I will most likely use this phone on Simple Mobile which uses tmobiles towers so the obvious choice would be the tmobile version, but would i benefit in any way by getting the unlocked version? Who is the unlocked version branded by? I dont want to make a mistake because a month ago i was about to get the unlocked iphone for my girl and run it on simple mobile until thankfully you guys tipped me off that the unlocked iphone was actually an at&t branded phone and will not get 4g speeds on simple mobile.
So, who is the unlocked version of the gs3 branded by? And which one should i get, tmobile gs3 or unlocked gs3?
International Sgs3 is branded by Samsung. I believe you would not get 4g, because of the different frequencies. The other option would be the Korean version of the sgs3. I do not know if that works though.
T-mobile is gonna be updating their 1900mhz which means the international s3 will get 3g data and iPhone users same...

So let me get this straight, the international gs3 is the unlocked version?

Well in this case what is different between the tmobile version and the unlocked version. Im not understanding, sorry. If I get the tmobile version, would i be able to use it the same way the unlocked version can be used?

International is unlocked. It will not get anything more than 2G on tmobile.

Looking to move over to T-Mobile prepaid from Verizon in the near future. I've been doing all sorts of reading. Basically my question is if I buy an unlocked Galaxy S3 off of Amazon or wherever else, will the sim card work, and will I get 4g speeds? Thanks.
Yes, if you get the T-Mobile version of the phone. If you get any other version, you will not likely get 4G speeds on T-Mobile.
The unlocked one on Amazon is probably the UK version. Make sure it is the T-Mobile version.

Thanks for the responses. The one on amazon says GSM and the model number is listed as GT-I999RWDBTU. Would this be the T-Mobile version?
T Mobile version is SGH-T999 or just T999

Ok thank you.
Never mind.
I understand the launch is likely tomorrow, or in the next few days. Despite this, Rogers and actually most of the other major Canadian carriers run on the same bands for GSM, 3G and LTE as AT&T. I know for other Samsung devices, this has meant a shared forum for all these carriers. Does anyone know if this will be the case for the Note II as well?
I guess we will have to wait and check our model #s. It would be a shame though for users to assume that because their radios might be the same, that their model is the same, and they brick their device (assuming they would in fact be different).
If anyone can enlighten me on the situation, let me know.
Thanks,
Kiwinadians
Not sure about Bell or Telus but Rogers is definitely using the at&t variant, model numbers match. Wind, Mobilicity and Videotron are going to be using T-Mobile's variant with AWS HSPA.

Thanks for the reply. This was the assumption I was making based on what I know about Canadian network frequencies, but you know what 'ass'uming does. Bell & Telus are usually similar, but I think they run a different lower freq. band for LTE (don't quote me on this, I'm thinking back to a wiki reference from a while ago).
I'm a 7-11 speakout user, so for me its the Rogers network, so I'll buy the non-contract Rogers variant. Thank goodness it also seems to be the cheapest!
Cheers
I placed my order with Rogers today for a.corporate account can't wait

according to wikipedia the telus, bell, rogers variants are all SGH-i317M. seems to me that this will be the same phone as the AT&T version, with just an M to signify its the Canadian version.
Previous samsung phones with the M have been exactly the same hardware, just branded to the Canadian carrier, which should mean that mods/roms etc designed for the AT&T variant would work just fine for us Canadians.

Samsung Galaxy Note II superphone (SGH-I317M) - launch delay
Highlight:
"Samsung will roll out a series of launch activities starting October 30 for the official release of the Samsung Galaxy Note II superphone in Canada. However, due to global product delays, Bell will begin shipping product to channels starting Wednesday October 31st. Please begin selling upon receipt of inventory."
Then he adds:
"Mobile DNA Hi James Fan really hope Bell could start processing the shipment. In addition to the global delay, bell also move there warehouse to a new location which is causing huge delay for all the shipments : ("

Pretty pathetic for a company to launch a product and have absolutely zero stock on hand to sell. Samsung really fudged things here. A lot of pissed off posts on their Facebook page.
I just ordered mine yesterday through rogers, I will post the information once I get it. Does anyone actually have a note 2 in Canada from one the carriers?

White Samsung headphones. No logos (Carriers in Canada don't put logos on phones anymore and haven't for a few years now )
does the store allow you to buy the phone full price without a plan?

Would it be better to get an international s4 and unlock to use on att or should I get an att s4 instead?

you can get one from att cheaper subsidized but you will be locked in for two. years.. If you use lte you only have a choice to get att version as internation will not work with let..
The International has an octacore while the att will only have a quad because of lte

Not true. Some international markets will receive lte versions. I'm unsure of the processor included with them. It seems Europe is starting to upgrade their networks to lte

Correct. You will have to be knowledgeable of the different model numbers (i95XX,etc) and know which one(s) are lte. I'm not sure of any of these devices hardware spec differences yet. Soon.
Locked since its not related to ATT SGS3. Use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2192630
so i opened up my t889v today and i can confirm to whoever was worried about our canadian phone having any hardware differences with the american counterparts that we have the exact same phones!
all the boards on my t889v says i317/t889 (which also means our phone is the same as the a&tt variant)
That's why we can use Att sim card with tmo
