Hi, I came from an iPhone 4, and I want to make an iOS based Rom. Probably iOS 6? I switched to android because of ios 7 lol. If anyone could comment, or pm me with any ideas. That would be much appreciated!
Also thought about an iMessage port with the Rom, I figured it could be spoofed with apples servers..
About me: I have a Sprint LG Optimus G
Rooted, and unlocked with CWM.
Very little experience working with Roms, a bit of experience in the iOS Jailbreak scene.
I'm not trying to dual boot iOS.

I know back in the CM7 days there was a ROM called JoyOS. It functioned like Miui but it was completely themed to be like iOS5/6. Dunno if that's still an active ROM project or not, though.

I mean...to each their own...but why get an android phone just to run iOS, or something similar on it? Totally defeats the purpose of having an android phone in the first place. Which is why I never understood why people liked Muiu (sp).
But anyway, that's just my own person opinion and you're totally entitled to use your own phone in whichever way you please.

I have one suggestion(off topic sorry) I have a Ton of exp with the LGOG,(my thread helped nickname it and I OC the camera to the point where LG contacted me asking me how I did it) I'm so not bragging(though proud Lmao) just wanted you to know I know what I'm talking about and I would suggest you use team win recovery project(twrp) and not clockworkmod. So Much better for the lgog. Trust me,some phones love CWM like the photon but most in my tiny opinion work better and team win updates better and faster than cwm. All you have to do is use good manager click on the three little dots in the top right hand corner and hit open recovery script and it would do it for you, very very very easy

Pretty sure its impossible. iOS is closed source. MIUI is pretty much as close as you can get to iOS on an Android device. There are iOS themes available all over for instance here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=np5Rls-AneA

If iOS were that easy to decode then every bootloader for every iOS device would be unlocked and you would have jailbreaks within a day after each official release. The fact it takes 6-8 months now should tell you how much protection iOS has

You would have to write the phone drivers you're self, IPhone 4 drivers and hardware are nothing like the LS970, Which would mean even if you happened to decrypt the entire package and put out .img files (assuming thats the format they chose), If you flash it, you will brick your phone. You would honestly be better off re-writing iOS from scratch.
MIUI, Buzz Launcher, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shere.easycontroller
There are tons of things to allow the look and feel of iOS on Android.
The Android community has lots of problems porting Android OS's to Android Devices as it is because of closed source drivers. There's no reason to get your hopes up on attempting to port a completely closed source OS to a non-apple device. No disrespect or harm intended, it isn't impossible but the way to do it isnt by trying to decrypt packages. The only way I see this happening is to just start writing a new OS based on the ideas iOS has present and how it runs it apps.

No android and Ubuntu are 2 different things. They are both Linux but different. The good think about Ubuntu OS is that it runs with arm hardware that's present in android meaning that android phones should be able to run it. I'll be waiting for it to hit and get ported to a bunch of android devices. It will run gloriously on existing android and our s3 once ported. But all we do noe is sit back, enjoy our phones and just wait

Definitely looking forward to this. It also states in the articles that it is the full blown operating system obviously customized appropriately for the interface but I'm looking forward to a full set of terminal commands instead of a condensed busy box.
One of the articles I think pointed to a Nexus in the next few weeks having a download available...not sure if that's true but I'm hoping our famous XDA devs can snag that and work their magic.

Petition to XDA to approach Canonical?
What I would like to see is to see what the interest of the developers at XDA to get their hands on the Ubuntu for Android or the Ubuntu OS for the phones, and then create a petition for XDA to get in contact with Canonical see if there is a possibility to get the XDA developers involved in the forming of Ubuntu OS for the mobile. Just imagine what that could do to help getting Ubuntu out there for mobile devices. I mean. I'm pretty sure we have a bunch of power users out there that would like to beta test it for Canonical.

Most definitely not. I used to own a number of Apple products. Their iOS setup blows. It was amazing 7 years ago or whenever the first iOS device came out, but not anymore. The only thing I still like about my old Apple devices is the click wheel for my first gen iPod Nano. Sadly though, there was a recall on them, but I got a higher capacity new one.

We have ics and ics source. No one wants to waste time making ics aosp when jb has been out going on a year soon.
They just got source for the Korean jb version of our phone this week. They are working on it but it has some differences.
None of the phones are the same. Different cameras, radios, nfc chips, modems....

Love this phone, love the hardware, but we've been hearing it's coming "soon" for months now. LG either did this on purpose, or miraculously made this the hardest phone to develop for. I'm now regretting switching away from Samsung...who seems to be much more in tune with the Dev community and providing what's needed to let developers have their way with the phones. I wish LG would get it together and give the dev's what they need.

Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
I swear I am not trolling.
But you said your happy you got rid of the BlackBerry and I on the other hand really want to check out the new bb10. I don't think I will buy it. As much as it has to offer it still won't compare. It does feel a niche in the community.
I think it will do well in the older market (30+ professional outside of IT). There is also a tremendous gap now in phone sizes. The only phone with a halfway normal size seems to be the iPhone and most of us still assume the phone as trendy and a fancy feature phone. Not a mini laptop like the Android.
And the reason we want JB is a lot of us downgraded on the software to get a phone with superior hardware. Furthermore, most of us thought the software would catch up sooner than it has. ICS is great but it is like the first production year of a new model of car. Jelly Bean is more refined. There are also additions in performance, battery life, smoothness, and apps.
For example, my wife's phone will tell her what the expected drive time is to work. She didn't program it. It just knows do to her normal schedule. ICS is great software. JB brings with it the very early stages of AI that adapts to your needs.
Just think what Key Lime will bring us. Eventually it will be so advanced it will go one of two ways. One, to hard to develop. Or the other which I hope for, full integration. The software will know what screen you have and radio you use. You just install and go. We won't have to count in manufacturers to release the source. The software will adapt for your nfc chip and gpu.
I honestly don't know why it has taken so long already. The SOC should do a simple handshake with the OS and be in its way.
Um, what was I taking about.

From an update standpiont, yes, Moto bites. From a general software standpoint, LG is the worst of the big names. Their OTA's run more like alphas, maybe betas. Have yet to see an LG without major software mistakes and I've worked on a fair number of them.
That being said, I know as soon as JB source drops joker, th3bill and myself are going to try to get as far away from LG's code as possible. This is mainly for our sanity.

Correct. Once Sprint JB source drops (hopefully after my move) I want to get all the devs together and go over how to approach future ROMs. I see a stock based, aosp and N4 based. Also see hybrids of all three as well as ports like Paranoid at that point.
I know we all have our strong and week points and think we should build off that for the end users. How is everybody doing for web space and domains? After the move I plan to restructure/rebuild Martian Imperium as a more multi-dev website and already have some folks on board for the change.
So I'm not sure but do we have any restrictions with aosp and drivers?, The reason why is I'd like to try and build Ubuntu touch for our LG OG.
Also I haven't tried anything like this and maybe would like some help from anyone willing to help.

It's a completely different experience. Different OS. It's like comparing ios and windows with android.
The main advantage to this though is that it is a bit easier for devs who have android app building experience to port their apps and even develop for.
It's one step closer to getting ubuntus name out there on the level of compition windows and mac have had for so long. The biggest step so far has been steam support for it's desktop version. Windows games are flooding in. Imagine this kind of support on a mobile device. Ubuntu has said that soon the same apps could be used cross platform desktop<-->mobile.
Sent from my HTCONE using xda premium
Another advantage is that officially supported quad-core phones will have Ubuntu Desktop as an option when connecting to an external display.

Tasker is way to complicated. Looks interesting though!

It's not that bad just has a learning curve. Llama is a simpler version but less powerful. Has about half the things you can do and there's another app similar I just don't like the interface its called e-robot give that one a try you might like it. It's a simpler interface then tasker but I'm just used to tasker.

Don't hold anything on lg doing a update.. They are the sorriest excuse for supporting there device... Notice I said they are not about!!! Its sad to because there devices are starting to be very nice. But if you can't support or even remotely try to update them what's the point of making it.. just find my thread on the open source and look at the delay on response for simple questions.. lol took days ......

Well it took Samsung about 8 months to release Jelly Bean on the S3. So really they are all pretty bad with updates and most of that could be blamed on the carrier.
If you want immediate updates though, you have to go with Nexus.

thats not entirely true for the s3. it wasnt 8 mnths, it was like 5 - 6 mths. plus they released a couple of non-JB updates during that time before the official JB was released.
to suggest that we all drop the OGP for the nexus just for updates is a bit ignorant.
Ask and you shall receive

G2 is the last LG phone I think I'll purchase. Funny, I've only owned 3 of them, Nexus 4, LGOG, and now the Lg Pro. Lol, so technically 2 and I'm already tired of the company.

I respectfully disagree. I mean this phone came to usa in mid may to june. And in less than 2 months the value update!
I mean seriously is that not good enough?
Yes the value pack was available for korean version earlier than that but again the phone was available there first.
4.2 & 4.3 for what? its the same stuff. I was hoping from google to released a full new revamp android version..but i feel like 4.2 & 4.3 are just maintenance update to patch stuff. Yes a few things here & there...but that's it.
Now the developer support for this phone has been a little slow. But unfortunately this phone is at&t exclusive witch is stupid move from LG.
But i will buy this phone again no doubt.
I wish the camera software was better. The camera has a lot of potential but the software is not there yet.

Usually, unless its the GSM Galaxy Nexus or the Nexus 4, there's not too much development for Ubuntu Touch, mostly WIP that have a lot of issue with so many different phones. It looks pretty cool, but it seems like it's not as high priority as getting 4.3.1 roms out there.
dank dropped the project. i might be able to get it up and running eventually but as of right now i wouldn't expect too much. Maybe we could get a team set up to work on this? Obviously you'd need to have porting experience. Or we could just start up a thread and get the community working together on it. It seems as though there's a lot of demand for it just not enough work going into it.
That would be awesome, I was so excited for ubuntu. I don't have any porting or dev experience so idont think I could contribute that much but getting a team together sounds awesome!
