Anyone know where the amazon app store stores all the .apk and other data. This is probably obvious but sometimes we are all a little retarded
I would think it would need to be in /data/app to run, but I could be wrong. The apps may also be in /data/app-private

In the end, there's really no difference between the Amazon app store and any other method of sideloading an app. The app gets installed just like any other.
Data will be in /data/data. App will be in /data/app, or in an encrypted container stored under /sdcard/.android_secure and mounted under /mnt/asec if it's been moved to the SD card. Some apps also show up in /data/app-private, though I'm not sure what's determining that.
I was wondering the same thing, When Amazon Downloads apps, where does it store the data(before it is installed)..... because when I uninstall an app, amazon still has it downloaded and stored... but where??? Ive looked on Sd card, but nothing... I just hope it doesn't take and use up all my data for apps I DL, but uninstall

If I used it & felt like giving out card info for free apps, I'd look further into it. Why do you use the Amazon App Store as opposed to the market? Is there anything I'm missing out on except for the free paid apps each day?
And I'm confused by your explanation of app downloads. Are you saying Amazon downloads the apps, then you have to choose install from the notification bar (or something similar)?

Apps in /data/app-private are considered "protected". Backup apps (without root access) cannot backup these apps. The developers don't want the .apks easily accessible to everyone (for whatever reason).
If you get the app from the amazon app store on your phone just because it's the free app of the day, but you don't have intention of installing the app and using it right away, amazon still downloads the .apk on to your phone on the sd card, under /sdcard/Android/data/com.amazon.venezia/cache
Yes, that's it exactly. Thanks!
This is aprticularly useful for Android owners on AT&T so we can get the free app and asave the apk and then use Android Injector or similar to sideload.
For those doing this, you must grab the APK from this folder before you download the next app since it seems it removes the previous download when downloading the next app.
I download it, grab it from my phone to my PC and then sideload it from there. Annoying, but until AT&T release their deadly grip on my phone's ability to install from other sources, this is the only way.
It'd be nice if you could download the APK directly from Amazon's pc-based webiste, but oh well there too.
I am not rooted for those that were curious and am running a stock ROM on my Motorola Atrix -- I know this is wrong forum, but it came up for my Google search and I figure it will help others doing the same.
Angry birds not in data/app?
Sort of along this topic.. I am aware no matter how the app is installed, it's typically in data/app data/app-private, or possibly system/app folders. However I've noticed recently that I cannot view the apk files for any angry birds games regardless of how they're installed, whether it be amazon app store or android market. I've been backing up the apps I purchase, or the 1 free app a day from the amazon market, however I cannot locate any of the angry birds games? I've done some searching for this and haven't been able to come across a reason or explanation. I am rooted, I typically use ES File Explorer on the phone or Droid Explorer on the computer.
Edit: I did end up finding out my problem (user error). As they automagically move to the sd card, they were not showing in the data app folder. I moved them all back over to the phone, rebooted, backed up the apk from the data/app, then put them back on the sd card. I tried to move them initially, but they weren't showing until I rebooted.
How would one take advantage of this with an app that is from the Play Store as well?
Allow me to explain...
I LOVE Jetpack Joyride. I have it originally on my iPhone 3GS. When I switched to Android with the Galaxy SII (i777; AT&T), I wanted it. Bad. It finally came but first through the Amazon App store. I immediately downloaded it, despite my disdain for the Amazon app. Well now Jetpack Joyride is available through the Play Store and I'd like to use it through there just with the way updating works (auto as opposed to Amazon's clunk, terrible app where I have to go in a basically sideload it). Is there a way to keep the save data from JJ that I have from Amazon and copy it to the right spot so if I were to have gotten JJ from the Play Store, that it could access it and I could just continue swimmingly? I've already installed JJ from both spots at the same time and the Play Store version (gotten after) starts from 0% where as the Amazon version holds all of my achievements, etc. It sounds possible in my head (and I know I've done it for things like PC games in the past) but I'm not as familiar with the file structure of Android as I am with Windows. Appreciate any advice even if it is just suck it up and stick with JJ through Amazon and not worry about it (it really isn't a big deal).

Over the last few days all the apps I uninstall are not removing themselves from my market downloads page. So now I have a bunch of crap apps cluttering up my list. Is there anyway to clean up the market downloads list and remove all these free apps I don't care about since I uninstalled them? They're making it so all my updates are getting dispersed through the list, which is quite annoying. I'm running the latest CM6 Nightly.

go into SETTINGS>APPLICATIONS and clear the cache and data for the Market app. Open it up, it will re-gather the list, and you should be good to go!
Nope, tried that already and somehow they are still coming back
These are free apps by the way, I know that you can't get the paid apps to leave your downloads list.
Market in general is a joke compared to Apple App Store. I have been having the same issue.
I find it really stupid that if I click on a banner for an advertised game or app it doesn't take me there. They need to get rid if soundboards, themes and junk.

