from Amazon and copy it to the right spot so if I were to have gotten JJ from the Play Store, that it could access it and I could just continue swimmingly? I've already installed JJ from both spots at the same time and the Play Store version (gotten after) starts from 0% where as the Amazon version holds all of my achievements, etc. It sounds possible in my head (and I know I've done it for things like PC games in the past) but I'm not as familiar with the file structure of Android as I am with Windows. Appreciate any advice even if it is just suck it up and stick with JJ through Amazon and not worry about it (it really isn't a big deal).

So after flashing to EE03 I restored some apps using MyBackup root. (Apps from both Android market and Amazon market.) Problem is two apps that I "bought" (actually were free apps of the day) in the Amazon appstore are showing up as needing to be updated in my Android market. How do I change the association? I tried to update and it pulled up the charge screen as if I were buying the app for the first time, from the android market. thanks in advance.
Edit* finally found a 'workaround.' uninstalled via android market and reinstalled via Amazon market. luckily only two apps of the 10 or so I got from amazon had the bad association.
I'm bumping this because my workaround only worked for a day or two. I now have 6 "update available" apps in my android market that were downloaded via the Amazon market. Is there any way to unlink these from the Android market? Also, according to amazon, none of them are due to update, but I wonder if that's correct at all.
I guess the updates haven't been published to the Amazon appstore so your versions appear current. To confirm, check your app version and compare it to the published verson in the market.
The only way I know how to fix this, though I genuinely haven't looked around for this, is to use Titanium Backup (or similar) to detach those apps from the market. Be advised that this feature is reseverd for paid versions, however.

WORKED! You know, I tried this a few weeks ago and the option was greyed out. When I tried again, my Ti Backup kept FCing, so I reinstalled, and this time it worked. Sweet. Thanks for getting me to try again!
I don't know why I'm posting here as this is also happening to my Galaxy Tab 10.1, but for some reason, Angry Birds Rio and Pocket, are caught up in an updating loop between Amazon Appstore and Play Store. Whenever I update it using one market, the other market says that app needs to be updated. Doing so, will revert the update-needed status to the other market, and so on. I know it has nothing to do with each of the markets as I have tried originally downloading the files from one and the other and this still happens.
The weird part is that it only occurs with these 2 apps. All other apps that was updating using one market, cleared the update status on the other market as well.
Anyone know what I'm talking about?! I know it may sound confusing, so I can explain it a little better if needed.
Thanks in advance...
I get the same thing, only for Pandora though. Really annoying.
It burns when I Tapatalk...
I have had this problem for a long time. Here is the issue. If you ever "bought" it in the Amazon store, it will show up there. I have 5 apps that have this problem, and it is because I must have installed them at some point from the Amazon store, so they are on the Amazon list. There is no way (that I am aware of) to remove something from the Amazon store after you have installed it. It will always show up on your list, and therefore will always show a conflict even if it is the same version. It is VERY annoying, and I wish I could fix it, but I can't.
maybe someone else have a solution, but I don't.
I think you are talking about the "Available Apps" list in the Amazon Appstore. I am talking about the "Update List". I have never bought Angry Birds Rio in either store and this loop is found between them.
Amazon appstore is crap. I won't even install the free apps anymore. The apps I really like I repurchased from the play store.

Actually you can remove apps from the Amazon App store if you log into your Amazon account (NOT in Appstore). Once logged in, go to Your Account, then to Your Apps and Devices. There you should see a list of all your apps you have purchased as well as any free apps of the day you may have downloaded. Click on the Actions button beside the app and select Delete This App. Easy peasy!
And as an aside, I have had the exact same problems with updates between the Amazon and Google Play stores.
My quick answer is choose one market over the other.
Amazon and their penchant for DRM is enough to keep me away. The lack of support for e-pub format on the kindle is also annoying.
I could go on but no one wants to hear it.

Oh **** they added that finally? Nice
Well, I removed Pocket from my app list in the Appstore site and it is still showing it in the Update tab for Amazon Appstore. Even though I downloaded it from the Play Store.
This is so annoying. Shouldn't the markets verify the app version somehow and work with each other?
Wow! The new update for Amazon Appstore from today fixed my issues with Pocket. The only problem is with Angry Birds Rio now. I think it might have something to do with it being ad-free from Amazon and not from the Play Store. Anyone else can confirm that Rio is giving them this issue?
How weird that the update came out today. It's like they're spying on us. =)

I have had this issue with k9 mail forever. The problem lies with amazon using older versions of most apps. Unless it is a FAOTD I don't even bother getting it from amazon. Play store ALWAYS has a newer version

