I would like to get the gs3 but would like to know some things before i get it....Will the at&t version of the gs3 work if i have straight talk on t-mobile's network?
The at&t S3 (i747) is a GSM phone so it will work on both straight talk and t-mobile. You will just have to add in the correct apns
thanx

No problemo. I'm sure you understand you won't see LTE (unless you're in one of t-mobile's few areas). Cheers, buddy
It'll work but I think that you'll only get EDGE speeds. I just ordered a straight talk T-Mobile sim and will be here tomorrow so I'll let you know if I'm right or wrong.
No, he will get 3G and HSPA+
ok i look forward to the feedback thanks

I activated it earlier today and I have a 'g' symbol instead of the regular 4G I would always see. So I'm guessing that's EDGE?

Hello all,
Long story short I'm trading my Galaxy Nexus for a T-Mobile SGS3 and I want to know if the phone can be unlocked and function on the att network, data and all. I've seen some discussion about the unlocking process and it involves unlock code websites that seem sketchy. I've also seen some talk of T-Mobile giving out the codes, but I'm not sure how I would go about that given I have no affiliation with T-Mobile. Are there any methods for unlocking on the forums that I am missing. I would really appreciate some direction, because there doesn't seem to be one preferred direction or source for the unlock.
Thanks!

Newer device, worth more money. Better processor, more RAM, larger screen, bigger battery.
Best bet is find a website or use eBay to get the unlock code.
If you set up the apn correctly everything will work with att, even data.

Yes, it works
I unlocked my through t-mobile. Just call them, let them know you're traveling overseas the following day and need to sim unlock the phone. I've done this a countless number of times to unlock my phones.
Afterwards put your new sim in and punch in the proper APN settings:

Its an amazing trade. The Gnex is way behind. CPU, GPU, ram, camera, screen quality (S3 screen is better, look it up if you don't believe me), battery life is superior, and is a better phone in every way hardware wise.
I had the Gnex before.

From what I can tell, this fall should be a great season for new phones. LG is releasing a bunch of top notch devices, and I think Sony is too. There is more info on phandroid. I can't really speak on which will end up with T-mobile, but they've been pretty good lately about acquiring the flagship devices.
I love the GNex, it is fast and incredibly smooth with CM10. I think it's more out of boredom and phone whoring that I am searching for a new phone. The GNex meets and exceeds my needs, I just want to try the S3 too.
Yeah I just saw this a couple of hours ago.

I just went through with the trade. Data and all other network activities are working fine, I got the trader to call T-mo and ask for an unlock code. I'm running a CM10 build, but for whatever reason it's not as smooth as my Gnex was. The home screen is choppy and some activities lag. I'm hoping that the newer nightlies will fix this. The camera is nicer, the screen is about the same.
I'm kinda torn. I loved how open the Nexus was, there were so many options for customization. I have to be much more careful picking things out to flash here, especially considering that I'm on the ATT network with a non-ATT phone.
Overall I like it, but I think I was happier with my nexus.

I read it wrong.
The Verizon note 2 supports gsm bands for international (an maybe sone day domestic) roaming. Getting the radio/modem to fly however would likely be a challenge.
I am pretty sure it doesn't go the other way. There are a couple of folks who swear that the hardware is totally identical between the US carriers Note2 devices.
I can't say I agree but im not in a position to be absolutely certain.

It seems to be looking that way, I'm just not sure if the fast.t-mobile.com apn is required for LTE or not. I get no data when I try to switch to it.
The t mobile apn is working on my phone but I can't send mms. I m going to add the solavei mmsc setting to tmobile later and try it
While out last nite I got great speeds using the old modem on my solavei apn
And I got equal result with the new modem and the same apn and the new tmobile one
However, I did on one of my tests with the fast.t-mobile setting get an instant 14mbps. I spend a good 80mb on speed tests lol
I'm in Los Angeles. I move all around from the Valley to long Beach. My service is consistently good.

I think where you change the apn, you will need to change the "MMSC" to "http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc". you will find that exactly on the original epc.tmobile.com apn. This is only if you are using t-mobile, if not, then you might need to do the same thing from the original apn.

What does seem better is how fast the speed ramps up to 15mbps (which is the speed Solavei as a MVNO is throttled to)

However, when I pop my AT&T sim, I can only get 4g. The At&t sim is provisioned for lte, as it gets lte on my iphone5. I have tried various apn settings, the network selection menu also. Make sure you give ATT an LTE capable phone's IMEI and that it is registered to their network. You can just go to the ATT store and use the IMEI of any of their LTE capable phones.
I've been doing some research on buying a At&t sim to test to see if my phone is truly unlocked. I've read At&t has 2 separate types of SIM. One for iPhone and one for the other phones. It's possible you have a sim card meant for only iPhones and At&t's system will only acknowledge the LTE if it was an iPhone (or something like that). Try going into a At&t store and have them make it work for you.

