Unable to update OTA. - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone used to be rooted, but I unrooted it by using the app Universal Unroot a few days ago. It semms to have done its job; all the apps that require root access started crying for the access. I tried to update my phone OTA, but when I clicked update, it says "Your phone has been modified. Software updates are not available." How can I get it back to normal?
Thanks in advance.

Do u reset your binary count ? Reboot your phone to download mode and check the binary if it 0 or anything else
If its 1 or more you need triangle away from playstore

Weird problem, please help.

I bought my note 2 directly frome a T Mobile store. I've never rooted my phone. But when I try to upgrade to the new version, it's said my phone has been modified. Please help me to fix this, anyone?

But when I use Root Checker, it said my phone is not properly rooted. What does that mean?

Did you install the ExynosAbuse apk ? This will root your phone and possibly show up as modified.
No I didn't. I tried it via Kies but it still failed. I am resetting to manufacturer setting. Will see what happens next.

Device modified

So after the multi Window update, never have rooted, my device status reads modified, wtf!

boot into stock recovery / factory reset ( you will loose your data setup )
You don't need to do any boot into recovery stuff. I get this message every now and again (bone stock). Just reboot your phone and it's gone for a while.
Apparently Samsung is hyper-sensitive about their file system and if the root checker gets even slightly tripped, you get this message. Just do a simple reboot and it fixes it.
Did you disable any default apps ?
It happened with me too and was fixed by resetting to factory defaults which was annoying.
Also memory cards are suspected to change device status, check this thread.

I just got this phone today and I had the same problem, what I did was remove the memory card and reboot the phone, after this my device status was normal and I was able to update the phone.

Rooting disabled updates

Hi to all of you. I have rooted my phone and now when I try to run software update I get the message that the phone was modified. How can I get the previous stage so I could have updates available again? I have tried to un install SuperSU but this does not solves my problem.
Please let me know what kind of other details you would need from me so you could identify what went wrong and try to diagnose my issue.
Huge thanks in advance

If you download and run triangle away then factory reset your status will return to normal and you can get updates. If you download an update you will probably lose root

Did anyone successfully used OTA rootkeeper

With latest update from T-mobile? Any specific steps needs to be taken?

I did. Just installed the app. Clicked the button in the app, did the ota update, went back into the app, clicked restore root, rebooted the phone et voila.

DID the ota update? How did you do this since the system becomes modified and therefore will no longer check for a system update??????

Worked for me. I kept it from going modified between updates. Strangely enough it went modified the reboot prior to the ota.
I just went into supersu and had it forget all the root assignments then rebooted twice to clear the modified status back to normal.
OTA Rootkeeper saved supersu. Ota went without a hitch. Restored supersu with rootkeeper and the living is easy.
YMMV
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement
It didn't work for me after updated with Kies, but Imanaged to regain root with CF auto root.
Ok. Tried myself. OTA successful, baseband upgraded and looks like root preserved. Device status after ota uptate shows modified.

I'm showing the same status as well - Modified. I try taking out the sd card and reboot, but still the same status.

Even though the update is quick I think you may need at least 50% battery etc, did you try Settings->About device->Software update plugged in?
