My gf is up for a new phone and wanted to get her a GS3 since I have one and love mine. Anyone out there have both phones? Can you do a comparo? I've heard mixed reviews and the ones I read online don't come from XDA members who know their phones in and out. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks all.

Having just gottten the G3 I can say that it requires 2 hands sometimes.
I am sure the note will require 2 hands even more.

Is she okay with carrying a beast around with her all the time? Because most girls already think my gs3 is too big, so I would think that .7 inches would make it worse. However, if she's cool with the size then the phone is pretty much a faster gs3

She wants the bigger phone because in Korea it's all the rage. The day she starts making me carry the phone because it's too big....
Anyhow, I don't mind the bigger size- if she doesn't like it, maybe I swap my phone for hers.

Well in that case, assuming price isn't a huge problem, the note 2 is faster, cooler features and is the current flagship for Samsung. Honestly, the only thing it's lacking is the GS3's awesome dev support but that'll change soon enough
I was thinking about getting the Note 2 myself last Friday but I ended up getting the S3 and i'm glad I did. I'm 6'6", 300lbs and the S3 is perfect for me to use with one hand which was my main concern. Plus I got the S3 for $50 at bestbuy so I'm very happy with my decision.

I guess I will go ahead and get her a Note 2-- that way if she doesn't like it, she can have my GS3. Think it might be a win win.

No offense or stereotyping intended, honestly, but at the shop where i work we get a lot of Korean tourists (and Asians in general) and the girls all seem to have these HUGE phones in their dainty hands. I see a lot of Galaxy Notes, S2's, S3's and the usual iPhones with funky bunny cases.
I'd say get the S3. I think it fits the perfect balance between size and portability. I considered the Note 2 but decided that i didn't need something that big ALL the time even though i have no issue using it as my main device if i had to. I have an S3 btw.
The LG Optimus G comes out Sunday also.

I have a GS3 and I love my device.....
However, if given the chance, I would jump all over the Note 2. Samsung got the dimensions right this time around. The original Note was a stretch to hold in one hand (and I have decent sized hands). With the Note 2, they enlarged the screen, but they decreased the size of the bezel to make the device itself smaller. I have played around with the Note 2 alot and actually think it feels rather comfortable. WAYYYY better than the original Note.
For your GF though, I honestly would stick to the GS3. Girls tend to have smaller hands and I've heard some of them complain about the size of the GS3 so I would count the Note 2 out unless she's a business/tech savvy chick.

Hey I have a EVO LTE and so far its been a solid device. The kickstand is a nice touch as well as sense. Although I do like that the gs3 has a removable batt

2gb or ram and 48 gb of drop box space
I think the choice is obvious
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
I could see the use for more ram, but I really don't use dropbox at all so that is moot. To me the screen seems better on the EVO vs the GS3 as well as the camera. I also prefer the build quality of the EVO too, as well as the ability to mix and match more parts as seen here.

go with the note 2... if she doesnt like it and you do, switcharoo. or within 14 days return it and get the gs3 for her.
Don't most girls carry a bag anyways? My gf upgraded to the Note II and loves it. Now, hopefully, she won't pester me to get her an iPad mini like mine.

I doubt you get any much extra money by including all those accessories with the phone. I would list the phone and each case separately on ebay. It's a little more work but that's going to get you the best return. Then go find the best deal you can on an iphone. I would highly recommend buying local if you can. Have the seller meet you at the VZW store to do the deal. That way can have VZW activate right there and you know the ESN and everything is good.
If you really have your heart set on a trade then post this on an iphone board not Gnex. We don't have iphones.

Hey guys I searched on google for the s pen and came across this site that is selling the OFFICIAL Samsung S Pen & Holder Kit for JUST $5!!!! I was shocked when I saw the price considering Samsung is selling this same kit for $59.99 and Amazon has it listed for around $25. I ordered 3 to have some extras around in case I lose/misplace one. The shipping for just one was about $7, and for three it was about $8 and some change. My total order came out to be about $23.38 which I found to be a steal for three of these pens.
What's even better is if you are in the Miami, Fl area they have stores that you can actually pick up your order at the store and save on the shipping! I'll probably get the order towards the end of the week and i'll post back then with some pictures as well. If you guys are in the marker for this kit, I would definitely purchase it from here before they raise the price or sell out! Happy buying!

