Yes, Galaxy Note 8.0 is coming with Qi Inductive Wireless Charging. Without including wireless charging in Note 8.0 its too difficult for Samsung to compete with iPad mini.

Please cite where you have found this? I have seen early anecdotes about it, but Samsung does not mention it in the literature, and on the support site, they outright deny it.
I'd like to see that as well.

OMG.. !!
ok i admit my mistake.. actually i got this info from an un-reliable website..
http://www.christianpost.com/news/g...ng-with-wireless-charging-capabilities-91624/
"Galaxy Note 8 Release Announced Along With Wireless Charging Capabilities"
But if you read the article, it's actually about 2 separate topics:
1) the release of the Note 8
2) wireless charging for the S4.
The headline's puzzling, granted.
Anybody find a definitive answer on this?
I was looking at this take apart video, but still can't tell if the areas covered with electrical tape on the back cover actually have Qi wireless charing connectors:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UeWDLq6_BU
I was going to purchase a wireless charger, just to see if it would work, but I'd rather get a definitive answer before purchasing a product that won't do me any good.
I use Qi charging on my Nexus 4. I am getting my Note 8.0 tonight and will test it out. For some reason I was under the impression that the Note 8.0 did note come with wireless charging capability. If it works I will post a pic.

The company that did the teardown confirmed that there's no qi wireless charging:
http://androidforums.com/samsung-ga...uide-take-apart-instructions.html#post5931717
I didn't examine the teardown completely enough to even see if there were pins to add it though.
Would love if someone would take high resolution photos during a teardown or repair. Really curious as to what's behind that tape. What's more interesting as of now is whether there is space for a wireless charging mod and somewhere on the motherboard we could connect to.

I had seen that but those pics are not nearly detailed enough to be useful for this. I was thinking more so shots that show components of the motherboard in detail. Ones that could help with finding whether there are power contacts to allow for an inductive charging mod. Especially now that wireless charging kits are now sold by adafruit.

Sorry to necrobump, but I've been looking into modding in inductive support. Found these teardown images that might be relevant.
You can see that the USB port has a casing over it. If that casing is removeable then I imagine we'd be in business. Removing the back cover is pretty standard. Get your prying tool (or guitar pick for the mcgyvers) and go around the device popping the clips.

I took a better shot of the area in question.
I'm curious whether the two contact points, which I outlined in red, are charging pads. They are placed conveniently in between the connection to the USB board and the battery connector. The traces also appear to connect to the power regulator.

This is a fork of the original N7100 Note 2 wireless mod thread found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951493
The purpose of this thread is to determine why the wireless charging pins on the T-Mobile Galaxy Note 2 (SGH-T889) are not working after installing the MOD above.
Please view the thread above for more details about the original MOD, and to see what you need to do first in order to continue with the work around below.
Updated method on 8-5-2013: Thanks to SGBE
The updated method has a better solder point. See that thread OVER HERE.
Results:
The Work Around: (verified working on multiple devices)
We have a mod to make wifi charging work! Regardless if the T-Mobile GN2 is missing hardware or not, the work-around is a low cost (free?) alternative to get wifi charging working. Our work around involves soldering a small wire to a tiny point on the micro usb board. You should be able to solder a very small connection (about the size of a pen tip) before attempting this. The mod/workaround below is verified working with the stock charger and stock kernel. <- Pay attention to that last bit.
Workaround Known Issues:
Some kernels have a charge rate which is set too high for the PALM PRE Touchstone to work with. Likewise, some non-oem chargers can not deliver enough amperage to continuously charge the device wirelessly through the Touchstone. Therefore, if you have any problems (disconnect/reconnect proble), be certain that you are using a stock charging rate (kernel controlled) and a stock Galaxy Note 2 Charger (2,000mA). If you are still having problems check your mod for trouble, and finally post up and maybe someone can help you.
The Mod / Workaround:

New Information:
If you have new information on a hardware or software fix then it will be added here. Until that time, proceed with the workaround at your own risk. Once again, the work around instructional image is HERE.
WARNING: What was claimed to be a fix in the section below did not work, and ultimately people wasted money on bogus hardware. It is here for historical reference.
The Fix
You may need to purchase some missing hardware.
See page 7 for details (you need to replace the flex cable and micro-usb board): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34380437&postcount=65 The SKU number for the board is MBRPSS964.

