Hi Guys.
yesterday I helped a friend upgrade her galaxy nexus to JB, and I asked her whether she had anything important on her phone she said no.
Turns out I wiped the phone, and when i ask her to sign to her google account to bring her contacts she doesnt know her gmail!
We try to use google account recovery using her email addresses but turns out none of them were used when the new account was setup.
I did take an application backup with halaxy nexus toolkit, but it seems it's just that. apps with no google account info.
Anyone has any idea that might help me? I'd really appreaciate it.
Hire a nice hacker to hack the password, then change it. Fast.

yeah I did, but they might take a while.
When I set her up, we didnt put any security questions or anything, so it'll be very difficult to recover through google.
I'm thinking whether somehow I can have a look at the apks or the .bak file we took, and find the username at least , in this way at least
I can tell google where to look
Normally you would have had to use a secondary email address when signing up for Gmail for password reset reasons. Is there an option for that when trying to reset password?

We had a try at the password recovery using an email address that we think it's correct (usual combination of name/birth year etc)
Once you go into the gmail password recovery page It shows you part of the email address (the domain is ok but the rest is blacked out)
I recognize the domain name being something I usually use as a fake email when I'm trying something quickly. so I'm pretty sure we got her email address right now.
Unfortunately due to the domain being fake I can't recover her password using that email address.
I remember writing her newly created email and password in a piece of paper and saying. once you get home change the password and update all your details to the correct. ( well that didn't happen :-/ )
If she's ever signed in through her PC and saved her passwords through her browser then you could recover it from the saved passwords list.

I hope for your own sake, that she didn't just store her contacts locally. I saw that many times, especially women usually don't bother and keep hacking their numbers in just like that, without thinking about setting up sync or contact cloud beforehand. Good luck!

Any chance that she has all her contacts stored on her SIM card?
If so, just create a new Google account and restore her apps...
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Actually, when she got the new phone, I think the way I copied all the contacts from her older phone was into the SIM, put the old SIM into the new phone and imported them.. (my memory is bad, but that kinda makes sense for coming from a dumbphone to an android)
I just asked her and she might still have the old phone and the old SIM. so maybe there is a chance there, gotta wait for her to go home and try to find it..
This will definitely teach me a lesson.
take a freaking nandroid, whatever your friends say!
PS: I reckon I'm stressing more about this than she is.. if it happened to me i'd be a royal pain in the bum.

And I know what you mean, messing with other peoples phones is a bit more stressful than if you mess up your own.

I'm a Sprint employee and I have a customer who's kids set a lock code that they forgot and she doesn't know her gmail password AND she wasn't able to retrieve her password. Besides resetting the phone and making a new gmail, is there any way to get back into the phone??
Nope. I have yet to find where in /data the password is stored, and none of the devs I've talked to know, either. Your only choice is to wipe the phone.
Is the phone rooted (slim chance, I suspect)? If so, would restoring a nand backup work? Just thinking out loud......
Try reseting the Google password online.

She tried the gmail password recovery, but she didn't know the answer to her security question even though she bought the phone and made the account 2 weeks ago. Thanks for your help guys. I guess I'll have to reset her phone and she'll lose her contacts.

Well if she ever manages to remember the password or answer to her security question she'll get her contacts back. Tell her to take some more vitamin B, helps with memory lol.

I would prefer that this question remain unanswered. I'm not calling the OP a criminal, but this is exactly what I would do if I just stole a phone that was locked.
I don't want the ability to defeat the security of my phone to be easily accessible.
If someone is stupid enough to forget thier gmail password, the answer to their security question, and allow their kids to set a lock should not be using a smart phone. Just reset her phone and she can start over.

Just wanted to interject here, and say we get at least 1 or 2 customers a week who this happens to. They'll get their phone in a store where the rep sets their Gmail up for them, or they're rushed through the process in store, and forget the info.
Our internal support system doesn't get into EVERY SINGLE THING that can happen, or will give "official" solutions to things. I have OFTEN referred to third party sites to fix issues, so I don't doubt this guy for a second.
edit: This is all from within a retail store, as a rep or in-store technician, I'm not sure if phone tech support would refer to a site such as this, but in the store we exhaust every resource we can.
Found a flaw in my evos security. Maybe is just mine or froyo. My patern security lock opens with any patern I input right after a boot or battery pull. This happens with every custom froyo rom I try. I tried fresh, cyanogen, omj, and damagecontrol. Sometimes it dosnt do it but if I do a fast random swipe of any pattern it opens. I'm in the process of making a video.......help fear for my security!
Found flaw. Titanium backup. The app is great and all and I love it. The problem is that titanium backs up my patern and I guess thers a certain flaw or conflicts when the backup and the original security interact. I fix this by making a new pattern or re entering the patern. But is alot less troubling by just not backing up HTC screen lock

