I'm purchasing a Note 2 from another carrier. Telus or Bell but will be using the phone on Rogers network. They all have the same model SGH-i317M but different firmwares? Is this correct? There is no difference between the different Canadian carriers versions of the Note 2 other than the firmware, correct?
If I simply unlock using the unlock code will it function fine on the Rogers network with the Telus firmware? Would it work better if I flash the Rogers firmware?
Once rooted with CWM recovery installed can I flash Rogers/Telus/Bell versions of the firmware with no problems? If I install the Rogers stock Note 2 firmware will I get Rogers OTA updates? If I leave the phone unlocked but rooted with CWM recovery and Telus firmware the phone will continue to get Telus OTA updates?
I've only had nexus phones this far and rooting and flashing has been easy, I understand the process I just don't want to flash the wrong thing.
It should work fine on rogers. All that flashing a rogers rom will do is bloat your phone with rogers ware

Yes u are fine.. same fw different bloat
Same firmware just carrier customized(bloatware). I think if you unlock it will give you the ota for whatever carrier you are on. But you should go with custom roms anyways. You will get a 4.2.2 rom long before you get an update. I use aosp but I hear cleanrom and skynote are the best tw roms.

Hey,
I bought a rogers galaxy s3, and I unlocked it but now I want to use the bell software on it....can I just load the image using odin?
Yes.
It is not Rogers to Bell that will be an issue but moving from LG1 to LH1 to JB -- there are good posts on how to do this and a couple of threads full of posts with the possible issues that can result if you don't do it correctly.
Mixxy has directions for using Odin to go from stock Bell LH1 to JB. Other's have used Mobile Odin successfully. There are two threads with good directions and CWM flashable JB roms also for AT&T phones which apply to Rogers the same on how to install the latest Bell JB leak.

If it will not install, use mobile odin pro from chainfire.you can bypass any install errors.

I have a bell phone. ...my provider is rogers. Is it safe to flash Rogers firmware on my phone ? I hate all the bell bloatware. Also if I had rogers firmware does that make it easier to update ota? Last time I had to use kies...im guessing thats because I had rogers as my carrier on a bell phone.?? The upgrade comes from the carrier server right?

Friend asked to check what can be done to get it working on T-mobile network...
This is what I have accomplished so far...
Got phone with MG1
Service menu unlock didn't work...
Downgraded MDJ through ODIN to see if it helps... No luck...
Got root by flashing through ODIN CF-Auto-Root for T-mobile's m919
Unlocked using RegionLock Away.
Didn't have much time to test, but was able to make calls with T-mobile SIM
QUESTIONS...
1. What recovery to flash?
2. What ROMs can I use??? T-mobile's m919??? International 9500 or 9505?
3. Do these phones have locked bootloader? How to check without risking to brick it?
4. Anything else needs to be done??? I don't think we are in 4G market with T-mobile.
Would be great to flash SlimBean...

Yeah... I was all over that thread... My next step is flashing recovery... Which version of recovery to use? Goo Manager suggests the one that is used on Canadian 337 phones... Should I use it or manually flash T-mobile version for example?

There is no SGH-M919V or Videotron among supported on TWRP page.
Which one will it be? "Canada"? But there 2 versions of S4 in Canada. One is m919v (kinda like T-mobile) and 337 like AT&T
I read somewhere that Canadian TWRP for 337. Goo Manager just suggests Canadian recovery.
Another fact: some 919V owners run TWRP, but nobody specified which version...
So... Canadian or something different? There is no recovery that says it it for SGH-M919V
If it was me I'd use cwm for the T-Mobile s4

Little update...
Flashed TWRP for Canadian S4, installed SlimBean for T-mobile S4...
Everything seems to work, but no T-mobile SIM to really test yet... Will have it in couple days...
Hey, been trying to update my phone but most of the developers say don't use their bootloader and modem if we're from Canada, just wonder which ones are the right one. I'm with Bell and i can't get my Wi-Fi working
Thanks
Look in the srx thread. They have a kernel to fix that, cheers

