[Q] Htc Wildfire S Wi-Fi and USB Problem After root - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
I'm having some trouble with my Htc Wildfire S. It's really long story. I decided to root my phone due to its low internal storage but i didn't succeed. Then i realized that my Android version is 2.3.3 and i decided to update it, i saw an update on my phone. After i updated, it no longer connected neither wifi nor usb.
But i know it's my fault. I didn't manage to update hboot(it's still 0.90), and when i tried to update it manually, by my SD Card, radio version was updated and htboot was always bypassed. i tried a lot but the program i downloaded from htcdev said my version is up-to-date(Error 190). When it said that, i ignored and went on my job. But oddly, when i change language option, my device then connects USB, yet i can't still connect wifi, which i can't even turn on and always says error. I tried to fix so hard that i didn't even study my exam i have this morning
Seeing that i am a newbie, please help be simply to get rid of this annoying problem.

This is htc wildfire a3333 thread.
Post it in Wildfire S thread.

Broken WiFi - Magic 32A Vodafone Spain

Hi
First my apologies if the post goes on the wrong place or if I have missed reading any similar issues, but I tried to read most I can.
I have a vodafone Spain Magic (I believe it's 32A but can't remember right now and don't have it here to check) which I flashed in the summer with cyanogen's great fw.
I started having problems with the microphone. Nobody could hear me unless I shouted. I thought it was related to the fw since I hadn't dropped the device a single time so I tried to restore back to vodafone firmware. But I COULD NOT find it! Does it even exist?
I finally upgraded to cyanogen 3.999 which I think used a clean htc/t-mobile image and then adds cyanogen's patches on top of it. All nice except for the microphone again.
I tried an HTC donut developers image from their developer's site and it ended up fixing the microphone issue but now WiFi is not working!!!! I try to enable it and it says: "Error: couldn't enable wifi". So here I am, using only 3G
I tried many different rooting modes to downgrade to cupcake but no luck. When I enter the failsafe mode fastboot, none windows, mac or linux laptop can recognize the device using google's tools. adb just says "no connected device" no matter how many times I restart the unit, the adb, the laptop... no luck.
Is this a dead end??? anything I can do??
Thanks for your help!

WIFI wont work on Desire....says turning on then....error.

rooted mine my bros and bros girlfriends desires...
all went fine, no problems.
then my bros girlfriends started doing this thing and would'nt connect to wifi...it says turning on then error.
i thought ok, its an old rom version updated to the latest along with the latest radio 5.20 (or whatever it is ) and still the same....
ok...must be the rom...tried opendesire, which is working perfect on my phone and its still not working....
so to shortlist the problem is when i try connect to wifi it says turning on...then error...and wont even turn on...
definately not the rom.
definitely not the radio.
anyone got any ideas?
i tried to flash back to stock RUU but it would not let me "update" it with an HTC ruu a europe RUU and even a TMO UK ruu....
just kept saying cant update....
so anyone got any suggestions?
thanks!!
The same problem with me. I flash several ROMs, but no change. I think it's hardware fault.
Full wipe before flashing new roms? Have you tried a FroYo sense rom?
Sent from my HTC Desire
Now i use office 2.2 ROM, the same problem.
ye wiped and everything.
i cant even flash a RUU package which is gay!!
ill try a few other things and see if i can get it to work....and then maybe just send it back for repair or something.
I seem to have the same issue did anyone have any luck?
Just to give more background to me issue:
I've come up against a weird bug\issue\failure.
I've been running Leedriod ROM for a while with very very few issues. I upgraded to 2.0c over the weekend & everything was working fine.
This morning however neither my wifi or bluetooth is work.
Wifi tries to start but I simply get "Error" in Setting-->Wirless & Network-->Wi-Fi
My bluetooth has also stop working.
I'm not sure if this is related to the Leedroid ROM or potentially a hardware failure...
I have gone back to 1.9 (last know good backup) & I've done a complete fresh wipe & install of 2.0c. None of which I have had any luck with. I've also trawled the web and forums but nothing similar is popping up....
Any help or advice much appreciated...

