Remove the goods. Add the gimmicks

Because AOSP is the epitome of choice and the carriers all have little ****..tators who only want to see the phone work to their vision. They all think they are steve jobs capable of cramming their vision down the public maw.....

The process is slow as we await the carriers to pack every last bit of bloatware in the latest release.
In all honesty that jelly bean update for s3 wasn't too bad

Samsung is just as bad as the carriers for letting them drag their feet. Its like when little kids misbehave its just as much the parents fault for allowing it.

Once Samsung releases the ROM to each carrier (to add their bloatware), its really no longer Samsung's responsibility.
I wouldn't mind it if the international ROMs could be easily ported to our devices.
Definitely a carrier based problem not Samsung, I am on AT&T right now and they took forever to update the Galaxy SIII to Jelly Bean which it really didn't matter to me because I am rooted with stock Android (Task650 AOKP)
I got a Galaxy S2 (T-Mobile) on ebay and I'm waiting for shipping. I plan to give it to my GF on her birthday. I might get it a few days before her birthday so I have some time to "play" with it. I'm not sure if I should leave it stock with ICS and Samsung UI or if should I flash any Jellybean rom with pure vanilla UI.
What advantages does TouchWiz offer from Vanilla? Which would you recommend me for a first time android user (she's been iOS user for 2 years)?
One major thing that always draws me back to touchwiz is absolutely wife calling. If that doesn't matter to your needs than a solid jelly bean rom like cm10 is definitely faster, smoother and comes with all the jelly bean extras like Google now and project butter etc etc

You guys mean wifi calling?
Aside from wifi calling, I like TW for swipe to call/swipe to text features.

coming from ios, id say its probably easier to use touchwiz, as it is somewhat similar sort of.. well advantages uh sms bubbles, the launcher is different, its really a preference between styles.

Go touchwiz. Get embryo 6.3 and you will still have Wi-Fi calling...

Whats some funny things that s voice has said to you? Mine has a weird sense of humor just check the attached photo lol.

Lol I wish S voice had more responses like that.
I enjoyed saying "I love you" to Siri... not the same on Svoice unfortunately
Robin the siri challenger has hilarious responses, I compared it with my friends iPhone and it was wayyyy better

I know it's not S Voice, but my friend had Siri and asked where to hide a dead body. It started listing off all the closest metal foundries, swamps, and obscure places to throw a dead body. LOL.

Any word on premium features coming to the phone after s4 release. I'm not blown away with s4, so I might try to make it one more phone cycle.
Also, any way to get a bit more out of the camera? That's been my biggest disappoint with the phone. I know the s4 has a better sensor, but from what I'm reading, it's processing is not stellar.
Cheers

I picked the wrong day to stop sniffing glue
Had no idea today was release day. Can't wait for it to post, or of course to come ota.
Thanks.
Kind of cool that Sprint is releasing this on S4 day. Its in their best interests, since very very few S3 users will upgrade...just some of the devs and fanboys, I suppose.
Once I get it, I could care less about the S4.

I agree. I have one more year on my contract and my S3 is in good condition. No hurry to drop full price in a S4 aka S3s lol

Also, the S3 is the last phone to support SVDO (simulataneous voice and 3G data)
At least from the looks of it anyway, seeing that the S4 and HTC One only have SVLTE

All phones have SV4G/WiFi be they LTE or WiMax. And yes SVDO is going the way of the dodo as the new 1x-advanced band will allow for SV3G without the added hardware.

I like to break stuff!
Yes, but as of now, 3G is everywhere LTE isn't (and for a long time to come for a lot of people). Some never even saw WiMax in it's lifespan.
Sorry if I didn't read this correctly, but we just get multi Window?

Yeah but the thing is, when its added at the source level (Java code thats then compiled into all the Touchwiz apps and framework) it tends to be much more stable than if we hack it in
Can we get this camera pulled and adapted for use on our devices? That Drama Shot feature is sick.

After the way things went with the S3, Skyrocket (S2 LTE), and the original Note, we'll probably get a lot of these features in the 4.2.2 update

Or we just won't get them at all.
Samsung has a well established track record of stating that a phone will get such and such, but then never releasing anything. Or if they do release it it's half-assed.
Samsung has said that they'll update the Note 2 and Galaxy S3 with all of the software features from the S4 that aren't restricted by hardware. I'm pretty sure we'll get a lot of things, but it won't be until the initial sales rush of the S4 is done.