Are you currently running a 4.3 rom with a 4.3 bootloader? If you are, don't try to flash any ROM that tries to downgrade your bootloader.
You can flash a stock firmware from here: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=SGH-I747M&pcode=BMC#firmware
Did you ever have your wifi working?
I have a note 2 I am running 4.4.2 Probam and love it. I just bought another note 2 for my wife and its 4.1.2. I plan on rooting but probably no custom ROMs. Just debloating on my own. Should I update to 4.3 or stay at where I am?
I have never updated my bootloader and use 4.3 touchwiz ROMs fine with devil kernel. What's my best move from some expertise experience. Not a nooby but not a developer. Thanks

It honestly depends on ur plans for that phone. If u never plan on rooting it I would definitely update to 4.3 using the ota. But that's just a personal opinion. If ur planning on rooting I wouldn't update to 4.3 using the ATT ota. If u update to ota 4.3 anytime u use odin it will trip the Knox counter. And then chance for a warranty replacement if u need it is slim to none. If ur planning on rooting there a a few really solid TW 4.3 roms out there with no worries about Knox.
Sent from my Note 2 running MEAN MUTHA F'N BEAN????
4.1.2 is solid. Since it's your wife's phone, personal experience allows me to say leave it be. Lord help me if Candy Crush doesn't work.....
But you have an option.
A time saver to get to 4.3 and rooted on your current bootloader would be this.,,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2589891
AT&T UCUBMK6 i317 *Odexed* Stock ODIN Note 2
It's already rooted, all you have to do is debloat with Titanium BU or whatever.
From the thread -----> If you *are not* running Official 4.3 (MK6) or newer bootloader: After flashing one of the firmware packages above (the Stock ODIN) flash the bootloader package below in Odin to get wifi working (sorry, no option available for CWM/TWRP). I've included the Odin executable just after if needed.
Bootloader needs to be flashed only once. See post #2 for information on how to check what version of bootloader you have installed.
This is what you will flash:
AT&T i317 ODIN 4.3 UCUBMJ4 (Leak) Bootloader & TZ (AT&T Note 2 ONLY)
This bootloader will not trip Knox.
Thanks. Not worried about warranties. I rooted it at 4.1.2. I'd I update OTA to 4.3 am I still able to put a custom recovery on it? Kinda confused if the 4.3 update locks the bootloader and lastly wasn't the at&t s4 bootloader able to be unlocked when it first came out? Soon after a OTA broke the root. If so then why wouldn't a brand new one out of box be able to have bootloader unlocked just as the phones come with the same firmware version and not updated until bought. Just wondering.

Check this here, it should answer your questions.
I am not too sure about the S4.
I recently got a refurbished Note 2 that came with the 4.3 firmware (my original note 2 broke), MK6 booloader. According to this link, If your phone is running the MK6 bootloader, It is not possible AS OF NOW to revert to the previous bootloader MJ4. You can put CWM recovery and custom roms on your 4.3 build but I don't think they are too stable as of now. I have not tried it yet.
I have at&t note 2 and never updated to 4.3 like I said before but when I flashed a 4.3 tw ROM WiFi wouldnt work like you said. Instead of doing the Odin bootloader thing I just flashed the devel kernel and everything went good. WiFi works flawless. Devil kernel works on toichwiz and aosp. My question is would it be better to do that and leave the bootloader alone?

The note 2 I got last Friday is 4.1.2. The only reason I didn't get the note 3 is this whole bootloader crap. T-Mobile is really starting to look good from here
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using xda app-developers app
To not confuse. I have had my note 2. Just got my wife the other one. I don't think I am going to update it at all. Just to make sure I rooted hers with framaroot and stopped any ota 4.3 from slipping by.

One last question. Not sure if we already touched this or not. On your at&t 4.3 note 2 can you put a custom recovery cwm?
