[Q] Can't change filename extension via MTP - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note II

I have a stock Galaxy Note II, updated to Android 4.1.2, connected to my PC via the OEM USB cable. It's in MTP mode. While using Windows Explorer to view the files on the phone, I can change filenames as desired, so long as I don't change the extension. Any attempt to change the extension is immediately reverted. Is this a known "feature" of MTP, or is something else going on?

[Q] USB Connection to PC breaks and cache is wrong

A bit cryptic header, but here's the problem:
Used the PC driver from the Toolkit.
USB error/test is enabled.
ROM: Probam 4.4.6
When I connect to my PC via USB, I can see the device in my explorer. I can copy files from/to the Note 2. But somehow it suddenly won't react anymore. It still is connected, but the files stop copying.
When I disconnect and reconnect the cable the device is found again and file copy can be restarted. But, when I change anything on the device, it just looks like the file structure is cached.
So, removing a file on the device itself won't be reflected on the PC. When I try to copy a file to the device which was previously removed on the device (and still visible on PC), the file copy will give an error, I suspect because it cannot find the file on the device.
Does anyone has a solution for this?

No update between phone USB connection and PC

Hi guys,
I need some advise regarding the USB connection between my cell phone ( LG G4 with Android 5.1.1) and my personal computer (Windows 10).
With the cell phone connected to my computer via USB cable I canĀ“t modify files and have it updated.
For example, if I delete or rename a file in my cell phone the modification is not displayed in my Windows File Manager. The same happens when I modify a file using Windows File Manager, the modification is not updated in my phone. I have to disconnected the phone and reconnect it back.
Anyone know why this is happening ?

Usb file transfer problem

Since I updated my phone to RR-N-v5.8.3 I am now unable to transfer files to and from a PC. When I connect the USB cable to the PC and choose USB file transfer on my phone nothing happens. It works with the PTP option but the Transfer files option isn't working. Can someone please help out?
USB File transfer was always broken on CM and now LOS. There's an easy workaround though
1. Connect the phone to pc via usb cable
2. Choose "tranfer photos(PTP)"
3. Now change it to "transfer files"
Cheers mate! Been banging my head against the wall about this
Also works if you turn on debugging. For some reason that's the only way mine gets detected.

How to transfer files w/ Windows 10

I cannot get my 3a XL to appear as a storage device in Win10
Is there black magic I am missing?
Windows shows a connected device "Pixel 3a XL" when mode is "File Transfer"
When I set the mode to PTP, the device appears in file manager and I can see ... just my pictures and screenshots.
Make sure you have a good USB A to USB c cable or if you have a USB c port on your laptop or PC you can just plug it in and you'll get a USB option. It'll say charge device tether and transfer files .
Once connected you should see the phone open up like any other Android phone. No drivers were needed for me or USB debugging.
apparently it was a windows thing... I applied some updates, rebooted, and now all is behaving proper.
You can also use a free app called SendAnywhere (available on Windows/Mac/iOS) and this will allow you to wirelessly transfer files.

I noticed this as well. You can change to PTP mode and then transfer between those specific folders as a work around.
PTP is a camera protocol and isn't really supposed to show anything but pictures, screenshots, etc. Android hasn't been open to being connected to as a USB mass storage device for years, if you want to transfer files you use MTP which is what is showing up as "File Transfer", double click the icon, move your folders into any of the accessible folders or directly to the root. What folders are accessible in either format is decided by the OEM of the device in question. Going back to PTP, most imaging devices now support MTP and it isn't much needed any more but is made available so that you can transfer to/from some older devices and programs which can only utilize PTP.

can't transfer content from pc to galaxy tab pro 10.1

When I connect my galaxy tab pro 10.1 via USB it goes strait into charging mode. Does not give me the option of doing file transfer. I have enabled the developer mode and tryed forcing it to file transfer but still defaults to just charging mode.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
assuming we are talking about windows, two different issues here
1. MTP not working?
2. cannot change default?
1. maybe windows 10 MTP drivers not installed? try other device to confirm. sometimes it helps to switch in PTP first, let install drivers, then switch back to MTP, let install drivers again. Do not download wpdmtp.inf from any random website, it's included in Windows Media Feature Pack. note file transfer requires lock screen to be unlocked.
2. something does override your choice, maybe you have to tweak properties. but check settings.xml first