Wifi Charging work around instructions
Completed work around example.
alternate view of work around charging pin
alternate view of work around +5vdc source
Picture of the wi-fi fix working (reported that this may be a fake!)
Older info:
Some steps that I've personally done:
Completed the wireless mod above, confirmed wireless voltage reading of 5.56vdc.
Tested continuity between USB positive, and wireless positive - no connection.
Tested continuity from the negative wireless charging pin to the negative USB, SIM slot, various screws - they are connected.
Jumped the positive post on the USB to the wireless charging positive pin, the phone charges but is not practical to have a wire hanging out of the USB port.
I plan to pull apart the phone and check the paths from the positive and negative ports on the wireless pins. Attached is a picture from a SPRINT GN2 that does not have the pins, but supposedly works for charging once contact is made with the pads. I'm going to be using this to compare the circuit against my T-mobile version.
I hope you find something with this in the next few days when the full dis-assembly takes place

Now this makes sense. Because if both wireless and usb charging connections were directly connected together, the phone would have no way of knowing which charging system you were using. But we know from the tests on the international version that it does know. So this in no way tells us that positive is not connected at all.
Even though the phone doesn't detect wireless charging at this time in software, has anyone tried leaving it on the wireless charger to see if it still charges the battery?

Sounds like a lot of us did the same thing. Knowing that, any folks who can test with their modded or kit wireless will help speed up the research for everyone! I'm hopeful at this point, but have not had a chance yet to do a tear down. Been working late hours this week but I should have a chance to disassemble the Gn2 this weekend for sure. So far the plan is to do a visual inspection of the wireless charging circuit and compare it to the sprint pictures in the OP. I'm guessing that a bypass is in order and it may be as simple as using some foil tape or conductive marker; but that's all speculation at this point. :good:

I don't doubt your info, but it seems weird to me that other carriers (sprint specifically I think) can't access their pins, but would have added hardware that would make the phone capable of wireless charging, and we have access to the pins, but lack the hardware capability to take advantage of them.

I have a wind mobile note 2. Identical to the tmobile version. I did poke around with my multi meter and couldnt find the positive charging pin connected to anything. Just to be clear im no expert I just took my phone apart so it may help others figure this out. Especially since I already ordered the palm touch stone stuff lol

As it stands now, I jumped the USB 5vdc internally with a tiny wire, over to the wireless positive pin. It's working, although it was a tough mod. But it is totally internal so I guess this will have to do for now. So I have wireless charging (kind of, it works teh same as USB) on the T-mobile Note 2 now. If anyone wants to do the same thing, post up a pic of the board by the USB plug and I'll label the connector that you can use for the 5vdc source. The reason it's a tough mod is because you have to solder a small connection to the board under the capacitive touch buttons. It took me about 4 hours to find a good power lead on the board and make it all work internally!

I purchased one from Fasttech.com and installed it today
The phone says charging when I put it on the Qi charging pad. But after about 5 seconds it drops and stops charging...
I am not sure if they sent me a bad charging patch or what the issue might be.
Contacted them already for a replacement, any input would be helpful.

Are you using a case? I bought the "receiver" from them as well. It works great with my panasonic chargepad if I have a normal TPU case or no case at all. In my Urban Armor case it flips out and stops charging every 5 seconds. Time to go shopping for a new case, I guess. After having the Nexus4, I'm addicted to the convenience of Qi charging.
Yeah I tried OEM plastic door as well as no case at all.
It notifies me of charging starting then drops after about 5 seconds
I suspect it is probably a bad unit. I am using it with Nokia Fatboy chargers
Are you sure you are putting it on exactly where you need to on the charging pad? I'm using the same receiver in my phone with a cruzerlite TPU case and i have no problems at all with it.

