Does anyone here think that its possible to get this rom ported to the Evo 4g. I mean all that would need to be fixed are the apk's and a little bit of touch ups here and there. Since the resolution matches the Evo's.
It would be sweet!
touchwiz .... no thanks
The phone looks awesome cuz of the processor, but touchwiz doesnt add much to stock android

Toouchwiz is the only way you can get a decent launcher with 4 icons in the dock and the sms application is very good looking.
HOnestly only thing Touchwiz (Samsung Android Phones Period honestly) has that I wuld be interested in is the music player.
Outside of that, I'll pass.
But for those who like it, I think it would be awesome for them.
This is XDA, just about anything is possible!!!!

Hold on guys, I think Touchwiz 4.0 is something different. The live tiles, widgets, zoom effects, etc are pretty nifty. 4.0 looks nothing like Touchwiz on current Galaxy devices.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p87lPeVXdCg
Touchwiz 4.0 doesn't look quite as bad.
It looks as if they have abandoned those dreadful taskbar icons? That would be a huge plus
Try ADW EX or Launch Pro. You can download different launch bars and add your icons as you wish. So TouchWuz isn't the only launcher that can handle 4 or more icons.

It looks like Touchwiz blatantly stole many elements of HTC Sense...

(similar expanded sense layout)
they all copy each other, now its just common knowwledge. people should be willing to share or copy what works. It just gets absorbed into common practice which is for the best for everyone
Have to admit that is pretty impressive I stand corrected.

Watched a couple of videos. I don't like it. At all. I like the phone though.
This should probably be moved to Q&A, nothing developmental about it.
LOL of course things are stolen from Sense. It's getting hard to find original ideas anymore but who DOESN'T steal ideas from other companies? And I told you guys TouchWiz 4.0 isn't bad; but we can all agree that the current TouchWiz is just garbage.
Want this. whats the legality?

Seems like quite a few people are at least intrested in it.
So how long do you guys think it would take to port it to give it a test run?

I think it was ported to the current generation Galaxy S phones and was still buggy. I would imagine it would be even more buggy on our phones..
Would definitely like to take it for a spin tho..
I can imagine there is one or two developers that would like to port this. May I suggest Virus or Sac23 (and teamwin). They are the big names when I think about porting things that shouldn't be on our phones.
Good Luck
By the way TW 4.0 is pretty awesome
EDIT: Oh also if you can find a system dump for the Galexy S 2 it would proably help with the porting progress.
do i miss some thing ? the options to get - 7 and even more will be nice...
There are enough launchers in the market that will let you have as many homescreens as you like.
And with API 14 all of them should have hardware acceleration.

i know, but still its really Disappoint
BTW: hi Friend, long time no see (its you?)
Why is it so disappointing? Android launcher has never had more than 5 screens.
For me personally, i have a hard enough time filling 5 screens with functionality. 7 would be insane haha.
And how can you really need 7? i myself use 2 HS
Sent from my X10i using xda premium
I only use 4 homescreens myself too. Still, once the ICS source is released, I'm sure many launcher replacements based on the ICS launcher will pop up with added features. It happened with Launcher Pro and ADW launcher, after all.
I use 7 screens as well.
If the 3rd party launchers do not work to my liking with ICS, I will learn to adjust.

2 is plenty for me, I like clean an minimal. 2 weather Widgets on one screen and Google search and music widget on the other then my regularly used apps go into folders in adw dock. I hope we can reduce the amount of screens if anything to continue this set up on my nexus when it arrives.
Sent from my X10i using xda premium
I use 4 homescreens but I'll probably only need 3 with ICS since I'll be using a few folders which I didn't do with gingerbread. I realized that when I was shortly on a miui rom and the folders were really helpful to categorize apps and the miui folders worked and looked like they supposed to, just like in ICS now.
I only use 3 but I can use 5 but the widgets to fill them up aren't as useful as if I just had 3

You won't even need a Google search widget anymore
I use between 3 and 5 homescreens, depending on the ROM (power buttons included/not included in notification area for example) and my current theme. So 5 screens on ICS launcher will be perfect for me, although I'll probably get tired of the launcher and switch to a more customizable eventually
I only use 3 homescreen, enough for me.
Why do you want 7 when you (probably) wont use the 2 on each side much?
5 screens is more than enough, I have been fine with just 3 screens the last couple of years, going to 4th or 5th screen it too far away in my opinion, just easier to use the app drawer at that point.

Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
I use 3 homescreens, and even with those 3 I don't even use 1/2 of the apps on a regular basis. With the new improved folder UI, I see myself being just fine with 2 or 3 homescreens.
I must admit I actually use 4 1/2 screens on my HD2. 2 of those screens are used by full screen widgets for twitter and facebook, my Homescreen is packed with various calendar, notes widgets and shortcuts adn the other 2 are just filled with junk.
With the new widgets that ICS brings I can condense all my calendar widgets into a single smaller widget and the new folder function will tidy ALOT of my various shortcuts into accessible groups.
5 screens is more than enough unless you have several full screen widgets you wish to use and even then with the pixel density and resizable widget function of ICS im sure you will cope
Just remember that the more widgets you have running on the Homescreen the more it will slow up the scrolling and overall speed, Why do you think apple never introduced widgets into IOS and look how smoothly that flows.
Mark.
by the time you get to the 7th screen it would have been faster to just open the app drawer.
So Ive tried all kinds of launchers out there. And after a few weeks or so I keep finding myself going back to touchwiz. I'm always reading how people hate touchwiz but Im starting to thing that its the best launcher.
I was using GOLauncher for the longest but it just doesn't feel as nice as touchwiz.
What launchers are you using that you think is better than touchwiz?
I'm using ADW Launcher. Right now, I have 4 icons of my choice on the bottom, to go to my App Drawer, you have to swipe up, and swiping down anywhere brings the notification down, so I don't have to reach all the way to the top.
I think the real thing is TouchWiz vs MotoBlur vs HTC Sense. I don't really mind TouchWiz, but I really do lyk being able to swipe up for the app drawer. BTW, I really prefer HTC Sense. It's so awesome.
Also, TouchWiz uses a lot of resources. That's also a reason why the Vibrant isn't getting ICS with TouchWiz. TouchWiz has too much going on with it, which slows the phone down.
You probably won't notice the slow down, unless you change your ROM and use an AOSP ROM. (Vanilla Android)
I don't think the epic 4g touch will ever slow down. Touch Wizz home screen is hardware accerrated which means scroling side to side will be made smoother than a non HW accellerates launcher (tecknically). How ever i have used GOlauncher PRO which isnt HW accellarated and its practically just as smooth even though on any phone of lesser hardware it would be noticably laggier. This phone just powers through with ease how ever. Eventually i went back to touch wizz because its simple and works flawlessly and isnt bad looking (unlike how i feel about how htc sense looks). OP i went down the same exact test road you did and honestly Touch Wiz is my personal choice. Its really up to you and what style you like. This phone will breeze through any aftermarket launcher wether its HW accellerated or not. I would suggest dooling around and testing several out. There lots of different tweaks that ADB launcher and GO launcher offer that Touch Wizz doesnt. But i love how simple and easy it is and looks.
Oh FYI HTC Sense and MotoBlur arnt available for a samsung phone. Honestly i prefer Touch Wizz over sense any day after using sense for over 2 years. I know you were asking for what launchers people think are the best. I like stock the most but have done TONS of research of after market launchers and it seems the the one you and i have both already tested GO Launcher Pro is by far the most widely used and the overall favorite for after market ones.

The customizable dock and gestures are a large reason I like the look and feel of GO Launcher EX over TouchWiz. I even played some with ADW, but still like GO Launcher slightly better. It may be because I'm an iPhone convert [FREE AT LAST!] and felt I could customize GO Launcher a little more to match things I'm used to like sideways scrolling in the app drawer, etc.
Haven't compared speed too carefully, but it seems as fast. I recently rooted, put down the Blazer ROM, and overclocked, so either way it's blazing.

The newest iteration of ADW EX is the best launcher experience I've ever used: To me, even better than Go Launcher, what with the new ICS-like interface.
That's one of the apps that I'm so glad I paid for, as the dev is totally on his game as far as updates and cutting-edge releases go.
There's a reason that Teamdouche included ADW as part of CyanogenMod for all that time:
It works REALLY well, and has enough customization out-of-the-box that even those guys basically said "Yeah, this'll work fine for us."
That speaks volumes, to me.
ADW EX ftw, for now, and for the foreseeable future, as well.

Sorry about that. Ment to also put that it does have a 5app dock also. Give it a try, this is what stock outa the box should be. Samsung needs to fire there whole R&D department and hire some of the dev's here on XDA.

One last thing. Have you tried to hold your finger on the bottom page indicator dots and slide your finger? It will move through your pages super fast but not so fast that you cant see your apps. I feel this much faster than any scrolling app drawer. Just my two cents. It works the same on the home screen also.

I was playing around with my nexus today and I noticed that the stock launcher lags on certain lwp, even with forcing hardware acceleration. I know this has been mentioned a few times, however I was thinking : is it possible that when Google was making ICS they coded the stock launcher to behave properly only Phase Beam only. The say this cause even the Nexus S's lwp even causes lag and that's probably one of the lightest lwp I've seen. Just my opinion, I'd like to see how others weight in.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
They probably just didn't bother to optimize the older lwps
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I was also referring to the new lwps too, such as microbes but it's nice to know I'm not alone in my thoughts
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Really? I was running microbes fine.. but that's an older one too
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Is it? LOL
Well I only refereced that one cause I couldn't remember the other ones lol.
I notice lag Bubbles, Halo Spiral, Microbes and Nexus; though only light lag.
The only one that likes to work seems to be Phase Beam.
Too bad cause the others one look really nice too.
Those are all old Leo's...the only new one is pulse...three rest probably haven't been optimized
i've been trying to find info on the lag with lwp's - although I haven't found any answers, I'm glad to know others see the problem.
Something I have noticed that I thought might have an impact on performance:
all the lwp's that have lag are ones that "move" when you switch homescreens. the bubbles fly around, the nexus slides side to side, the microbes move, etc.
phase beam doesn't move when you slide screens. and performance is perfect. that leads me to believe that the lag has something to do with ics moving the lwp while switching home screens.
just a thought...
which launchers are you guys using?
i use go launcher but just wondering what other people are using.

I LOVE to tweak around, but mostly end up having the worst result a tech Dev would have to decrypt in order to set it back to default
Some have better luck in making epic launchers

I am one of the two people who created Windows Phone Android (getting decommissioned and maybe opensource soon). I have Metro Launcher running on my tablet. Yes I am pretty anal about exact look and feel and this one looks/feel like my Build Windows 8 tablet. I am not sure if I want to release it for public use though. Same with widgets. I have yet to find any widget packs that in the screen caps look nicer or do much of anything useful we cant already do. A few extra widgets I do use and like are the dictionary.com "word of the day", InTune, Dolphin HD bookmarks but those come with the specific apps.