Unreal! I just bought this last night off ebay for 30.00...
Got my $5.00 pens today, and I must say they are great. I take a lot of notes in my college classes and these are the perfect size for me, unlike the pens that came with my 5.3 and 10.1 which have been a pain for me to use. These feel and weigh like an expensive ink pen, think Cross. They are built very well and look nice. They also work on both the 5.3 and 10.1. The pressure sensitivity works well also. still trying to get used to the button though. I Keep clicking it and taking screen Shots.

I would stay away from this.
The S pen on the Note 10.1 has a softer tip. I have this model and it has a harder tip. Has something made the tips softer to prevent scratching?
The larger S pen for the Note 10.1 is different. Also the question is whether the Note 5.3 pen holder can handle the extra 1024 pressure levels. Thr old note is only capable of 256 levels.

Revived my pens yesterday. Im testing it out as I take notes from my textbook. I'm going to lost some oics either later tonight or tomorrow for sure. The kit is so much better to write with im glad I made the purchase. Hi guys,
I'm coming back to the Android world and I can't seem to be able to decide on which device to buy, the SGS3 or the Note2...
So give me a hand here. If you owned an S3 and went to Note 2, how was the transition?
I never liked the Note 1, too bulky and square... But it seems the Note 2 is quite something from the features, performance and design point of view.
Furthermore, I want to understand how would such a device go with a business casual/suit&tie dress code.
Looking forward to your comments.
Cheers!
I came from s3, note seems very big at start. U will get used to it. But after a couple a weeks I realize that the note 2 is just too big. It's very similar to s3 but has better battery and bigger screen which seems not as sharp as the s3. I found the s3 more easy to handle with one hand. And it feels very light and small coming from a note 2 after 2 weeks.
Hard choice. Still don't know which one i will keep.

Are you a jeans person or a suit one? Not trying to get too deep into your clothing preferences, just want to understand how does the note fit your day to day activities.
I personally must abide a business casual dress code and sometimes wearing a suit 2-3 days a week is necessary. Not sure how a Note 2 would go with that...

If you wait until Thursday I can pose for a photo with my Note II, wearing a suit...
I think it looks very business-y and clean. Of course if you wrap it in a leather flip case of some sort it will look extremely professional... As long as you don't put a pink glittery case on it I doubt your colleagues will be talking trash about your Note looking out of place!
I use a suit to work, it fits nice in my pants. Only thing is when i go in and out of cars the note 2 falls out sometimes. It's very annoying. And when I'm going to quicksend a message and take it quick out my pants i almost drops it. I have relative big hands. Pretty hard choice between s3 and note 2. I must decide before Wednesday one of them are going back

Thanks for the replies guys, really appreciated!
From what you're telling me, it is quite a sleek device even for business but slightly hard to manage when getting out of a car and pulling out of the pocket.
Now, you did mention that the display looks a little less crisp on the Note 2. That would be strange in my opinion because the Note 2 display uses 3 sub-pixels per pixel and even if the pixel density is lower, it should still look as good if not even better than SGS3.
Nevertheless, does the "one hand operation mode" really make it easier to use one hand with this device? Or is it just a marketing thing?
In my opinion the Display of the Note 2 is sharper. The display of the S3 is quite good, better than awaited for a pentile.
The one hand option positions the keyboard more to the left or right side, it is better to type with this option. But I am not able to access the whole screen (for example smileys at WhatsApp). But at S3 it's also hard for me to reach the smileys with one hand.
Can't decide whether to keep the note or get and S3 additionally and then decide what to do.

Hi. I'm taking up my mba and law degree and also work at a place where we need to dress in formal wear. The note 2 fits in perfectly as long as you get titanium Gray. It's very elegant and sleek. I also suggest getting the official flip cover. Got many compliments already as people think it's a smart looking phone.
Regarding one handed usage, the one handed keyboard etc really helps in operating it using one hand.

A little strange yes
Slightly off-topic: if anyone here is from Germany and bought the Note II from the operator, did it come with Operator specific bloatware?
The Titanium Grey version seems to be more dress code-friendly...more subtle-looking than the Marble White, definitely.

This. I'm terrified of this. I have yet to buy a case because I haven't been able to find one. I'm being so careful.

yeah the sprint version doesnt come out until tomorrow so I couldnt find a case yet. I will be buying one first thing though for my replacement device. I never dropped my last phone at all, but this thing is slick.
I was terrified this was going to happen to me the first day I got the phone. This thing is very slippery. Definitely will be investing in the Otterbox case as soon as it's available. Anyone know if it's the same price in stores as it is online?

It fell onto concrete.
Damn that sucks. Currently waiting for OtterBox to release the Commuter for this phone. Gonna pick up a cheapie to hold me over.

