I'm trying to set up my work email to my phone, it's a dot education, and no matter which way I try it comes up with an error.
If I try to set it up under exchange it tells me the protocols are wrong.
Of I try to set it up under normal email it tells me that the email address is wrong.
Is there something I'm missing because all of my coworkers have it set up (mostly iPhones) so I know it's possible.
Do I need a 3rd party app or some other method?

Grrrr I cant stand exchange. I work for sprint so alot of customers come in asking how to set it up. The thing is, in most cases, thats not something any carrier or manufacturer can answer; only your school and employer have the appropriate server setting at hand. If you have the proper information, and its still erroring, I would contact your schools tech department. Most teachers have access to someone who helps them set up their work email, so students shluld habe an equivalent.

I am trying to set up an Evo for one of the managers at my company
I used all the same settings (other than login/pass obviously) as the settings for my Evo to connect to my work account....
Here's the problem I am having.
I am trying to set it up as a POP account. But it always comes back saying that it had a problem connecting.
On the email server side (I am also the network admin) I can see that the phone is trying to connect, but it never sends the login credentials.
From this phone, I tell it to update and the email server displays the IP address and "Logging On" and just sticks there until it times out.
On MY Evo (same settings in email client) the server displays "Logging On" for approx 1 second, then displays my login.
This tells me that it is a problem with the new Evo, and not server configuration.
The only difference I can find is that my Evo, and one other Evo that are currently working correctly are Hardware Version 0003, where the one that is giving me problems is Hardware Version 0004.
From everything I have read, the only difference betwwen the 0003 and the 0004 is the camera.
Has anyone else experienced this? This phone is for the VP of Operations so my ass is kinda on the line here.
Sorry if this post seems a little scatterbrained, but thats just how my head is working right now because of this situation.
Can you login with his account on your phone?
Have you tried your account on his phone?
I highly doubt this is a phone problem.
Is wifi on? I know its a dumb question but as weird as it sounds when wifi is on the email app gets angry.

saw an app called k9 in the market for mail. Might wanna check it out. Sorry I couldn't help more. If anything I bumped this thread for ya.
There is a mail app called Spider Mail I believe that works well. I had a problem with my student e-mail account and for some reason that bypassed it.
The above steps sound reasonable to try.
However, reason for my posting is, what is the justification for going POP over imap? Or do you intend on leaving the messages on the server?
As for K9, it's one of the better more robust email clients for android. Updates are released at least once a week on their google development site. My experience with it is strictly in an imap environment. It works exceptionally well in this config. Can't comment on its pop implementation.
His login works from mine.
No accounts work from his.
Wifi off for initial configuration. Have to make sure it resolves the address correctly over mobile connection instead of caching how the mail server address resolves within my network.
Messages will remain on server, pop3 is fine (and is the configuration that is working on my evo)
I want to retain the stock mail app, makes support easier if everyone is set up the same.
Thanks for all the responses. I'm thinking a factory reset may be in order.
You could try installing alogcat, attempt the server connection, then review the phone's log to see what errors are detected.

thanks, I will give this a shot.
Thanks for all the help. The problem ended up not being the phone at all. It was a really screwy problem with active directory.

Lol. Trust me, wasn't my decision to use any Microsoft products. I inherited it from my predecessor. And I have yet to find a reliable way to migrate away from exchange.
I might be the only one having this issue, but the default email app for Exchange doesn't keep the words together when it goes to the next line.
Here is an excerpt from an email:
"In todays fast paced business environm
ent, we all have to wear multiple hats to
remain competitive in this challenging ec
onomy."
See how the words just continue on the next line?
I can't find a setting to fix this.
And if I can't get this fixed, is there any other *good* apps other than touchdown to connect through activesync?
Mine doesnt seem to have this problem. I not sure what would be causing it for you.

I have the same issue with default Email app. I also see the full headers which make reading email really difficult. The actual email text is hard find with all the header and other text.
I use Exchange Active Sync adapter to connect to Lotus Notes email. Never had problems with other Android stock emaill apps.
I tried other Exchange email apps and have settled down with Moxier Mail.
Edit: I tried resetting the account on stock email app but it didn't help.
Hope this helps.
Arvin
Resetting the accounts didn't help mine either. I can't wait until this thing is rooted...
Found the *kinda* fix. If you set the phone to download the entire message instead of just 2k or 100k or whatever, then it fixes the behavior. It's only when you download a partial message that words are broken onto the next line.
Hi Guys.
yesterday I helped a friend upgrade her galaxy nexus to JB, and I asked her whether she had anything important on her phone she said no.
Turns out I wiped the phone, and when i ask her to sign to her google account to bring her contacts she doesnt know her gmail!
We try to use google account recovery using her email addresses but turns out none of them were used when the new account was setup.
I did take an application backup with halaxy nexus toolkit, but it seems it's just that. apps with no google account info.
Anyone has any idea that might help me? I'd really appreaciate it.
Hire a nice hacker to hack the password, then change it. Fast.

yeah I did, but they might take a while.
When I set her up, we didnt put any security questions or anything, so it'll be very difficult to recover through google.
I'm thinking whether somehow I can have a look at the apks or the .bak file we took, and find the username at least , in this way at least
I can tell google where to look
Normally you would have had to use a secondary email address when signing up for Gmail for password reset reasons. Is there an option for that when trying to reset password?

