[Q] Can't flash back to ,62 - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello! I'm having a problem with my xperia arc S, I tried to install a ROM (ULTIMATE HD 3.1) but I didn't have the wifi modules, so my phone got stuck on boot, so I figured that I got a bootloop, and went to flash the kernel (562), root again again and flash the new kernel (587) to try and install the ROM again, but the phone didn't root, but I flashed the .587 kernel and can't flash it back to .562. I can't figure what's the problem the flashtool says it's flashed but in setting the "compilation number" just says that it has the new kernel.
So my problem is how can I flash back to .562 and root the phone? I already tried this a few times (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2118343), but it dosen't work. what else can I do? Try with another kernel?
I also tried this, but it didn't work http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219711. I don't know if it helps but i have the bootloader locked.
Sorry if repost, google but didn't find anything related. thanks anyway.

Restore your phone using Sony Update Service, since you have locked bootloader.

If you cannot repair with Update Service, try PC Companion. It should offer the repair function.

Had a similar problem, caused by wrong kernel (at least i think so). Anyho, there was no "repair" option for me either.
What you should do is:
- Flash back to stock GB firmware (0.62)
- Root (using eRoot, it's a one click procedure.)
- Install CWM using RecoveryX is the simplest way i'd say
- Flash the kernel which Jared proposed (can't remember which one sorry)
- boot into CWM, and follow the instructions to install UltimadeHD rom. I'd suggest Tesla's instructions, they are fail-proof. Remember to click on "unlocked bootloader" if your bootloader is locked.

[Q] How does one revert one's Xperia S back to stock ICS from Cyanogenmod 10?

I'm asking because I specifically flashed another boot.img for Cyanogenmod 10.
Now, what are the exact steps I need to take to go back to stock ICS?
Do I need to flash a stock boot.img first, with fastboot or something, and then flash a stock ICS zip from ClockWorkMod?
I'm not really experienced with any of this, I've flashed only about 3 times but none of which required me to install a different boot.img (isn't that the kernel file?).
Any help would be amazing!

I always follow 2 steps in CWM
1.Flash advanced stock kernel and reboot.
2.Flash stock zip Rom.

Can this advanced stock kernel be flashed from within CWM as well as the ROM? I used something I believe was called fastboot for it.
And the kernel is indeed the boot.img then?

If you want to go back to stock, dont flash anything..
Now reverting back to stock is much easier as sony has released an official flashtool, just download the tool and latest firmware and flash it using the tool..
Once again dont flash any kernel or any rom if you want to completely go back to
stock.

Yep sure There are 2 versions of advanced stock kernel. One is flashed via fastboot and another one is flashed via CWM.
Then, on CM, Pac, Para which Rom are not based on stock one, boot.img is exactly the kernel

I tried this, but I couldn't get the official flash tool from Sony to work.
I apparently had to have a company when making an account to log in. Very odd.
I assumed this other flashtool made by probably xda developers did the same thing, but that one always gives me an error that I need to install the drivers first. Yet I've used this program before and back then I already went through all the hassle to install the correct drivers.
And now I don't know which drivers to install anymore.

You need to follow the instructions in sony's developer website for installing the flash tool..
Did you install the drivers using the drivers folder in flashtool??
And does your phone get recognized by the flashtool, I mean does it show your android version etc etc..??

Thanks A LOT!
Sony's beta flashtool, Emma, works like a CHARM!
I initially forgot to copy the customisation file from the zip to the installation folder. Thanks for reminding me to check the instructions
The unofficial flashtool couldn't recognise my phone, but Sony's one could.
Thanks so much for answering my questions, I'm starting to learn how it all works! If I could, I'd give you 10 thanks. But I think that's against the rules c:

[Q] Getting out of a bootloop without CWM

My phone is a Xperia Arc (also known as lt15i) and it is rooted and has an unlocked bootloader.
It runs on Android 2.3.4.
I wanted to install CWM, and followed a guide for that.
Since I can't link the guide, I can just say that it's name was "How to root sony ericsson xperia arc lt15i and install custom rom" and tht is was on listenmefirst.
From that guide, all i did was option 2 for installing CWM.
At the end of the guide, it says "reboot your phone", and I did, and now it's stuck in a boot loop.
I've tried several different keycombinations without anything happening (holding down volume / holding left and right buttons / holding home+volume up). It does however blink a blue light when I hold left and right button, but it seems to have no effect.
So my question is: is there any way to get out of this bootloop?
if you have an unlocked bootloader you can simply flash a kernel that has CWM though fastboot or flashtool
Since your on 2.3.4, this may sound obvious, use a gingerbread kernel.
I used this for pretty much all GB roms i used

Then you need a kernel that supports ICS.
there's no possible way for me to brick your phone if you already have an unlocked bootloader. You can wipe everything off and start over. Everything can be solved.

If you just wanted to get out of the bootloop (like your title lol) then you need to flash GB kernel.
If you want to go to ICS you need to put an ICS ROM onto your SD card, flash kernel, then install rom

[Q] Need help installing Jellybean on my Arc S

Dear all,
Firstly, I'm new to this forum - hi. I have done an extensive search and found some guides but even those confuse me so I'd appreciated some constructive comments without any links to guides I may also find difficult.
I'm trying to install Jellybean to my device using a guide (that I currently can't link to because I haven't had 10 posts).
I have downloaded the two zip files it says I need (ROM and Google Apps) and have copied them to my SD card. However I don't know how to get into recovery mode to then load these. I downloaded RecoverX and tried to install it but it says my phone is either not connecting or is missing some drivers. I have busybox installed and my phone is connected with USB debugging enabled.
Can anyone advise me further?
Thank you.
What have you got?? Unlocked or Locked Bootloader ???
You forgot the first step.
Unlocking your bootloader
You have to unlock bootloader to flash custom jelly bean kernel. Then you can load cwm

Restore backup, its only thing u can do right now. If u want to flash custom JB rom, u must unlock bootloader as said before because different versions of Android cant run on the same kernel.
To install custom rom, do this steps:
1) unlock bootloader (if possible, otherwise, u r stuck with ICS roms.)
http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/instructions
2) After that, its simple - flash selected kernel via flashtool and then flash desired ROM!
And piece of advice, u have search on this forum, its quite usefull

Well first you need a unlocked bootloader.
Then, you have to flash a ICS kernel for an ICS ROM (using fast boot)
LuPuS is a good kernel and is pretty stable too.
After that just install the ROM through CWM.

Something weird happened.I clicked on the BLU button on flashtool and it says my device is still unlocked. After unlocking using flash tool I am now able to flash CWM and TWRP. But both recoveries still would not let me install the roms I mentioned earlier. It still thinks that I'm on another device. Currently downloading CM11 from the CM website. Waiting for my download to finish. But I have a feeling it still wouldn't work. btw, thanks for going through step by step with me. I'm still new to xperia devices. Owned an s plus last time and the whole rom flashing process wasn't really hard like this one.lol
EDIT: UPDATE!!! I have finally found the reason for my problem. I flashed an incorrect version of the boot.img.Because I dump all the stuff related to flashing rom and I dont really remember the location in which I downloaded the boot.img. So what I did was I extracted the whole content of the rom that I downloaded proceed to flash the boot.img using flashtool. from there on, everything works perfectly! thanks for your help. Without ur suggestion, I wouldn't have tought of manually getting the boot.img!