Didn't my advice in another thread work?
It sounds like you guys have what's called a usb-bricked phone.

Sorry, mate...somewhere in my brain I thought I have replied to you. I tried the USB Brick Fix you suggested but no luck....
I'm beginning to think it's a hardware fail....
Normally means you didn't update with the gold card in the phone - you need this for ALL updates on previously branded phones...
What exactly is a USB brick? Does it brick the phone or just stop the USB from being able to update the phone?

Hey, I have much the same issue, I've tried a whole lot of ROMs and none of them seem to make the wifi work.
As soon as I revert back to the original installation it's working as expected, but whenever the phone is flashed (with the updated radio too), wifi stops.
As far as I can tell, Bluetooth, GPS and 3G are fine, but wifi tries to connect states that it's "Acquiring IP Address" and then disconnects and starts the cycle again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Do you use the gold card when updating?

Hey, no worries!
Your symptoms definitely suggest your phone is "usb-bricked". What method did you try?
This is the best (and easiest): http://android.modaco.com/content/h...com/309939/usb-brick-rickrolled-b0rked-fixed/
I followed it myself with success some time ago.
If your phone is no longer rooted, you will need to root it. Else start with step 2.

I've never used my gold card when updating my branded Vodafone Desire.
I only used the gold card for initially rooting my Desire!

Sometimes when a update/flash goes wrong the Desire going in to a low level debugging mode, which we refer to as a "usb-bricked Desire".
You will observe the following symptoms:
* FM Radio Malfunction.
* Bluetooth Malfunction.
* Charging doesn't start immediately.
* Radio Malfunction.
* SD Card Malfunction.
* Unable to connect your phone using USB when booted into Android.
* Unable to connect your phone using USB in Custom/Pushed Recovery.
...other than this, the phone will work as expected.
So the WiFi problem is something different. I was directing my reply directly at IEArmand because we were chatting on a different thread.

Thanks for the info, was just curious as my Desire, although now fully updated, didn't seem to like the latest RRU update file and couldn't be connected via USB. It's weird as disk mode and sync still work completely fine and it updated fine via OTA.

Ok this is weird.....
Woke up this morning and found my Wifi and Bluetooth functions have returned!! I did not try anything last night so I'm at a loss to know what has fixed it.Functions did not return right after USB Brick fix but who knows...
Not much help to folk with this issue I'm afraid..

Hey, I rooted my phone using the Unrevoked method, I didn't think I needed a Gold Card to complete this.
Maybe I read this incorrectly. Can I just repeat the process with the GC?
And...does the GC help with Rooting or Flashing?
Thanks.
That's rooting, you don't need a gold card for that. If you want to flash a generic ROM onto your branded Desire you'll need a gold card. If you want to flash a custom ROM, you just need to use a custom recovery (which you'll have thanks to unrEVOked)
As for JustinTrouble not needing one, I'm guessing it's just Orange users having issues then as most people need the gold card to stop the WiFi issue rearing its head

[Q] Unique WIFI problem

Hi all, I've done a search but can not find a similar problem.
I have Eclair 2.1 running on my Desire. It's rooted
The problem is I can not connect to my router (or any other router for that matter).
The phone does however recognise available wireless networks. Allows me to select my home network and enter the WEP but just doesn't connect. It also has a MAC address allocated on the phone.
One thing I am unsure of is when I try to enter the WEP key, just above the input box there is the drop-down option to select Key Index of which the options are 1, 2, 3 or 4. What does this mean?
I've also got the option to update the OS to Froyo 2.2. It's an OTA update and unfortunately my only option is to do t via 3G as I can't do WIFI (as stated above). Almost 90mb!!!
Will there be any issues with installing this update... considering this phone has been unlocked, Rooted and has ClockworkRecoveryMod?
Don't want to waste 90MB to find it doesn't work.
Just a suggestion. try disabling your router security and see if it connects then. If it does try using Mac address filtering instead so the desire will think it's just going onto an unsecure network.
Why would you want to take the official OTA upgrade to froyo at this time when there are a bajillion custom froyo, desire hd and gingerbread roms out there?
If you like htc sense and froyo, then i suggest you try leedroid. Its pimped up stock froyo. And you can download it onto your computer first. Plus its guaranteed to work.
If I'm not wrong, doing the OTA update will overwrite your hboot and recovery as well, thus unrooting your phone. And the newest hboots may be shackled down with more security that existing methods cannot unlock- your phone may become unrootable.