I assume this is the one you purchased?
I'm using it with the Nokia Charging plate.
I have no issues to date. Using Dyztronic TPU case. Saw a review on the Fasttech site:
"I recently picked up a nokia wireless plate for another cell phone I have in my house so I wanted to add wireless charging capabilities to my verizon galaxy s3. I picked up a new back cover on ebay but it made the phone thicker, so I wanted something that would not change the rhickness of the phone. I saw this item and tried it out. It works excellent with the nokia fatboy. It does not make the phobe any thicker and it charges quickly with no issues. Extremely easy to install. Very pleased"
Maybe your plate or charger are defective? Works on my TMO D2, and this guy claims it's good on the VZW model. Best of luck.
if you checked his picture, he got the green one.. which is really weird... I have the yijieneng receiver and it's still working strong for me.
This might be a little crazy.. if you have some copper tape/wire lying around at home, maybe try to route it from the pad to the port and just put the pad right on the transmitter to see if it's just a distance issue or is it a defective receiver.
Mine works w/ the ballistic SG case.

I just bought a Nokia DT-900 charger and it's not working at all. My receiver is one of the 650ma ones and i get the rapid blinking light on the charger which the manual so vaguely says is a "charging problem'... ORLY?!
Either way I have submitted a request for a replacement receiver. Does anyone know if a higher quality receiver exists? I just want it to work! Those of you who have had no issues... do you have the one rated at 700ma or 650ma? And which charger(s) have you used?

Does this receiver cause any bulge on the battery cover when installed? I want to try this but don't want to add any thickness. One review mentions a bulge so I figured I'd check here. Thanks!
it'll leave a slight bulge but barely noticeable. you have to know it's there to notice it and even then it only matters if you're using the soft silicone cases.

Please post evidence of battery cases that are available or manufacturers that built Nexus 4 cases to watch.
Don't want one for a daily driver but for long airport travel and vacation days.
You can watch zerolemon, they did one for the n4.

It took zero lemon months to get it out. I bought it and to be honest it wasnt a good product. I just carry a battery back in my bag when i know i will be gone for a while.
I emailed ZeroLemon about a Nexus 5 case, mentioning the back was fairly easily removable and whether they would be making one for the Nexus 5 and here's what they said:
This case will be out in mid January due to holiday season and project lineup with our other products.

I'd only be interested if it were a replacement battery and back as opposed to a "charging case"

I wouldn't trust them. They promised one for the Galaxy nexus from the Playstore and they never released it.

I also email zerolemon and they told me the same thing. I'm very interested in what they can come up with.

Not necessarily a case, but it can work with or without a case... http://www.power-skin.com/popn/samsung-battery-charger.php
I haven't used any of PowerSkin's products, but I ordered it so I'll experiment and see how it is.

Now that is very interesting. I wonder if it covers the camera? With the sale and the coupon that might just be worth it to get me through the few circumstances were I wouldn't have access to a charger. The thing that I like about this option is that I don't need to remove the existing case. Pretty cool idea.
Actually, I am not sure that this will work after looking at it. The micro USB port is backwards on the Nexus 5 as compared to the Samsung devices. Does that case allow you to flip the USB port direction or is it fixed?

This looks promising however remember that the USB port on the nexus devices are upside down compared to Samsung galaxy etc... Also the docks are not compatible

I contacted them about the orientation of the USB port and they advised me that I should order the HTC model. It should be here tomorrow and I will report back. Hopefully they can update their website to accurately reflect the Nexus 5 after I provide feedback to them. Thanks.

I had them change the order to the HTC Pop'n which is the same thing, just with the USB facing the right way for the nexus.

While I wait to see if any of the more traditional battery case vendors come out with a nexus 5 solution, I decided to buy this charger accessory in the meantime. My need for something like this is not a daily driver. It is very specific days like traveling all day in airports or an extremely long day of kids activities where I know I will not have access to a charger. I do own one of the battery backup chargers but there are some instances where that is a pain to carry outside of a bag and still have frequent access to your phone. This PowerSkin solution seemed like the best option at this point for my needs. I've received the product this morning and so far I am pleased.
They sell two different microUSB models of this accessory with the only difference being the orientation of the micro USB connector. Note that the Nexus 5 does not have a USB port oriented in the way that other LG phones do so it is actually the HTC version of this product that has the correct orientation and not the LG model. However, it turns out that this does not matter at all if you have even the thinnest case on your Nexus 5. The default tip that comes with this case is not deep enough to penetrate through even the thinnest case and make appropriate contact in the Nexus 5 USB port. You need to have an accessory flex cable in order to use this accessory on your Nexus 5. The model number for that flex cable is PN09 and you have to request it from customer service. It is kind of a pain but it is the only thing available on the market at this point. You have to disconnect the plug that comes with this charger and connect the flex cable instead. The battery is 2000 mah so it should give us a little less than twice our battery capacity on the Nexus 5.
This is a very nice looking accessory with a glossy black finish that is entirely one piece and very smooth. There is a on off button and for LED light that give you an indication of battery capacity. It is charged using a micro USB port on the side of the battery from any standard USB charger.

