[Q] Galaxy note 2 heating up. - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hey I'm running jedi X 13 with the saber kernel 23. I noticed that my phone started heating up where the processor is located (top left of the screen) when playing more demanding games like nova 3 or gta 3. I checked trickster mod to get my cpu temp and it was reaching roughly around 56°C and 58°C. Just wondering if that is an oddly high temperature or if it's fine. I know they can get hot but after searching I found answers staying it should stay below 50°C to it shouldn't be above 30°C. Thanks for your time!

nexus heat issues?

does anyone else is nexus get really hot when surfing the internet or doing anything else. I've only been using the phone for 15 minutes and it's already dropped 10 percent. idk its up to about 118 degrees
is this pretty common with this phone?
Clock speed
Usage
Screen brightness
Those affect how your gets.
Are u an aggressive user and clocked it up high and always have high brightness.
No only 15% brightness no over clock. New phone just got it today just seems to heat up asap...and gets over 110 degrees easily. The of course causes major battery drain. Prob normal for this phone just never experienced heat like this before
Isn't the processor on the Gnex designed to do a panic restart when it reaches 110 C's ? :/ yes its a big issue i've noticed that the phone doesn't get that hot when using stock Rom weird...
I don't get over 110 and I'm OCed to 1.3gHz, auto brightness on.

The only time mine gets abnormally hot is during a phone call. Im even underclocked and it still does.
getting hot in a smart phone this powerful is normal. I had the S3 for week, that sucker gets hot!
I agree with OP. Mine gets noticeably warm when scrolling through large non-mobile web sites. It cool when scrolling through apps like tapatalk, market, reader apps. It must be something to do with browser engine
Mine gets quite warm as well. Especially with games like gta 3 and Final Fantasy 3.

please don't forget that you're holding a device with a dual core CPU, clocked at 1200 MHz, without fan, water-cooling or anything. ever tried touching a computer-cpu?
(don't do that, lol)
Mine can easily get to 110 degrees. It definitely has a heat issue. My Razr Maxx can get warm too, but not hot like this GNex. It hurts to palm sometimes !
LTE / Camera / Data stuff . / Charging all contributes to this.
Thank god it has removable battery, since battery life will be significantly dampened by heat.
Mine gets hot since Jelly Bean... Maybe "project butter" is intended to melt our phones like butter
remember, battery temp and cpu temp are two completely different things. cpu temp will get lowered automagically in the gnex when it reaches a certain point(heat throttling is enabled in the gnex, unless you disable it), and it will shut down the cpu when you reach 110C, not 110F, that is a safety feature. 110C is 230F btw.

[Q] Note 2 Overheating Problem

Hello XDA,
I have just bought Galaxy Note 2 (using the stock rom 4.1.2), on second day of use I have installed "Need for Speed Most Wanted". After playing about 15 minutes the upper part of Note 2 (around of the camera) started to heat up then I have stopped the app so on that it have returned to normal heat. I am so confused, do you suggest me to bring it back to store? or it is normal? have you ever had overheating on your Note 2 before?
(The mobile data was on, I was not running any apps on background, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi was off, brightness was full)
Thanks in advance!
When im playing nfs ..I also experience this one.. I guess it is normal..as long as the heat is tolerable and not too much

Thats where the exynos processor is!
It's a quad core'd beast phone without any external fans to cool off the heat. It would naturally get hot when playing GPU intensive games such as NFS.
In short its normal for it to get heated that much and all should be well.
Cheers!
And also lower your brightness.. it eats alot of battery considering nfs is also a power hog.. they will make your phone really hot

Yeah don't worry about it. Phones ALWAYS get warm when doing processor intensive things. The problem is that phones are getting thinner and thinner, and that means less and less room for the components to breathe! While it's fine and dandy that it's getting warm, it should never get too hot to handle. Otherwise, it's OK .
similar overheating problem
hey guys, i have a similar heating problem with my note 2 but it occurred after i rooted my phone with the toolkit. the overheating happens while just using the internet browser. has anyone had this problem after root?
thanks in advance.
I experienced the same last night when I played it from the external SD Card, not sure if it was the same when it was in the local sd..

I have the same issue but the screen also (upper part of it) became hot, any body face this issue?
Mine became hot around the camera lens too when playing Disney's Where is Perry? game.