I tried reinstalling all the apps in the list, removing them all with Titanium with "Remove Market Entry" set, clearing cache and data for Market, and then rebooting... and they're all still in the bloody list. I also made a nandroid backup and wiped /data and when I logged into Market they all tried to install automatically with the apps I actually care about. Why can't I get these apps to go away?... D:

Uh, you hold the Apple App Store in such high regard, and it's full of soundboards and plenty of other "junk".
It may be a PIA, but I would try wiping everything, flashing CM and gapps and skipping the setup process. Once the system loads, go into settings and make sure backup data/apps (I can't remember exactly what its called or which settings folder its in) and then open the market and sign in.

I wish there was a way to filter crap app developers out of the market. I never want to see an app by a few developers that seem to just make stupid apps over and over (that ringclip guy, for instance) I remember there was an alternate market app a while back that let you do this, but I can't find it anymore.

Didnt mean to hurt your feelings. If you've ever had an apple product that accessed the app store you would know what I'm talking about.
1. When you uninstall an app it shouldn't remain in your downloads folder. This is very annoying and you find yourself clicking on the app you just deleted by mistake.
2. Android has a lot good apps but most of them are buried under junk apps.
3. The banners that I'm referring to is when you view all apps. It'll show me a banner of a cool looking game and if clicked on it should take me straight to the game but it doesn't.

This must be a problem with CM. I am running Fresh 3.3.0.1 and I just happened to have unistalled a bunch of apps today (all either uninstalled through the market or through settings/applications). After I uninstalled them I rebooted and they are now gone from my Market downloads page.
I have the same issue on stock 3.29 w/ root. Odex.

So I've finally gotten to that point, I can't take this verizon crap anymore. I have a nandroid backup and Ti ready to go. SO I started with installing Verizon crap, I removed VZ navigator, Backup Assistant, and Vcast Apps. After doing this now my Playstation games (both Crash, and ones I made myself) do not show in the launcher anymore, but I tried them and they do run. I guess thats cause of Vcast or???
That problem is livable, the worse problem is I am trying to convert the stock installed games (Asphalt 6 for example) to user apps to move to SD, when I do that it just says "Processing" and seems to sit there forever, I rebooted and restored my backup and tried again, and am still having the same problem. Does it just not work?

Ha that's a classic!
But your correct, without vcast my apps didn't show up in game launcher and if you removed pre installed service .apk then they wont show even with vcast .
There's a terminal line you can add to make all apps installable to sd but it will also make all new downloaded apps Install to sd and I felt like downloads were slower, not that 3g is fast in the first place though.. I'll look up the line to punch in terminal and edit my post here
Edit: I think its "pm setinstallocation 2"
That's what I could remember I'll look it up officially though

OK, so first things first. I am rooted and have attempted repeatedly to remove the Google Play Services apk with no luck. I have used TB to uninstall. freeze, delete. It will delete the file and or remove it but when I reboot its back and it wont go away. I have looked into the my
/data/app
folder and deleted the file from there and then removing it with TB, still whether I reboot or I wait anywhere from minutes to a coupel hours its back and as it doesnt show up under the PLAY store I cant think of any other way to remove the dang thing and its eating about 40mb of internal storage. I move it to SD and it will work for a bit, but then its back to internal storage..... I dont even use Google+ that much on my phone. I use it on my PC.
Any ideas/suggestions?

It takes only 7.92MB of internal storage for me.
You need to remove the GPlay store to remove it permanently.
Maybe if I rename the play store apk and add a .bak then reboot then remove the dang thing entirely it will be gone.
I looked and I dont know whats different with mine but its eating around 39mb on my phone.
Why would you want to remove it? This app, as far as I can remember I read, gives us "Smart Update" which lets you install and update only the updated portions of apps instead of redownloading the entire app. So... I just moved the app to my system partition using TB, then Integrate it with the ROM everytime it gets updated. Internal memory problem solved.
According to Google Play reviews, you need it for YouTube and possibly other Google services.

Sorry, but this is wrong. Smart Update is a Google Play Store feature and has nothing to do with Google Play Services.

Yeah true, since newest version.
Google Play Services is something like a replacement for older Google APIs on Android. It allows developers to use a newer version of those APIs (this "newer" version is not better in any way, but new ). Google's idea is to get more independant from hardware manufacturers and their updates. They want this APIs to be no longer part of the system to update them on their own. They started porting their Apps to the new APIs, YouTube is one of the affected apps (what means they did not add any feature but let the app work only on Android systems with Play Services installed).

