Reboot- phone powers off fully and then boots up.
Hot reboot- phone remains on and reloads configuration files. (Ie build.prop init.d init.rc etc)
someone else may be able to give a more detailed description

A hot reboot means the shell restarts, but the file system remains active.

Hot reboots are typically used when you install a custom status bar icon, mods, and other things pertaining to the shell.

Confusion.
Alright, so I can use hot reboot when i modified some system files while the phone was on, like build.prop or anything like that and reload those files to apply the mods without actually shutting the device down? Sounds cool! Who invented this idea? That guy deserves a thanks!
I error out at 67% but then I get flashing soft keys...what to do next?

i dont wanna scare you but the only time ive heard of soft keys flashing was a hard brick.... you sure you download the right files?
I did. Got the files from the IRC. The new auto lgnpst...im still able to get to download mode just fine so I dont rhink its HB.

i dont mean to bash or be mean man and i know it can be confusing but wrong thread. ALL questions belong under Q and A
besides the obvious (wrong thread) I have the exact same issue. LGNPST keeps stopping at 67% or 85% and not working. Then my device stopped working all together. taking it to the store tomorrow.
I just unplugged my phone, let it reboot than plugged it back in and lgnpst finished up after that. It kept freezing at 85% for me.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda premium
The 67,85% issue is a bug with the software, but it's not an issue. Your device would reboot then and everything would be peachy.
Sent from my LG-LS970 using xda app-developers app
Does your phone do anything while not plugged in? Mine when i bricked didn't. You may need to take out the battery.

Yes with a torx 5 screwdriver and Phillips 00

Ok! Even though this is the wrong forum...again I apologize. I was able to recover lol.
Heres the story: my phone soft bricked. I had zv8 rooted using the AIO tool and unlocked bootloader using freegee app..support the devs! And was lazy lol.
A friend of mine decided it would be a fantastic idea to allow the OTA for ZV9 to install...needless to say the phone went nuts. Into "epileptic mode" as I like to call it.
The phone would not turn on..at all...unless you hooked it up to usb or AC. And even if you connected to such power options...the phone would only flash the the red notification light and the softkeys consistently over and over like a police car lol.
Even after running LGNPST. It would go back to "epileptic mode" after reboot at 67%. I found this to be annoying....since the firmware was flashing without issue.
I hopped on IRC and fiddy and shelnut2 instructed me to do a battery pull. Thank God for them lol.
I got a T5 screwdriver and a small philips, removed both screws from the bottom and then removed the back cover carefully. Once it opened I peeled back the blue clear tape covering the battery connections and removed the two screws under that (used philips). Disconnected the battery for 5 seconds then reconnected and pressed power on button and finally.....PROFIT!!!!!!
Phone booted with stock firmware from LGNPST.

I saw a couple of these threads around xda. Just wanted to share and see what you guys come up with.
Original thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1571645
All you do is just post and complete this sentence "You know you're rooted when.."
Examples:
masaidjet: You know you're rooted when you tell a neighborhood hoe to " wipe her cache "
wscott9903: You know you're rooted when 1/2 of your apps require superuser permission.
feralicious: You know you're rooted when your spouse tells you they're leaving you and taking the kids and you think "perfect timing, (insert dev name here) just released a new ICS ROM".
jayochs: you know you're rooted when your phones buggy as hell lol
putney1477: You know you're rooted when, you husband, wife, significant other gets a new phone and says, don't you dare come near this phone, it works fine!
jackpot08: You know your rooted when when spend more time flashing roms than using your phone"

Hey, new user on the gnex here and I'm using this tool on the computer to help me root/unlock and well pretty much anything but every time I try it boots to the Odin mode and then an error appears or for other services it check the adb status and say not found.
Its just a shot in the dark but I think that its the drivers so how do I get rid of the ones I have installed and get the right ones?

Hi. I own a Sony xperia as. I was on cm 10.1 RC2 and decided to flash 4.1 stock ftf using flashtool. After many failed attempts I flash yakundu's stock zipaligned and rooted ROM after wiping. But I got the boot animation followed by exclamation mark in a triangle.
Luckily the recovery was still accessible so I reflashed cm 10.1 rc 2.
After this I tried several other 4.1 ROMs like trinity etc but the same thing happens again and again.
Any idea how I can go back to 4.1?
Thanks!

flash stock 96 firmware and leave it be

Flashed and waited. The phone just switched off.
Meanwhile tried flashing 10.2 alpha 1 and had no problems.
Sent from my Xperia S using xda app-developers app
Hmm
Well do you have any mounting issues on a stock 96 kernel
Sent from my Xperia S using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
No i was able to mount/unmount system data etc while on doomkernel v6
Sent from my Xperia S using xda app-developers app
Did it boot after it turned off
And what did you do when you first saw it
Sent from my Xperia S using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Not by itself. I had to do it.
Sent from my Xperia S using xda app-developers app
When I first saw it I turned the phone off immediately then booted it again and heaved a sigh of relief when I confirmed that the recovery was working.
Sent from my Xperia S using xda app-developers app
Well charge your battey , load a stock kernel and leave it , and if your lucky you may get it to boot
It is part of the kernel, and must not be disturbed otherwise it may result in a hard brick
Or so rumoured

Will look into it

I first had the same exclamation mark when I flashed back the stock .96 rom, and now having it every time I reboot the phone. As well as phone is ok, I started ignoring it.

Guys, I know what he's talking about. He's not talking about the wrench and spanner logo with the bar at the bottom. It's a different image by itself, which just has an exclamation mark with the phone lying under it. Like the dead Android when your flashing goes wrong. Except, all the flashing was successful, it booted through the kernel, but was unable to boot into system. That's what I think is happening. I tried mounting and unmounting and re mounting his system, but nothing worked. In the recovery, flashing is successful, but it's unable to boot into the system.

The poster is my friend and I saw it first hand. I wanted to clarify that it wasn't the flashing logo, and hoped to find a solution from you guys. Gonna try flash tool and see what happens, though.
