Since the AT&T GSIII) and T-mobile GSIII) are basically the same phone I wounder if the AT&T version will work on T-mobile 3G/4G. Similar to the way the AT&T Galaxy Note works on T-mobile 3G/4G. I was gone probably by the phone out right to use on T-mobile. AT&T has it for 550.00 where as T-mobile has it for 630.00.
I don't think so because att phone doesn't support mobile's aws band but idk if you could flash a modem. I did that on my note but the speeds were horrible. But yea t-mobile is expensive I just paid 680$ for my s3 today at my retail store..

I don't know, i'm wondering the same thing. the phones are identical. I think it's a very high possibility that there will be rom/radio/ kernal combinations in the future that will cater to t mobile radios that we will easily be able to flash. Just unlocked mine, I think i'm gonna have faith in US GSIII development, identical hardware and eventual full cross compatibility.
As far as I know, the Att has an lte modem and the tmo doesn't. I read that even when tmo launches LTE it won't work with the gs3. But, the tmo has att hspa+ support 1700mhz and should work with att 3g no problem.

Has anybody tried popping a Tmobile sim in an AT&T GS III?
Sent from my HTC Incredible S using xda premium
The modem for lte or hspa+ is built into the msm8960. In theory they should be interchangeable
Would be interesting experiment for someone with rooted phone to try loading the alternative kernel/baseband then applicable sim.
Keeping fingers crossed,

Think it was done by tsp and failed. Also how do you know the mms8960 works on T-Mobile's 1700 band? So far no evidence.

There is snapdragon s4 whitepaper that states modem can do lte cat3, and dc-hspa+ cat24.
Elsewhere states that the rf for common freqs range 700-2600.
Do not have link handy.but try developer.qualcomm.com

What I don't get is why t-mobile would use a different chipset if the 747's msm8960 was compatible with 1700 aws. Especially since t-mobile is spending billions to refarm right now to make all gsm devices compatible with their network. It just doesn't make sense. Until there's confirmation, there are reasons to have doubts.

There are some reports on xda that t999 variant used the msm8260 which is similar chipset but NO LTE.
I would be interested in link wrt tsp attempt at baseband flash, especially which s3 was used.
I find surprising samsung would bother with these build variants.
Does not bode well for FM....

He spoke about trying to flash the t-mobile s3 radio in another thread earlier with no results. Returned his and ordered the t-mobile variant. I ordered a skyrocket myself. So far it doesn't look good. But of course with radios nothing is concrete. All we can do is flash their files and hope something sticks.

Has anyone tried injecting the modem.bin of T999 to the i747M CWM flash ready file and has their phone network unlocked with T-Moblie/Mobilicity/Wind sim?
There are at least two "versions" of the MSM8960, one with the LTE support, one without. The TMO version has the MSM8260A modem, which can be verified with getprop from the terminal. In essence, the TMO version does have the newer S4 (Krait) CPU, but it does lack the LTE hardware. So, no, the phones are not identical. The TMO version does support AT&T HSPA frequencies though, but the ATT version does not (at least in the default configuration) support TMO HSPA frequencies. Whether that can be changed or not, I don't know.
From "getprop" in terminal:
ro.board.platform - msm8960
ril.modem.board - msm8260a
What does the AT&T version say?
When Amazon first posted the AT&T version on their site I read a review about it saying it would work on T-Mobiles network for voice but not data.

What they undoubtedly meant was that you would only get plain old GSM (EDGE, GPRS, etc.) with the AT&T version on T-Mobile, due to the lack of proper frequency support for T-Mobile's network. Still voice and data, just slow as hell by today's standards. However, the T-Mobile version fully supports AT&T frequencies for HSPA (no LTE though).
Many probably noticed that fido in canada has turned on its LTE. I jusy found out that they only have regular sized sim available at retail store. Has anyone tried putting this sim in galaxys3 rogers version? Would it work just like or sim if we cut it up to fit in the phone?
Sent from my SGH-I747M using xda app-developers app
Hey,
Just to clear things up, you'll first need to unlock the phone (obviously) .. Even if fido is a Rogers sub brand.
I contacted fido customer rep and they said it should work. And as you mentioned, they only have the regular sim size.
However, I went to the Montreal flagship fido store over the weekend, and the sales rep confirmed it will work and they are getting the LTE micro sim sometime this week.
I'll go buy it as soon as it's available, and I'll keep you guys posted.

