HTC One verdict - tooooo small - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

So I went by the Sprint store to look at the One. Way too small, wasn't even interested after picking it up.

Its a 4.7" screen almost an inch smaller than the Note II. Even the S IV with a 5" screen seems really small cuz the screen is tall and narrow so the device isn't much bigger than the S III, just a tiny bit taller. After having the Note II and actually being able to type comfortably on it I don't think I could use a smaller device now. I have a hard time using my wife's phone cuz I feel like I'm gonna drop it trying to type. If you think the One is too small don't even look at iPhone's I have to peck with 1 finger while holding it with my other hand when I use my boss' 4s it's just way too small for my thumbs to bend properly to type on it honestly feels like it was designed for a child's hands.

My hands make the note II look small. People don't even realize its a note til I hand it to em and they realize its 3x the size of their iphone 4s and 2x the size of the 5. You can actually turn 3 4s sideways and lay them on the note2 and still see the top and bottom of the phone. The 3 screens together sideways are just about the same size as the note is in portrait.

It wasn't that bad and you get use to the size again.. I had the HTC One and actually prefer it over the Note 2..Unfortunately it didn't hold 4G well enough for me to consider keeping it.
I honestly think it's the other way around. It's not that the One is too small but the note is just too big.. Just my thoughts, they don't mean s***.

Some days I get aggravated by the size but there is no way I could go back, especially since I use the gn2 as my primary device at home.

I thought the same thing.. But just like how the note doesn't seem big after a while the One doesn't feel very small after a few days.. I like having the SPen back too and the large screen was nice when I watched a movie on it again last night in bed. But the One sure was a joy to use for work(I'm a driver) I'm constantly answering calls and stuff on the road. But that damn 4G dropping to 3G killed it for me.. Granted it has to do more with the LTE coverage than the phone but my Note 2 does not have issues holding 4G in the same areas the one would drop it...
Either way all I'm saying is its not hard to go back to a smaller device. I thought it would be but you adapt to it..

yeah the GS3, One and GS4 all feel so ... small now

I tried to make the htc one work for me til the note 3 but yea it's to small if you have big hands. Sucks that the menu thing takes up some of the screen and that the back button is on the left not to mention you have to tap on it 5x to work. Love the build quality and speakers though.

Every phone is small now to me. Besides the note 2..I can operate my note one handed with three fingers holding the back.. And my thumb reaching every part of the screen. I rarely use my phone two handed unless I'm typing out a long email or text

Definitely can't go any smaller than the note 2 haha. I mean, The HTC One is a nice built but it feels soo weird holding anything smaller

If you were my size (6'7" with hands that make a softball look like a baseball) you wouldn't want a child sized phone after having something comfortable to hold. Even before the note 2 my phone's were awkward and I always felt like I would drop them if they weren't in a huge case like an Otterbox or similar.

I've had the HTC One X (Evo 4g LTE) since August. It was an amazing phone and was even thinking about upgrading to the one. Until I learned about the Note 2. I will never go back to HTC after using a Samsung number one. Number Two, the screen if the one is the same as the One x. No upgrade. HTC is really starting to feel like Apple without the quality.

My friend used an S4 and switched right back to Note II since he felt it was a tad too small for his liking after a week. And S4 is larger than the One.
And I personally find it much hard to use the tiny phones rather than the minor annoyances that you get from time to time using N2 one handed.

I swapped my htc one out for a SG4. I don't even carry my note 2 with me when I'm at work. SG4 seems to be the right size for me and I don't have girly hands. hehe I have one more upgrade so will probably still get the note 3.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus: Too Big For the Human Hand?

Thoughts?
"it's dangerously close to a tablet"
Hardly. It's not even that much bigger than my GFs MT4G and about the same size as my GalaxyS2.
I dunno. I have small hands anyway. The Nexus One seemed a good fit. The jump to get G2x had me a little off... but I got used to it.
Now I juggle the phone on my fingers and palm. Kinda weird but works well. The Nexus pushes my thumb reach even using it this way. Anything bigger and I'll be double fisting it.
Since I have smaller hands, I conformed earlier. I think people with larger hands are having to go through that now with the nexus.
I wouldn't say its too big, but will probably change up a few things.
LTE Google Galaxy Nexus! - Stock
Asus Transformer - OC/UV
Hardly. Its a big phone but still not that much larger then my old Thunderbolt. Maybe he should play with the Note for a little bit to get an idea of a phone flirting with tablet territory.
4" does seem to be the ideal one handed phone for everybody. the atrix still feels good in my hand. i do have a hard time one handed sometimes but actually my bigger problem is the next phone. will i settle for something smaller after such a nice screen. probably not. i do like what samsung did to the hd screen. it looks a looooot better than the plus screens. up until now, amoled has been oversaturated with the colors. this screen is great. and still has the nice contrast and pop because of the deep black.
Yes. I think it's a bit too big. The rezound fits my hand better.
But that's the price you pay for freedom.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
I'm 6" with pretty big hands, and i can hit the Q in portrait mode with the middle of my thumb. (right handed) So for people with smaller hands, they should still have no problem reaching any of the letters in portrait mode.
I think its the perfect size overall. The device itself is only a tad longer than a Bionic, (about a half a mm or a mm) the same width, and thinner. I really don't see what anyone is complaining about.
Due to the rounded corners it's a hell of a lot easier to use with one hand than my RAZR.