when i worked at sprint alot of my stupid arse coworkers would setup gmail for people that didn't have it and not tell the customer...dont ask.... also after working in retail for 5 years lemme tell you something
People are fraggin stupid, not some of them, but like 90%, so when you look at your intelligent friends, look at them with some more respect, cause most people are completely retarded haha.
Anyhow, I can also tell you as an X sprint employee...and probably one of the most empathetic employee's and my store I would never care this much to ask on a forum, so I call BS as well.
Besides come on sprint rep, you should know damn well there aint no way around it, not unless your a super hacker.
lock code, gmail and the security questions, you mean the one like, whats your dogs name? LIES!
i work with a guy that has a hero and was drunk playing with phone and set a lock pattern. he doesn't know his gmail password either and had to go to sprint store and have it reset. lost contacts.
I say that you buy a google phone, you should be a google customer with an account. to be so stupid you forget your password is just lame. to buy a device for cool factor and not know how to use it is stupid. there should be a smart test required before someone is allowed to purchase a smartphone.
OP, make your customers download lookout from market. it saves contacts, and make them use an email they already use on daily basis and have the password the same as the password for their sprint account. then if they forget password, it is same as their account with same email provided with account.

I know, and everyone in my store knows there's no way around it... we don't post to forums asking, but we do read forums for info... but I've used forums to solve several issues on phones that probably goes against policies, like using JL Commander on Blackberries, installing .cab files on WinMo phones to fix small registry issues, etc. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to make the customer happy... but no, I nor anyone I've worked with have POSTED, just read.
if you are rooted there is a way around the pattern unlock screen. Hell it might work if you're not rooted.
Code:
adb -d shell
# sqlite3 data/data/com.android.providers.settings/databases/settings.db
sqlite> update system set value=0 where name='lock_pattern_autolock';
sqlite> .exit
# exit
reboot and tada
At least this works on the hero. It removes the pattern lockscreen

So one nite i was drunk, got out of truck (not driving) and went to bed. Next AM at hotel i couldn't find phone. Because i am smart enough to remember my gmail password (been using it for years) first thing i did was go online and change my password. Phone could no longer sync and gave me a minor sense of security. Found phone in a co-workers hotel room later that nite. I then changed my password back.
For those that wouldn't do the same when they lost or had their phone stollen, you just presented a way for the person that has it access to their device.
Simple..... you forgot your lock pattern or pin (like you need a phone like this then) if you also forgot your email and password, then start over and lesson learned. But to provide this kind of info for a theif or not so honest person access to a phone that doesn't belong to them is just wrong.

Just guessing...since you are working with /data, you would not need root. Or at least not nand unlocked. I don't believe data is a protected directory.

The thing is that this information can be found by anyone or you could do a master reset and would still be able to use the phone. I just put this up there because people were saying there was no way to get around this stuff and there are. In no way do I condone using this info for illegal or dishonest use.
Hola lads and lasses,
So I originally set my Epic up on my personal gmail account. Four months later I'd like to move over to my GApps account but in order to remove the gmail it's saying I have to return the phone to factory default. A couple questions. Really? I can't just switch and keep both? Why (or is that moot)? Next question: what's going to happen, what am I going to lose? How should I prepare (I already moved all contacts over to the GApps acct)? Anything else to consider? I have not rooted but will if I must.
Thanks!
T
I never tried but can't you add the second account and switch it to default first?

Good question. How do you set a default profile? I don't see that setting anywhere.
I'm not one to be giving advice here, but I am kinda in the same boat. I have a samsung moment on cricket I bought from craigs that has the last owners gmail account on it. I cant reset the phone as from what I heard ill lose the flash. Ne way, from what I read and gathered, but have not tried yet, is to z4root, then download titanium backup, remove gmail app from phone with tb, then download the gmail app from the market. Then log in and it should re ask for an account. I'm gonna do it tommorow and I can let you know if it worked or not.
Don't know I was guessing (hoping for you) lol. Like I said never tried it but the way they word it when you try to delete the main account that's what it sound like. I came across that when I sold my moment so the reset was gonna happen any way

Hello
I have a T-Mobile Galaxy S2 [NOT updated to ICS, still running on gingerbread]
last night I put a password or pin on the phone under the security section, but now I cannot remember it. I asked T-mobile if they could reset it, however, the only thing they offered to do was guide me through a factory reset, which I do not want to do.
Is there any way to retrieve the password/pin?
thanks
PS - Pls don't tell me to reset the phone, as i already have been given that option

Flash ics through odin...You won't lose any media. You will lose everything else though.
Or factory reset...those are your only options at this point. Unless you see a button on your local screen that says forgot password then you can enter your gmail. But other then that, not much anybody can do as far as i know

If you can figure out which file is the security file and all that... I guess you can always flash/push a "stock" one to it, which should remove the password. This is only theoretical. I don't know which file it is either.

