What I am doing:
1. connecting to WiFi AP
2. trying to access any internet site.
What is strange:
1. Internet Explorer, HTC weather and Stock works perfect
2. BUT Opera, Youtube and QuickGPS does not work
3. Intra-network works perfect either from Opera or IE.
Windows config:
1. I set DNS, WINS and proxy with port
2. in connections profiles I have one "My work network" for both Work and Internet.
3. WiFi session connects to Work profile.
4. NO VPN or Modems in profile ...
5. Adapter connects to Work profile.
6. I have certificates installed to access WiFi net.
What I did to resolve the issue:
- I did MTTY and nothing changed;
- I did change of MTU - did not help;
- I've renamed proxy in settings from Symbolic representation to IP - did not help;
- I've tried both 6.1 and 6.5 WM versions and ROMs
- I've tried many combinations of different settings, but nothing helped.
Some times I saw that the issue disappeared on some ROMs after a number of settings changed during tries... but I did not get a logic of how it become working...
I appreciate any help from you and ready to make a testing...
Where are you, masters?
Hi friends
Searched the forum and tried the proposed solutions but nothing helped.
I'm trying connect to addhoc wifi on my desire HD os=2.2
I replaced the wpa_supplicant file with one of those that exists on the forum and
indeed now i see adhoc networks but the connection is not stable - it goes like connecting -> obtaining ip address -> connected -> disconnected
and so on in loop ... i verified that the ip is static and i even put gateway+mask+dns.
when trying to ping the target it even sometimes succeeds!
Tried with several different adhoc targets and tried both wpa_supplicant for ver 0.5 & ver 0.6
Please does someone can help ?
thanks

My phone is samsung galaxy GT - I 5503. I do too and obtainging IP address...
This question not yet solved
I have the same issue with my sgs2. I get no connection ever, only a constant "Obtaining IP address.."
I'd suggest resetting your router and forgetting the network and trying to reconnect. Also a static IP might work but as for finding any of your provider's info, that's up to you. Unfortunately, XDA doesn't even recognize my network (Sasktel) so I am having a very tough time with this!
most probably firewall problem , i had same problem with hotspot doing exactly as you discribe.
it can also happen by some custom Roms and don't happen with others ( firewall disabled ) .
Also lot of sense Roms have an issue with that exact wifi problem , not like AOSP Roms ,i don't know why
I only had this problem with a network called; 'eduroam', my schools' network. I solved it by recotting & changing the network security TLS/TTLS/EAP or somethinf like that.
I've searched several threads, but can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
Both devices definitely 100% rooted with superuser working fine, permissions granted for all apps.
I installed wifi_tether_v3_1-beta14.apk on the phone.
Device Profile: Evo 4G
Setup-Method: Initially I tried Softap (master). That's the same as infrastructure mode, correct?
Default SSID (AndroidTether)
MSS Clamping checked
Routing Fix checked
If I attempt to run it with these settings, I get a popup informing me the wifi hotspot started, but with errors. The log just says most of the wifi steps failed, I can post details if needed. I don't think it's really running - no upload/download indicator showing at the bottom of the app. My PC can't see the hotspot.
If I switch Setup-Method to Ad-hoc, it runs fine, no errors, PC can see it and connect to it. But KF can't connect to Ad-hoc... so lame.
So, I got ZT-180 Adhoc Switcher.apk for the kindle fire, to switch it to ad-hoc mode. Went to settings, told it to connect to AndroidTether. Switched to Ad-Hoc mode. It says "attempting to connect" ... after a minute it gives up and keeps retrying. The hotspot shows in the list of wifi networks, but it's hanging at "Obtaining IP address".
So, what's the issue? Infrastructure mode not working? Need to flash a custom rom? I read something about maybe needing a non-stock kernel? Upgrade or downgrade my radio?
I finally found a method that works, barely.
Wifi Tether (app listed above) failed.
Adhoc Switcher failed.
Wifi Hotspot Widget failed.
Elixir2's hotspot widget failed (connected but no surf).
The one that worked is free and doesn't even need root apparently: Foxfi.
I say it "barely" worked because even this has issues.
When I tried to create a password, it wouldn't connect.
But if I leave the password blank (no password) it does work.
http://foxfi.com/bin/
I just told it to start running, and left the SSID at the default (FoxFi98 I believe).
Hi guys,
I've got a rooted ARC S currently running on a nightly version of CyanogenMod 10 that will not connect to wifi points.
I've gone through tons of threads and forums for a solution and none of them work.
The wifi points are detected with decent to very strong signal but when I try to connect it either sits on "connecting...", switches between "saved" and "obtaining IP address" or in the case of WPA protected networks; between "authenticating" and "connecting..." and "obtaining IP address".
Most of the time it ends up with "Avoided poor connection".
I only currently have access to public wifi networks so cannot modify the router settings, but I have tried creating a virtual hosted network (rebroadcasting a network through my pc)(see below).
Here's what I've tried:
-Factory reset, wiping cache and Dalvik cache multiple times
-Virtual hosted network
***I've tried rebroadcasting a public wifi through my pc and it connected, but at the time the network wasn't connected to the internet. When I managed to connect the network to the internet it would no longer connect to the network***
-Changing ROM
Problem started on CyanogenMod 9 (stable release), I've tried stock Sony ICS ROM (Doomlord version), stock Xperia Gingerbread and tried rebooting CyanogenMod 10.
***One time after flashing CyanogenMod 9 the wifi started working again for about 3 hours, but then failed and hasn't worked since***
-Deleting data/misc/dhcp file
I didn't actually have a file in the data/misc/ directory but I tried deleting the folder in case the file was hidden but nothing changed.
-Debugging with ADB
I've connected to ADB debugging while trying to connect to a working wifi point and these are some of the (hopefully relevant) messages I got on Logcat.