How hot is it.. because normally it will feel hot when playing games... try to imagine that a powerful 1.6 quad core is insertet inside a smartphone with no ventilation..

the screen also (top half of the screen) became hot is this normal?
Yea I can confirm the same thing while playing Modern Combat 4...not 5 minutes into the game and the heat starts to pick up.

I experience heating also while playing games like NFS, Osmos HD etc. I monitored the cpu temperature and I encountered temps from 55-60C so far. In stress tests I see around 75-80C. I think is kinda hot.

No, only the hind part around the camera lens. The front and/or upper (or even whole) part around the screen is normal. Surprisingly other 3D intensive games like Beach Buggy Blitz and Blood and Glory do not get that hot like when playing with Where is Perry? game, which is a 2D game, but I guess it is more CPU intensive.
These are not problems, the heat has to go somewhere. The cpu operates safely even at temperatures above 80.
If your phone suddenly gets hot for no reason, your cpu is spiking probably because an app didn't release its lock on a high cpu frequency. Kill the rogue app.

Do you have a source for showing the ideal temps for the cpu chip? I must confirm that 65C is normal under heavy load.

Acceptable Temperature levels for the CPU?

Hello , i have searched in the forums for the answer to this questions but most posts about it seemed misinformed or just pulling their facts out of nowhere , so i ask again , what should be my limit for CPU (cpu! , not battery) temperature? .
Im running Liquid Smooth 2.0 with NCX v13 kernel , which is clocked at 1.2ghz with interactive , i think n7 values . GPU is supposed to be overclocked at 520mghz but i dont know how to check or modify this (anyway?)
Im really liking this kernel/rom and im getting decent temperatures.... Previously in stock roms , i never ever checked CPU temp , only Battery temp and i thought it was acceptable to have it under 50c (although the Renovate boost thread claims 52c is okay , HTC claims 55c is okay too) but i have an app with an alarm for 49c+ , i have only reached that like 2 or 3 times. So battery temperature is relatively controlled.
CPU temperature i never noticed but became interested after hearing that this kernel was slightly OCd , i seem to run from 45c idle to 83c under heavy load. Tegra games make the CPU get hot really fast , i played 10 minutes of Beach Buggy Blitz and the temperature reached 44.5c for battery (which is relatively low!) and 82c for CPU , the phone didnt even feel hot ,although i have a Trident Aegis case .
Non THD games seem more balanced (CPU and Battery temperature go up accordingly) . So i dunno if i should be worried.. I heard that it can reach 99c but that just seems a little bit excessive .
BTW are there any temperature alarm apps for the CPU? , like a notification or alarm if the CPU temperature goes above a certain limit? .
My HOX has only gone green and red led once , when i was watching a movie through MHL .
I used SysTuner to measure cpu temp and some other app to measure battery temperature.
Thanks for your input .

[Q] note 8 getting warm?

Hi. I noticed that the left hand part of the screen of the Note 8 (about a third of the screen on the side where you have the menu button, all the way along the left bezel) gets slightly warm with an hour or so of heavy use. I thought it was just my palm warming that side of the device when I'm holding it, until I realized that the same thing happens even when I'm using it on landscape mode. 2/3 of the screen up to the right bezel stays cool.
Anyone else notice this on his device? Is this normal for the note 8 N5100?
Yes with heavy use

Sorry, perhaps I shouldn't have put heavy use there. I'm running stock Android and with just a couple of apps in the background (say 5) the screen starts to get warm already. Is there anything I can do to remedy this?

getting warm for all Quad Core device is normal (up to 40-45 on heavy using) But if u see something more than this take it to service
u can find apps that measure temp of device and battery on play.store

I have installed Battery and System Tuner Free. The first one gives me battery temperature readings of anywhere from 31-33 degrees Celsius. System Tuner Free gives me readings of 42-51 degrees Celsius. The range happens when I'm using anywhere from 1 to 9 apps at a time.
All devices that are used heavily will really turn warm, that's normal hehe. So better dont use it that much. Let it rest for some time.
How about when you are playing hd games? In my case, Playing need for speed most wanted makes my note 8 hot too. will this damage my unit?
my note 8 get very hot when i play modern combat 4 the temp about 71 degree (measured by system tuner ) and the battery temperture about 37 or more and the left side of the screen becomes very hot and the battery drain quickly is this will harm my device ??

