I have a T999 S3, my husband has an AT&T i747 S3 and my friend has a L710 from Sprint. My husband and my friend want their s3's rooted with the Root66/odin method. Do I need separate drivers for each phone or can I use the drivers that are already on my computer for my T999? (running Win7 64 bit)
Same drivers. But don't you dare use the SGH-T999 root66 on those other phones.
Yup, I know! I've seen way too many 'I bricked my phone' threads here. If people would just take a few minutes to read. . .

I just got this phone 2 days ago, it's t-mo branded, says Samsung galaxy S II Android 4g when it boots. Yet looking at some of the pics in this thread, my phone doesn't look like the ones depicted.
How do I tell which phone I have exactly?
Thanks.

This forum is for the international version which is different from the carrier versions, you can check in settings>about phone and it should tell you your exact model number, you can then google it to get more info about your specific device
Like the original Galaxy S, there's over 9000 different variations based on each carrier. This is the forum for the international S2

Well, instead of asking strangers, since it's a T-Mobile phone you could have gone here:
http://galaxy-s.t-mobile.com/samsun...zygt*VAygtzlw*VyBpAgf+mA55Byf*VyBpAgf+mA55Byf
Or, you could have put "Galaxy S II" in the nifty "find your device" box in the upper right hand corner of the forum. You'd have found this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1329
Thank you all. I'm not new around here, but again thank you for the information.

Your Tapatalk says you have the T-Mobile T989, which is a Galaxy S2 in name only. (It's a Samsung, it has a sAMOLED+ screen, but nothing else in that phone has anything in common with any other S2.)
There's a T989-specific forum if you go to the main XDA forum page and search the page for T989.
I got my phone through T-Mobile. Came via UPS.

T989 is T-Mobile version of the Gs2 family. your screen should be 4.5' instead of 4.3' and more rounded shape
Cheers,

And the T989 is the one variant I know of that doesn't have an Exynos - it has a Snapdragon CPU instead.
Alright, with Windows 8 around the corner, was wondering if anyone is working on Win8 arm port for our Galaxy s3's (and im not talking about the international version cause that one got exynos which will never be compatible with windows environment due to lack of drivers and low ram) but our Galaxy S3 runs on same chipset (S4 Plus) that win8 tablets will be running so maybe somone's is planning on port?!
Nope.

Anything (almost) is possible. But I highly doubt it. Android on the MS Surface (ARM flavor) is more likely.

A future Samsung wp8 phone may be based on the GS3 hardware. That could get wp8 rolling at least.

Won't happen. Android is open source so rom makers can make their roms as they want however windows phone 8 is not. If somebody released a rom if even possible Microsoft would come down on them like a tornado and rightly so.

he's talking about Windows 8 not WinPhone 8
i had the exact same question.
It's possible to have Windows 8 on the s3 I guess, but it's not open source?
Not sure if Microsoft would approve

That's the best thing they could do. The SGS3 outsold the iPhone 4s in the US, they could ride that success train easily.

I don't recall the GS3 being ARM-based to actually support Windows 8 RT.....
Any Microsoft WinCrap software is NOT open source .. so for anyone trying to port that over to our phones would be illegal .. and if someone trys to port Windows 8 RT onto an SGS3 .. it definately WOULD NOT be on XDA.

What mobile processor is not Arm based? Razr I's.
I can't think of a single reason you'd want Windows 8 on your phone anyway.
Besides, getting it to run on any ARM based mobile is about a lot more than just having an ARM based processor.