It is a damn big phone; that was my primary concern about. Having no problems using it though.
it depends on the person's size. i'm 6' 5" and have big hands. this Nexus' still feels like it's a bit too small for me. i look forward to the 5"+ phones.
For me the SGS2 felt bigger. I can reach stuff much easier on the GN

I think that the nexus is ok for people with above average sized hands, but really, if your hands are too small for the GNEX, then they are too small for most of the 4.3" devices out there right now anyways:
Here is a comparison between the GNEX and the DroidX (4.3"). There really isnt that much of a difference.

Here are the two phones in my hand how one might hold them. There is again minimal difference. Basically, this says that if you can use a 4.3" phone, which has become the defacto size for android super phones, then you can just as easily use the GNEX's huge 4.65" display.
The GNEX:
and the DX:
(Note that I am 6' 3" and the diagonal of my hand is about 9.5", so the usability will be better or worse depending on how big you are.)
Edited: I hate Box.com. And I wont every try to venture away from the comfort of Dropbox again for cloud storage.
My previous phone was a Galaxy S. I do think that was the perfect size for my hands. Although i still couldnt stand the hardware buttons on that phone and the gsm nexus doesnt feel any heavier and seems thinner. But after you get use to the gnexus screen the gs seems so little. Even my wife's iphone 4 seems tiny now.

No problems using it, but would you prefer it to be smaller? Or do you like this size better now that you're used to it?
Seems a fine size to me.
I have rather large hands (glove size 8.5) and my opinion is: the GN is on the far end of "large". This is probably the maximum size a smartphone can have and still be (relatively) easily operated with one hand. For smaller hands it already is too large.
Galaxy Nexus is just under the "to-big-for-human-hans-limit" if you ask me.
The Galaxy Note on the other hand, is to big.
i don't have an issue with the size using it, i have an issue with the size of it + a holster and just putting it into and taking it out of said holster. I liked the nexus one (OGdroid before that, and a myriad of smaller phones before that) i was coming from but was ready for something a little bigger. a little smaller would have been nice since i keep it on my belt, but i like the big screen when i'm using it.
i got the leather case from vzw, but i'll be heading out tomorrow to try to find a nylon one that hopefully will fit the phone but be a smaller total package.

[Q] Advice needed - SGS 3 to Note 2 / dress code compatibility...

Hi guys,
I'm coming back to the Android world and I can't seem to be able to decide on which device to buy, the SGS3 or the Note2...
So give me a hand here. If you owned an S3 and went to Note 2, how was the transition?
I never liked the Note 1, too bulky and square... But it seems the Note 2 is quite something from the features, performance and design point of view.
Furthermore, I want to understand how would such a device go with a business casual/suit&tie dress code.
Looking forward to your comments.
Cheers!
I came from s3, note seems very big at start. U will get used to it. But after a couple a weeks I realize that the note 2 is just too big. It's very similar to s3 but has better battery and bigger screen which seems not as sharp as the s3. I found the s3 more easy to handle with one hand. And it feels very light and small coming from a note 2 after 2 weeks.
Hard choice. Still don't know which one i will keep.

Are you a jeans person or a suit one? Not trying to get too deep into your clothing preferences, just want to understand how does the note fit your day to day activities.
I personally must abide a business casual dress code and sometimes wearing a suit 2-3 days a week is necessary. Not sure how a Note 2 would go with that...