Unfortunately... very unfortunately indeed... I went through with the OTA update via ClockworkRecovery. I used the 'Apply SD Card/Update.zip' option before I read your reply.
I've bricked my phone!! It won't go bast the initial HTC screen.... just keeps rebooting. Yes... I'm kicking myself for it now.
I've lost recovery mode now. I can get into the initial bootloader screen but when you select the option for 'Recovery', I ust get a pic of a phone with a hazard sign [!]. Very bad. It doesn't repspond to anything and the only way to turn it off is to pull the battery.
Any suuggestions on how to fix or have I got a dud phone now?
managed to sort it out eventually. Phew!!
Still got the wifi issue though
I've changed the Router (o2 wirless box) settings from WEP to WPA/PSK.. also selected different channels and even tried it without any security on at all (open network)... but my phone still won't connect. It scans perfectly fine and finds the network. Just won't connect.
I thought the Froyo update might hep fix it but to no avail.
i'm never going to get to the bottom of this am I?

[Q] "Your phone was unable to connect to HTC Sense."

I am aware that this might be a newbie question, but I did search for an answer and nothing really helped.
I flashed Runnymeade AIO 6.0.4.2 about a week and a half ago. My first flash, without much trouble. S-OFF trough revolutionary, then their root exploit, installed 4ext, and installed the ROM. I then registered for HTC Sense, and it worked. Location worked, the phone rang on command.
The update came out (6.0.4.3). I wiped fully and flashed, and then HTC Sense stopped working. First it kept asking for a password on the phone, and then just went silent. The web service stopped working also. First informing me that it can't locate, and then: "Your device is performing its initial sync with the service. This can sometimes take several hours, depending on how many contacts you have."
I then flashed 6.1 beta (also full wipe). Great ROM, INT2SD works as advertised, but HTC Sense is still not working. The web service says same as above, and the phone says: "Your phone was unable to connect to HTC Sense."
Any ideas, or is this a hopeless cause?
The initial problem seems to have sorted itself out.
But now the online HTC Sense site says:
"We cannot get your location at this time, your phone may be switched off or out of coverage."
or
"Unable to connect to your phone to make it ring."

[Q] Official Lolipop problems, need to downgrade

Hello guys,
A few days ago I was able to update my unrooted HTC One M8 to Lolipop. This was an official update, received as a notification on the phone. Again, the phone is NOT rooted, the Lolipop version should be the official one.
However:
- 1st thing after the update, some applications lost access to the internet. games and applications which used to work before stopped working saying something along the line sof 'you need an internet connection to continue'. This while the phone was connected to the Wifi, and playing online radio.
- online searches gave some solutions for this problem: forget the network and reconnect, reset the router, change the wifi channel, even factory reset. tried all, with only one result. now even more apps don't have internet access (Facebook, HTC Internet, Chrome browser are among them).
So, basically, the Lolipop update changed my phone to a really, really expensive not-so-smart phone. I need to revert back to kitkat, and i need your help. Please let me know if i can revert to kitkat without rooting my phone? i don't want a custom ROM, I was pretty happy with the original htc ROM.
if somebody else already asked this question, I appologise. I searched for a similar problem but didn't find anything, just a lot of problems and fixes for rooted phones.