wow... for someone raging as hard as you are on Microsoft, you should at least check your spelling.
why hate so much? i have 2 surface rt tablets and there is no other mobile OS that can do what i do on them. even though i'll be honest android is better for porn.
Now on op's question windows 8 rt is not going to be possible.
Hello first I would like to thank you for taking the time to view my thread, it means a lot to me. I appreciate the community. I will cut to the chase.
I am thinking about adding a new line to my plan for my little sister. She is currently on MetroPCS and we figured I could save more by adding a plan to my line (about 15 bucks)
What made this so enticing is that I could possibly upgrade my phone and give her my current phone. I currently have a t-mobile hercules galaxy s2 and I love it. I have owned it for 8 months and its just been so great. Never had an issue and then flashed a rom that made it perfect.
I don't know what to do... should I upgrade and get the Samsung Galaxy s3 and give my younger sister my S2?? She is 15 and I was planning on giving her the Blaze 4G but the development for that phone is rubbish.
She has saved 150 for her new phone so I would just have to pay the rest.
What would you do?
Edit: Can I somehow transfer my text messages from my s2 to my s3 with titanium backup???????
Get the s3
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
Ditch the s2 mate. The s3 is better in every way possible. Actually the one thing I think the t989 wins in is aesthetics. The s3 is a bad ass phone but I don't like the way it looks. To me it looks like a miniature Samsung TV.. and I think Samsung TVs are ugly. Just my 2 cents lol
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
If you can get an s3 for (effectively) $40, go for it. While I'm happy with my s2, I wanted the s3. I just couldn't justify the extra $120 over the s2.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using Tapatalk 2
Let me start off by saying the s3 is a great phone Ive had 3 of them but if you look at them wrong you will break the glass. Im very careful with my phones but somehow i managed to break 2 of the screens in 2 weeks. Do a search on it, it seems to be a real common thing. Also development is a little slow for it, seems like the tmobile version is like the red headed step child of the variants. I ended up selling the 3rd one I got and came back to the s2 with no regrets.
S3 looks terrible and is fragile. Though it does have advantages I still like my s2 better

I agree with the stepchild reference. If you can get an S3 just get it and enjoy your new toy. Quite sure if you dont like it you can switch out with your family member.

How do you figure the T-Mobile version is like the red headed stepchild out of the variants? It's the only one who's had a JB leak thus development is picking up rapidly.

The tmobile s2 is the read headed stepchild of its variants. The tmobile s3, on the other hand, is the same as its variants. But it has had a JB leak so it has better development than the others.

Your phone still has a decent resale value. Or.. It did until T-Mobile and Walmart made it available for $299.
Sent from my SGH-T999 using xda premium
I would personally go for the s3. And use sms backup for your texts. Especially if you're going from one phone to a different phone, titanium message restores cause the messaging app to crash.

Funny how we were saying the same thing about the tmobile vibrant (original galaxy s and only variant to not get gingerbread). For whatever reason, Samsung and t mobile have a history of treating their galaxy variants like red headed stepchildren.
Can we really be surprised if the trend continues?

If I could only take the S4 SoS, 2Gb of RAM, Super Amoled HD screen.......and the multi-color notification led.. cram it into my t989.. Id be set..
I really don't care for the build of the SGIII but its internal hardware packs a nice punch... exterior is garbage

I just want all the software goodies, and functionality. My s2x is fast enough. Its probably faster than the soon to be released ip5. Having my son's ip4s, my i4, and my gs2x side by side, my galaxy beat both quite easily in real world use age.

Im waiting to see what this fall brings. Im pretty tempted by the possibility of Wireless charging for the Lumias. The charging port on my S2 got messed up somehow and charges VERY slowly as a result.

I uhhh.. find that very hard to believe. The CPU in the iPhone 4s and upcoming i5 run circles around the old s3 chip in this phone. Not trying to defend Apple or anything but the CPU in the t989 is a boat compared to the normal exynos 4 in the other GSIIs.

Please people stop calling it SGS3 or S3, because it's none, the real S3 is Quad core
Tmo USA version is Dual core, and it's called SGH-T999 or T999 for short
if you already own the T989 there's no point getting the T999
if you don't yet have a T989 then get the T999
the minor upgrade is not worth it

Hi
I recently purchased a Galaxy Note 2 N1705 on ebay and when I try connecting it to my PC the driver does not successfully install and it says "qualcomm cdma technologies msm" driver not found. I've tried looking for this driver but no luck. I run windows 7 64 bit. Can anyone help me with this please.
Many thanks
You're in the wrong forum first off, secondly this phone has known issues with USB drivers.

I currently have an LG phone and this has been an issue
