Qi Inductive Wireless Charging Patch from FASTTECH - Galaxy S III Accessories

Has anyone tried one of these on a Verizon GS3? "photo is of the note 2 model but GS3 unit looks identical"
I purchased one from Fasttech.com and installed it today
The phone says charging when I put it on the Qi charging pad. But after about 5 seconds it drops and stops charging...
I am not sure if they sent me a bad charging patch or what the issue might be.
Contacted them already for a replacement, any input would be helpful.

Are you using a case? I bought the "receiver" from them as well. It works great with my panasonic chargepad if I have a normal TPU case or no case at all. In my Urban Armor case it flips out and stops charging every 5 seconds. Time to go shopping for a new case, I guess. After having the Nexus4, I'm addicted to the convenience of Qi charging.

Yeah I tried OEM plastic door as well as no case at all.
It notifies me of charging starting then drops after about 5 seconds
I suspect it is probably a bad unit. I am using it with Nokia Fatboy chargers

Are you sure you are putting it on exactly where you need to on the charging pad? I'm using the same receiver in my phone with a cruzerlite TPU case and i have no problems at all with it.

I assume this is the one you purchased?
I'm using it with the Nokia Charging plate.
I have no issues to date. Using Dyztronic TPU case. Saw a review on the Fasttech site:
"I recently picked up a nokia wireless plate for another cell phone I have in my house so I wanted to add wireless charging capabilities to my verizon galaxy s3. I picked up a new back cover on ebay but it made the phone thicker, so I wanted something that would not change the rhickness of the phone. I saw this item and tried it out. It works excellent with the nokia fatboy. It does not make the phobe any thicker and it charges quickly with no issues. Extremely easy to install. Very pleased"
Maybe your plate or charger are defective? Works on my TMO D2, and this guy claims it's good on the VZW model. Best of luck.

if you checked his picture, he got the green one.. which is really weird... I have the yijieneng receiver and it's still working strong for me.
This might be a little crazy.. if you have some copper tape/wire lying around at home, maybe try to route it from the pad to the port and just put the pad right on the transmitter to see if it's just a distance issue or is it a defective receiver.
Mine works w/ the ballistic SG case.

Does this block nfc?

I think he just used that pic as a reference. It's definitely different either way, diff coil and states 650 instead of 700. Good idea with the tape. Radio shack sells it.

Hmm... thats weird the one I got from Fasttech is only 650Mah instead of 700. Mine works fine though. I bought the one where it came with the receiver patch and charging pad. Was extremely cheap, but this thing only charge at 466Ma. Is there anyway to increase the charging capability?

I just bought a Nokia DT-900 charger and it's not working at all. My receiver is one of the 650ma ones and i get the rapid blinking light on the charger which the manual so vaguely says is a "charging problem'... ORLY?!
Either way I have submitted a request for a replacement receiver. Does anyone know if a higher quality receiver exists? I just want it to work! Those of you who have had no issues... do you have the one rated at 700ma or 650ma? And which charger(s) have you used?

The green patch and this white one is the same product.
I was using a Nokia Fatboy charger which essentially is the same one you have with a bean bag cover over it.

Does this receiver cause any bulge on the battery cover when installed? I want to try this but don't want to add any thickness. One review mentions a bulge so I figured I'd check here. Thanks!

it'll leave a slight bulge but barely noticeable. you have to know it's there to notice it and even then it only matters if you're using the soft silicone cases.

I'm having this same issue I'm using the fastech and the white qui receiver on the Nokia Fatboy. I purchased 3 qi pads but only have the one Nokia charger to trst them on all the qi cards have reacted the same as the OP. What's strange is sometimes I place it on the charging pad and it will work but other times once phone goes to sleep it kills the charging and the light on the charger just blinks(not charging).

I'm beginning to think that the common thread here is FastTech. I'm going to get another receiver off eBay before I write off Qi charging on my S3. Bleh.

Will do. I'm going to also contact FastTech to see if they will send another... it does kind of bug me that they sent a 650ma one vs 700ma... i know, I know, the numbers probably mean nothing... but clearly the pictured product is NOT the one you will receive.

I did have one email with them but at the time I had only test one of the qi receivers. I will be sending another email out and hopefully get some responses. I just find it weird that they work at time and other times they don't.

Nexus 5 battery case

Please post evidence of battery cases that are available or manufacturers that built Nexus 4 cases to watch.
Don't want one for a daily driver but for long airport travel and vacation days.
You can watch zerolemon, they did one for the n4.

