I am trying to install this but here it says I need to have recovery on my Xperia Play. I have done this and I can't get it to boot in recovery. I have almost tried 2 days but I didn't get it to work. I think the problem is because of the .tft file but I am not so well known around phones, especially the Xplay.
I don't know what to do anymore.
I'm guessing you have a locked bootloader? If so get x-Parts from here But download one that isn't up to date (the newer ones seem to not work. I think v4 or v5 work?) That should add the recovery to your phone.

Hello! I'm having a problem with my xperia arc S, I tried to install a ROM (ULTIMATE HD 3.1) but I didn't have the wifi modules, so my phone got stuck on boot, so I figured that I got a bootloop, and went to flash the kernel (562), root again again and flash the new kernel (587) to try and install the ROM again, but the phone didn't root, but I flashed the .587 kernel and can't flash it back to .562. I can't figure what's the problem the flashtool says it's flashed but in setting the "compilation number" just says that it has the new kernel.
So my problem is how can I flash back to .562 and root the phone? I already tried this a few times (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2118343), but it dosen't work. what else can I do? Try with another kernel?
I also tried this, but it didn't work http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219711. I don't know if it helps but i have the bootloader locked.
Sorry if repost, google but didn't find anything related. thanks anyway.

If you cannot repair with Update Service, try PC Companion. It should offer the repair function.

Had a similar problem, caused by wrong kernel (at least i think so). Anyho, there was no "repair" option for me either.
What you should do is:
- Flash back to stock GB firmware (0.62)
- Root (using eRoot, it's a one click procedure.)
- Install CWM using RecoveryX is the simplest way i'd say
- Flash the kernel which Jared proposed (can't remember which one sorry)
- boot into CWM, and follow the instructions to install UltimadeHD rom. I'd suggest Tesla's instructions, they are fail-proof. Remember to click on "unlocked bootloader" if your bootloader is locked.

I think I did it thanks, i used a thread here (LINK), i used the generic stock rom and it solved it, thanks for your help. And thanks to everybody else =)
Hey guys, as the post title says, I'm trying to install the xperia play z rom, and I'm hitting a lot of road blocks. First one is, I don't even know if my phone's bootloader is unlocked! I'm pretty sure it is, because I thought all r800a's came with an unlocked bootloader, and I also used the flashtool, unlock bootloader tool, and it said it was already unlocked.
So, naturally what I do, is I flash the firmware in the guide (located here - http://www.android-hilfe.de/root-cu...a-play/417392-rom-xperia-play-z-v1-1-0-a.html), and after that I want to root it so I can install a recovery. But when I try to root it, it always fails on part 1. So I tried to install cyanogenmod recovery without it. But after the apk is installed, i'm not able to install the actual recovery because it is not rooted.
My main problem with the guide is that it says to just boot into clockworkmod recovery, but I don't know how to. I turn on the phone and press the up button, but without installing the CWM/X-parts recovery, there's no way I can expect it to come up.
Any help please? I'm totally lost here. I know how to get roms that are based on gingerbread, but for some reason, Ics/Jellybean roms don't work at all, and I don't know if it is whether because my phones bootloader isn't unlocked (even though it says it is), or it's something else, like me missing a tutorial specifically for ics/jellybean roms.
Thanks in advance.

Well you have to flash an ICS kernel first and it will already have a cwm recovery in it. Then you can just boot to recovery and flash the rom

OHHHHHHHHH. Thank you so much. But how am I supposed to flash the boot.img for the modified doomkernel v3, which it says it includes in the guide? Am I supposed to extract it from the rom zip or something? Thanks again.

yes, boot.img is inside the zip. Unpack just that file and flash it with flashtool (in fastboot mode). But you must have unlocked bootloader to be able to flash any custom kernel

Sorry, another question. What happens is that when I try to flash an ics kernel, it goes into an infinite bootloop, but when I flash a gingerbread kernel, it works fine. Is this a sign of a locked bootloader? Cause I thought you wouldn't be able to install any kernels if it was locked.

If you flash ics kernel, you won't be able to boot your old gb rom. Ics kernel only boot into ics rom.
When you flash ics kernel, go to recovery and install ics rom.

Thank you so much. Worked like a charm.
For future readers -
a. The r800a indeed does come with bootloader unlocked
b. It is normal for the phone to bootloop, Just go into recovery like normal and install the rom .zip. (It's usually tapping back while starting the phone, but if that doesn't work, try up volume or down volume)

I have cwm installed too. It's great to have unless you want to flash roms..You CAN'T FLASH CUSTOM ROMS with this cmw, only mods. Since I am satisfied with the stock rom that I debloated I use it only to create backups and I flashed the hide qslide mod. :good:
When the led buttons light up I push the quick note or home button to get to cmw. But you have to be fast

Hello,
My name is Tim and I'm new on this forum. I've read a lot of topics during the past year but I've never joined XDA, till now.
I do have a question about my sony xperia s. I did want a custom rom for it. After reading many of the topics about how to install it I finally had the courage to do it. Because of several things I couldn't find time and now, before going to bed I thougt I'de give it a try.
It went wrong and now my phone stopped working, kind of. I forgot to copy the file of the custom rom to Sdcard of my phone, so i cant reach it now. The flashtool did it's job and removed the stock rom. Now i'm in the middle of two roms but cant go further.
Rom manager is installed but I don't know what to do know. Please don't tell me what I shouldn't have done but tell me what to do.

Something weird happened.I clicked on the BLU button on flashtool and it says my device is still unlocked. After unlocking using flash tool I am now able to flash CWM and TWRP. But both recoveries still would not let me install the roms I mentioned earlier. It still thinks that I'm on another device. Currently downloading CM11 from the CM website. Waiting for my download to finish. But I have a feeling it still wouldn't work. btw, thanks for going through step by step with me. I'm still new to xperia devices. Owned an s plus last time and the whole rom flashing process wasn't really hard like this one.lol
EDIT: UPDATE!!! I have finally found the reason for my problem. I flashed an incorrect version of the boot.img.Because I dump all the stuff related to flashing rom and I dont really remember the location in which I downloaded the boot.img. So what I did was I extracted the whole content of the rom that I downloaded proceed to flash the boot.img using flashtool. from there on, everything works perfectly! thanks for your help. Without ur suggestion, I wouldn't have tought of manually getting the boot.img!