We had a try at the password recovery using an email address that we think it's correct (usual combination of name/birth year etc)
Once you go into the gmail password recovery page It shows you part of the email address (the domain is ok but the rest is blacked out)
I recognize the domain name being something I usually use as a fake email when I'm trying something quickly. so I'm pretty sure we got her email address right now.
Unfortunately due to the domain being fake I can't recover her password using that email address.
I remember writing her newly created email and password in a piece of paper and saying. once you get home change the password and update all your details to the correct. ( well that didn't happen :-/ )
If she's ever signed in through her PC and saved her passwords through her browser then you could recover it from the saved passwords list.

I hope for your own sake, that she didn't just store her contacts locally. I saw that many times, especially women usually don't bother and keep hacking their numbers in just like that, without thinking about setting up sync or contact cloud beforehand. Good luck!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Any chance that she has all her contacts stored on her SIM card?
If so, just create a new Google account and restore her apps...
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Actually, when she got the new phone, I think the way I copied all the contacts from her older phone was into the SIM, put the old SIM into the new phone and imported them.. (my memory is bad, but that kinda makes sense for coming from a dumbphone to an android)
I just asked her and she might still have the old phone and the old SIM. so maybe there is a chance there, gotta wait for her to go home and try to find it..
This will definitely teach me a lesson.
take a freaking nandroid, whatever your friends say!
PS: I reckon I'm stressing more about this than she is.. if it happened to me i'd be a royal pain in the bum.

I doubt the battery app is causing it. The only problem I had with exchange is that Comcast sometimes did not like my exchange servers.

try manual setup with domain\username

You might need manual setup. See if you need to use the domain\username, password and then your mail.schooldomain.com server details.
you can also check the ActiveSync setup by going to - https://www.testexchangeconnectivity.com/
if his school is giving him android directions then as is deff setup. now what you say about the domain\ is very possible but i doubt it because i am using the same rom as him and administrate an exchange 2010 server which has more security reqs as far as stuff like that goes so other than a mistyped key idk what the problem for him could be unless they are requiring caps in username.
My guess would be that you're using server/username as opposed to server\username. Again, only a guess.

I recently set up my S3 to access my company's Exchange server. I also had a hard time setting it up initially and had to do a manual setup.
Since you are getting both a username and password error first make sure that you are using the right exchange server address.
For me it is something like
exch2010.servername.com .
Next you should make sure that your user name is preceded by your domain name. In my case my server name and domain name are the same.
So it should look something like.
domain\username
Hope this helps.

Just to add on here. My server name and domain name are also the same however the trick that works for me is that i cannot put in my domain name prior to my username, if i do it will fail to connect. I do have to input the backslash prior to my username though or again it will fail to connect. Also is your IT dept using a security policy on the server side to control mobile device access to Activesync? I know from my own experience that if you use a security policy to prevent unprovisioned devices from accessing the Activesync account the user will see an "incorrect password error repeatedly, at least on some phones like the iPhone for instance.

is there anyway where i can download the ssl library ? i guess its something to do with it ... i give up trying on exchange, trying out on IMAP..but still gives error saying Can't safely connect to server.(javax.net.ssl.SSLProtocolException: SSL handshake aborted: ssl=0x5c057350. Failure in SSL libary, usally a protocol error. error:140770FC
thnks
there has been a lot of good feedback and suggestion to resolving this issue ... and if none of this advice is working still... i'd nandroid (back it up), wipe it all, and go stock. after that if you're still having an issue then possibly their setup is not working

I've never had a problem with stock email, I mainly use IMAP but have occasionally set pop. I did however have to go to my email provider settings and tick allow IMAP.
I have used K9 before which seemed OK, not sure how frequently it'll check though

If I'm honest it sounds like somewhere you're entering the wrong settings
I use the stock mail app for my work emails from without issue.
Thing is these pop servers are really sensitive to the ports you try to use and what type of encryption you use etc, get one wrong and it will fail
Have you got another working email client on a pc or something that you can literally just copy the settings from, ports, encryption and all?

Does it give any errors when connecting?
Password definitely correct? Normally greyed out otherwise so I guess there's a slight slight chance that that's wrong? Can you reset it and try again, just to be sure? Unless of course the password you're trying works elsewhere like Web mail etc

Hi just done this again and seems to be working, but one more question where do i change the sound for email alerts ?
goto normal settings (not email settings)>sound>notification sound
i could swear the old mail app used to let it have a separate sound of its own though.. weird.