If you wait until Thursday I can pose for a photo with my Note II, wearing a suit...
I think it looks very business-y and clean. Of course if you wrap it in a leather flip case of some sort it will look extremely professional... As long as you don't put a pink glittery case on it I doubt your colleagues will be talking trash about your Note looking out of place!
I use a suit to work, it fits nice in my pants. Only thing is when i go in and out of cars the note 2 falls out sometimes. It's very annoying. And when I'm going to quicksend a message and take it quick out my pants i almost drops it. I have relative big hands. Pretty hard choice between s3 and note 2. I must decide before Wednesday one of them are going back

Thanks for the replies guys, really appreciated!
From what you're telling me, it is quite a sleek device even for business but slightly hard to manage when getting out of a car and pulling out of the pocket.
Now, you did mention that the display looks a little less crisp on the Note 2. That would be strange in my opinion because the Note 2 display uses 3 sub-pixels per pixel and even if the pixel density is lower, it should still look as good if not even better than SGS3.
Nevertheless, does the "one hand operation mode" really make it easier to use one hand with this device? Or is it just a marketing thing?
In my opinion the Display of the Note 2 is sharper. The display of the S3 is quite good, better than awaited for a pentile.
The one hand option positions the keyboard more to the left or right side, it is better to type with this option. But I am not able to access the whole screen (for example smileys at WhatsApp). But at S3 it's also hard for me to reach the smileys with one hand.
Can't decide whether to keep the note or get and S3 additionally and then decide what to do.

Hi. I'm taking up my mba and law degree and also work at a place where we need to dress in formal wear. The note 2 fits in perfectly as long as you get titanium Gray. It's very elegant and sleek. I also suggest getting the official flip cover. Got many compliments already as people think it's a smart looking phone.
Regarding one handed usage, the one handed keyboard etc really helps in operating it using one hand.

A little strange yes
Slightly off-topic: if anyone here is from Germany and bought the Note II from the operator, did it come with Operator specific bloatware?
The Titanium Grey version seems to be more dress code-friendly...more subtle-looking than the Marble White, definitely.

[Q] GS3 or Note 2

My gf is up for a new phone and wanted to get her a GS3 since I have one and love mine. Anyone out there have both phones? Can you do a comparo? I've heard mixed reviews and the ones I read online don't come from XDA members who know their phones in and out. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks all.

Is she okay with carrying a beast around with her all the time? Because most girls already think my gs3 is too big, so I would think that .7 inches would make it worse. However, if she's cool with the size then the phone is pretty much a faster gs3

She wants the bigger phone because in Korea it's all the rage. The day she starts making me carry the phone because it's too big....
Anyhow, I don't mind the bigger size- if she doesn't like it, maybe I swap my phone for hers.

Well in that case, assuming price isn't a huge problem, the note 2 is faster, cooler features and is the current flagship for Samsung. Honestly, the only thing it's lacking is the GS3's awesome dev support but that'll change soon enough
I was thinking about getting the Note 2 myself last Friday but I ended up getting the S3 and i'm glad I did. I'm 6'6", 300lbs and the S3 is perfect for me to use with one hand which was my main concern. Plus I got the S3 for $50 at bestbuy so I'm very happy with my decision.

No offense or stereotyping intended, honestly, but at the shop where i work we get a lot of Korean tourists (and Asians in general) and the girls all seem to have these HUGE phones in their dainty hands. I see a lot of Galaxy Notes, S2's, S3's and the usual iPhones with funky bunny cases.
I'd say get the S3. I think it fits the perfect balance between size and portability. I considered the Note 2 but decided that i didn't need something that big ALL the time even though i have no issue using it as my main device if i had to. I have an S3 btw.
The LG Optimus G comes out Sunday also.

I have a GS3 and I love my device.....
However, if given the chance, I would jump all over the Note 2. Samsung got the dimensions right this time around. The original Note was a stretch to hold in one hand (and I have decent sized hands). With the Note 2, they enlarged the screen, but they decreased the size of the bezel to make the device itself smaller. I have played around with the Note 2 alot and actually think it feels rather comfortable. WAYYYY better than the original Note.
For your GF though, I honestly would stick to the GS3. Girls tend to have smaller hands and I've heard some of them complain about the size of the GS3 so I would count the Note 2 out unless she's a business/tech savvy chick.

I could see the use for more ram, but I really don't use dropbox at all so that is moot. To me the screen seems better on the EVO vs the GS3 as well as the camera. I also prefer the build quality of the EVO too, as well as the ability to mix and match more parts as seen here.

Are you guys comfortable with it? I keep seeing posts not only in this forum of it cramping peoples hands etc etc.....
I'm not finding it that hard to hold, one handed operation can be challenging once in a while especially when reaching for that top left portion of the screen but no biggy.
How many people are finding it uncomfortable to hold this device. I'd also like to suggest..

lol.
It took me a couple days to get use to.
The right case makes a big difference on how it feels in hand.
I wont be going back to smaller size device that's f,sure.
To hold it in one hand, I support it with my pinky from the bottom so I can reach the bottom of the phone to type. It mostly gives cramps to my hand but not a big deal. I had the same issue with my sgs2.
But 2 handed operation is excellent.
Actually I got used to this phone's size so fast that I started to feel the screen is still small. so I grabbed my sgs2 and played it a while. I felt amazed again to hold my note2
This is why I'm trying to avoid the candyshell hard cases or forget the otter box. I want something as slim as the device and still offer decent protection. I'm hoping the seidio surface does the job and hardly adds size. I ordered one last night.