Up until today I was quite happy with my ZTE T60. Then suddenly upon waking up this morning it was sluggish, the Internet was unresponsive and became a great disappointment. Then the low memory warnings started, my "market" Icon was switched to "Play Store". So into settings and application management I go. Now I notice two new applications I did not install or was I asked for permissions. One being the play store which is only a MB or so bigger than the old "market" app but now I also have this "Google play services" thats 19MB! My device only has 128M ROM. I don't have room for it and I cant get rid of it. Being that Google took over my device I have decided to boycott all Android devices. I would also like to note the same exact thing was done by Google with my Samsung GT-S5570 Galaxy mini. Whats the point of pushing store software onto devices like this that takes up all of the Rom so one couldn't download anything from the store if they wanted to? Doesn't Google realize this enormous update is not suitable for every android device on-line and why have they mandated it? Sorry Google, I used to love ya but this is the big goodbye.
I am not sure about windows phone OS but I can agree with you. Now Apple and Android are doing the same bad things than Windows for desktop did in the past.
Unfortunately on mobilephones its is even worse because by default you are not root/admintrator.

You need it for like all services by google. The google play store will just keep downloading it and putting it on your phone until the end of time. Youd probably have to re engineer the google play and other google apps to not download this app.

Hey everyone,
I just got a brand new Kindle Fire 2nd gen last night. I successfully rooted it and used KindleFree to put Nova launcher on it. I also used Titanium BU to restore several apps and uninstalled some bloat. The only issues I am having really is with the Amazon App Store. I have the app store on my Nexus 4 and have gathered several "Free apps of the day" over the last couple years. The Appstore does not seem to recognize any of the apps I have purchased. If I go to "Cloud" it does not show the same apps that I see on my Nexus 4. Also if I go to Amazons website and I look there I only see one app listed under my apps. I cleared data and logged into the app store again from my Nexus and oops I only see one app again. So then I unistalled the Amazon store from my Nexus and restored app+data using TB and it shows all my apps again. I tried using TB to restore my app+data for the Kindle and it will still only show one app ( which is ES file explorer I downloaded last night on the Kindle) Am I missig something? Why isn't the Kindle recognizing the apps I have downloaded under my account? Has anyone else experienced a similiar issue? This is terrible.
I also can not change any wallpapers using Nova Launcher. Any thoughts on this ? I really appreciate the help. If rooting this thing and putting CM on it didn't seem so risky I would just do that lol. Thanks for any help you can offer.
Would actually trying to reach out to Amazon Appstore customer service do any good? I kinda doubt it. I am sure it is something that just needs to be cleared or wiped or restored or something. I am just not sure what it is. The biggest concern is what I see at Amazon.com when I log in and don't see anything under my apps....

I haven't played around with many launchers but that's what it is. Specifically, I think it may be this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2790392
There are no pics there either but just from reading a lot on this site and others that's what I think it is. In my opinion, these work best when kftv launcher is frozen (requires root and xposed) but some don't want to completely bypass it because you lose prime content. Its not the only launcher. there are lots of them but I do like this developer. He has shortcuts you can use from within kodi to launch youtube, netflix and get back to aftv homescreen.
If you are rooted and do freeze the main launcher I'd just use caution. The other day I read someone on a different site froze kftv with no backup launcher installed. Now he's stuck. I don't want to make it sound dangerous. I was actually using a different mod that launched right into xbmc without xposed modules but I was careful and had a fallback launcher so if anything went wrong I still had something to boot in to.
Or if you just want to safely play around and you aren't rooted you might try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2782307
I tried it when I first got AFTV and it's pretty cool but I notice it's had some nice updates since. It basically runs on top of KFTV launcher so I think hitting the home button takes you right back to the normal menu. It does help eliminate all the clicks it takes to get from start to the app you want--IMO one of the weaker points in the aftv ui
Thanks for the information. I'm going to look into it. I'm rooted with custom boot menu and clockworkmod recovery. If anything happens, I can easily boot into recovery and flash a rooted ROM again.
Klit75 its not firedtv launcher. I am not sure what it is, but definitely not that launcher.
The answer is simple, install the amazon app store apk, reboot, finished. Keep the apk, cause if you need to install amazon apps you will have to uninstall then reinstall when finished. It basically disables you from doing anything on the amazon store while you have the app store installed, but thats the way you get your apps to look like that.

I'm a little confused. The amazon app store is already installed by default on all Amazon Fire TV's. It's on the list of apps when you go to settings/manage installed apps/
Are you saying to download the amazon apk from elsewhere, sideload it and install it over the existing Amazon app store?

lol Okay, will give it a try! Sounds simple enough. Amazon App Store sucks anyway and I already have the Play store installed.
I wonder if it will auto populate the list of apps when I install any new apps from Play Store? I'm also assuming sideloading apps doesn't get affected by this? I will try both when I get home and will report back my findings.
Thank you guys.