It took zero lemon months to get it out. I bought it and to be honest it wasnt a good product. I just carry a battery back in my bag when i know i will be gone for a while.
I emailed ZeroLemon about a Nexus 5 case, mentioning the back was fairly easily removable and whether they would be making one for the Nexus 5 and here's what they said:
This case will be out in mid January due to holiday season and project lineup with our other products.

Now that is very interesting. I wonder if it covers the camera? With the sale and the coupon that might just be worth it to get me through the few circumstances were I wouldn't have access to a charger. The thing that I like about this option is that I don't need to remove the existing case. Pretty cool idea.
Actually, I am not sure that this will work after looking at it. The micro USB port is backwards on the Nexus 5 as compared to the Samsung devices. Does that case allow you to flip the USB port direction or is it fixed?

I contacted them about the orientation of the USB port and they advised me that I should order the HTC model. It should be here tomorrow and I will report back. Hopefully they can update their website to accurately reflect the Nexus 5 after I provide feedback to them. Thanks.

While I wait to see if any of the more traditional battery case vendors come out with a nexus 5 solution, I decided to buy this charger accessory in the meantime. My need for something like this is not a daily driver. It is very specific days like traveling all day in airports or an extremely long day of kids activities where I know I will not have access to a charger. I do own one of the battery backup chargers but there are some instances where that is a pain to carry outside of a bag and still have frequent access to your phone. This PowerSkin solution seemed like the best option at this point for my needs. I've received the product this morning and so far I am pleased.
They sell two different microUSB models of this accessory with the only difference being the orientation of the micro USB connector. Note that the Nexus 5 does not have a USB port oriented in the way that other LG phones do so it is actually the HTC version of this product that has the correct orientation and not the LG model. However, it turns out that this does not matter at all if you have even the thinnest case on your Nexus 5. The default tip that comes with this case is not deep enough to penetrate through even the thinnest case and make appropriate contact in the Nexus 5 USB port. You need to have an accessory flex cable in order to use this accessory on your Nexus 5. The model number for that flex cable is PN09 and you have to request it from customer service. It is kind of a pain but it is the only thing available on the market at this point. You have to disconnect the plug that comes with this charger and connect the flex cable instead. The battery is 2000 mah so it should give us a little less than twice our battery capacity on the Nexus 5.
This is a very nice looking accessory with a glossy black finish that is entirely one piece and very smooth. There is a on off button and for LED light that give you an indication of battery capacity. It is charged using a micro USB port on the side of the battery from any standard USB charger.

Thanks and follow-up questions:
Thanks a bunch for taking pictures. I have the same case and have a few questions:
1) I if you were to cut the rubber at the bottom of your case, do you think you'd be able to make the stock connector fit?
2) do the suction cups work well against both the phone and the case?

I never trust anything from Ebay. They may claim it's 5600mAh but I doubt it. If you want a power bank look on amazon for Anker or ravPower. I've used products from both companies and have never had any issues.

Mophie makes good stuff. I haven't been impressed with then lately though and don't hold out any hope for the Nexus 5. Their official word still is that they "don't know" of their iPhone 5 case is compatible with the iPhone 5s. I've had to look elsewhere for my son's phone. It is long past time for them to take a position on the 5s.

The brand isn't really important, you should focus on the output it provides. 5V/1A Output is the highest available. If you see that, then go for the cheapest one you can find. They all will essentially charge the same. The differences will mostly come down to looks, and magnets. The cheaper ones generally will not have magnets, which isn't a big deal as long as you put the Nexus 5 on the middle of the pad. Other than that, the only difference will be brand and price.

The one I have isn't from Amazon, but it's only $11.42 off of ebay. I have 2 more on the way. This is the cheapest I have found for a 5V/1A Qi charger anywhere so far.

No, there are no problems charging though, with any of my cases on the phone either. I took it apart just to see what the inside looked like, and the coil is right in the middle. So as long as the phone is on top of the symbol, it's fine.
The angled one is the same style as the Official Nexus 4 Charging Orb. It doesn't have magnets, but it has a non slip circular pad to keep the phone from sliding.
I believe the only Qi charger out at the moment with magnets is the Official Nexus 5 Wireless Charger.