Looks good, wonder if they have them at the sprint stores? I didnt even think of this I figured they'd have the sprint branding all over them.
I had to remove the slim case l bought. Otherwise, without a case, it's been totally fine.

I picked up my epic just to play with and immediately decided its to small "the epic that is" I love the feel of the note2 but I use the spen alot so onehanded is pretty much non existent for me but when I do I still feel comfortable with it and I do not have large hands lol. But like someone said use your pinky to help support it.

I love mine and really enjoy the bigger screen (coming from SGSII). I'm putting a FlyGrip on it which will make it easier for one-handed use AND it will prevent it from falling out of your hand(s). Check them out. I absolutely love my FlyGrip on my SGSII. Highly recommend it.

Yeah they stock in store.
Sprint gave up branding accsessors..heck their GN2 doesn't have any branding which is great.
Now they they need to fix CS and data speeds lol
A lot of women love using the Notes and I've never heard them complain about hands cramping. Just saying...
Using it for the past few days i don't think i could go back to the gs3. Just feels to small

I came over from the iPhone 4S, which I still have to use as my work phone , and using the iPhone now it feels absolutely uncomfortably small. I have zero issues with the size of the note at all.

As long as you didnt break your nails....
It took me all of a day to get used to it, and I have average-sized hands. I try to use it two-handed when I can, but with one-handed operation, it's a pretty simple task, especially with Swype.

Thoughts when you saw it in person for the first time.

Coming from a Note 2 I knew what to expect after seeing pics on the web. But as the lady went in the back to grab the phone, I got those new super smartphone hives I always get lol. Then she puts it on the table and I'm stuck in awe. I don't know if it's because I knew the power of the device, or the fact that I was crazy about the design. But this felt more significant for some reason than my jump from DROID X to Galaxy Nexus if you could believe it. What about you guys?

"It's beautiful. . ."
Lol. I wasn't as excited as y'all. I hate the chrome and T-Mobile stamp on back. Waiting to get an OEM Samsung wireless charge battery cover. And trying to figure out how I want to rub the chrome off and gloss it to a semi gloss black because I am sure the black underneath is flat. And I didn't get excited as y'all til about 3 days after I got my phone. Started to really enjoy the intensity then.

My first thought was
"It's not that big"
Reviews make this thing seem like it is a lunch tray, but I can hold it in one hand just fine.

Lol that was my first thought too.
My second thought was "Ok, I'm sold."
My firs thought was HURRRY THE HELL UP WITH MY NEW PHONE. lol. Never less than an hour per trip to a tmobile store. Love the phone though.

"How long will it be until I can get cyanogenmod on this?"
Just give me the damn phone and quit trying to make me switch to T-Mobile service
I like the s pen too much to mod it.
I thought it was gonna be too big coming from a GS4 but after playing w it for 30 mins it does not feel any bigger and I have been fully satisfied w the Note 3.

Man, that's expensive! In reference to TMo wanting over $800 for it for prepaid. I then made the mistake of attempting Negri, wasted two perfectly fine weeks, cancelled, and bought a white one on Swappa after all the black ones were gone. I love the design, it's an excellent phone, but T-Mo has some awful pricing and I wasn't paying over $100 extra to walk out of the store with it. My only disappointment is that the black one has a leather feel and the white is hard plastic. Was it really that hard to make white fake leather textured plastic? I really want to find where I can buy a black backplate just for the texture, still love the look of the white model. Also, the camera bump annoys me since 90% of my use is browsing with the phone laying flat on a table.

I thought the phone looked boring, I was more in awe at the function of it over fashion though. But it's a huge plus that they thinned the side bezels, and that it felt better to hold in the hands than the Note 2. Screen was also sharper and bigger.

Coming from the S4 "wow thats huge" and that's the first time ever my wife said to me when I took it home.
Sent from my Note the Third.
My first thought when I took the phone out of the box, "Wow, this REALLY DOES FEEL like leather!" (I have the black one btw)
Second thought after playing with some YouTube vids, "This speaker is really not bad at all, very loud and clear...I dunno what those complaining fools on XDA were smokin.."
Third, "Hey this amazing screen looks almost like an IPS LCD! Wowsers! No hint of pentile matrix and super bright, a big step up from even the Note 2's display"
Fourth, "Wow there is literally no lag or microstuttering, unlike my POS Galaxy S4." "I love this phone!"
Those were my initial impressions.