Thanks and follow-up questions:
Thanks a bunch for taking pictures. I have the same case and have a few questions:
1) I if you were to cut the rubber at the bottom of your case, do you think you'd be able to make the stock connector fit?
2) do the suction cups work well against both the phone and the case?

I never trust anything from Ebay. They may claim it's 5600mAh but I doubt it. If you want a power bank look on amazon for Anker or ravPower. I've used products from both companies and have never had any issues.
This looks pretty good, anyone know if this company is interested in making a case for the nexus 5?

Mophie makes good stuff. I haven't been impressed with then lately though and don't hold out any hope for the Nexus 5. Their official word still is that they "don't know" of their iPhone 5 case is compatible with the iPhone 5s. I've had to look elsewhere for my son's phone. It is long past time for them to take a position on the 5s.

The Note 10.1 2014 Edition doesn't support wireless charging.
I know. Thats the reason why I opened this thread in the accessories forum.

If you know it does not why would you start a thread? It makes no sense. It does not have a removable battery cover so there is no way to add wireless charging without hardware modifications.

Ok, thats new for me. But there is one chance. There could be a case with qi Receiver and usb connector or if it has pins for a docking station then with connection to them.

Have you popped the back cover off to see if the pins are there?
If they are then a modded qi receiver would work great.
I do not own the Note 10.1. Thats the reason why I'm asking dumb questions.
For the Note 8 someone added a Qi Receiver with USB connector and hide it under a case.

He is not talking about taking the back cover off. He is talking about a case that has a plug that goes into the existing charge port of the tablet and there is a wireless charging coil within the case itself.
No, I have not seen any.
Yes, I do want one.
Does the Note 10.1 2014 has Connectors for a Docking Station? If yes, this would be an option to realize it without using an usb connector.

I, too, would love to add wireless charging capabilities to the Note.
I read a story on the iQi Mobile - Seamless Wireless Charging For iPhone and tried to find a similar product for micro usb ports. I came across a possible alternative but don't have any experience with the website/seller of the product.
(sorry, can't post links yet, remove spaces or search Google for "netimes Qi Standard Universal Wireless Charging Adapter for Samsung Micro-USB Connector")
www .netimes.com/shop/qi-standard-universal-wireless-charging-adapter-for-samsung-microusb-connector-p-4963 .html
Do you guys think something like this would work?
One disadvantage would be that you would have to unplug the cable to use a regular charging cable, but I think I could live with that.
in my opinion this seems legit and ok.
Of course it's annoying to remove the cable everytime, but for having wireless charging
l already thought about this on my HTC Eo 3D but did not want to spend too much money on that since it is no Must-have in my opinion.

you can attach a receiving case to the note 4, so why not the note 10.1 (2014) ?
As Qi supports 15 instead of 5 Watt (since 06/2015), we only need to wait for the next tablet generation. I think in the future we will see Qi on much more tablets.

i think you are looking for this
No, because the quality is poor and it is qi 1.0. I think at the moment there are no qi receiver supporting qi 1.1?! And of course it would be much nicer to have a receiver built-in or under the battery cover.
Am I the only one that doesn't like qi charging? I have it and a pad for my nexus 5 and 7fhd and just don't use it that often. I use my phone often when it's on the charger and qi is much slower than the wire. I just can't see using it
Thats because you're using it wrong. I have 4 Qi pads and they are placed everywhere I stay for a longer time like bed, desk, couch, etc. By that its the most comfortable charging.
And if fast charging is the only reason you need to know that Qi released Version 1.1 with 15 watts (same speed as USB 3.0). But it seems Samsung bought exclusive rights at the moment (Note 5), so we need to wait for other devices supporting it. But I do not miss it.