No worries, just remember that the power output should be on the top of your list first. 5V/1A Output, so you're getting the best charge rate you can. After that, it's a toss up because they're all pretty much the same.

well, 5V/1A output, and the coils
the cheap ones only have 1 coil, so you'll need to reposition it properly(or trust the magnet system)
the more expensive have multiple coils, either to charge multiple devices at once, or allow you to just put the device in any position
(eg TYLT Vu )
if you see AT&T selling the Nokia DT-900 again for $12, that's cheap with brand name (downside = uses non-standard 12V power plug, need to adjust position, no magnets, single coil, but cheap

Yeah, more coils are nice but it's not that important. The Nexus 4 Orb, Nexus 5 Charger (with magnets yeah), the various puck shaped chargers out there, and pretty much the majority of Qi chargers out there are only 1 coil and do just fine. As long as you don't just toss your phone down on it without caring you won't have a problem. Roughly center of phone to center of charger, and it's fine.
For me anyway, I don't see multiple coils or magnets as a good enough reason to pay a $20 - $50+ premium over the cheaper single coil chargers that charge just as fast. The Tylt Vu is a nice looking charger, but $70 - $80 bucks just to toss a phone on there a couple of extra directions, no thanks.
I look at it from a bang for buck/functionality perspective first, and flashiness a distant second. These are really just glorified USB cables.
*Edit: I just looked up the specs of the Nokia DT-900. To go along with the non-standard plug, it also only has a 750mA output current.... I'd definitely avoid it, even at $12

Not only that, but it doesn't even seem like the Tylt Vu has magnets to hold the phone in place. Pretty sure i was watching a promotional video demonstrating it, and it clearly showed the phone NOT charging when they put the phone in landscape orientation and it was resting on the bottom edge of the stand/dock/whatever.
I thought dt900 has three coils.

I see, I haven't seen the promo video, but that's unfortunate. I don't think it has magnets if it is supposed to let you place it however you like. Magnets would generally be used to do the opposite and force the phone into an exact mount location.

It does have 3 coils. Which means it should charge however you put the phone on it, but the 750mA output current means it will charge very slowly regardless. The number of coils just means a bit bigger area for contact points, it doesn't affect how fast the phone charges.
Qi chargers have ~70+% efficiency, so the DT-900 would only really be charging around 525 - 550mA max. That is half the rate of the stock charger, so it would take a little over 4 hours to charge the Nexus 5.
I just ordered this one:

Not bad for $22...5V/1A output, a magnet and it looks pretty cool too.

Those both look pretty good. They don't come with power adapters though (most Qi chargers don't, just a USB cable).
You could use the USB ports on your computer, but I don't recommend using them (2.0/3.0) as they don't provide the full current needed to fully power a 2A input charger so you'll get slower charge speeds. If you have to though, try to use a USB 3.0 charge port as it at least provides more current.
If you can, get a 2A USB wall adapter.
love this.

