I have a note 2 I am running 4.4.2 Probam and love it. I just bought another note 2 for my wife and its 4.1.2. I plan on rooting but probably no custom ROMs. Just debloating on my own. Should I update to 4.3 or stay at where I am?
I have never updated my bootloader and use 4.3 touchwiz ROMs fine with devil kernel. What's my best move from some expertise experience. Not a nooby but not a developer. Thanks

It honestly depends on ur plans for that phone. If u never plan on rooting it I would definitely update to 4.3 using the ota. But that's just a personal opinion. If ur planning on rooting I wouldn't update to 4.3 using the ATT ota. If u update to ota 4.3 anytime u use odin it will trip the Knox counter. And then chance for a warranty replacement if u need it is slim to none. If ur planning on rooting there a a few really solid TW 4.3 roms out there with no worries about Knox.

4.1.2 is solid. Since it's your wife's phone, personal experience allows me to say leave it be. Lord help me if Candy Crush doesn't work.....
But you have an option.
A time saver to get to 4.3 and rooted on your current bootloader would be this.,,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2589891
AT&T UCUBMK6 i317 *Odexed* Stock ODIN Note 2
It's already rooted, all you have to do is debloat with Titanium BU or whatever.
From the thread -----> If you *are not* running Official 4.3 (MK6) or newer bootloader: After flashing one of the firmware packages above (the Stock ODIN) flash the bootloader package below in Odin to get wifi working (sorry, no option available for CWM/TWRP). I've included the Odin executable just after if needed.
Bootloader needs to be flashed only once. See post #2 for information on how to check what version of bootloader you have installed.
This is what you will flash:
AT&T i317 ODIN 4.3 UCUBMJ4 (Leak) Bootloader & TZ (AT&T Note 2 ONLY)
This bootloader will not trip Knox.
Thanks. Not worried about warranties. I rooted it at 4.1.2. I'd I update OTA to 4.3 am I still able to put a custom recovery on it? Kinda confused if the 4.3 update locks the bootloader and lastly wasn't the at&t s4 bootloader able to be unlocked when it first came out? Soon after a OTA broke the root. If so then why wouldn't a brand new one out of box be able to have bootloader unlocked just as the phones come with the same firmware version and not updated until bought. Just wondering.

Check this here, it should answer your questions.
I am not too sure about the S4.
I recently got a refurbished Note 2 that came with the 4.3 firmware (my original note 2 broke), MK6 booloader. According to this link, If your phone is running the MK6 bootloader, It is not possible AS OF NOW to revert to the previous bootloader MJ4. You can put CWM recovery and custom roms on your 4.3 build but I don't think they are too stable as of now. I have not tried it yet.
I have at&t note 2 and never updated to 4.3 like I said before but when I flashed a 4.3 tw ROM WiFi wouldnt work like you said. Instead of doing the Odin bootloader thing I just flashed the devel kernel and everything went good. WiFi works flawless. Devil kernel works on toichwiz and aosp. My question is would it be better to do that and leave the bootloader alone?

The note 2 I got last Friday is 4.1.2. The only reason I didn't get the note 3 is this whole bootloader crap. T-Mobile is really starting to look good from here

To not confuse. I have had my note 2. Just got my wife the other one. I don't think I am going to update it at all. Just to make sure I rooted hers with framaroot and stopped any ota 4.3 from slipping by.

One last question. Not sure if we already touched this or not. On your at&t 4.3 note 2 can you put a custom recovery cwm?

I need to give my AT&T S3 to my Mom. Is there a way I can have my phone return to stock condition (no root, stock recovery, data wiped) on the 4.3 OTA? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

If you are already on TW either 4.1.1 or 4.3 then just ODIN back the 4.3 update.

You can only Odin 4.3 on an I747M if you're on AT&T with an I747 there is no .tar.md5 yet thus no Odin and there is no flashing backwards. If you try to overwrite the bootloaders with an older version you get a hard brick. When you try to flash an older firmware let's say 4.0.1 for example it will contain bootloaders, a kernel, a rom and a modem and it will hard brick the phone.
The thread you linked is for a 4.3 leak and runs mj2 bootloaders which is older than his current version of MJB. Also the thread you linked doesn't have any odin flashable files in it. Those are .Zip files flashable through a custom recovery such as TWRP or CWM.
This could have been really bad for someone if they even tried what you linked. Locally it takes 2-4 days and $50.00 to get a phone Jtag'ed.

Okay so today I downloaded the 4.3 rogers update, I am on I747M in Mexico, and made a ROM with the kitchen with no rogers apps and removed Knox, left everything else just added root and busybox. I am thinking I can just flash with twrp but figured I would ask before I actually did it. Without updating the bootloader if I wanted to revert back to 4.1.1 I should be fine to flash back to stock with Odin, right?

You flashed the 4.3 update already? If you did and you flash backwards with an Odin tar that contains a bootloader like the ones from sammobile or Samsung-updates it will brick your phone.

Maybe I wasn't clear I downloaded 4.3 to my computer then using android kitchen I created a custom ROM with root and busybox and removed Knox and the rogers CSC stuff, I have not yet flashed anything on my phone it is my own modified stock 4.1.1, rooted with supersu, my thinking is that if I flash the 4.3 ROM I created to flash via recovery it will not affect the bootloader so if by some miracle telcel were to actually offer an ota to 4.3 in the future that I could use Odin to revert to 4.1.1 stock and ota update at that time. Does that make sense?

I updated to 4.3 BTU using dn3 as the bootloader. I did something wrong and ended up with the bog standard 4.3 without the extra Note 3 stuff and knox enabled.
Basically can I still update the bootloader to dn3?
I'm not bothered about triggering knox because I already have by rooting.
Thankyou

DN3 Is a complete rom and it doesn't flash the bootloader it keeps the old one you had , you should go to the original tread and read it before you decide to start flashing or you will brick your phone.

I just got a note 2 for att, it's on 4.1.2. If i install any custom rom from 4.3 or 4.4, will it update the bootloader in turn installing knox?
Yes. ..If you take an "official"...OTA...you will get Knox. ..
But if you are rooting 4.1.2...and using a custom recovery. ..then you are free to flash the roms found in the development section. ..(no knox)...g

Nope. U only get Knox bootloader from official 4.3 OTA. U can flash any ROM and still stay on your 4.1.2 bootloader.
P.S. just don't flash ROMs which are Knox Dependent. I've read somewhere about a ROM that's Knox dependent.
Smack that thanks button if I helped!

I have a Samsung galaxy note 2 i had liquid smooth on it then i flashed stock 4.1.1 firmware with Odin everything went well im on 4.1.1 then when i go to software update and attempt to install the update everything goes well then it restarts and goes to the At&t upgrade thing and it finishes. Then it reboots and it stays at the Samsung note 2 Screen. I don't know what to do.

The ota from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 mh3 is a bit quirky at times.
If you have not been on 4.3 yet you should read up and decide whether you really want to take the 4.3 ota. Once you have the 4.3 mk6 bootloader there's no going back. There are custom and stock options available here that avoid the need for that bootloader.