Thanks for reply,, as matter of fact, roger galaxy s3s works with fido sim.
Plus i just got the regular sized sim, and cut it with sim cutter. It works very well on my galaxy s3. It shows lte where 4g icon should be.

I have also had good success cutting regular SIMs with a kitchen knife and scissor using online templates (just google Micro-SIM template).
Just print the template, put the regular SIM on the template and then cut where the lines are. I have done this 4-5 times with only 1 failure (my first...I think I used too much force).
Just wanted to let you guys know that LTE works beautifully on an unlocked ATT SIII.
so what if we flash an att rom that takes advantage of the lte radio in the phone (if we truly have one in the tmo version)
Now i am not sure on that. Maybe you should try
Gotta be worth a shot:thumbup:

The Tmobile S3 does NOT have an LTE radio...
not sure why you are suggesting to people to flash a ATT rom on the T-999...

identical hardware... it was just an idea. nobody can get the lte radio myth straight, so idk what to believe.
Maybe a dumb question but arent radios flashable? Beings as the hardware is the same coukdnt we flash an att radio and rom and use our phones like they were an unlocked att version

Yes it can be done but i have had bad experiences with radios causing serious OS issues. If someone had an S III to test with that would be great.
If you flash a att radio on a tmobile phone, You might be dealing with a serious brick.
I'm confused as to why this is up and getting attention lol? I might just be brain farting but, the person posts about his AT&T phone, with at&t bands (LTE) that they work on LTE??? I'm confused as to why this is news? Enlighten me maybe...

April Fools with a bricked S3! Don't know if I should laugh or cry...
Think the OP was just stating that his ATT S3 is working on TMO's LTE network...
The ATT has different hardware than the TMO S3...its not the radio software thats the issue...its the lack of a LTE antennae on the T-999
I believe the latest software update that tmo rolled out took out the LTE software that was in previous builds
While I don't thing we will get lte on our phones the thought of the hardware being different is hard to swallow. One of Samsung's deal with the s3 was hardware unity. With this they have one plant, one run to manufactur phones and when a carrier need a stock of phone all that was needed was software. This idea of a different model just for tmobile is hard for me to believe.
Once again I still don't see lte comung for us, so please don't assume I am giving any hope to get it

The Tmobile S3 has the exact same hardware as all the other US carriers including the antenna and modem, Tmobile just decided to use different lte bands. They will not enable the lte on the Tmobile S3.

If ATT S3 LTE can work on TMOB LTE network and T999 with same chip as ATT version.
sounds like TMOB trying to prevent S3 user to pull down they trial run LTE network.
and also prevent those people not in those trial site switch over other carrier.
I thought this was confirm a long time ago that the tmobile s3 doesnt support lte, As of an unlock att s3 to work on tmobile lte may be possible. if that the case It will be better off to sale or trade your tmobile s3 with an att version of it and you will have a s3 with lte
There will be a new s3 lte version of this phone at the end of this month...the current s3 is not the same as the att one so we will not have lte...

hey I just bought a gs4 online today it says t-mobile on the back cover but is there anyway I can find out via a code on the phone if it's T-mobile US or T-mobile International?
Go into settings, about, and look at the build. If it says m919 somewhere in there it should be the us version.
My Lumia international version was also labeled as deutsche telekom, so just having tmobile should be clue enough I would imagine.

Hello Everyone
I have a newb question so please dont judge
I have an unlocked and rooted T889V which i got from Wind Mobile. I have decided to gift it to my wife
as she is fed up with her little S3 mini and the crappy camera. She is currently with Rogers however she
does not have data or plan on using the internet. She will be sticking to Wifi as she either uses it home or at work.
Will this phone work with Rogers to make calls and send text messages or do i need to flash a different modem?
Thanks!
Yes, but the phone will need to be unlocked.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
Just unlock it. Insert Rogers SIM. Done.
No need to bother with enabling LTE since she won't be using data on it.
Although I am *very* curious to know if the (upcoming official) 4.3 update activates it since Vidéotron should be flipping the switch on their own LTE deploy soon-ish.
Sent from my SGH-T889V using xda app-developers app
Yup its already unlocked she just needs to buy a micro sim card cause hers is the regular big one. Thanks for the help guys.