No. If the temperature is out of spec, the system will shut itself down.
Internal resistance in a computer + voltage = heat. And the heavier the usage, the more the heat. This is normal, folks. It would be very magical if the device did not generate heat.

ok thanks a lot for your reply
Yeah, I think playing the more graphics-intensive games really pushes my device to the limit. I switched to Android Tuner from System Tuner because it has a much cleaner UI and I *think* I understand more on it I also get readings of 70 degrees and 36 degrees for CPU and battery respectively while playing Iron Man 3 and Quadropus.
No shutdown so far so maybe that means the device can still take the heat. Thanks a lot for your replies!
Leardsdat and
It's totally normal, see both the CPU and the battery (and screen, if it's brightness is high) is warming your device. And in my understanding Android keeps it's applications on background running unless you kill them with an app or from application managing. So this means your device is processing many things at the same time and it will make it warm.

Heating issues

I just bought a Samsung yesterday. Not sure if I can tell if it's warm or hot, but it does give quite a lot of heat. Specifically where it say's Samsung next to the camera and spreads of a bit to the screen and the back. Is that where the Exynos Octa 5420 is located? Anyone mind posting screenshots of how hot their CPU gets? I'd appreciate it so I can compare it with the temperature I get; I'll post my results soon. According to some search results on google though, people some people get that warm feeling.
My Samsung travel adapter that came with the product also heats up, but again, I'm not sure how hot is actually normal. Just a FYI, doesn't burn my fingers or melt the device, just's a bit uncomfortable touching near the very top.

Exchange it. Mine doesn't get hot at all.
I just noticed mine was getting warm near the camera as well before I read this post. I was watching HD YouTube videos full screen though. It's back to normal now.
I exchanged it and it's been a couple of days already; seems like the issue is universal when playing games or having high CPU usage.
Yeah it's normal...it happens to mine as well. As long as the device isn't burning hot, the heatsink is doing it's job. This thing is powerful enough to replace laptops so heat is to be expected.
Anyone know an app that shows CPU temp in a widget? The only app I can find that shows actual CPU temp is Trickster Mod. All the other apps I tried just show battery temp.
I ran AnTuTu benchmark to where it was almost done - 87% after the 3d test - then I looked in Trickster and saw 56 degrees, quickly dropping to 42 deg. The battery started at 30 deg and reached 34.2 during the benchmark and didn't really drop down to 30 degrees after that.
I am a little surprised that there is no CPU temp apps on the market, with fancy graphs and stuff. Come on, devs, we don't care about battery temp. Tap into that CPU sensor, dang it!
Not Hell Yet!

I was in my first meeting using my new Note 10.1 2014 edition and I noticed that it felt warm. I had the previous note 10.1 and never noticed it even getting warm. Is there an app that I use that will give me the temperature to post?
Doc
Same issue here from Spain. Its seems is for every Note.
Be careful, I know someone who broke his Note by playing like for 3 hours to Real Racing 3. The Note was extremly hot and it died. Model was a Black LTE Snapdragon.

Was that a Note 3 that he broke? I was unaware the LTE Note 10.1 (2014) was released yet.
I just got that Real Racing 3 game and was going to play it. I will check my CPU temps after playing for awhile, though it's a little inaccurate since the CPU probably drops a couple degrees in the amount of time it takes to switch to Trickster Mod to check the CPU temp. I wish the FPS Meter screen overlay could show temps, kind of like EVGA Precision does for PC users, or I wish there was a CPU temp graphing application, or any app that keeps a min & max of CPU temp. Unfortunately, there isn't jack out there for CPU temp, but there are tons of apps that do stuff with your BATTERY temp. Who cares about battery?
UPDATE: I'm seeing 69°C and 70°C when playing games like Kingdom Rush & Real Racing 3. A tad on the warm side, but acceptable for me. I do have a case on the tablet, so that might make a little difference. It drops to 50° after about 10 seconds, then eventually down to 39°.
Compared it to my Galaxy S4, but I don't have those games on my S4 so I opened GTA3 & Block Story and checked the temps and saw 62°C. The Note probably gets a little hotter, but this test wasn't that long so take it with a grain of salt.