I know that's probably way too much information but I've tried everything I can think of. Any help would be awesome.
Hasn't anybody got any ideas?
I've continued experimenting with various methods and I've noticed neither of the networks I've used have IPv6 enabled.
Could that be the source of the problem?
Because I've also got a HP touchpad running CM and WebOS and neither OS can connect either. But my 4th gen Ipod can.

WiFi modules wouldn't let the user get that far, FYI. Go try using WiFi without installing modules
OP: Does the issue occur on all WiFi networks or just one specific?
Logcat shows, like DHCP is failing, which is the router function to hand out IPs to every device connected to it.

Some it can connect to, some it can't. The really annoying thing is that it has connected to my wifi network before. Twice.
Then it just stopped being able to connect to it.
Surely if the router was having problems my PC would have similar connecting issues? Which it doesn't.
When you say flash wifi modules do you mean you can get multiple modules for the same device?
I didn't realise you could change them.
Hi,
This is my first post, on this great forum, so I'm posting as a "noob"...
So my problem :
- I installed the LegacyXperia 20130908 CM10.1 release. It was working almost OK
- But because of the high wifi drain, I gave the lated DarkKernel a try (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2451839)
It seems to perform very good BUT I just noticed something really weird : I have access to the internet through my wifi LAN, I can ping my gateway BUT nothing else works on the local LAN :
ping fails :
[email protected]:/ $ ping -c 1 192.168.1.13
PING 192.168.1.13 (192.168.1.13) 56(84) bytes of data.
From 192.168.1.10 icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable
The arp table seems incomplete :
1|[email protected]:/ $ arp -a
d810.home (192.168.1.13) at <incomplete> on wlan0
livebox.home (192.168.1.1) at 00:1f:95:26:25:4d [ether] on wlan0
The routes seem ok, the ip neighbours are not :
[email protected]:/ $ ip route show
default via 192.168.1.1 dev wlan0
192.168.1.0/24 dev wlan0 proto kernel scope link src 192.168.1.10
192.168.1.1 dev wlan0 scope link
[email protected]:/ $ ip neighbor show
192.168.1.13 dev wlan0 FAILED
192.168.1.1 dev wlan0 lladdr 00:1f:95:26:25:4d STALE
AH, on more weird thing, the kernel arp table has lots of zeroes for the unreachable devices MAC adresses (yes, I have 192.168.1.13 and 1.15 are up and running) :
[email protected]:/ $ cat /proc/net/arp
IP address HW type Flags HW address Mask Device
192.168.1.1 0x1 0x2 00:1f:95:26:25:4d * wlan0
192.168.1.15 0x1 0x0 00:00:00:00:00:00 * wlan0
And I can't seem to be able to communicate with the local LAN only with the android phone...
I have static IPs in my DSL router, I can't set the arp tables manually.
I *think* this was all working with the default ROM kernel, but before I attempt to revert back to that kernel to check (I backed up the modules, but yet another noob thing, I'm not sure putting back the tar into /lib/modules will be enough...) :
==> this is my noob question : anybody knows how I can report that to the dev, and how I can get help ?
Since it's my first post (only 9 remaining now !), I can't post in dev section...
Thanks && regards
Did you flash the DarkModules?
Hi,
Yes i did flash them in cwm...