At&t has all of the t mobile m919 imeis stored in their system. I did not get lte when I first popped my sim in because I was still set on the iPhone 5 lte plan. Called at&t gave them the t mobile s4 imei, she switched my plan and 10 minutes later I speed tested at 17mbps down.

I called and gave then my imei but my speeds are still 3-5 Mbps on LTE and 5-9 on h+ and if they don't improve I'm switching to straight talk att Sim which is higher on h+ but cheaper a month.the only thing I can think that's happening is LTE was berly released here and there still working on getting all things right

Finally got my speeds after one hour with customer service it seems that they got my imei wrong now getting 30mbps download

I have a T Mobile Galaxy s4 m919. I got an Straight Talk ATT SIM card. I put the apn settings that Straight Talk gave and everything worked fine except for receiving mms pictures. I tired various settings and nothing worked. I called Straight Talk and that did not help. Finally I decide to try one more thing. I did a complete factory restore and reinterred the Apn settings that Straight Talk gave me; mms started working. I guess there were some settings that were blocking the S.T. Apn settings and the factory restore fixed the problem. I hope this helps.
Why are you using St and att services do you not have tmobile Lte where you live? I don't have tmobile Lte where I live it sucks.lol I was thinking about getting net 10's unlimited plan for I can get Lte service at home.Isnt net 10 and St the same company? Who would you recommend me using in my tmobile Gs4 for Lte service st, net10 or att? Where and how much did you pay for your sim card.Isnt att totally unlimited plan cost $60 a month with 2 Gigs of data and St & net10 cost $45 a month with 2.5 Gigs of data? Do it matter where you live at in the u.s. for as far as how good your data speeds will be? I'm rooted with tmobiles stock 4.3 rom and my Gs4 is unlocked.I would greatly appreciate any information you can give me to my questions. Thanks

I don't have t mobile lte where I live. I paid 6.95 for the sim through Walmart and pay 45 plus tax for unlimited talk and text with 2 gig of data. Net 10 and straight talk are owned by tracfone, so go with straight talk and get the att4g lte sim. My speeds, I can't answer because att has 4 g speeds in my town and with t mobile I had 2g or edge speeds.
So I had a stock 4.3 mk6 then I decided to root and unlock my phone for the T-Mobile network. When I Odin back to 4.1.1 I unlocked everything went smooth and I did the aws mod, and was getting LTE with T-Mobile. So then I root it again Odin the 4.3 param. Tz to flash a 4.3 ROM. After the flash I don't get LTE no more. Went back to 4.1.1 to see if I would get it nothing again. So now I'm stuck with 4G and haven't gotten LTE since the first time I unlocked it.
So anybody know how to get T-Mobile LTE back on my AT&T note 2.?

Check the Phone status for a true indication of your connection. Depending on which ROM you flashed the icons will vary. Some of the ROMs that are N7105-based show 4G but mean LTE.

Yeah I do it only says HSPA no LTE. And In notifications it goes from h to h+ never 4g and I have DN3 ROM right now. With mk6 modem with no AWS mod.
Guessing you have the proper APN set? I get LTE on both epc.tmobile.com and fast.tmobile.com. Running SkyNote Air with AWS Mod.

Which modem do you have as well?
Yeah I got the proper apn both tried. Did you use 4.3 param tz file or devils kernel.
So I'm at mk6 modem applied the AWS Mod and it keeps bouncing from 3g to h+ on my DN3 ROM.. And it says UMTS network no LTE :-[

DN3 Rom is based, off of the N7105 NOTE 2 that's the reason you don't see LTE. If you see 4G that means LTE in this ROM. I am also using this ROM with at&t and whenever I get LTE speed it shows 4G.
You can change it by changing your build prop setting to get lte. But if you do then your contacts will force close and I also read in DN3 thread that you will lose your phone app/dialer and have to use play store dialer.

Yeah for dn3 if it shows 4g it is lte. Because of the ROM's data icons being international. Mine is just showing h to h+. :-[

That 4g icon on the DN3 is LTE. It's that way because it's based off of the international firmware...
Just a reminder you can check you LTE connection by going to:
Setting, General, about phone, status, check connection there.

Check APN settings. Also, do you have Network Mode as "LTE/WCDMA/GSM". Even I was not getting LTE initially but then I tried different APN settings and finally I am getting LTE.
