Ubuntu touch. - Sprint LG Optimus G

So I'm not sure but do we have any restrictions with aosp and drivers?, The reason why is I'd like to try and build Ubuntu touch for our LG OG.
Also I haven't tried anything like this and maybe would like some help from anyone willing to help.

They're close to getting Data working for GSM devices, so CDMA will likely be soon after. Canonical says it should be a daily driver (IE: most peripherals working) by the end of the month.

It's a completely different experience. Different OS. It's like comparing ios and windows with android.
The main advantage to this though is that it is a bit easier for devs who have android app building experience to port their apps and even develop for.
It's one step closer to getting ubuntus name out there on the level of compition windows and mac have had for so long. The biggest step so far has been steam support for it's desktop version. Windows games are flooding in. Imagine this kind of support on a mobile device. Ubuntu has said that soon the same apps could be used cross platform desktop<-->mobile.
Sent from my HTCONE using xda premium

Another advantage is that officially supported quad-core phones will have Ubuntu Desktop as an option when connecting to an external display.

No android and Ubuntu are 2 different things. They are both Linux but different. The good think about Ubuntu OS is that it runs with arm hardware that's present in android meaning that android phones should be able to run it. I'll be waiting for it to hit and get ported to a bunch of android devices. It will run gloriously on existing android and our s3 once ported. But all we do noe is sit back, enjoy our phones and just wait

MIUI user friendly? For US users? Visit the miui thread in the original dev section. That's not the case at all any more... Not to mention miui is old news and nowhere near as customizable as aokp.

Definitely looking forward to this. It also states in the articles that it is the full blown operating system obviously customized appropriately for the interface but I'm looking forward to a full set of terminal commands instead of a condensed busy box.
One of the articles I think pointed to a Nexus in the next few weeks having a download available...not sure if that's true but I'm hoping our famous XDA devs can snag that and work their magic.

Petition to XDA to approach Canonical?
What I would like to see is to see what the interest of the developers at XDA to get their hands on the Ubuntu for Android or the Ubuntu OS for the phones, and then create a petition for XDA to get in contact with Canonical see if there is a possibility to get the XDA developers involved in the forming of Ubuntu OS for the mobile. Just imagine what that could do to help getting Ubuntu out there for mobile devices. I mean. I'm pretty sure we have a bunch of power users out there that would like to beta test it for Canonical.

Most definitely not. I used to own a number of Apple products. Their iOS setup blows. It was amazing 7 years ago or whenever the first iOS device came out, but not anymore. The only thing I still like about my old Apple devices is the click wheel for my first gen iPod Nano. Sadly though, there was a recall on them, but I got a higher capacity new one.

If you are using this as a phone, you need CDMA to work. Otherwise, Call, Data, and Text will not work. EvDO and LTE also do not work, so you will have no service.

Canonical is also based in the UK, so CDMA will likely not be prioritized as it will be harder for them to test since they don't have access to it unless they partner with Sprint, Verizon, or another CDMA carrier.

Got a thread going right here, and there is already someone taking a stab at it. Come on over and help support an amazing OS, an amazing phone, and the hard work the devs put into porting something like this.

[Q] [REQUEST] [POLL] Ubuntu touch port for LS970

I also posted this in the Ubuntu touch thread located here
The LG Optimus G would be a great phone to port Ubuntu onto. It has the same specs as the Nexus 4, same CPU, same amount of RAM, heck the're even the same size, in fact they even share the same code name "mako". The only major difference is that the Optimus G LS970 is a CDMA phone as it is on sprint.
If anyone is willing to port Ubuntu to the LS970 they would go down as legendary (at least in my book), this is such an awesome phone, with the same specs as the nexus 4, yet it barely gets any attention from ROM developers. I had to dig just to find CM 10.1 for this thing. It's such a shame.
I can tell you from what I have learned researching this phone, you can basically use a nexus rom on it, except 2 key differences;
1. I have been told that the nexus and Optimus G store the ROM on the NAND in slightly different ways, but seems to be a minor change from what I've read.
2. The LS970 uses a CDMA radio instead of GSM.
Seeing how we already have Ubuntu phone for the nexus 4 it shouldn't be to hard for someone to bring it over to the Optimus G LS970.
I would take a stab at it myself, but I wouldn't even know where to begin.
If anyone would be willing to take a stab at this it would be awesome. Ubuntu touch is no longer just a mock up, its actually functional at this point, I know a few people who use it daily.
currently use Linux on android it runs great but it does have a few hiccups but i would love to see this ported over
I've been barking up this tree for a little bit.
Many people haven't tried Ubuntu Touch 13.10 and still think the whole thing is a mock up still.
I use it as my daily driver on my Nexus 7(Original) and love it.
Hacking Ubuntu Touch to modify the UI or perform not-yet-implemented tasks or features is easy, fun, and feels awesome.
I would like to see this ported over, even if ofono doesn't support CDMA yet.

It's almost done building I think. Should be ready when I get home. I tried porting from the N4 awhile back, but I guess this only works from source.

iOS based Rom idea..?

Hi, I came from an iPhone 4, and I want to make an iOS based Rom. Probably iOS 6? I switched to android because of ios 7 lol. If anyone could comment, or pm me with any ideas. That would be much appreciated!
Also thought about an iMessage port with the Rom, I figured it could be spoofed with apples servers..

So Much better for the lgog. Trust me,some phones love CWM like the photon but most in my tiny opinion work better and team win updates better and faster than cwm. All you have to do is use good manager click on the three little dots in the top right hand corner and hit open recovery script and it would do it for you, very very very easy

If iOS were that easy to decode then every bootloader for every iOS device would be unlocked and you would have jailbreaks within a day after each official release. The fact it takes 6-8 months now should tell you how much protection iOS has

That only worked because the a4 processors bootloader and below was successfully decoded. Once that happened easy peasy. But decoding the entire iOS source code?

I think, things will be slowly added into a flashable zip. I figure decrypting a CDMA iphone 4S ipsw would be appropriate.

You would have to write the phone drivers you're self, IPhone 4 drivers and hardware are nothing like the LS970, Which would mean even if you happened to decrypt the entire package and put out .img files (assuming thats the format they chose), If you flash it, you will brick your phone. You would honestly be better off re-writing iOS from scratch.

There are tons of things to allow the look and feel of iOS on Android.
The Android community has lots of problems porting Android OS's to Android Devices as it is because of closed source drivers. There's no reason to get your hopes up on attempting to port a completely closed source OS to a non-apple device. No disrespect or harm intended, it isn't impossible but the way to do it isnt by trying to decrypt packages. The only way I see this happening is to just start writing a new OS based on the ideas iOS has present and how it runs it apps.

Usually, unless its the GSM Galaxy Nexus or the Nexus 4, there's not too much development for Ubuntu Touch, mostly WIP that have a lot of issue with so many different phones. It looks pretty cool, but it seems like it's not as high priority as getting 4.3.1 roms out there.
dank dropped the project. i might be able to get it up and running eventually but as of right now i wouldn't expect too much. Maybe we could get a team set up to work on this? Obviously you'd need to have porting experience. Or we could just start up a thread and get the community working together on it. It seems as though there's a lot of demand for it just not enough work going into it.
That would be awesome, I was so excited for ubuntu. I don't have any porting or dev experience so idont think I could contribute that much but getting a team together sounds awesome!