Hi,
Last month I rooted my Kindle. I decided to give it to my girlfriend to use but (for obvious reasons deregistered it from my Amazon account). Now after it has been deregistered she is unable to get the apps that i had on there (she has registered her own amazon account). The apps are still on there after a little exploring i did on ES explorer. They will not show up under home>apps where all the other apps are. Root access was not removed from this Kindle but the Superuser icon and Google Play Store icons were (along with the rest of the apps i downloaded from Google Play Store). I can still use the apps if I go into ES Explorer under Tools> App Manager and click on the app it will give me an option to open and it works just fine. I just opened up Google Play Store and downloaded the "Craigslist" app and it shows up under the apps page. It is just very inconvenient to do it this way and I want to know if anyone has any idea what is going on. I am completely lost!
Thank you!
Have u tried using an alternate launcher like go launcher HD? For the record, you can not just simply install alternate launchers from the play store and have them work out of the box, minus the exception of using other ROMs like kinology or cm. You would have to copy installed apk from
/data/app to /system/app and fix its permissions to avoid boot loop. I advise using something like kindle fire first aid or a app called kindle free for it though. Also thought I'd mention if you choose this route and are on amazon is x.4.1 or higher, you won't be able to set the background, I made a fix for that. If you decide to try using an alternate launcher, I'll send u a link to it, word to the wise though, if you choose to use an alternate launcher it is advised to run my wallpaper fix first or your system partition may run out of disk space and be unable to complete the fix. I really need to put my wallpaper fix in my signature... Anyways post back if you would like to try this.
Also thought I'd mention the apps are probably not showing up because of ownership issues, just a guess though, because I tried to run a free app from my mom's kindle 1st gen on mine and it refused to even open saying I didn't own it... Free app... Irony... Anyways that's just a guess, I'd love to test this theory using my moms account on this kindle but I currently have cm 10.1 installed so I can't without reflashing.

Hi,
Thank you for the response! My Kindle is running 8.4.3. I am thinking of just doing a factory reset and re rooting it because i have the program all set up on my computer, just need to re run the program. Then i will have a clean slate to work with. If my logic is correct i should be able to just start from scratch again which is relatively easy compared to finding a new solution. Let me know what you think.
Thank you
I'm confused, wouldn't you still need to login to your account to re download stuff from the cloud causing the problem all over again?

Amazon cloud works great. My girlfriend has her own account and can download any of the apps she wants off of there. The problem is that the icons dont show up for Superuser or Google Play Store. I can still use Superuser but i cannot touch the app icon to go into it but i know its still running because Titanium Backup was asking for its permission. Also when i go into Google Play Store i am able to download apps and have them appear on my kindle apps page but the original Google Play Store is not there so i have to go into ES Explorer to access Google Play (im trying to make it easier for her by having the Icon for Google Play Store on the home app page). I am having issues with Google Play and Superuser (which isnt a big deal that i cant touch the app to open it) but Google Play Store i would like to show up on the main page.

Oh OK I get what your saying now, that is strange, I'm starting to wonder if I misunderstood you from the beginning. Yea if doing a restore still for some weird reason doesn't fix it just use an alternate ui, I kinda don't like the carousel anymore myself after flashing a normal android os on mine, but restoring the os should work.

I haven't played around with many launchers but that's what it is. Specifically, I think it may be this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2790392
There are no pics there either but just from reading a lot on this site and others that's what I think it is. In my opinion, these work best when kftv launcher is frozen (requires root and xposed) but some don't want to completely bypass it because you lose prime content. Its not the only launcher. there are lots of them but I do like this developer. He has shortcuts you can use from within kodi to launch youtube, netflix and get back to aftv homescreen.
If you are rooted and do freeze the main launcher I'd just use caution. The other day I read someone on a different site froze kftv with no backup launcher installed. Now he's stuck. I don't want to make it sound dangerous. I was actually using a different mod that launched right into xbmc without xposed modules but I was careful and had a fallback launcher so if anything went wrong I still had something to boot in to.
Or if you just want to safely play around and you aren't rooted you might try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2782307
I tried it when I first got AFTV and it's pretty cool but I notice it's had some nice updates since. It basically runs on top of KFTV launcher so I think hitting the home button takes you right back to the normal menu. It does help eliminate all the clicks it takes to get from start to the app you want--IMO one of the weaker points in the aftv ui
Thanks for the information. I'm going to look into it. I'm rooted with custom boot menu and clockworkmod recovery. If anything happens, I can easily boot into recovery and flash a rooted ROM again.
Klit75 its not firedtv launcher. I am not sure what it is, but definitely not that launcher.
The answer is simple, install the amazon app store apk, reboot, finished. Keep the apk, cause if you need to install amazon apps you will have to uninstall then reinstall when finished. It basically disables you from doing anything on the amazon store while you have the app store installed, but thats the way you get your apps to look like that.

I'm a little confused. The amazon app store is already installed by default on all Amazon Fire TV's. It's on the list of apps when you go to settings/manage installed apps/
Are you saying to download the amazon apk from elsewhere, sideload it and install it over the existing Amazon app store?

That is exactly what he is saying it works but you wont be able to install anymore amazon apps. You would have to uninstall amazon appstore and resynch to get the firetv version of appstore.... soo install everything you need from the amazon app store first.

lol Okay, will give it a try! Sounds simple enough. Amazon App Store sucks anyway and I already have the Play store installed.
I wonder if it will auto populate the list of apps when I install any new apps from Play Store? I'm also assuming sideloading apps doesn't get affected by this? I will try both when I get home and will report back my findings.
Thank you guys.