Hi,
Thanks for the reminder.
But actually, by dev, i meant the kernel dev : the issue i see is not a force close or things like that,
and it appeared after i flashed this new kernel which seems better for the battery.
I think this is a kernel/wifi modules issue, not a rom one.
Or a noob error, but then i hope some of you can help me understand my error
As i said, wifi is somehow working since i'm replying just now using it...
It's just that apart from the dhcp/gateway, my device seems unable to learn any mac address with this kernel.
I haven't tried a tcpdump for now, and i wanted to test ipv6 but my 'great' dsl/wifi box does not support v6 - yes, that still exists...
Regards

He is also developing the kernel together with his team, which is given within the .zip file.
Ahh... txs.
OK, now I don't understand anymore anything...
I did :
- remount rw /system/
- cleanup and then restore the /system/lib/modules backup I had done - using tar
- reflash the ROM kernel (200130908)
And... still no ping on the wLAN, but I can ping google and the GW. ??
The arp table still shows me incomplete records.
Still I'm 100% sure I could connect before : I did use connectbot to ssh onto my computer and setup new ssh keys.
I don't know what else I can try exept reboot the dsl box (which is the wifi router)... or delete the recorded stuff in that dsl box and that reference my arc s.
Or reflash all, but I always manage loosing stuff when I reflash (which I avoïd doing then), even with titanium backup
That's all really weird...
Side question : is there *always* a captcha verification on every post ?
Cheers

Which DNS server are you using? Did you change anything else by WiFi?
The captcha is only for limited amount of posts, then it will disappear.
I did not change any dns setting, but i saw local names in the terminal, so i must be using my dhcp/box dns.
You remind me i unchecked the wifi optomizations with the new kernel: i read this was causing arp issues on nexus devices...
Lets try to re-enable that... appart from this, i changed nothing after i flashed this kernel.
Except I tried 1.8ghz (it worked well), but this disappeared sincei restored the official rom krtnel
Thats really all i changed since i tried the new kernel yesterday evening
Can you believe this...
- Restoring the wifi optimisations did not help
- rebooting the DSL box helped. For 5 minutes.
I was able to ping a computer on the network, but not to go to the dsl box webserver. and I lost internet.
- subsequent dsl box reboots did not solve anything : no internet, no webserver, no connexion even on the wired PCs , powerd them on or off, nothing.
- *unplugging* everything + dsl box reboot => did restore internet+wifi on the arc
- replugging the PCs did not break
- and I can now see/ping the LAN with the arc s
Only remains, now, the dlink switch I have downtstairs that is the only stuff that remained plugged all time (theres a device on it, but it's off)..... It must have switched to a "netkill" state somehow. Funny, isn't it ?
let's now start wireshark, reinstall the new kernel, and see if there is any difference... and lastly reboot/replug the dlink switch
the come back for the (arp) ping of death ?
Regards
Last experiments:
- fired wireshark, to capture any network suspicious paquets
- reflashed the new kernel+modules
- retried ping / local LAN
Still working.
I rebooted my last network device (dlink switch), repluggued it : everything is still working.
conclusion : I don't understand
Cheers