Performance
To see the improvement a GOOD USB cable can make, I made a video demonstrating the difference in charge speed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=49509790&postcount=52
The first thing you need to do before you even use it, is replace the USB cable with one that supports faster charging speeds. The included cable does work, but it topped out at around a 600mA charge rate while connected to a 2A USB wall adapter. I'm currently waiting on a bunch of Monoprice Premium USB cables to arrive so I can replace all of my cables. Until then, I'm using my Motorola Ecomoto cable (from the Atrix days) with this charger. It is probably one of the best USB cables out there (unlike the phone....) and it let the charger go full speed which put it at close to 800mA. That number surprised me, because it means the efficiency of this charger is quite high! Above 75%! That is really good!! My 3 other Qi chargers, top out at 751mA, 722mA, and 745mA.
That may not seem like too much of a variance between them all, but Qi chargers are generally rated at ~70% - 75% efficiency, which my other 3 chargers fall within. So far, this one has outperformed them all. A 1A output Qi charger at higher than 75% efficiency.
So far so good for a $14.83 generic ebay Qi charger!
Build Quality
The charger is well built. While it is light, it has a little bit of weight to it (doesn't feel like a feather). There is a vent/grill on the bottom, as well as 4 non slip sticker pads to prevent the charger from sliding around. Each foot pad had a little plastic cover over it that you need to peel off before using. There is also a non slip ring pad on the top of the charger (white ring) that also has a plastic cover you need to peel off before use. (Edit: Some people have suggested peeling off the white ring, repositioning it, and reapplying so that the phone sticks even better). The top and bottom pads are NOT sticky. They are a very grippy rubbery material. While it is thin, it holds very well.
I used my Quicksand Cases, Semi Transparent Cases, Candy Color Cases, the Ringke Slim, and Naked/Caseless and the phone did not slide off at all. It's not sticky, but it will hold your phone in any case (that I have anyway) with no problems. I was concerned the Quicksand case may not stay in place because it is not a smooth material, but it stayed in place just fine. It had no problems charging through all of my cases as well, with no loss of speed.
There are 2 LEDs on the front, 1 red, 1 green. Red alone = unit is powered, Red + Green = phone connected/charging. There is no speaker in the unit (if you are a person who likes that) so there is no beep from the charger when the phone is placed on it. The Nexus 5 still makes the connection sound though.
The charger did not get hot throughout the whole charging cycle. It got a tiny bit warmer, but that was it. The phone as well, did not get hot while charging, a little warmer only. But playing any game on the phone for more than 10 minutes will be hotter than this was. So no issues there.
The unit itself looks very nice, and as you will see in the pictures below, is SMALLER than I had thought it to be. When the phone is connected to the charger, you can't see the charger under/behind it. When it arrived in the mail (in a simple yellow bubble pack envelope) I had originally thought it was some of my 2A adapters I had ordered.
The only down side to this charger, was the USB cable it shipped with. It will get the job done, but if you want full speed, use a better cable with some 2A adapters.
Pictures
Profile and angle:
You can see that the phone had no problem staying in place. Even using the Quicksand case which I thought wouldn't stick at all, had no problem.
Straight on:
You can see here how small the unit is, when the phone is on it, you can't even see it. It's taller and more angled than the Nexus 5 charger, but smaller than you may think. I quite like it, it's very unassuming and would blend nicely on a desk next to a pencil holder or something.
Size comparisons:
There ya go! You can see how small this thing is in comparison to a couple of my other chargers. Yes, the rectangular ones are different from each other. The one without the LED is probably the one with the lowest build quality. Comparing it to a standard credit card type card, as well, you can see it's pretty small.
Holding ability:
Just to show you how well this thing holds the phone. Here are a couple of random angles. The second one I just did for extreme demonstration purposes (it didn't charge this way because the coils were nowhere near each other) but you can see even with awkward angles and uneven weight distribution the phone wasn't going anywhere!!
Conclusion/Is it worth it??
So, is this a good buy?
I would put this strictly in the YES category. It looks nice, is VERY cheap, is built quite well, and for my unit anyway, is the FASTEST Qi charger I've got! If you're in the market for a cheap, fast, quality, angled Qi charger, this guy will serve you well.
Pros:
Cost - Great bang for the buck at $14.83 shipped
Build Quality - It's solid and doesn't feel cheap
Looks - Looks good to me that's up to you really
Performance - This guy is quick, Energizer bunny quick!
Misc - With or without a case, no problems holding the phone or charging at full speed
Cons:
Included USB Cable - Will get the job done, but not at top speed. It's the ol' Ball and Chain... Use a better one if you can!
thanks for the review man. gonna have to snag a few
I can confirm ordered one as recommendation from Op got it today and I thought it won't be able to charge with my tudia hybrid which is quite bulky case but no problem this or the flat one charge the phone have yet to see how much mAh they put but I still didn't get 2A Chargers but I'm extremely happy with the buy so far. Review: Wireless Charging Enabled Back Cover with T-Mobile LG G3

After reading through this thread, a couple people made mention of a possible back cover that replaces our stock one and enables wireless charging on the U.S. LG G3. As someone who has 2 wireless Qi chargers laying around collecting dust, I was very excited to get wireless charging capabilities on my G3 like I had on my Nexus 5. So I immediately placed my order.
For Only $38 shipped, it was definitely worth a shot. I ordered it from HERE (eBay) on August 2nd. It finally arrived today (August 21st) and I immediately unwrapped it and got it installed.
I'm happy to say that it works flawlessly with both the Tylt Vue Wireless Charger and LG WCP-700 Wireless Charging Pad.
I tested it both without a case and with a TPU case so I can confirm it will work just fine with a case just like the Nexus 5 did. For those curious, the new wireless back is the exact same dimensions as the stock one and clips right into the phone just the same.
Overall: It's perfect and works exactly as intended. I recommend this to anyone wanting to get wireless charging enabled on their G3. :good::highfive:

Still waiting on mine to come...
Does it randomly disconnect and reconnect? Both of my Nokia dt910 do that. I have a cheap pad from amazon coming to test.
I wanted 4 wireless chargers so I went cheap, I know not the smartest thing. lol I guess I got knock offs and they charge and disconnect. I've tried different cables but no worky. My NFC works so I guess my sticker I bought in the main accessory section should be good right? I really like that Tylt charger just don't want to sped that much since I want 4.

It doesn't randomly disconnect with either charger. The Tylt Vue is flawless. The LG charger gives me the "charging slowly" message but from what I have seen it charges just as fast so to me that's a non-issue. But again, neither charger randomly disconnects.

