I read it wrong.
The Verizon note 2 supports gsm bands for international (an maybe sone day domestic) roaming. Getting the radio/modem to fly however would likely be a challenge.
I am pretty sure it doesn't go the other way. There are a couple of folks who swear that the hardware is totally identical between the US carriers Note2 devices.
I can't say I agree but im not in a position to be absolutely certain.

Nothing to do with flashing radios
Right out of the box its factory sim unlocked for gsm of your choice
Tmobiles 1900 band actually is everywhere and it is 3g h+ back and forth on the vzw note 2
I just went from vzw iphone 5 to the vzw note and I get 3g 10-14xmg download speeds from both

Are you sure you're using the T-Mobile LTE APN? I'm pretty sure the standard connectivity speed for T-Mobile is 14 Mbps. Any incorrect or unknown APN will also be routed directly to the network's default, so it would help to know exactly which setting you are using.

Unfortunately that's just Dual HSPA+
You will see "4G LTE" instead of just "4G" on the top of your notification when it's enabled in your area. I'm keeping my fingers crossed also. When LTE is working you will also see a big difference with your upload speed as well.

How much has the speed increased by the LTE thing? Like before and after updating APN thing.
just alter the stock t-mobile APN name
APN
fast.t-mobile.com
THIS ONLY WORKS WITH THE NEW MODEM THAT WAS RELEASE ON 3.18.2013
i don't know if this is giving a faster speed than my Solavei APN. but i will test it for the rest of the day and let you know what i notice.

It seems to be looking that way, I'm just not sure if the fast.t-mobile.com apn is required for LTE or not. I get no data when I try to switch to it.
The t mobile apn is working on my phone but I can't send mms. I m going to add the solavei mmsc setting to tmobile later and try it
While out last nite I got great speeds using the old modem on my solavei apn
And I got equal result with the new modem and the same apn and the new tmobile one
However, I did on one of my tests with the fast.t-mobile setting get an instant 14mbps. I spend a good 80mb on speed tests lol
I'm in Los Angeles. I move all around from the Valley to long Beach. My service is consistently good.
I'm sticking with the new modem and my solavei apn for now because I use mms for work

I believe straight talk offers service from both AT&T and T-Mobile. When you purchased your SIM, if you chose the option for T-Mobile, the new apn should work. Do you recall who's service you chose?

I think where you change the apn, you will need to change the "MMSC" to "http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc". you will find that exactly on the original epc.tmobile.com apn. This is only if you are using t-mobile, if not, then you might need to do the same thing from the original apn.

Changing to this APN from the others result in no speed change for me (as expected)
What does seem better is how fast the speed ramps up to 15mbps (which is the speed Solavei as a MVNO is throttled to)
I don't use MMS (I purely use google voice for SMS)

Changing the APN (Access Point Name) won't make tethering "work". There are strings in the framework that need to be modified for it to work without getting cut off. Believe me I know, I had the fix in my ROM for the Note 2. The guy above is posting from outside the USA/T-Mobile with an Xperia lol.

I had used APN backup & restore on both S3 and Note 2. Hopefully, its dev will be able to setup an APN that will work with the S$.
Note - it will only work on 3/4 G, so you would loose LTE after restoring modified tethering APN, so you would have to backup the LTE APN and then restore it when you want to go back to using LTE.
There is no unlimited mobile hotspot yet, until then, you can call T-Mobile and they have free tethering for up to 500Mb until someone can unlock it for us.

Same problem without rooting
Guys,
I just bought the At&t version of S4, got an unlock code for Sim and put in the nano T-mobile sim, all was good, got 4G internet from T-mobile and made calls. Tried to turn on my hotspot feature from the phone itself because T-mobile hotspot is free up to a limit.
Was not able to turn it on, it kept going to the off position with the error "MOBILE DATA IS NOT AVAILABLE OR INVALID SIM".
Of course I had my wifi connection off and had 4G connection from T-mobile. Got off with t-mobile customer service and got their APN settings, was nothing to change.
Yet my own samsung hotspot feature doesn't turn on. I think samsung has turned off this feature in US versions of S4, so even if you root, you wouldn't be able to get hotspot on.
At least that is my two sense on this matter. IF any body knows how to rectify this issue, please help.

It's saying invalid, because the strings in the framework point to an AT&T APN. Once again.....the strings will need to be changed for this to work.
I know that this method works with any plan, because I had the android preferred (5gb no tethering for $20) and now have the truly unlimited; and the method I speak of works on both.

From what I gather from the thread, I don't think that your phone is blacklisted.
Who is your service provider? T-mobile.
Enter *#06#.
The IMEI will be displayed.
The link below allows you to verify whether or not your imei is valid on the T-mobile network.

From what you find, you can do a few things. Please post your results.

I'm assuming that your phone model is the SGH-T889 T-mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 2.
So, you need address why you are getting Edge Only. I bet that the NV Build is corrupt OR you
need to reflash your modem.
Here is how to proceed if your NV Build is corrupt.
On December 28, 2012, Darkshado[w] posted a full NV backup for the T889, IMEI removed, at the following thread: http://50.23.216.69/showthread.php?t=2068041&page=2
Using "NV-items reader_writer v1.0," write to the device with the corrected IMEI using the file from Darkshado[w] as a template (replacing the memory block decimal address 550 with your hex equivalent IMEI). If the NV Build is corrupt, this approach should resolve this issue.
Otherwise, I would try to reflash the modem, which modem is dependent of course on your STOCK ROM version that you currently have installed.
Go to dialer and hit *#2263# it will allow you to choose from gsm wcdma and lte if you like your hspa use the wcdma and go to all or 1900

You shouldn't have to.. Check your APN to make sure you are using the lte APN.. Delete any other apns and reboot

Rom had nothing to do with your data connection. Have you checked to make sure T-Mobile has deployed LTE in your area yet?

Check the IMEI number in settings. Is it zero? If so, pm me. If not try flashing my T999L rom in dev section. Rom only! Doubt it'll help, but worth a try?? Up to you...