Usually you don't... its called being shady and might not be his phone or possibly a found or stolen device.
Most of us on here have our stuff backed up and a factory reset isn't a big deal. Now some of us don't have our apps backed up, but have our contacts and such backed up thru Google. Every time I see these threads they generally get shut down by a mod..

OK so I had an instagram account get flagged and banned. This happened before about 2 months ago but all i did was make a new account with a fake email and it worked. I know iphone users have to go switch thier phones or do a factory reset at the store or something. So i thought i was good. Well now it seems the program knows when your phone is YOUR PHONE . Even if i had another account tha wasnt banned I wouldnt be able to get in. So i tried changing my Android Id with Titanium Backup Pro and it didnt work. That led me to believe it is the MEID i have to change maybe.......
Im not sure but i really do love instagram and i honestly think HATERS are flagging my pics because none of them are complete nudity and if its close its more of a photography/artwork nudity then porn ...
any help would be appreciated even suggestions .. lets work .. and thanks in advance
You could contact the instagram admins to find out why you got banned and if there is an appeals process to get your account back.
Or you could take your lumps like an adult and accept the fact that you violated their t&c.

but im not worried about getting my account back..
but it basically banned MY PHONE not my account .. bc i had more than one account for business purposes and now i cant sign into that one on this phone
ive been banned and all i had to do was make a new account ... i know iphone users have to factory reset thier phone or take it to the apple store ..
ive factory reset , flashed a different rom, use titanium backup to change android id ... used a paid app to change android id ..... nothing ..... this is retarted of them as a company why not just delete the account ... what access did they have to ban my entire phone .. HOW DOES IT EVN KNOW ITS MY PHONE

Lol Thanks .. i dont know what it does but I got my phone to be able to accept accounts. Im not 100% sure but ithink it puts a file called .profig.os on your sd card root so it can know that its your phone but i basically formatted my sd card and ODINED to fc19 and signed in with a different gmail for the initial setup
so it either has to do with the gmail u use with the inital setup and the market
or its that file bc "profig" looks alot like profile instagram abbreviated
but thanks for the tip anyway bc i would of been SOL if i changed my MEID probably
Yes it's the profig that is the one doing that I just kept deleting it every time I logged in thanks very much for this and God instagram sucks for banning both accounts even tho I only did "immoral"stuff on one

It's an Instagram issue that must be taken up with Instagram support.
Rotted Users.
Here is a fix for instagram banning your device.
ROOTED USERS ONLY!
Step 1 : Find a none stock rom or a different rom from what you are useing.
example : Stock LG G2 rom to AOSP
Step 2: Flash the new rom no dirty flash complete wipe.
Step 3: Create a new account with a new email.
Step 4: http://www.bluestacks.com/ i request downloading this VMWARE type of android to create your instagram account.
Alright so i been going nuts trying to figure out why when i sign in a new device it gets full access to all my google account information. I have a few android phone in the the house all using different google address so its fine. But recently purchased a new tablet and both me and my brother signed in which is fine. Installed all the apps that were purchased from the Play Store and this is were the problem is.
When you sign in once the tablet now has access to everything related to that google account and no verification is asked or prompts to login. I don't want my brother reading my emails and he is the same it makes no sense why you enter it once and the device has access to everything. I would like to control what features of my google account a device has access too.
I just want to be able to install purchased apps on the tablet and nothing more, is this possible?
Hahahah. Jebise. Haha. Bravo on the nik.
AFAIK, no is the answer to ur question. Google is said to be working on multiple user accounts. Maybe an app is out on play store that locks ur email app but i havent heard of it.
PS. Pusti brata neka cita email naucice nesto novo. Heheh.

I know what it means now but anyways back to OP.
That is really dump. This is why we never shared accounts, I don't want to purchase the same apps again. I guess Apple has it right with the AppStore because it prompts for a password to install apps and there is no link to email.

yeah but if you go into the app, you can still manually see emails and such even if sync is disabled. it seems I have to remove my account or use TB which is a pain with multiple devices and that not even including updates.
After some thinking I think I will just have to create a new google account just for purchasing apps and nothing else. Sad google has no real control on this.