Awesome, just got mine in yesterday. Wireless charger should arrive today. Glad to know it'll work.
Got mine this afternoon too. Wireless charging is flawless with my nexus 4 orb, not so much with my nexus 5 one though. Slides too much on the glass. Haven't tried to see if NFC is working yet. Not to say it won't, but I do want to make sure.

Do you get bulging around the volume rocker?
I have tried NFC now and it works fine. Only issue is that the cover isn't fully flush on the bottom of the phone. It sits a hair higher than the phone frame. Barely noticeable, but present.

I'm still happy with it and it could be my phone. I never really "inspected" that area prior to getting the new back plate. Maybe one day I'll throw the old one on to compare. Either way, I have 4 nexus wireless chargers (orb and plate) that can be used again.

Sorry, wasn't suggesting the other wasn't legit OEM, just thought this was a good deal. Also, you can't tell by the photo but it has the same metallic back as the one the phone comes with and I've seen some "OEM Backs" that are made in China, this is made in S. Korea.

Maybe you didn't align the phone with the qi charging pad. I had the same problem, if i miss align the phone with the qi charging hot spot, it will tell u charging slowly. After u fix the position, the warning will go away.
Anyone know where I can find a good white back cover with wireless charging?

TYLT VU QI Wireless Charger

Anyone using a TYLT VU QI Wireless Charger with the LG G4? I was looking to buy one until I read the reviews and posts about the Nexus 5 heating up.
Want to make sure it works and doesn't have the same/similar issues.
Thanks
-CC
I own this charger. I used it daily with my Nexus 5 for 18 months and change. The overheating thing didn't happen to me.
Now I own the dual sim G4 which it turns out does not support wireless charging so I didn't manage to test it.
It matters which G4 model you have and from what carrier. Some won't support Qi. I'm not sure but I read about this around here.
Otherwise, I fully encourage you to get that sexy charger.
I use this charger with a G4 Qi sticker that I installed in a leather back. Works just fine with no overheating.

The one with 1.5 V OUTPUT is about $50. But now the LG WCD 100 cost less than $30

IMHO this is an overpriced charger. The LG WCD-100 work flawlessly. Many times it the contact on the phone and the wireless coil not contact properly. My recommendation is to get a qi charger with 1.5V OUTPUT

yes this is the future of wireless charging. our high capacity battery need higher Amp.
Many manufacturer are still unwilling to give up the 1.0 A circuit board design to invest on the new circuit board.

Someone also mentioned they are working on wireless update to allow for faster charging. The problem I would see is that QI already fries the battery at 1A and lowers battery life.
has anyone with the TYLT Vu had the weird issue where, after leaving the phone to charge on it, it sometimes locks up the screen, and ends up resulting in your wallpaper being reset?

Ive seen people mention having issues with qi wireless chargers locking up or resetting thier phones in other threads about different brands. It seems to be an issue with the alarm and notifications for some, while they have it charging on qi.

Haven't had this problem with the Tylt on either the G3 or G4.

This happens to me about every other day. I use a newsidom (spelling?) Qi sticker with the Tylt wireless charger too. So frustrating. Sometimes I can't shut off my alarm because it is in a weird locked state. Can't nail down whether it is a wireless only issue, or charging in general.

same sticker I'm using. I'm wondering if it's the sticker, or the Tylt Vu, or the combination of the two. thinking of getting another wireless charger to see if that happens still. never happens when charging traditionally.

Hey I just noticed the TYLT Vu does 12v/750mA rapid charging. They claim charging as fast as usb plug.

Just for reference, I also use the Newisdom sticker with the Tylt on the G4 but have never had any issues like this. Granted, I've only been using the Newisdom sticker on the G4 for a few weeks but never had this happen using the Tylt on the G3 for almost a year.
Last night I switched to the official LG Wireless charger (for the G3) and didn't have the issue this morning. I will keep using this and see if the problem goes away. For me it would happen every single morning, without fail. Was super annoying.

Dock. Two nights in a row now and it has worked fine. I just got a red leather back, going to put another Qi sticker on it and test both chargers again.

3 full cycles with no issues. I think the biggest thing I noticed is that the LG dock charger keeps the charging cycle on as it would if plugged in. The TYLT would turn off for around 30 seconds once the phone was at 100%, then turn back on. All night long I am assuming because it does it whenever I am awake and watching it. Not sure why the two would be different because I would think the phone would control it. Weird.
I just put a new sticker on (still newsidom) a different back. Will report back after a couple days.