They are currently available at sprint stores. I bought the commuter for mine yesterday, and even got a 20 percent discount.
Edit: Whoops forgot I wasn't in the Sprint sub forum lol

Mine has fallen twice onto tile and once onto concrete. Lucky the concrete fall landed on the bottom of the phone. What I'm noticing is that because the back is covered in glass, it slides VERY easily out of my pocket, off my lap, etc etc. Every time I go out, I check in with a store to see if there is a case. No go so far. I did find a bumper for it online. I am thinking about doing that and getting some protective screens for the front and back to go on first.

Not available in South Korea yet. waiting patiently, though. Got a freebie-cheapie from the shop where I got my phone.
well the sprint stores around here do not have any cases at all for this phone. so I'm ordering a tpu case from ebay.
also, I got an email from the insurance company saying that the phone is on back order. Sucks that I will be waiting and stuck with a Galaxy S until it gets here.

Yup, but the sprint Otterbox won't fit the AT&T Optimus. I know. I tried. I can't understand why Otterbox would release it for sprint but not AT&T..
Because the sprint version is basically the same size as the international version... At&t is the odd sized one.
May never get an otterbox for it.

Are they actually different physical dimensions? I find that hard to believe, and if true, an astounding error on LG's part. I understand there ae differences in hardware (camera, microSD, etc) but the chasis/ body should be exactly the same overall dimensions, no?

Yup, the Sprint version corners are actually square and the width of the device is about an eith of an inch less. The AT&T version has rounded edges and wider of course so the case won't even go on correctly. Plus camera placement is a little different between the two. Holes don't match up.

Actually the Sprint version's corners are rounder while att is square-er and wider
Made possible by my sexy LG Optimus 4X HD (P880)
Sorry, I meant edges are rounded and whole device is wider on the AT&T version. Not the corners. ADHD kicking in...

Still waiting for my replacement. Hard to believe this phone is back ordered like this. I did go pick up an otterbox for when it arrives it can go straight into a case.
edit
Just got the tracking number. new phone will be here tomorrow!!! well later today
Are you guys comfortable with it? I keep seeing posts not only in this forum of it cramping peoples hands etc etc.....
I'm not finding it that hard to hold, one handed operation can be challenging once in a while especially when reaching for that top left portion of the screen but no biggy.
How many people are finding it uncomfortable to hold this device. I'd also like to suggest..

lol.
It took me a couple days to get use to.
The right case makes a big difference on how it feels in hand.
I wont be going back to smaller size device that's f,sure.
To hold it in one hand, I support it with my pinky from the bottom so I can reach the bottom of the phone to type. It mostly gives cramps to my hand but not a big deal. I had the same issue with my sgs2.
But 2 handed operation is excellent.
Actually I got used to this phone's size so fast that I started to feel the screen is still small. so I grabbed my sgs2 and played it a while. I felt amazed again to hold my note2
This is why I'm trying to avoid the candyshell hard cases or forget the otter box. I want something as slim as the device and still offer decent protection. I'm hoping the seidio surface does the job and hardly adds size. I ordered one last night.

Looks good, wonder if they have them at the sprint stores? I didnt even think of this I figured they'd have the sprint branding all over them.
I had to remove the slim case l bought. Otherwise, without a case, it's been totally fine.

I picked up my epic just to play with and immediately decided its to small "the epic that is" I love the feel of the note2 but I use the spen alot so onehanded is pretty much non existent for me but when I do I still feel comfortable with it and I do not have large hands lol. But like someone said use your pinky to help support it.

I love mine and really enjoy the bigger screen (coming from SGSII). I'm putting a FlyGrip on it which will make it easier for one-handed use AND it will prevent it from falling out of your hand(s). Check them out. I absolutely love my FlyGrip on my SGSII. Highly recommend it.

Yeah they stock in store.
Sprint gave up branding accsessors..heck their GN2 doesn't have any branding which is great.
Now they they need to fix CS and data speeds lol
A lot of women love using the Notes and I've never heard them complain about hands cramping. Just saying...
Using it for the past few days i don't think i could go back to the gs3. Just feels to small

I came over from the iPhone 4S, which I still have to use as my work phone , and using the iPhone now it feels absolutely uncomfortably small. I have zero issues with the size of the note at all.

As long as you didnt break your nails....
It took me all of a day to get used to it, and I have average-sized hands. I try to use it two-handed when I can, but with one-handed operation, it's a pretty simple task, especially with Swype.
